Can't see hard disk folders

I have an airport extreme hooked to a cable modem. I have a Seagate 160 gig hard disk attached to the airport extreme. My Mac Book Pro can see the hard disk and all its folders, but my PC that is wired with an ethernet cord cannot see the folders on the hard disk. It sees the drive as a Z drive but no folders show up. My husbands Sony Vaio laptop only sees the hard disk and not the folders either.
Any suggestions????

Safely? No. You'll have to find another place to transfer the data to.
And last is the best format not HFS+?
It is... if you have a Mac. If you are only in Windows, you may at some point want to disconnect the USB HDD from the Extreme and connect it directly to your PC. Native Windows can read a FAT/FAT32 drive, but not an HFS+. However, you can pick up MacDrive which allows a Windows machine to read an HFS+ drive. Your choice.

  • Can't see USB disk attached to other mac

I have an Airport Express, on the network is a Mac Mini which has an USB disk attached to it (to the Mac Mini).
However, I can't see the disk from any other mac that uses the Airport (this used to work)
I've looked for "disk sharing" in Preferences and in the Airport Setup Utility, but couldn't find anything.
I've also made the Sharing & Permissions of the USB disk for "Me" and "Everyone" as " Read & Write"
Any idea how I can resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Awfers

Ok, thanks for clarifying. You don't need to change any settings within the AirPort Utility, but let's double-check your Mac Mini's settings to make sure that it is both sharing the disk properly and that it's OS X firewall is not blocking the requests.
For File Sharing: System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing
o Make sure that the folders on your external hard drive, that you want shared, are selected in the Shared Folders window.
o Make sure that you have, at least, Everyone = Read Only set in the Users window.
o Select Options..., and then, verify that you have "Share files and folders using AFP" is enabled for Mac clients, and "Share files and folders using SMB" is enabled for Windows clients.
For the OS X Firewall: System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o If "Allow all incoming connections" is enabled, verify that: "File Sharing (AFP, SMB)" is now displayed in the list.

    Hi
As mentioned above: the SATA controller is supported so you will need to use a SATA SSD drive usually it should not be a big problem to upgrade the notebook with an SSD drive in some cases it could be possible that the SSD firmware needs to be updated but this depends on the SSD drive manufacturer
However, the SSD drive is much faster than a common HDD. Therefore you should notice a faster performance

  • Can't see e-mail folders

On Firefox OS 1.3 (ZTE Open C), I can't see my imap folders. Not sure if it's related, but I can't delete e-mails also.

    Hi mauricesvay,
I understand that you are having issues with the email application in your Firefox OS device when connecting to an email provider through IMAP.
Aside from not seeing your IMAP folders and not being able to delete emails, are you having any other issue?
I would suggest attempting to remove and reconfigure the account inside the Email application in your Firefox OS device. If that does not solve the problem, please reply to this message with the following information:
    * Please provide the exact steps to reproduce the issue you are encountering.
    * Which email provider are you using?

At only 15 months of age, my MacPro crashed yesterday! Any idea how I can save my hard disk from being destroyed if I hand it in for repair?

Open it up. Buy a new replacement drive. Install Mac OS. Then give it to them if you still have trouble.
    As for the install failing,
I never do the older "archive and install"
I format and initialize first, even zero the drive, and only then install.
of course all the data is lost.
Data Rescue 3 demo can scan a drive but you need to have setup a 2nd boot drive to work from, AND you would need part of that 2nd drive partition for recovery of data. 30-50GB system partition and 150% the size of the drive you want to recover.
TimeMachine I never adopted or liked but 350% and would only use as secondary backup with cloned copy of your drive.
Backups can be scheduled, run at night or weekend or both, a weekly clone and daily sets.
Disk Warrior 4.2+ is another $100 (DR3 is about same but demo is free to try).
A spare external drive case $30? and TWO hard drives, a replacement and backup/recovery $100 each?
Just some ideas to throw out there....
Bootable clones though you will find are very useful, handy.
I like the small 40GB emergency boot partition - put one on your TimeMachine drive etc.
LION: the one good thinig: it has a recovery mode partition and new Macs have "net install" feature and minimal hardware diagnostic over the internet to do Apple Hardware Test. Lion $30 and might actually want to install it on external.
So DO try installing OS X on one of your external drives - create 40GB volume just for that - if you can please.

  • Can't see LaCie disk on any other computer except one

Okay, here's one I can't figure out. Maybe someone else can.
I just purchased an Airport Extreme and everything works as it should. However, when I plugged my LaCie Drive in the USB slot, in the Extreme, I find it shows up on my MacBook Pro desktop, but I can't see it on my daughter's iBook G4, my G4 desktop, or my wife's PowerBook G4. If I scan the Extreme config from any of the computers, it shows me the LaCie disk connected, but if I use the Airport Disk Utility, I only see it on my MacBook Pro. The utility shows nothing on the other computers.
Why is it showing up on one computer and not the others? Is it because my MacBook is Intel and the others are not, or am I just not configuring things correctly on the other computers?
Thanks, in advance, for any help on this

Ok, thanks for clarifying. You don't need to change any settings within the AirPort Utility, but let's double-check your Mac Mini's settings to make sure that it is both sharing the disk properly and that it's OS X firewall is not blocking the requests.

  • Installed 10.4 first, 9.2.1 can't see a disk to install

    Hi all,
I am installing 10.4 and 9.1 on my G3 PowerBook (Pismo, Firewire). I installed 10.4, but I cannot install 9.1 as it says there is no volume to install - the pull-down menu is greyed-out.
I partitioned my drive using Disk Utility of the 10.4.3 install DVD. I have 2 partitions, both Mac OS Extended (Journaled), the first for 10.4, the second for 9.1. The first I did not check the "Install Mac OS 9 Drivers" box, but the second I did. Looking at Disk Utility now, it does not show "Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed" for either partition, nor do I see any option to add them. Does the "Install Mac OS 9 Drivers" box need to be checked for all partitions in order to have them installed on any? Is there any way to add them now? Is there another way to get Classic to work, perhaps by just copying the folders from another system that has a proper 9.x installation?

OS 9.x installed without OS 9 Drivers (on root level of hard disk drive) would
still give you a possibility of a working Classic environment under OS X; this
is because OS X doesn't see OS 9 as a bootable volume, & uses it differently.
However, in a computer which supports OS 9.2.2, if you expect to run the
computer from that Mac OS, you need to have OS 9 Drivers on the HDD
before you install anything; or have the OS 9 Drivers installed via OS X
10.4's initial setup, where it asks if you want them; thus the checkbox.
If OS 9.x were installed first, then setup for that would give you Drivers for 9.
But you can't add them later on; they are on the root level of the hard drive.
The OS X system, as the primary one, will add new files to the OS 9 system
when used as Classic under OS X; so you will see other/different items in
the Mac OS 9 system folder to reflect support for Classic vs. OS 9 boot...
However, OS 9 will work much better with the limited resources of an older
Mac when it can run the computer by itself; if you use vintage apps directly.
There is a way to reformat the computer's hard disk drive and also have the
OS 9 Drivers put on there; and if you had a clone on external hard drive of
the OS X system and other (everything) you could clone it back to the Mac.
Anyway, don't have too much fun...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can not see hard drive on desktop after reinstalling Mountain Lion

I have erased my hard drive and reinstalled Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and now I can not see the MacIntosh HD on the desk top. Downloaded the most recent updates and restarted but still do not see the hard drive on the desk top. Any ideas?

Open Finder preferences and on the general tab check Hard disks for Show these items on the desktop.

  • MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 won't see hard disk

I'm changing a harddrive in a friends MBP, but it can't see the new harddisk. When attaching the new harddisk via USB it boots up perfectly, but when inserted in the casing and connected with the internal cable, it won't recognise the harddisk. When I put in the original harddisk in the casing and connected with the internal cable, it boots up. The disk is formatted as GUID and OSX Extended, journaled non-case sensitive as described.
    What could be wrong?
I can't even see the internal new disk using boot and Option key.

I have the (i think) the same problem with my 2009 13" mbp.
I push the power button, and I always push the option button, to see the boot options. Sometimes it see the internal hard drive, but i have boot issues. Other times the macbook pro won't se the hard drive anyways.
There is a 10% time, when is boot up normali, but when I start to use itt, i've got random beachball-s again, and again.
I create a bootable USB drive. Boot it up, and it see the hard drive, but when I go the disk utility and clikk to the disk, to create a new partition on a drive, or just erase it, i've got spinning beachball, and nothing happen.
The hard drive is OK, I checked it, in my other mac, thats why I think, i've got the cable problem too.
If anybody here think, this is the problem, please somebody help to, where can I buy a "strong" cable. I seen on e-bay a lot of MacBook Pro 2009 cables, but I dont know witch one is have a good value.
    Many thanks.

  • Server Admin can't see hard drive with user's Sites folder

I have a G5 XServer with two hard drives running 10.4.10 co-located at an ISP. I had recently brought it home and did a clean install of the OS and put new accounts (mainly to host multiple web sites) on it that were different than before, and this time I installed the operating system on the second hard drive leaving the original in place.
Everything works fine EXCEPT that when using +Server Admin+ to set the Web Sites to point to the various home directories (click web, click settings, click Site, Click 'plus' to add a new site or 'pencil' to edit one, then click '...' to select the folder), +Server Admin+ *cannot see the new home directories* on the hard disk I am currently using. It can only see the old directories on the old hard drive.
(Note: I observed the same issue when trying to set the FTP root directory.)
How can I get +Server Admin+ to look at files on the other hard drive (the one I am booting from)?

    Camelot wrote:
    Who cares?
Just type in the path to the directory you want to use. You don't have to select it via the File dialog.

    That didn't work either.
It turns out that both hard disks were named the same (I don't know how I screwed that up), so I went in with Disk Utility and changed one of the names.
