Can't see attached hdd

Hi,
I am trying to see my connected Hdd (via airport extreme) in the finder or airport utility, but there is nothing in the finder. I was expecting to see share in the finder, but it's not there :(
Any ideas?
Cheers

You won't see the hard drive under the SHARED heading in the Finder, but you will see the AirPort Extreme icon there if the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32 and you have sufficient power for the drive.
If you don't see the AirPort Extreme icon and you know the drive format is correct, you will likely need to use a powered USB hub with the drive since the USB port on the AirPort Extreme is borderline as far as its ability to supply sufficient power....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
Click the AirPort Extreme icon and a folder representing the hard drive will appear to the right. Double click the folder to mount the drive on the desktop.
You may need to click "Connect As" in the upper right corner of the window the first time that you do this if you assigned a password to the drive.

  • Can't see external HDD while wanting to restore

I just had to restore my Mac, and luckily I backed up to a Ex HDD with Time Machine, but now I'm trying to restore it I've had nothing but problems.
Cmd+R gives me: No full system backups
    Migration Assistant: Can't see drive
    Setup: Can't see drive
I've run multiple repairs on it, and even mounted it to the network on another computer, but it still didn't come up.
I'm getting really frustrated, please help =/

But /Users, with your home folder inside it, should be there.
I lost the 200GB after I had to restore my Mac (when I tried to restore from my backup), then had to reinstall again due to me playing with the partitions =D
    Well, that does complicate things.
    If you're sure it's gone, I won't bug you anymore, but if you think there's a chance, I'm willing to try . . .

  • Mac mini: OS can not "see" second HDD.

    Hello:
Through a series of unfortunate events I messed up the partition table of my Mac mini server. The OS can not "see" one of the 02 HDDs included in this mini server. Even trying to install the OS from the original DVD fails to see the second HDD, which used to have the boot partition and most of my data.
I boot up using the DVD into Disk Utilities, then I use the Terminal utility:
    diskutil list
    /dev/disk0 => 500 GB
    /dev/disk1 => 500 GB
    Please see screenshots here:
    http://www.nihpo.com/static/images/01.jpg
    http://www.nihpo.com/static/images/02.jpg
But here seems to be the problem:
    /dev/disk2 => 1.3 GB
And partition "2" in this disk has the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System"
Shouldn't partition disk0s2 have the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System" instead?
    Running OS X 10.8
Any suggestions on how to get the OS to "see" and boot from partition disk0s2 will be appreciated. Thanks.

And partition "2" in this disk has the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System"
Shouldn't partition disk0s2 have the label "Apple_HFS Mac OS X Base System" instead?
I'm not on 10.8 to be certain right now, but I don't think so...

  • Can't see attached movies on Mail

Hi, I don't know why but I can't see anymore the movies that I receive by mail directly in the Mail window. I don't have any ideia why this could be happen!

To go back, you need to restore your system from a Time Machine or other full backup you made before installing QT 7.5.5, or else reinstall Leopard from the install disc and update QuickTime to the version prior to 7.5.5.
I suggest submitting a bug report to Apple. It's possible that they did not intend this to happen and do not know about it.

All this was perfect before!! What a mess!!

  • How can i see the hdd, attached to my airport extreme, on the internet?

I have an Airport Extreme installed with a HDD attached.
I can see the disk and manipulate files when logged in at home.
I want to use it as a storage for current files (and more) which I need every day.
How can I make this visible over the internet and reach it from other places?

In the 5.6 utility you should be able to see everything via the advanced pages.
It will not log the name so you will need to work out from your Mac which user corresponds to which MAC address.

  • Can't see second HDD in the BIOS boot sequence choice menu

    we have 2 HDDs in a X2170 x86 server
we've installed Solaris 10 on one, and RH on the other.
however, when accessing the BIOS, we can't select which one to boot from in the boot sequence (the "second" HDD does not appear as a choice in the boot sequence menu), and must therefore manually swap the drives into the primary drive slot to boot on our OS of choice...
what are we doing wrong ? how come our second HDD does not appear ?

    Hi,
Really appreciate your continued support - OK, here's detailed response/update:
    1. Both disks are the originals and I've checked both with another PC in external caddy and both seem A1.
    2. Have tried doing as you suggested with the BIOS, but no can do. The BIOS seems to be very limited - it is as follows:
    ACPI version 1.2
    Disks are listed as follows : Current State Built-in HDD1 = 2RAID-0
    Built-in HDD2 = 2RAID-0
    Create State Built-in HDD1 = 2RAID-0
    Built-in HDD2 = 2RAID-0
It lists both disks at the end with their Toshiba Part Nrs, capacity, etc
    3. +When you install recovery image (WXP with recovery discs) both HDDs are recognized properly but after SP3 installation the second one is not visible for Windows explorer and disc management+
    +Can you confirm this?+
    Sequence of events was :
Installed XP (checked config and both disks recognised by Windows)
    Installed SP2 (successfully)
Tried install SP3 - was not successful and machine shut itself down.
After unsuccessfully trying to get it back up, re-installed XP
Checked config and now D: drive not seen by Windows
Swapped disks over in slots to check for slot failure - C: disk worked aok in D: disk slot - but D: disk not seen in the other
Again removed the D: disk and checked it in external caddy on other PC - no probs works aok
    And that's where I'm left.
Seems that there's something about the current state of the D: disk drive that is preventing XP from seeing it - yet the BIOS does ......
Is there any utility I can download that could help sort ??
    Again, many TIA

  • Email has an attachment but no paperclip and can't see attachment.

I recently was sent an email that I know had a link in the body of the email. I however opened up the email and there was no link nor was there a paper clip as there should have been. . If I open the same email on my laptop ther sits the link and I am able to open it.  Also in the email on the laptop I see the paper clip showing an attachment. This is not the case in both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4. Any ideas?

If you have reset Secret Questions or password, it's probably sent to your Rescue Email.

  • [solved] Thinkpad x61 w/ /boot on external USB can't see internal hdd

    Hi all,
EDIT: Fixed it. I had to boot the install media and re-run mkinitcpio -p linux. Not sure if I forgot to do that the first time or if something changed...
I have my /boot partition on an external USB key. I installed grub on that key. My main disk is supposed to be encrypted, and is internal in my Thinkpad x61. When I boot with this setup, grub can't find the system disk. I get dumped to a recovery console, and lsblk just shows the USB key.
If I plug the internal drive in via a USB-SATA converter, everything works as it is supposed to.
It seems like when the thinkpad boots from the USB key it isn't turning on the internal drive or making it available to linux. Has anyone seen something like this?
When I boot the arch installation media from USB I can see the internal drive right away. Is there a way to figure out what the installation boot is doing that I'm not on my regular system?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lefty

  • Can't see usb HDD connected to TC

I have a new 2TB TimeCapsule to which I connected a 1TB Seagate HDD formatted to Mac OS extended.  When I go to Finder the USB drive does not show up.  Nor does the power light on the drive come on.  When I connect the HDD directly to my Mac Mini it is visible.  Now get this, when I connect a usb hub to the TC and then plug the HDD into the USB hub, the drive appears in Finder.  No, the hub is not a powered hub. Any thoughts about why TC won't recognize the drive when it is plugged directly into the TC usb port?
    Thanks

Yes, it is using a USB chip that the TC cannot talk to without a hub. This is due to lack of drivers I think.
I posted a thread to which I have no answers.. but if you would like to fill in the details I think it will explain what is happening.

  • System can not see Large HDD

I have a Ms6330 lite MB. It is about 2.5 years old. Bios is v2.9.
I also run a promise raid (mirror) using two 40 gig drives.  However, I am trying to replace the 40 gig with WD 120 gig.
If I look in the bios, it sees the drive, however , when I try to partition, it only sees about 1 gig.
    Running win 89 SE.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks,
    Tom

I think it's just the fact that the FDISK in win98 is limited to 64GB.
If you supply partition sizes in percent rather than MB it will work, or you can get FDISK from wiME or use a 3'rd party software like partition magic.

  • Can't see external HDD when plugged into TC

So I have done research here and haven't found an answer yet.  My first problem was the the drive was NTFS so I moved all the data and formatted it to exFAT.  Both the PC and macbook pro can read and write to the drive when plugged into each system.  When I plug it into the TC it won't show up anywhere.  It is an externally powered drive.  What have I missed or doing wrong?  I want to use this drive as a network drive to keep my itunes library on so 3 systems can access it.

The problem is that the USB port on the TC will only support drive formats of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT 16/32.

  • Can't see external HDD

This is a weird one. I have an external HDD that is visible in System Profiler, but nothing else sees it: not CCC, not Disk Utility, not Disk Warrior, not the Finder. Nothing sees it except System Profiler.
I've tried every possible way of connecting the drive: FW, USB, daisy chained, not daisy chained, direct to the iMac, through a hub. Nothing.
I do know that the drive is formatted. But in any case, wouldn't at least one of these apps be able to grab it? I don't care about anything that might be on it. Just want to format and use it.
    I'm stuck.

  • Can't see HDD in Finder

    Hello everyone!
I have a WD 2TB My Passport which used to be recognised on my iMac until I upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.2. At the same time I copied some files off the HDD onto a PC, so not sure which of these events caused it, but now I can't see the HDD in Finder at all, no matter how many times i plus it in and out. I can see it through Disk Utility, but fixing the disk didnt really make any difference.
At the same time a Windows laptop identifies it absolutely fine.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks in advance!

When you click on the drive in Disk Utility, at the bottom of the screen, what format is it reported as? (eg, "Mac OS Extended", "exFAT", "Windows Format", something else?) Can you click the Mount button to any effect?
What kind of connection do you have to the drive (eg USB), and is there another connection you can use (perhaps Firewire?)
    Matt
