CAn't see disks

Hi,
I tried to install solaris 10 on E4000. There are 2 disks on disk board but these are not visible by system. Even probe-scsi-all only shows the dvd rom. Please help.
Thanks.

I do not happen to know your experience level, but many people
have presumed that just because such disk drives are on a disk board,
that they are internal drives.
That is incorrect -- no disk drives are ever 'internal' to an Enterprise computer; all are external devices.
(... only the CDROM and any internal tape are internal SCSI devices, for those computers)
A disk board simply gets power and device target numbering when they're on a disk board.
The SCSI pathing is still external.
There must be a cable, out from an I/O board and into the HD68 connector on the face of the disk board.
Those drives are no different that if they were in a multipak.
No SCSI cable ? Then no functional drives.
Bring the system down to OBP (properly) and run probe-scsi-all.
The drives must be recognized at that hardware level before
you can have any hope of an OS manipulating them.
Search Docs.Sun.Com for the board, whose part number is 501-3113.
That will point you toward the Systems Manual for that line of computer systems. It's a 4mb PDF file.

Alternatively, you can use the SSH to find your E4000, then select its documentation link:

  • Can't see disk content with accounts set-up in Airport Extreme.

    Hello, all.
I can't see the contents of a hard disk I have connected to my Airport Extreme and shared using accounts. Accounts have been set-up as Read & Write, and Read only, but finder window is empty. Disk mounts on the desktop but doesn't display its contents.
What am I doing wrong ?
    Thank you in advance.

Canle modem off, Airport Extreme off. Connect the modem and the extreme with ethernet cable. Power the modem. Wait about a minute, power the extreme. Use Airport Utility (in your Utilities folder) to set up the extreme. Review directions for the extreme as that will help.

  • UCS C200 M2 LFF can't see disk

    DETAILS
    Disk - SAS 7.2k 1TB
    VMware ESXi v5
I was following the configuration guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/os/vmware/install/VMWARE-esxi-install.html to install VMware ESXi v.5 on a Cisco UCS M2 LFF which has a disk - SAS 7.2k 1 TB.  I did the steps from 1 to 9 correctly.  However, when I got the number step No. 10, I checked the Boot Options on the BIOS and I didn't find the Hard Disk Order.  I'm attaching the screenshot of BIOS - Boot Options that I see:
I checked the UCS option Inventory - Options cards on the Cisco Integrated Management Controller and I didn't find the hard drive, this is the image I see:
Finally, I decided to move the hard drive to another bay (No. 2).  However, the result was the same, the BIOS can't recognise the hard drive.
Even though, I tried to install VMware and it can't find the disk.
Any ideas why UCS can recognised the disk?
I really appreciate your help with any information or idea because I'm in a hurry to finish my installation.
    Thanks,

    hi padramas,
i'm experiencing identical situation from this thread.
This server was purchased on ebay where the tech removed the HHD and a raid controller.
i've set the bios to the above same setting.
    Recently I purchased new:
Cisco LSI 1064E Mezzanine Card SAS HBA
    1 SAS
    R200-SASCBL
    2 Cisco R200-D300GB 300 GB Internal Hard Drive - Hot-Swap - 15000 RPM - Serial.
the  sled are green are lit when the HHD are in place ( these are new HHD)
Used the url below to troubleshoot.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/115025-ucs-cseries-cli-00.html#concept2
Followed the the steps and see the HHD and the show pcie-adapter
    HDD_01_STATUS present
    HDD_02_STATUS present
    HDD_03_STATUS absent
    HDD_04_STATUS absent
    I receive the following
chassis # scope storageadapter SLOT-5 or any SLOT or SAS for that matter
Error: Managed object does not exist, show the show command to list vaild targets.
i've gone so far as to put a stethoscope while the HHD are in the server and can't hear them spinning.
Could it be a jumper setting or a cable that was removed before this server was shipped to me.
this is a lab server so i don't have a smartnet accout to open a TAC case.
    thank you advance

  • Can't See Disk with Firewire

Really not sure how to label this question...
I'm trying to transfer files via firewire to my new MacBook Pro from my G4 Quicksilver. The G4 has two internal drives, the original and one I added. The added one is the main (startup disk) that I use. It's this drive where most my stuff resides and that's what I want to transfer.
But, when I hookup firewire I only see the original drive. I double checked the "Startup Disk" and it's set correctly. I even clicked it and chose Target Disk Mode or whatever it is for the firewire option. Still no luck.
How can I see this drive? Or, is it possible to see both drives? That would be ideal.
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Dean

Target Disk Mode only sees the hard drive set as Master, the original drive. Your added drive has been set as Slave & is not seen in TDM.
The solution - Remove both drives. Relocate the jumpers (diagram on drive) to make original drive as Slave & new drive as Master. Reinstall drives. Now TDM will see the new drive.

  • Can't see disk files

Have a 1st gen ipod that is still going strong. I take it back and forth from home (mac powerbook g4) to office (mac g5) usually with no problem. I update my music only on home computer. Use the ipod as a removeable HD to transfer work files over firewire. Suddenly after upgrading to latest iTunes my files are no longer visible on my work computer. Volume mounts and I can see my contacts and calendar files, but not the HD storage. It will still succesfully charge also. Sounds like a security or privileges issue?

The disk sharing utility creates separate folders which are not visible when connected to the AEBS, but are when directly connected via USB to your computer:
"Shared" > for all mainly shared files and folders
"[Username]" > for all user related files and folders when you use account to access your disks through the AEBS via Airport.
So if you first connect your disk directly to your PC, make sure you copy your files to the "Shared" directory (and not directly in the root), and if you did not connect the disk to the AEBS before, or the "Shared" directory does not exist, make this folder yourself.
    Goodluck!

  • Where can i see disk I just loaded

I inherited a macbook pro when I started my position at work. THe person who used it before me made many peprsonalisations to the way the computer works, which is great. However, for the life of me, i cannot fidn where at disk is located to open it. I am used to it starting and "popping up" right away...
Trick is, i can't check spotlight for a file name, because the disk is photos taken at a job site, and likely all named random numbers...
I'm sure this is an easy fix, but i am too frustrated to think clearly and work it out; help?

Choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu.

  • Migration Assistant from Tiger Mac to new Leopard MBP can't see disk

    Hi,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro and am trying to migrate from my Tiger-based (10.4.10) dual 1 GHz Mac (mirrored-drive door) desktop machine. The boot drive on the Tiger machine is actually partitioned into an emergency boot drive of a few GB and my main working drive ("Macintosh HD"). When I run Migration Assistant (MA) on my MBP (after connecting the 6-pin Firewire cable and restarting the Tiger Mac in target disk mode), the MBP sees only the emergency boot-up partition and not the main working partition from which I want to migrate.
I tried MA on my MBP connected to a different Mac with no HD partitions, and it sees "Macintosh HD" just fine, so I think all the new hardware is okay as well as the Firewire cable.
    Any ideas?
    -Eric

Thanks for the info. I do know something about this (being a HW engineer), but I would have thought that the IDE master/slave jumpers would affect all the partitions on the disk. Since my emergency-boot partition is visible, I take that to mean that the IDE master/slave jumper issue is a non-issue for me.
I don't know if this helps, but here's what Disk Utility reports about the disk (not the volumes residing on it):

I don't know how to determine from the above what the "first" partition would be. I don't know how to post an attachment here otherwise I'd show a screen shot, but when I got into Disk Utility's partition tab, the emergency-boot partition (called Clean Boot) shows up at the bottom of the space indicating all of the HD's space, and Macintosh HD shows above Clean Boot.
So what are my options? Can I repartition w/o loosing Macintosh HD (I'm willing to loose the other partition Clean Boot)? Any way to change the partition numbers?
I was thinking of cloning Macintosh HD to another HD and then migrating from that. Any experience with that?
    Thanks, Eric

  • Solaris Mgmt Console Can't See Disks

    Hi,
I recently installed Sparc Solaris 10 6/06 on a Sun Fire v440. I configured a hardware raid mirror on the built in controller card using raidctl. The two root disks are correctly mirrored and report "OK" when raidctl is issued for a status.
I have two additional disks that I wanted to mirror using SVM.
When I start the Solaris Management Console, I initially get no errors. When I navigate to the Disks section, I get a pop up error window stating:
"Attempt to get a list of all Disks failed with unexpected error: null"
If I click on the OK button on the error dialog, the management console is available but no disks are shown in the usual window.
I googled here and there for an explanation but found nothing.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Time Capsule - Windows 7 can't see disks

Just purchased a Time Capsule 1 TB and installed it. I have 2 PC's connecting to it. One is a Windows Desktop running Windows 7 RC (final). It sees the Time Capsule, printer, and disks. That's cool.
However, I have an HP laptop that is connecting to the Time Capsule. It sees the printer just fine, but when I try to access the disk it gives me the error message:
"Unknown user, inncorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact..."
I have tried virtually every option (wired or wireless access, etc.). Currently disk access is setup to use Accounts, with passwords. But I've tried it the other ways. It's making me crazy!
    Anybody got any ideas?

    Tesserax,
Thanks for the quick response, but no luck. I followed your steps. There were a couple of differences for me:
    1. I have two "Network security: minimum session..." sections. Presumably because I have a Wireless and a wired connection or have at one time.
    2. I wanted to make sure the 7th step was in the same area "User Rights Assignment" and not some other "policy" area that I missed.
o From the Win7 desktop, click Start
    o Search for: security
    o Click 'Local Security Policy'
o Goto Local Policies > Security Options
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
o Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    o De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    o Click OK

  • Can not see wireless TM in disk utility or desktop.

Am I running a TM Airport (router) it runs great, I love everything about it and the backups have no issues.
But I wanted to partition my 500mb drive on my TM yet for some reason I can not see the drive either on my desktop or in disk utility. Is there some setting I need to change somewhere else to be able to view this wireless drive and configure it? I looked via Airport Utility and the only option there is to archive or erase it, at least that can see it.
When the backup starts I do see a mounted drive show up.
    Any ideas?

It does not show up because when I am not backing up, it gets disconnected...

  • Extracted Time Capsule Disk – Can't See Old Backups in Time Machine UI

    Hello,
I was one of the unfortunate souls that purchased a Time Capsule in March of 2008, only to have its power supply die last month. Instead of buying a new one, I decided to take out the hard drive and attach it to an Airport Extreme.
The first few steps went fine: opened the TC, got the drive out, put it in a new case and hooked it up. Once I had it mounted, I told Time Machine to do a backup. And it did. And it was merely an incremental one. I was optimistic.
However, now when I "enter the Time Machine," I can only see the latest state ("Today/Now").
I'm wondering if anyone has an experience successfully extracting a TC drive, or if anyone has encountered my specific problem before. The fact that the backup action recognized the existing backups has me hopeful that there's simply some arcane preference somewhere that will make the Time Machine UI recognize everything properly. After all, the point of extracting the drive was so that I didn't have to start over.
    Thanks!

Ok, immediately after posting I read Pondini's "Time Machine - TROUBLESHOOTING" thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057525) and found a solution in E2:
Also, sometimes TM will start a new "sequence" of backups, as if they were from a different Mac.
To see these "other" backups, you need the (badly named) Browse Other Time Machine Disks option. It's available by holding down the Option key while selecting the TM icon in your Menubar, or by control-clicking (right-clicking) the TM icon in your Dock.
You'll see a selection screen showing all the disks/partitions that have TM backups on them. Select the one you want, and you'll be taken to the normal TM "Star Wars" interface, where you should see all the backups on that disk/partition.
In my case, there was only the one disk showing, but when i selected it, all of my backups were visible.
I'm not going to mark this as "Answered" yet, because the regular "Enter Time Machine" menu option still does not work, as described above. But at least now I have a workaround to access the backups.

  • Can't see USB disk attached to other mac

I have an Airport Express, on the network is a Mac Mini which has an USB disk attached to it (to the Mac Mini).
However, I can't see the disk from any other mac that uses the Airport (this used to work)
I've looked for "disk sharing" in Preferences and in the Airport Setup Utility, but couldn't find anything.
I've also made the Sharing & Permissions of the USB disk for "Me" and "Everyone" as " Read & Write"
Any idea how I can resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Awfers

Ok, thanks for clarifying. You don't need to change any settings within the AirPort Utility, but let's double-check your Mac Mini's settings to make sure that it is both sharing the disk properly and that it's OS X firewall is not blocking the requests.
For File Sharing: System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing
o Make sure that the folders on your external hard drive, that you want shared, are selected in the Shared Folders window.
o Make sure that you have, at least, Everyone = Read Only set in the Users window.
o Select Options..., and then, verify that you have "Share files and folders using AFP" is enabled for Mac clients, and "Share files and folders using SMB" is enabled for Windows clients.
For the OS X Firewall: System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o If "Allow all incoming connections" is enabled, verify that: "File Sharing (AFP, SMB)" is now displayed in the list.

  • Can't see photos of iPhoto through my Apple TV after moving the iPhoto library to my Airport Extreme Disk. It keeps "loading user's library" forever...

    Hi there,
some days ago I purchased an Airport Extreme router with disk to move my iphoto library there and free space of my crowded macbook pro.
Everything was working well (iphoto takes a little bit longer to start and quit) but now I can't see my photo library through my apple tv.
It keeps loading the library forever.
Is there any problem doing that?
    Thanks
    jm

    Help,
Thanks for the quick answer and for the welcome.
Yes I selected it in the iTunes sharing options (in fact several times, with resets in between just in case)
I think that it's related to the size of the library (more than 8 gb) and e fact that is in a remote disk (in the AirPort Extreme)
Hope anyone has the solution :-))
    Thanks again!

  • Can't see Time Capsule disk

Hi there, need some help. I can no longer see my Time Capusle disk (and it's not performing back ups). I've just moved and set my time capsule back up as my wireless router last night. All seemed to be working fine. Came home from work today and could here strange noises coming from it. Couldn't see the disk in finder, disk utility or in airport utility (wireless working fine). Restarted it. Airport now tells me that there is a problem with the disk in the TC and that it needs repair. Still can't see the disk to reapir it in Airport Utility, Disk Utility or Finder. Have plugged in via ethernet and still nothing.
    Any advice?
    I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.5

So far, everything points to an internal hard drive failure. Unfortunately, Disk Utility will not be able to repair a drive that has failed mechanically.
If you have an Apple Store or servicer in your area, you should take the Time Capsule to them to let them have a look.
If the Time Capsule is in warranty or covered by AppleCare, Apple will likely replace the entire Time Capsule for you...but I would not expect them to offer to retrieve any of the data on the failed hard drive.
If the Time Capsule is not covered by warranty, you can open it up and attempt to pull the drive and replace it yourself....or have a shop do it for you. A data restoration service might be able to retrieve some of the data on the failed drive, but the cost of this procedure will shock you.
I don't go inside the Time Capsule much anymore, but our resident guru LaPastenague does this on a regular basis. Hopefully, he will see this post and offer his comments and advice.
He has offered excellent tips and instructions on repairs in this document:
