Can't see Mac Webcam on a PC

I recently purchesed a MacBook with the built in isight Camera. I have tried to use the webcam options with AIM, Yahoo, and MSN. None of them work! I have the newst versions of all 3 messengers and none of my friends on PC's can see my webcam, not even on AIM through iChat. What is the problem? is the iSight cam only usable with iChat?

Followed Folder and Network sharing but still can't see MAC

I have made one folder on the Mac desktop that is shared with appropriate permissions. That folder is set for sharing with read write rights to users called Guest. I can see the MAC as a network workgroup computer but opening the computer icon no share folders are shown. I am completely unable to see it in "my network places" which is where all other PC's in the same workgroup are seen. File sharing is turned on in the iMAC.
If I can't see the shared folder from my PC, I can't drop files into that folder. I have done everyting I know to do. Is there anyone who could assist with this issue. I do have the SMB option checked for working with Windows PC that are on the same workgroup.

I suggest that you use the full featured AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Download and install it and it will work side by side with AirPort Utillty 6.1 on your Mac.
Reset the Express back to Factory Default Settings and confgure the Express using wireless only.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Open AirPort Utility 5.6 , select the Express and click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the row of icons to name the Express, establish a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode setting box and select Join a wireless network.
Enter the Wireles Network Name of the Cisco network to be joined
The Wireless Security settings must exactly match with the Cisco settings
Enter the Wireless Password and Verify Password.
Click Update, close AirPort Utility as soon as you see that the settings have been stored and you should have a green light in 40-45 seconds.

I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5. Under 10.4, I had always routinely synced data using Windows XP Briefcase. Well, when I upgraded to 10.5, PC & Mac would not see each other anymore, bidirectionally, neither one could see the other. These are connected over AirPort only.
I spent two hours searching online and an hour and a half with Apple on the phone.
We did a bunch of stuff in System Preferences:
Network/[protocol/Advanced/WINS -- made sure the workgroup had the right name
Sharing/[user]/ -- turned on file sharing and made sure SMB was selected in the submenu
Sharing/ -- changed the "Computer Name"
Trashed a bunch of plists under [drive]/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
network.identification
NetworkInterfaces
preferences
None of that fixed it, but may have been part of the solution. Apple told me I was on my own, and EVEN SUGGESTED I CONTACT MICROSOFT?

Can't see Mac network with JFileChooser

Greetings
I am using a standard JFileChooser to select files and directories in my application running on MacOSX Snow Leopard. My problem is that I can't see my network using JFileChooser. I can see all the other Macs on my network using Finder or a standard Mac file browser but not on JFileChooser. I suspect I am missing something really simple but at the moment I am at a loss.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I also have the same problem.
My belkin wirelss router is set to channel 13, therefore my macbook cannot see this network when it search's, for the above reasons.
However unlike the situation above I am unable to change from channel 13 as we have discovered in the past that this is the only channel that is not in use by other networks around our area. The rest gave us interferance troubles.
I have a number of windows laptops in the house and there is a setting that you can change so the laptop will search for channel 13. I was wondering if anyone is aware of a setting on the macbook that will make the airport card search for 1 - 13 not just channels 1 - 10 as it is now.
I thought I would add this question to this topic as it is very similar. I hope I was correct in doing so.

Can't see .Mac mail

Hello,
I can't see the messages from my .Mac account in Mac Mail. I used to receive them, a few weeks ago, but it no longer works. The messages are there when I log in to my .Mac account online, but they don't get sucked down to my machine. I think it's a configuration problem, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Here are the features of the problem. Hope someone has a solution. Thanks.
--Using Mail 1.2, OS 10.4.8
--2 accounts: one university POP account + .Mac. No probs w/ university account.
--.Mac account can send mail & I receive it on the univ. account. But the other way, the message shows up in my online mailbox but does not download.
--I tried trashing the account and recreating it in Mail. Weirdly, the Mail sidebar for that account now shows the number of messages it contains--but when I click on that mailbox the number disappears and the box is empty! It takes several minutes for the number to reappear.

Let's check whether the rules could have a bearing on this:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate MessageRules.plist and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there; this is where Mail 1.x stored the rules, and they are no longer used by Mail 2.x, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
4. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
5. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
6. Go online again if you went offline in step 4.
7. Rebuild the mailbox, i.e. select it and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
If the problem persists after doing this, then you know the rules have no bearing on it, and you may move the files on the Desktop back to the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, overwriting any files Mail may have created anew there (quit Mail first).
BTW, I guess you meant Mail 2.1, not Mail 1.2, right?
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

Can't see mac library from windows iTunes

I switched on home collection to synchronize library between Mac and Widows iTunes. I can see and open Windows library from my Mac. But i can't from Windows. It doesn't show Mac library.
And how i can select main library? Or i will have same data in both iTunes?

Please see windows 8 does not recognise Macintosh HD, No drive Letter.
You can verify if you have CoreStorage by executing diskutil cs list in OS X Terminal.

Weird Problem - can only see Mac in "Share my Screen"

I've been having a strange problem that I think might have something to do with OpenGL, but I'm not sure. I think it might be because I've gotten some error messages that said that OpenGL wasn't available or working properly.
When I boot my mac, I have a hugely corrupted screen (gray with green stripes) which doesn't change at all. However, I can hear things starting up, and when I use "Share my Screen" from my MacBook, I can see everything, and the computer runs just fine.
I've tried attaching a different monitor; it looks exactly the same, and both monitors run perfectly when attached to other computers.
I tried taking out all the cards and things, wiping everything down, and putting them back. No change.
I tried booting in Safe Mode. It never actually booted. (I left it to try for about 20 hours before I gave up.)
I've tried resetting the PRAM, and that didn't help. (Before that, I had scattered green dots, and a fractured apple logo, with the widget that showed the computer was loading, until the point where the screen should turn blue, when it would freeze. Now I just have green stripes.)
I've tried to reinstall the original system, but when I attempt to boot from the CD, I get a kernal panic. This is true, no matter what CD I attempt to boot from.
I've opened the computer as a Firewire Drive (using an older Macbook) to change the system from there; but you can only install the stystem on the boot drive from the disks I have. While I was running it like this, the Firewire icon showed up just fine on my monitor, white on the gray with green stripes.
I've tried upgrading to Lion (I was using Snow Leopard) and was able to do it, but that didn't solve anything.
I don't appear to have the Lion reboot partition. At least, if I do, I don't know how to find it. The keyboard shortcuts don't do anything as far as I can tell. Since I cannot actually see anything on the screen until the comptuer is fully booted, so it might be there, but invisible.
Unfortunately, I didn't try the old install disks until after the Lion upgrade. Now, if I try to just install from the disk (using Share my Screen, so I can see what I'm doing) I'm told that I can't.
When I run Disk Utility, it says everything is fine.
The computer is due to be replaced in October anyway. Should I just give up and get the new one now? Or can any of you think of anything else that I might be able to try? Everything is totally backed up, so if I need to wipe my disks, that's not a problem.

     4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory
     NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Graphics card
     OS 10.7.4

Hi Robin,
The no boot in Safe Mode is a big clue, generally a serious Hard Drive problem, but can be others.
Are you saying the blotched screen showed up fine in Screen Sharing? If so the problem is downwind of the Video Card/VRAM, & you seem to have eliminated the Cable & Monitor, so I'd quess Logic Board most likely.
On the HDD problem, try Zeroing the drive while it's in Target Mode...
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
   2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
      *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
   3. Click the Erase tab.
   4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
   5. Select that iMac volume.
   6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data one pass, Erase... after completion do a new install... after completion hopefully you'll be able to get a good install.

Can't see Mac HD or recovery partition

G'day all,
I've recently upgraded to Mavericks and haven't had a problem untill today.
I had booted into my Bootcamp partition to do some work stuff and when i resarted it just booted straight back into my Bootcamp partition which was weird because my Mac OS partition is my default boot up. I then restarted again and help the "Alt" key but only got option to boot into Bootcamp (Mac HD and Recovery options were not there).
after this i went back into windows 7 and tried to see if i could see the other partitions in "My computer" and to my horror my 500gig NTFS partition with all my work stuff had gone aswell.
I went into the disk management utility and i can see this
for some reason my big partition has now become "unallocated" but i can see that all of the partitions are still there and i can even give me Mac hd partition a Drive letter and then view its contents from "my computer".
What im really after is any help in being able to get into my big partition.......

Mac sees Windows, Windows can't see Mac

I've been sharing files between my iMac (OS 10.4.10) and my Windows XP Pro, SP2 laptop for months with minimal problems, but suddenly I can't access my Mac from the Windows machine.
I've tried by typing '\\[ip address]\[user]' in the address bar. After a long delay, I get 'Windows cannot find \\[ip address]\[user]. Check the spelling and try again or try searching for the item...'
I've also tried by using the Add Network Place Wizard, also typing '\\[ip address]\[user]. After a long pause, I get 'The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.
I can, however, access the shared files on the Windows machine by using Connect to Server. I can ping the notebook from the Mac, but can't ping the Mac from the notebook.
I've tried with both firewalls turned off--no difference.
The Mac is plugged into a Netgear WGR614 wireless router and the laptop is connected wirelessly.
Can't think of what has changed. I've added software, but don't think I've reset any of the network settings.
Any help would be much appreciated.

And... the 1st 3 numbers of the IP on both the Mac & PC are the same?
Sometimes the User prefs and the System orefs for sharing can disagree... sometimes System Profiler>Networks>Firewall don't agree with Sharing>Srevices... might check.
Sometimes these files get corrupted, permission deficient...

Can't see MAC address on LAN

Issuing the arp -a command in terminal (Mac OS) shows all MAC addresses connected to my LAN. However the network extender MAC address doesn't show. Any idea why not?

i need help regarding using of MAIL 5.2, i am using the Mac Book pro Mac OS X. I am also using ipad 3 and Iphone 4s, now the question is if i send an email from my gmail account already configured in iphone 4s to any other email, then that send email should be displyed in my Mac Mail but it does not. At the same time i can see in ipad 3 that send email, but still can't see the send email in Mac Mail....?

The solution was to remove all versions of Acrobat Pro and reinstall Acrobat Pro XI. I still had the download file in my Time Machine backup. That's a good thing, since the download link from the order listing on the Adobe website under my account would not work.
The problems don't occur with version 11.0.0. I got the work done, now I'm updating to 11.1.0 and will report if they came back.

Can anyone help me figure out why my web page is only partially visible to PC's? I built the page with Site Studio 1.7 on my Linux Server and have a table page with the top and right bottom tables visible to PC's but the contents of the bottom right table (which is an embeded adobe.jpg/.html file) is only visible on my mac.

I'll give this a try next...I also discovered that my mac is set at 1440 X 900 (I'm new to Macs too) and I was going more on how things looked on my (only computer) when I should have been paying attention to settings for different Browsers. Now I need to figure out what are the best overall sizes and settings to set things at...any sugestions?
What I have been doing is: taking a .pdf sent to me originally made in Pagemaker Pro 7 --I open it in PhotoShop 8.5 X 11 300dpi I reduce to 72 dpi save for web in slices with images and HTML producing for me a 612 x 792 pixel page... I have a basic 2 col x 2 row table page produced on my hosting server(Site Studio) -in one of three cells I place the header then below left the .html and in the other cell to it's right I place several 336 x 280 flash animations all with the <embed> tags....this obviouly hasn't worked too well...but 750 + 336 is just under 1100 so shouldn't that be ok over all for most of todays Browsers? I don't mind the scroll bar vertically appearing as it makes room for more banner ads down the side (I think).

Network can't see my Mac after upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2

After upgrading to ML 10.8.2 (coming from Lion), the network (another mac and an iPad) can't see my Macbook-pro.
Using a network scanner (Fing on iPad), my Macbook is not there, and in the same way all the other services from Macbook-pro (such as Internet sharing, Filemaker sharing, ...) don't work.
My Macbook-pro is regularly connected to the right network and has a proper IP address (192.168.1.32 with 192.168.1.1 being the router, ...33 the other mac and so on). Also, my Macbook-pro perfectly reaches both other LAN devices and the internet.
I've tried disabling Firewall but nothing changed. I havn't got any antivirus nor security programs running.
Anyone experiencing the same issue?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
