Can't see finder menu bar mountain lion

Since yesterday, every time I reboot or start my iMac everything comes up except my Finder menu bar.
Only way I can start working on my Mac is to relaunch my finder by force quitting.
I am running iMac 24" (Early 2008), Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
Anyone with similar experience? Thank you in advance.

One possibility is that you are somehow getting into full screen mode for some app that is restarting ever time you reboot. But the finder could be hosed for some other reason. Perhaps some menubar extension you installed?
I'd try two things.
1) start up in safe mode (hold down the shift key on hearing the startup chime) See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455.  If all is well then, you should reboot normally after that.
2) login as a different user ( you do have another user setup I hope. This is always a good idea). Does the problem happen with this other user?
Safe mode should reset caches and will, I hope fix your problem.
Hope this helps.

  • Display is too big, can't see the menu bar.

I have a 32" tv that i connected it to my mac pro. I see te display, but it is too big. I can't see the menu bar. I've tried changing the resolution, holding control and scrolling, and changing the display size on the tv settings. Any suggestions?

If there are no size settings on the TV that work (some TVs don't have the correct settings) see if there are Overscan or Underscan settings in the Mac's Displays system preference.

Check your Windows Display Preferences, and make sure you're using the default, 100%, smaller screen fonts.

  • Can't see the menu bar

Ever since some genus decided I needed to UPGRADE Foxfire, I can barely see the menu bar at the top. When I want to view my bookmarks, I have to GUESS where the put my pointer because the contrast is dark grey, nearly the same as the black outline.
This sucks. I need a REAL browser.

First I suggest you upgrade/update to the latest or most current version of Firefox which is version 10.0, your version as reported is 9.0.1.
    See:

Please reference the following KB support article to regain menu bar visibility.

  • How can i see the MENU bar. Help says "Right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip. What is a Tab Strip?

My friend just bought a Windows 8 laptop so I told her to download the latest version of FireFox. Unfortunately, some idiot removed the Menu Bar which most people love. You can see all of your options in plain English. Anyway, I referred her to help and cannot believe it's so hard to get a simple answer to this question. Why does FireFox make it so difficult to get an old fashioned menu bar?
Help says, "Right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip and check Menu Bar". OK, what is a "TAB STRIP" and where does she find it? Who writes these silly, useless help tips?

Grad, you made some good points but we still disagree. I'll acknowledge that maybe millions was a slight exaggeration but nobody has an accurate count. However, I do understand the difference between making something simple and obvious versus a programmer trying to prove how clever he or she is.
Grad, I'm guessing you and your friends are much younger than us as we are well above the age of 50.
As for the number of clicks, I'm confused by your comment. My Menu Bar is always visible so I have to merely '''click once on Bookmarks''' to get to those menu options. It sounds as if you have to initially click on the orange FireFox button in order to see the Menu Bar, and then click a 2nd time on Bookmarks. That sounds like 2 clicks of the mouse to me.
I have Windows 7 and never saw Windows 8 so I can't comment on your excellent question. I personally had the '''Menu Bar displaying 100% of the time''' for as long as I could remember. I just couldn't remember how I initially turned it on several years ago and the help file proved to be more confusing than helpful.

  • Can't see smb shares in Mountain Lion

If I go to Go and go to network
I can see the currently powered computers on my network. We have (from left to right) WinXP, Linux (embedded), and Vista.
If I explore into one of them, I can see its shares:
If I open a share then it appears to mount it (the finder icon in the top bar changes, and the behaviour of going "up" a folder (command up-arrow) takes me to the mac folder, where I can then see that it has an eject icon, so it is mounted.
but it still doesn't show up on either "shared", or "devices" in the finder bar. So if I close the window accidentally, how do I get back to it easily?
If I use Go > Connect to server, and then specify the share (smb://pc/share)
I also get a window which is mounted as a drive that does not show up anywhere except in the mac folder.
If I close the finder window, the only way I have found so far to get back to this folder where my network drive is mounted, is to click my home folder:
right click the finder window title
and then select 'Tim's MacBook Air'.
The drives don't even show up on my desktop.
Is there a better way where I can just have any network drive I mount just turn up on the side bar? Is there a special key combination to open the folder that has my mounted drives in it?

Finder window must be open before the shares are mounted for them to appear in the Finder sidebar. Unfortunately, that means even if you use Applescript, you will need to open finder. Or open it and close it for drives to mount automatically.
You can try the script below:
    tell application "Finder"
open ("/Applications" as POSIX file) -- replace /Applications with whichever folder you want finder to highlight
      mount volume "smb://nameofyourserver/nameofyourshare"
    end tell
    add
    <key>LSBackgroundOnly</key>
    <string>1</string>
to your info.plist after you create the applescript app so that the app runs invisible

  • I want Firefox browser not,YAHOO (I don't know this came to be), I'm unable to use the How to make Firefox my browser because this requires a menu bar, and until I get rid of YAHOO! I can not see a menu bar. Help Regards Arthur Norton.

I want Firefox as Browser. I've got Yahoo, but wish to delete it. I do not have a menu bar therefore cannot use How to make Firefox etc.

The akamai servers are used by a lot of web servers to store large files (e.g. images and media files)
A domain with fbstatic in it is likely a domain that is used by Facebook (fb), so you may have other problems if you stay on such a web page or get redirected
If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flash Block</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Can't access Finder & menu bar flashes on & off at "boot-up"

After installing a screensaver yesterday from an Apple recommended site, the problem above occurred but also applications are quitting unexpectedly when I access menu items & try to delete items. Also Spotlight won't work - if I type stuff in Spotlight, the app I have open just quit. I can't access finder so can't even get to delete the ??offending screensaver.
    Help!!
    Cramster

Have you tried uninstalling the screen saver?
    After that try repairing permissions.
    Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility
Then select your drive from the left and click "Repair Disk Permissions"
If that does not help, call Apple Care 1800767APPLE.
Or take your MacBookPro to an Apple Store.
    Good luck!

  • Messages can't see camera on osx mountain lion

... other applications do (skype does, facetime and messages don't see camera.
Safari can use the camera (chats through safari with google accounts can use the camera, messages on the same acounts do not see the camera).

The camera did appear in systeminfo as a usb device. However I manged to get messages and Facetime to see the camera after deleting the the Library/preferences/com.apple.imagt and restarting.
If the camera is not found at a restart this file gets corrupted and has to be deleted. Messages and Facetime are affected but Skype finds the camera once it is seen by the system.

  • Slide bar in Finder missing in Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and am not terribly happy with some of the small changes.
Is the slide bar that changes the size of the file icons in Finder missing in Mountain Lion?
I do not like the pinch and expand thing, never used it, but would quite frequently use the small slide bar at the bottom right.
I know I can change them permanently via Finder/View/Show View Options, but that's a pain too...such a simple thing and they got rid of it?
I can tell these things are done by young people with good eyesite!

Well, I don't know what I did, was just in the "Finder/View/Show View Options" and in Icon view, and now it's working...Hm. Never mind...

  • HT3986 After installed win7 on my mac pro(mid 2012/mountain lion), I can not connect internet and where can i find drivers in mountain lion system

After installed win7 on my mac pro(mid 2012/mountain lion), I can not connect internet and where can i find drivers in mountain lion system.
I donot think I have a install disk when I bought my mac, there is only a disc partition for recovery system.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to install Boot Camp drivers. On Mountain Lion, you have to download them.
First, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and select the option to download the drivers. You will have to burn them into a DVD or USB drive, so after downloading them, restart and install them into Windows
