  • Can't see my win7 library on my mac, yet I can see mac's in windows (itunes 11)

Let me start by saying that I did not use Home Sharing before, It's my first time I tried to use that.
I have 2 computers, one of them is PC, connected to router via ethernet cabel, and the second one is MBP, connected to the network by wifi.
I set up a Home Sharing, and the problem is, that I can browse my Mac library in WIndows without any problems, but my Mac can't see windows library at all.
Any solutions possible? It's not that it does not work; in fact it does, but only in one way.

Purchasing the music only gives you one download for it, but you can move and backup the song files as if they were any other type of file; to locate them, control-click a purchased item in iTunes, choose Get Info, and navigate to the listed location. Drag them into the open iTunes window on the second Mac.

My 1st ipod was lost. My library is on a Dell with Windows.  I registered my new ipod to a Mac.  How can I get my library from Windows onto my new Ipod?

Thank you for your help.  I am still having trouble.  As you can tell, I am not technologically advanced AT ALL.  My music is all showing up in the library but when I go to file in the top left corner, Sync is greyed out and I cannot select it.  I'm gonna continue to try this.  It's been a long time since I had my 1st ipod and things have changed so much I will probably need to research this stuff.  Thanks again for your help.

  • Can I transfer old library from PC iTunes to Mac iTunes? Old library is not purchased form iTunes.

Can I transfer my old library of music files from PC iTunes to Mac iTunes? The old library is not purchased from iTunes, just songs imported over the years before I had access to iTunes.

  • Help! Transfering iTunes library from Windows iTunes to iTunes on a new Mac

I am sure others have asked this -- I was not able to find it though:
I have a Windows machine on which my whole iTunes library sits (both ripped CD's and downloaded music and TV from iTunes).
I need to move that to my new Mac.
I read the article about using my iPod to do this, but it doesn't seem to work across Mac/Windows. The computers are on the same home LAN. My old machine doesn't have a DVD writer or CD writer, so I can't use that option.
So, is there an easy way to just transfer it over to my new machine?
Also, what do I need to do (and in what order) about de-authorizing my old computer?
The Apple help and online resources are shockingly unhelpful on this topic. Thanks for any instructions you can provide.
    Thank you!

After you mount the drive, I'd recommend copying the folder over to your Mac desktop. From there, set iTunes to Copy Files on Import (under preferences). Select File -> Add to Library then choose the whole music folder you copied to your desktop. iTunes will load all the songs into your iTunes library and copy them to the appropriate folder in your hard drive.
When that process is complete, you should be able to delete the folder from your desktop and all your songs will be in your iTunes library.
    Hope this helps!

  • ITunes can't see external library from older computer

Hey guys. I had a 2008 iMac with iTunes set up to read all of my music, movies, TV shows, etc. from an external hard drive. I recently got a new MacBook Pro and am trying to get iTunes 12.1 to see all of my existing media, with no luck.
My iMac was running Mavericks (and I guess iTunes 11?), which I assume auto-updated my older library and paths to be compatible. However, my MacBook Pro is running Yosemite (10.10.2) with iTunes 12.1. It used to be that you could just point iTunes to your existing iTunes or iTunes/Music folder and everything would instantly be available in iTunes with no problem. I've noticed in 12.1, though, that iTunes now builds its own iTunes Media folder, separates music from TV shows, movies, ringtones, etc., and has an iTunes library file in addition to several other database sidecar files.
My question is, how the **** do I get iTunes to just see my existing media? When I try pointing iTunes to the external HD, it creates an all new iTunes Media folder with db files in it. If I create that folder myself, it creates its own subfolder with existing db files. Even then, the db files don't actually point to any of my music, but rather to an empty library.
I've tried "add to library", but instead of just adding the info for accessibility, like it used to do, iTunes is actually copying every one of my files into the new folder. Given how huge my library is, I don't have the time or HD space for iTunes to copy and paste what's already there.
Any suggestions? I just want to point iTunes to my already existing files and folders from the previous version of iTunes without duplicating or losing anything.

I have not updated iTunes in a long time.  While I cannot say that iTunes 12 would not have problems opening an iTunes 2 library generally a newer version can open any older version library, but not the other way around.  Are you trying to open an iTunes 2 library?
As far as iTunes and the option key thing is concerned the library is a file called "iTunes Library.itl" and it is located in the iTunes folder, not the media folder.  A media folder is only a bunch of media files and not a library, the way a pile of books on an empty city block is not a city library.  If you do not have that file then you do not have a structured library and will have to build one from scratch with your media files.  Sometimes people put only media on an external drive and leave the rest of iTunes which makes up the complete library on the internal drive.  You need to recover that part (basically your iTunes folder) and replace the iTunes folder on your computer with it.  It has the .itl file containing all the information pointing to those files on the external drive.

  • Can I recover lost library from Windows backup file after hard drive crash?

I'm sure this has been visited before, so I'm sorry if this is redundent.
My daughters Windows notebook had to be reformatted because of a severe virus. I had all important files including iTunes songs backed up onto portable Hard Drive. Got her notebook up and running and then restored her songs back to her computer (but not into the original location). Plugged in her iPod Mini and now it shows no files at all on the Mini and iTunes will not access or recognize the songs that I restored
Prior to the restoring she was able to listen to her complete music collection on the iPod Mini.
I still have access to the backup files either on the Hard Drive or in a separate folder from which I restored the first time. Should I completely erase the songs from the notebook now and then access the backup file?
And how do I get the Mini and iTunes to recognize the music once and for all?
Thanks for any advice, help, and suggestions.

HP Pavilian Notebook   Windows XP   iPod Mini.

What you will do depends on if you have the "iTUnes Music Library.xml" file on backup. By default this file is stored on
    C (Or the drive windows is on)/documents and settings/............/My Documents/My Music/iTunes
If you DO have this file on backup, then you will have to set all the music to its EXACT location it was before reformatting

  • Transferring Library from Windows to Mac - Library does not show in iTunes

I've consolidated my iTunes library from my Windows PC to my iPod using the external hard drive option and following the instructions listed in iPod support on this site.
After copying the iTunes folder from my iPod to the Music folder on my new Mac, I'm not seeing the library appear in iTunes when I open it up.
Can someone give me any guidance?

should be an easy fix for you. On your Mac goto file add to library, then goto the folder where you moved the files to, hopefully it was the itunes music folder, just select the folder then click on choose at the bottom of the window and hopefully in a few minutes the problem will be solved.

  • I have transferred my iTunes library from windows 7 pc to new windows 8 pc. Music was in alphabetical order by surname but new pc has some by surname some by first name and some not in alphabetical order. How can I get sorted?

Question  Hi - I've transferred my iTunes library from windows 7 pc to one with windows 8. My library was in alphabetical order by surname but after transfer is now some by surname, some by first name, and some not in alphabetical order. How do I sort this out and also make sure that new downloads list by surname alphabetically?

Sorting in iTunes is often controlled by selecting different column headings. The sort order for any given column may be further modified by a sort value, e.g. Sort Artist affects the sort order of Artist. If you transferred the library properly all of the metadata should have remained intract and you simply need to select the a column that sorts as you want. If you had to import the library then there is the potential for tagging effects that could mean metadata entered previously didn't import with the media. Note that iTunes has no mechanism for automatically deciding which values are in <Forename> <Surname> order and could therefore be sorted as <Surname> <Forename>. The only automatic process drops leading articles (a/an/the) so that "The Doors" sort under D as "Doors".

  • I can see and read files on my Mac partition from Windows

I have a MBacBook Pro with Bootcamp installed on a partitioned drive.
I'm currently logged into Windows XP.  My drives are:
    BOOTCAMP (C:)
    DVD-RW Drive (D:)
    MB Pro HD (F:)
These three drives show up in Windows Explorer.
I'd never tried opening the MB Pro partition, but got curious tonight.  Sure enough, from Windows XP, I can open the MacBook Pro partition, open the Users Directory, find my MacBook login directory, find my Documents Folder, see all the contents, and even open files!
    That doesn't seem right.
In fact, that seems like a MAJOR security flaw.
Anybody else?  Is this normal?  Is there a way I can protect my Mac files from being accessed by someone using Windows on this computer?
    Thanks!

It's your machine, anyone that uses the Mac side, would presumably have access to the Windows side.
But if you really want to remove it:
    Click Start, then My Computer.
Double-click on the BOOTCAMP (C:) drive  At the These files are hidden screen, click on Show the contents of this folder.
Double-click on the Windows folder.  At the These files are hidden screen, click on Show the contents of this folder.
Double-click on the System 32 folder.  At the These files are hidden screen, click on Show the contents of this folder.
    Double-click on the drivers folder.
Locate the file AppleMNT (it is a .sys file) and rename it to something like AppleMNT_keep.
Click Start, then click on Shut Down.
    Click Restart to restart Windows.

  • Transferred itunes library from Windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. plugged in 3rd gen Ipod. Ipod icon appears along with playlists, music etc. Songs are grayed out and won't play. Please help!

I recently transferred itunes library from windows XP PC to new Windows 7 PC. The transfer was successful, however when I plug my 3rd gen Ipod Nano into the new PC, the Ipod icon appears along with the music, playlists, etc. The songs are shown but are 'grayed out' and wont play or sync. The 'Devices & Printers' window in new PC shows icon for Ipod driver & is OK. The icon for the Ipod appears but depicts a delta shaped warning icon that states that the Ipod is'not operating properly'. Tried troubleshooting. The troubleshooting message states the the Ipod is 'disconnecting'. Can you help me with this problem?

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.

  • Can the aTV read files from an iTunes library on my nas drive without my computer being on

I have my itunes library on a My Book Live nas drive that contains all of my digital movies and TV shows. I want to be able to watch my movies from the library without a computer running. I understand that Apple has chosen to chain you to the computer and your itunes account through Home Sharing but I can not see why they couldn't allow you to access a nas drive without a computer running because your aTV is tied to your itunes account also so why do they force you to run a computer 24/7 365 in order to access the files you have bought and paid for.
I have a love/hate for Apple because I love the quality of the products they make but I hate how they make all of the digital files you purchase only accessible through a computer running Home Sharing even though the files are not stored on the computer.
I have tried several things to get this to work without a computer but no luck. The only way I have found to be able to do this is to Jailbreak your aTV and install 3rd party software (which I don't want to do) that will allow you to by pass the computer and Home Sharing (which is dumber than ****) because that is all I want to do is eliminate the need of a computer running wasting electricity (I thought Apple was supposed to be an enviro friendly company, guess not). I am not trying to steal or give someone else my purchased movies and using the aTV and an internet connection they could still be able to tie your media to your itunes account so I just don't get there thinking, or lack of thinking I should say.
Is their a way to do this without Jailbreaking or modifying your aTV?
If not is Apple ever going to wake up and allow there customers to actually USE the media they purchase from them without Home Sharing and a computer running?
