Can't see dmd file from another user

I just installed SDDM v3.1 and tried to open a dmd file from another user (I have used it to create my own model, saved it and can open it later). The log says "Open Design: 'filename'", then "Open Design: OK". But I don't see anything in the Logical (Logical Model) window. If I try to Import the same file, I get an error message that says look at the log file for details. Except that the log file has no entries in it. Is there an issue with what version the other file was saved under or some other format? Thanks for any help on this.

Hi,
There is now a forum specifically for Data Modeler topics: SQL Developer Data Modeler
I assume that you are using the latest version (3.1.3.709).
Provided the model includes some Entities, they should show up in the Logical Model window.
The log file is normally in file datamodeler.log in folder datamodeler\datamodeler\log (unless some other location has been set in the Environment/Log page of the Preferences (accessed from the Tools menu).
The log should at least contain a line like
2012-10-19 11:03:18,457 [main] INFO ApplicationView - Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.3
for each time you start a Data Modeler session.
It is possible that the log is in a read-only location, and so Data Modeler cannot write to it.
In this case I would recommend that you update the Preferences to use a writable location.

Is there a GRANT to let a user see a procedure from another user but not compile it?

The problem is that is not just one procedure, but more then 30 and a lot of developments want this privilege.

  • HT4889 How can I use all files from every user on my mac?

Is there a way I can share all of the files on my computer to where every user on one computer can access files from one user to another? All help is appreicated!

That is so contrary to the way of OS X that I seriously doubt it.
I would suggest that you just create a single user account and let everyone log into that single account.

  • How can I see one mac from another mac?

I have two macs, an imac at home and a MBPro.
If I have them both at home, how can I see one Mac´s hard drive from another?
Is this possible? with back to my mac??
    thanks

Do you have a home network?
Personal File Sharing: You can connect Macs on a local network with Tiger’s Personal File Sharing, which allows you to mount folders from the sharing Mac on the master Mac—note that the slave Macs do the sharing; the master Mac doesn’t have to. To turn on Personal File Sharing on the slave Mac, do this:
    Open System Preferences.
In the System Preferences window, click Sharing.
In the Sharing pane, click Services.
In the Select a Service to Change Its Settings list, select the Personal File Sharing checkbox.
Now that the slave Mac has sharing turned on, you can mount it on the master Mac’s Desktop:
In the Finder, choose Go -> Network.
In the Network window, select the sharing Mac.
    Click Connect.
In the Connect to Server window, click Registered User, enter the user account name and password for the sharing Mac, and then click Connect.
In the window that appears, select the volume that contains the folder you want to sync with, and then click OK.

  • Problems copying files from another user that originated from Time Machine

I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro to replace a 6 or 7 year old iMac, and in the course of setting it up tonight, we've run into a little snag.
She didn't need or want the vast majority of the stuff on the old drive. So I reinstalled the applications she wanted, and copied a few of her documents. MOST of what she wanted was the iTunes and iPhoto databases.
I attempted to copy these over via the time machine drive that used to be plugged into the iMac. I was told there are insufficient permissions to do so. No problem. I used Migration Assistant to copy from the external drive, and selected just the items that we wanted copied -- Music and Photos.
This worked great, except it copied over a new user account that matched the old one (she's using a different/married name now, so the user accounts didn't match up). In and of itself, I couldn't care less if it creates another user as I figured I could always go in, copy what I need from the restored user folder to the new user, and then delete the user account we don't need.
Unfortunately, that's where I've hit the final snaffu. All the files I need are in a user account for "Heather A" (restored from the Time Machine drive via Migration Assistant). I need to copy those files (Music, Photos in particular) to the user account "Heather T" (the new account we setup when we first booted up the new MBP). However, in Finder, there's a little red circle with a line through it over the icon for those folders within "Heather A", and attempting to even open them (much less copy anything), generates the error "The folder 'Music' can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents."
How do I get around this and/or change the permissions?
I should note that both the "Heather A" and "Heather T" accounts are administrator accounts, so I'm at a loss as to why this is happening and how to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Dan

Sssuming there still in the transferred account, delete the files you copied over to the new account. Log into the old account, drop all those files and iTunes into her new accounts /Public/Drop Box/, log into the new account, and drag to where you want them. That should resolve the permissions issues.

  • How can I see my files from iCloud on my ipad??

I have some files different kind of files in my iCloud storage... I would like to view and access them from my ipad. How can I view them??

    Hi mtsada,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question. If you are talking about accessing files on iCloud Drive, you may find the information outlined in the following article helpful:
How do I access all my files in iCloud Drive?
You can access your files in iCloud Drive any of these ways:
Using any supported web browser, you can go to iCloud Drive or iWork for iCloud beta at iCloud.com. In iWork for iCloud beta, you can find your Pages, Numbers, and Keynote files.
On your Mac with OS X Yosemite, you can go to iCloud Drive in Finder.
On your PC with Windows 7 or later and iCloud for Windows, you can go to iCloud Drive in File Explorer.
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8, you can access your files from Apple apps like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, or any apps that support iCloud Drive.

Makes sense, if your function is an admin of some sorts...
This is a nice example why the best place for authorization checks are beyond the interface of the user's clickable influence and against a conceptually consistent authorization object.
I have noticed that within the tracing type of functions, you will also find such tools. Tracing is also an admin or support type of function..
    Cheers,

  • Copying files from another user

I migrated my files successfully, but not into to my user.  I need these files on my main user and I have no idea how to do this.

    Have a read here:

Might be better/best to start the thing all over and using the Setup Assistant instead of the MIgration Assistant this time:

  • HT3787 If you accidentally eject that local file (plain white disk image) from another user, can you get it back?

If you accidentally eject local file from mobile me from another user, how can you get it back? Or is it stored somewhere else????
My website was saved on there. And I need it!!
I didn't realize that was the idisk since mobileme has been gone for so long.

That's what I was hoping.  I use Time Machine to back up the entire computer.  But I'm assuming it was a disk image, and that wouldn't be saved on the backup?  Or where could I find it?

  • I am logged on to a wifi and can see files from other users on this network.  Can they see my files as well?

I am logged on to a wifi and can see files from other users on this network.  Can they see my files as well?

Yes and no. It depends on your settings.
Go into "System Preference" and click on "Sharing"
If you have services checked such as "File Sharing" then others can see your computer on the network. But you really don't need to worry because others would need your username and password to have access to your files.
What you see are just computers annousing themselfs on the network. To have access to said computers, Username and Passwords are required.
    Hope this helps

How do I move all my files from one User Profile (account) into another?
I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
    cd /
    (cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
    cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
    ls means list files/directories
    so:
    cd /Users
    ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose))  this flag is very optional.
    you will see
    fred
    user2
    for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
    for example:
    cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
    ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
    cd /
    cd Users
    cd user2
    cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
    /Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
    so in your case.
    sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
    should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character /  it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
    so
    cd /Users/fred
    is not the same as
    cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\  on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\  (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
    pwd
it will tell you where you are.
    for example:
    cd /
    pwd
    this shows  /
    cd Users
    pwd
    this now shows /Users
    cd /System/Library
    pwd will show /System/Library
    cd /
    cd /Users
    cd fred
    cd Library
    pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la  (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
    do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
    whatever pwd returned / myfile
    I hope that makes sense.

  • HT201250 Can I restore photo files from Time Machine without the use of an external drive?  I'm trying to restore lost photo files and I see them listed in Time Machine (without use of an external drive), but when I try to restore I get a error code 36.

Can I restore photo files from Time Machine without the use of an external drive?  While I was transferring photos back and forth from a thumb drive something went haywire and my IPhoto was wiped clean!  When I click on Time Machine I see all the dated pages (without an external storage drive connected), go back to a date where all my photo files are there, click "restore", and I get the message:  "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in file cant be read or written (error code - 36)"

Thanks so much Terence.  I tried some of the fixes from that page, but then discovered the suggestion to compress the Time Machine Back up of the original library and transfer it as a zip back to my computer as detailed here:
    http://pondini.org/TM/E9.html
That worked like a charm.  I really appreciate it.
