Can't see music on iPod

I cannot see my music on my iPod. I do not even see the "Music" folder nor any playlists. However, I know the music is there because I can Shuffle and play the music. I am not sure what I did to cause this but I just recently removed all music from my iPod by connecting to a new PC with an empty library.
I have since copied my library from an old laptop to my new laptop. I have done a Sync, as well as manually managed the music. I've tried resetting the unit as well. Everything in iTunes looks perfect. I just can't see the music.
I have an old 40GB classic (the big clunky unit).

Hello there,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have a feeling this doesn't apply to older iPod models such as yours, but it may be worth a shot. Try heading to Settings -> Main Menu and making sure there is a check mark next to Music to show the Music menu on the iPod by hitting the Center button to place the check mark.
If that option is not available, I would recommend [Restoring|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339] the iPod via iTunes. This will reset everything on the iPod to factory settings and allow you to start from scratch with the iPod.
Hope this helps.

I can't see music/video files from my iPad2 or Nano on my Phillips home theatre. Do I need to covert the files?

The problem is I can no longer back up my photo and video files taken on my phone, saved to my mac, by copying them and saving them on a USB stick or other external hard drive.
Select the photos and videos in Photos and use the command "File > Export"  and select a folder on your USB stick to save the photos to.

Can you transfer music from ipod to ipod?

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Non-iTunes purchases by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

  • Can i transfer music from ipod to a new computer i do not have my old computer

Can i transfer music from ipod to a new computer i do not have my old computer files as it crashed.

For purchased songs you can plug the iPod into you new computer and use the "File > Transfer Purchases from iPod" feature in iTunes. For music not purchased from the iTunes store you will need a third party program to help. There are a few of them out there, and they are easy to find on Google.

  • Trying to backup ipod all music files changed to undf. format. Now I can't see them on ipod or itunes

I am not very tech savy, so when my computer died I tried to backup music files from ipod. The "other" had grown gigantic, and it said to restore it. But I knew that I had to save the files first. New ITunes wouldn't find them, so I tried other software. Now the music files are still on the ipod, but I can't see them or play them! Tried playing with VLC media player, it says it can't play because they are now undf. format. I know I need to convert them to something, but I have no idea how. I don't understand tags and such, but I do believe there are programs to reformat files? Please help! Keep it simple, as I am in my 60's and not very sharp about such things.

How do I enable it for hard drive use?
    My story goes thus:
Put movie on iPod hard drive to get it to my laptop (from desktop at home.)
Can watch movie on computer using iPod as an external hard drive. all good, but the iPod can't play it.
So I take the movie off the iPod and onto my Laptop, and use iTunes to put it onto the iPod.
Now the iPod will play the movie but if I go through "my computer" to the iPod, I can't see the files on there. what if I want to watch it at a friends house? Or on my own laptop. I don't want an iPod copy and a hard drive copy on my player, that halves the memory!
Is there some kind of softwre or setting I can use that lets me access the files on there for other use? I've got about 3gig of music on there so far, I know it's on there as it plays fine, but if I'm going to be jumping between 2 or 3 computers, I'd just like access to my files.
I don't want 2 or 3 copies of a movie, it takes up too much space.
    Looks like I need
A: 1 copy on the hard drive to play through Itunes,
B: a Second on the iPod to play round a friends house (or on my own Laptop, negating the need for "A") as a hard drive file, and
C: a Final 3rd copy also on the iPod for it to play itself, which it hides from "My computer"
If I could just get access to "C" through My computer I wouldn't need the first two (it's not a sync problem like someone suggested)
Why have apple made this so impossible?
My last MP3 player, you just copy and pasted the file. It was more like portable hard drive/memory that could also play the MP3 files that were on it.

  • Can I move music from IPOD to new computer?

My old laptop died. So I have a new one. I have 30 GB of music on my IPOD classic right now. But I want to transfer the music to my ITUNES library on my new laptop.
Is there a way to do this? There should be. I don't want to have to copy all my CDs to my new laptop. Why can't I just transfer the IPOD content to a new computer?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.

  • Can't add music to ipod touch even though computer and itunes recognize it

I have an ipod touch 4th generation that has suddenly stopped allowing me to add any music to it. It worked absolutely great with no problems for about a year  and suddenly when I load it up on itunes I can't add any music to it at all. if I try and drag any music from my computer on to it, I get this no icon as you can see
Same if I try and add music from my itunes library.
I've done pretty much everything I can think of to try and fix this, I've completely wiped itunes from my computer and re-installed, I've made sure that my ipods ios is up to date, I've reset my ipod, I've completely erased my ipod and restored it to factory settings. I have an old backup but it fails every time I try and restore it, saying that the backup session failed. I've tried resetting the lockdown folder as recommended but when I delete it, itunes can't connect to my ipod, so I ended up restoring the lockdown folder back to where it was from my trash can. I've made sure all my drivers are up to date and my computer is AMD so i know its not an intel chipset/ipod issue. I've turned off my antivirus and computer security programs and that made no difference at all.
These problems are the same when tried on another computer and I'm sure I've done other things as well but I'm drawing a blank trying to think them up.
I have an old ipod mini that has absolutely no problems at all using the same itunes and computer so I'm pretty sure this issue is located just on this ipod. I bought it used on amazon so the warranty and service coverage have already expired, so I kinda have to figure out how to fix it myself..
Anybody help at all with this would be greatly appreciated

I don't see how it could be windows causing the issue since my other ipod works fine with this installation of windows on this computer and I don't at the moment have anyway to back up what I have on my computer in order to re-install windows, but maybe if nobody else has another solution I'll look into it. Thank you for your help and suggestions

  • Can I upload music from iPod to iTunes? My music has disappeared from my iTunes account, but still have it on iPod.

Music on my iTunes account has disappeared, but still have it on my older iPod; want to upload it to iTunes, but when I hook up to computer, iTunes wants to overwrite the iPod.  I fear I'll lose it all.  Any help?

    Hey blite923,
Thanks for the question. If these are purchased songs, you can transfer purchases from your iPod to your computer without syncing:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1848
Transfer your purchases to your computer
Before you transfer your purchases, make sure that your computer is authorized with the same Apple ID account you used to make the purchases. Learn how to authorize your computer using iTunes.
If you bought the iTunes Store content on your device using multiple Apple ID accounts, you'll need to authorize the computer for each one.
To transfer purchases from your device to a computer:
Connect your device to the computer. Wait for its icon to appear in iTunes.
Go to File > Devices. If you're using iTunes for Windows and can't see the menu bar, learn how to turn on iTunes menus in Windows.
Choose Transfer Purchases from [device name].
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.
    Thanks,

  • Can't sync music to iPod

    Hello,
Normally, when I connect an iOS device to my Mac, under the "Music" tab, I am given the option to sync music to the device. However, when I connect my daughter's iPod Touch with a USB cable, under the Music tab it looks like this:
And I can't seem to find the option to allow me to sync music. Help! This is on a Mac Mini running iTunes 10, OS X 10.7.4.

Sounds like the your daughter's iPod was synced to another computer/iTunes library. you can only sync automatically with one iTunes library/computer. You can however copy music and videos from any iTunes library/computer if you sync manually. See that method included here:
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad

  • I can not see music on my nano

I have dowloade music from my PC to my nano. When I plug it in to my PC I see it on my nano. When I take it off to listen to it I can not see it.

If you have iTunes purchased music on your phone and then you should be able to copy it over to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the phone to it and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option - and similarly to copy iTunes purchases music from the Nano. If you have more than one device connected to iTunes at the same time then you might need to select the device in iTunes for the Transfer Purchases menu option to be active, otherwise iTunes won't know which device that you are wanting to copy content from (and therefore possibly disable the menu option).
For getting the music onto your iPod Touch, connect it to your computer and select it on your computer's iTunes - with the current version of iTunes, iTunes 12, you should (when a device is connected) get a 'device' icon at the top left of the iTunes screen next to the icons for the different types of iTunes content that you have in your library (music, films, apps etc).
e.g. this is what I see for my iPad (the blue icon at the top right to may partial screenshot is the 'device' icon, which is blue because I've selected it) - hopefully my screenshot will show, but there is a bug affecting images on these forums.
Select Music under Settings on that left-hand side of your iTunes, and on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen you should be able to select which of your iTunes music to have on the iPod.
Syncing with iTunes : Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod with iTunes using USB.
And similarly for syncing music to the Nano.

  • Old laptop died, can't get music off iPod

So I tried to follow the instructions for backing up my iPod, but I couldn't get it to work.
My old laptop died, but my iPod is fine. I want to transfer my songs from my iPod to the new laptop. My purchased music moved over just fine, but I can't get my CDs (which were ripped as mp3s) over to the new laptop. I'm using Windows, and when I mount the iPod as a hard drive, I only see the following folders:
    Calendars
    Contacts
    Notes
    iPod_Control (hidden)
Under iPod_Control, I have Accessories, Artwork, Device, iTunes, and Music subfolders.... the Music subfolder doesn't have any of the file names... any idea on how to quickly fix this? Thanks!

  • Can't drag music onto iPod?

Using a Mac for the first time (its been up & running for a while but I've just come home from eight months away so my first opportunity to use it, loving it!)...
Problem is that I can't drag music/audiobooks etc onto my ipod.
iTunes is definitely recognising my ipod and "Manually manage music" is checked but nothing happens when I try to drag music onto it.
Is there something I have to do because this is the first time I've hooked this ipod onto this computer? I can't imagine so because in Sydney I used internet cafes all the time and never ever had a problem adding music to my ipod.
I'm driving north for Christmas today & would really like to be able to listen to the new audiobook I've just downloaded. Help, please!

g'day and welcome to discussions !
instead of trying to drag & drop, sync playlists and audiobooks to your iPod.
browse through the various tabs for music, videos, etc. and put a "tick" in the box next to items you want on your Pod, then hit sync. see this KB http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351

  • How can I see songs on ipod while using iTunes 7.0.12.6

You used to be able to click on your ipod and manage all your songs on your ipod in the old itunes. Now when I click on the ipode I can't see anything on it. When I click on the music tab all I see are options to sync. Everything is "grayed" out when it comes to playlists, can't select them. And on the summary sheet I cannot select Enable disk use.

If you want to manage the tracks on your iPod directly, you need to set your iPod options in iTunes to manually manage the iPod. See "Loading songs onto iPod manually" in your iTunes Help for more information.
    Regards.

  • Since software update, can't see contents of iPod when connected to iTunes

About 2 days ago, when I connected my iPod to my pc (iTunes), it said there were some software updates for my iPod so I downloaded them and the iPod rebooted itself. Once it came back up, my iPod showed up in iTunes under "devices" on the left hand sidebar. I got the registration page - I usually click register later, but nothing happened this time. It didn't bring me into my iPod. So I tried to Register. I could get so far, then it asked if I wanted some free movie or something, I said NO THANKS, CONTINUE, but nothing happened. I wasn't registered AND I couldn't access my iPod. I can see my iPod under My Computer. I can see "sandra's iPod" uder devices in iTunes. BUT, I can't get to the content when connected to iTunes. All of my stuff is there on the iPod. I can play my iPod when it's not connected to iTunes - but I can't see the content, manipulate playlists, delete songs, etc. when connected to iTunes. I am almost positive this is a result of the latest software updates to the iPod. I have not updated iTunes - I didn't want to and compound the problem. I'm not a techy person - so please be gentle! Thank you. Sandra

    Resolved at home.
