Can't see closed captions

I followed the tutorial for making subtitles in Adobe Premiere CC. The problem is that I can see the titles in the closed captions tab, but it isn't visible in the program monitor, also after enabling closed captioning display.

What type of caption stream. If you're not sure, check the top of the Captions panel.
And what are Standard and Stream set to in the Program Monitor's Closed Captioning Settings dialog (accessed by clicking the wrench icon, then Closed Captioning Display>Settings...)?

  • How can I use closed captioning with Netflix movies?

Any help from the community on how to be able to see closed captioning on Netflix movies; works with movies from iTunes?

Hm, Id really like to figure this out also. It bothers me to see my laptop screen out of the corner of my eye using my 30in. Its kind of stupid but, still bothers me.
edit: That was way to easy. Just close the laptop and let the bluetooth mouse wake it back up. I had tried it once before and it didnt work. Maybe I was just to impatient to wait the extra 10 secs.

  • How can I moving Closed Captioning from one stage video to another?

Someone mistakenly included an MP4 video in a Captivate project. The project won't publish a SWF file (Your computer does not have sufficient memory resources to publish your file), and there are too many Closed Caption items on the stage video to retype them all. I'm searching for options as this will only publish with an FLV version of the video.
Doesn't the CC text reside some place beside the "Edit Video Timing" window? XML? SWF? Something? Somewhere?
    Thanks

That's excellent. How can I access what's in the skin? ... I think I may have found the captioning in the Javascript, but the chances of copying it over are pretty slim, I'd say.
Frankly the way Captivate handles closed captioning isn't good enough. This is mandatory for dealing with public universities, and we're having to program around it.

  • Apple TV 2 - Can it display closed captions for the hearing impaired?

I have not seen a direct answer to this question anywhere, even on the web. If I buy a movie/TV show DVD, I get closed captions. If I rent or buy from iTunes or some other source, does this mean there are no closed captions to display, or does it mean that Apple TV 2 cannot display the closed captions? It is especially helpful with British shows. We use closed captions all the time for everything else. If it cannot be displayed, Apple TV 2 is largely useless for us. Note: many Boomers (we with the money to spend, not the 15 year olds!) have damaged hearing- they should be included in marketing.

The easiest way to find videos with closed captioning is to select Column Browser->Show Column Browser from the View menu in iTunes. Select a category and then look for titles displaying the CC icon. You can then rent them in iTunes or find them in the Menu in the ATV and rent them there.

  • Can you do Closed Captioning on FCP HD

I have been using FCP to create a few TV programs and need to create closed captioning, but I can't seem to figure out if I can use FCP to generate closed captioning.
Anyone know how to create closed captioning in a FCP environment?
    Thanks,
    Wil

Wai a second. So my clients won't know the difference between subtitling and the closted captioning? Does subtitling run on line 21 as well?
    <
Well, I've never met your clients but 90% of mine have no clue.
Subtitling is permanently burned into the image. Could be another language but could be the native or local language written out for the hard of hearing or to make poor audio intelligible.
Captioning (open/closed) is user-activated at the playback device. All TVs have CC switchable display. But there are several flavors of captioning including multiple language encoding.

  • Have downloaded video but can't get closed captions?

Have downloaded video from Apple TV, and while it shows it should contain Closed caption, I can't find a way of getting them up on screen when replaying. Any thoughts?

It depends on if the content you are watching as any.  If you select and hold down the select button while playing the content it will bring up the content menu.  The subtitles tab will let you select what ever content is encoded for the show you are watching.

  • HT1657 How can I turn closed captioning off?

How can I turn off the closed captioning while playing a rented movie on my Apple TV

    Thanks varjak paw.
I was afraid this was the case.  To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism.  That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position.  Sad to watch.

  • Cannot see Closed Caption options

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create captions. I watched a tutorial on Adobe's website, but I don't see any of the options that I need (eg I don't have an option for a Captions window, and when I click 'New Item' I don't see an option to create a new caption). I'm a newbie so I'm sure it's something obvious I'm doing wrong - any help much appreciated.

Using CS6 version 6.0.3 on PC.

In CS6, caption support is limited to attaching a caption source to a timeline. You can see the captions in the Program Monitor, but you cannot edit them in any way through Premiere.
The features you're talking about were introduced in Premiere Pro CC.

  • Where can i find closed captioning guidelines for formatting and styling for EBU-STL that suit iTunes USA ?

I can't seem to find any current styling and formatting guidelines for these closed captions. I understand that they are meant to be EBU-STL...

    Thanks in advance!

  • See Closed Caption but No Picture

    Apple TV 1080p HD - 60Hz
    Apple TV Software 5.0 (4099)
    Model MD199LL/A
Worked great until yesterday.  Suddenly there is no picture when I try to replay my TV episodes of "Merlin" purchased a week ago.  CC is visible and sound is fine.  None fo the Merlin episodes play, including the ones we watched last week.
All other feartures (Netflix, movie previews, other non-Merlin episodes etc) show video just fine.
    What's up?

You did not provide any information on how far you've gone in your research of CC in principal, so here is what it is in a nutshell.
From Flash standpoint there are two distinct approaches.
    1. CC can be embedded into video as cue points. You don't have to do it manually. Adobe video encoder (and other encoders) allow importing xml files at time of encoding. These XML files require certain formatting with time stamps. When imported, cue points are inserted automatically.
    2. There are several established CC text file formats including xml files and flat delimited files. There is nothing special about this files - they have start times, end times, and CC text. The only advantage of using one of these formats is that the majority of tools that allow typing CC as one watches video save the work in one of these formats.
On the Flash/programming side, except for cue points, there is no native mechanism to link/sync any data with anything. This means that logic has to be written from scratch based on required use cases. It is mostly loading xml/text file --> parsing it --> listening to video playback's time --> displaying text at the moments specified in these files.
Writing these kind of functionality is a very easy task. The main challenge is to transcribe audio to get CC text and time these text blocks properly. It is time consuming as well as expensive if you don't do it yourself, which is the main reason people and even big companies ditch the idea of implementing CC. In other words, it is a total tedious manual labor unless one has speech recognition software.

  • In creative cloud, can closed captioning be exported with video in HD and SD format?

Can I format closed captioning in both HD and SD format?

You will likely get better program help in a program forum
The Cloud forum is not about using individual programs
The Cloud forum is about the Cloud as a delivery & install process
If you will start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use

  • Closed Captioning in Apple TV Rented Movies?

Is it possible to select closed captioning in Apple TV Rented Movies? I rented a movie and did not see the closed caption option. Is it possible that only certain movies have the closed captioning option, or none.
I would appreciate any information regarding this subject.

You can turn on closed captioning in the AppleTV settings. Go to Settings > Video.
It is possible that not all rented movies will have closed captions. It is up to the movie studio to provide CC with the movies files they give to Apple for hosting.

  • Closed Caption options do not work while you using Premiere 7.2.2 in Mavericks 10.9.3

I cannot view/edit closed captioning (Tabs, Sequences, etc) files (QT DVCPROHD) that have Captioning attached using Maccaption. I'm using Premiere CC 7.2.2 on Mavericks 10.9.3.
Another editor can view and edit captioning in another bay on Premiere CC 7.2.1 on Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Is there a new bug?

Here are some other things to try, when you don't see closed captions in PPRO:
-- Check to see if the Monitors in PPRO are set to the right caption standard
-- Quit project and app. Toss any .prmdc files from Users:<User Name>: Library: Application Support: Adobe: Common:Media Cache Files
        Relaunch PPRO and reopen project
    Or when all else fails:
-- Go to the source file, rename the embeded caption name
Reimport the closed caption embedded file with the new name

  • Unable to view the closed captions.

I am not able to view the closed captions on my television when watching a Netflix movie which has that option.  I have set mt apple tv and personal computer with the correct preferences options and have the personal computer on when watching the movies.  I don't know why I can't see the captions.  Please help me find a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance. Lynne

My guess, and that's all it is, is that the Apple TV software needs modifying to support the CC which is already present within some netflix streams, however I'd imagine that the code necessary to do that would need to be supplied by netflix.
Some one else said they'd asked netflix who said it was Apples fault because the Apple TV doesn't support cc, but of course that is nonsense. You might want to leave feedback for Apple though.
