Can't see my Airport Extreme base station

I wanted to upgrade my Base station's security to WPA2. So I went to the Airport Admin utility - But the base station does not appear there. My base station is set to be a close hidden network so I suppose that was the reason why it didn't appear.
So I decided to reset the base station. After pressing the reset button for 10sec
I went back to my PB and noticed that my wireless network name was changed to Apple Network ###### (which indicate that the Base station reset) BUT I still can't see my base station in my Airport Admin Utility.
1. Is there another way to reset the base station? did I do it right ?
2. Is there a way to see my hidden base station in the Airport Admin Utility ?
I know that I can log to a specific address (+password) but which one
should I use ?
Thanks
Eric

If you press and release the reset button on the base station, it will restart. If you unplug the power, then plug it back in, it will reboot. Holding the reset button like you did will cause the base station to revert to factory specs, meaning that you lost all of your customizations. So you have to re-configure the base station now.
If your PowerBook was connected to your network, you should see the base station in the Admin utility. Did you check to make sure you were connected to the network before you went into the Airport Admin Utility?

  • PS3 can't see new Airport Extreme base station

I replaced my old airport extreme with the latest one, but now my PS3, which is on another floor, cannot see the base station, and the new base station has a lot less range than the old one. With my old one I could sit out in the back yard with my laptop, and the PS3 picked it up right away over our wireless network, but now, nothing. My laptop connects okay, just can't go very far. Nothing has changed except the base station itself. Please help.

Hello Uri. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
A few things I would suggest that you try to see if either or both help with the PS3's connectivity to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn):
o If currently enabled, disable the Guest Network.
o Use a separate Network Name for the 5 GHz radio. Make sure that the PS3 connects to the 2.4 GHz radio's wireless network.

  • Ibook G-3 with old airport card can't see New Airport Extreme Base Station

I have been trying for a week now to get my G-3 ibook set up on my Airport Extreme Network. No matter what I do, I can't sign on to the network. When I put in the password I get an error message 3151. I have no idea what this means. I have read everything, restarted base, changed network password, trashed all airport and prefs on G-3 and reinstalled. Although my network shows up in the control strip, it doesn't show in the setup assistant. Please help if you can, I'm about to go crazy! Thanks.

Dear Duane, I did have 802.11b configured, but I had the WPA instead of WEP enabled. When I reconfigured my network, the clamshell was instantly able to join and use the network. I have many many questions about how to use the network to allow both computers to communicate, but I'll read up on it and I'm sure the answers will be there. You saved me $240.00 for the 1st hour and $160.00 for anything over that Techserve was going to charge me to come and set it up. I can't thank you enough. Everyone tells me not to waste money, but to save for a new ibook with System X, but I love my old clamshell and I'm going to get it a bigger hard drive so it can be upgraded to run OS X. It's the old 4 Gb one. I can't thank you enough for your solution! Now I can work on the laptop in my bedroom! I love Mac stuff and I knew the Extreme base station would work, regardless of what all the posters have been saying.

  • Can I use an Airport Extreme Base Station from the USA in Europe ?

A friend of mine gave me an Airport Extreme Base Station from the USA to Germany. When I hook it up to my PB by ethernet cable the Computer can't find the Base Station at all. If I use my Sonnett Aria Extreme PCI card it finds the station but in the pop-up menu asking in which country I want to use the airport station it only offers North and South American countries. How do I go from here and why is my PB not finding the station when I'm using cables ? Has it something to do with different models for different countries ? Any idea ? Thanx

    Here you go ...
Changing the Radio Channel on the AEBSn
Either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network, or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Setup, check these settings:
    AirPort - Wireless
    o Channel: <Use Automatic or select a preferred channel>

  • Can I use the Airport Extreme Base Station with my already existing D-Link router to increase signal strength?

I already own a wireless router that I would like to keep. Could I use this Airport Extreme Base Station to improve that signal strangth to my room from the living room or to the basement? Would I have to hard-wire both the Base Station and my existing router? You probably have read this question more than once, and I have read some questions of this product too, but for some reason these Apple products I have some trouble with.

Could I use this Airport Extreme Base Station to improve that signal strangth to my room from the living room or to the basement?
    Yes
Would I have to hard-wire both the Base Station and my existing router?
    Yes

  • Airport Utility doesn't see functioning Airport Extreme Base Station

I have an Extreme (n) Base Station which serves as a WDS main with one relay Express and one remote Express. All three are functioning properly. Now I want to add a second remote Express paired with the main Extreme. However, Airport Utility doesn't see the Extreme, even when hardwired. So I have no way to add in the Apple ID of the new remote.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Is it necessary to restore default settings on the Extreme and reconfigure EVERYTHING?
    Thanks.

Not yet. Hoping there is some other approach, since if I reset it and then it loses the connection before configuration is complete, I lose the functions that are working now.

  • Airport Utility can no longer see my Airport Express Base Station.

    Hi all the problem I have is as follows;
I've set up my Airport Express Base Station some time ago to print wirelessly from my HP Photosmart C4280 and it was working fine.
However recently when I've gone to print a document, even though the printer is working fine and the Airport Express Base Station is showing a green light nothing happens. I've gone into the Airport Utility and its say's it can't see the Airport Express Base Station (even though it still has a green light showing). If I unplug the Airport Express and plug it in again, the Airport Utility can suddenly see it again.
I've successfully gone through the reset process but after a few minutes the Airport Utility can no longer see the Airport Express Base Station which means I can't print a document wirelessly. I've repeated the reset process several times with the same outcome.
Everything was working fine up until recently, has the Airport Express Base Station developed a fault? or is there something I'm not doing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're comfortable resetting all settings, unplug it, hold down the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug it back in - keep holding it for another 10-20s until the amber light flashes
Then, open airport utility, now you should be able to see the device either on-screen or in the upper left under 'other wi-fi devices'

  • How to get this Airport Extreme base station to produce a wireless network?

I had this Airport Extreme base station working fine at the house that I moved from a couple of days ago.
After my house move, however, it seems that the AE base station isn't producing a wireless network. My wireless laptop isn't detecting a wireless network. Also, the left hand side light on the AE base station is not lit.
The AE base station was softly cushioned during house the move.
    Regarding configuration:
My non-wireless iMac (running 10.3.9) connects to the AE base station via an ethernet cable.
Before my house-move, I regularly connected wirelessly via the AE base station from a couple of wireless-equipped laptop computers.
I was using AE software version 5.6. (In desperation, I have just updated to version 5.7 - but that hasn't improved or changed situation.)
At the new house, I found that I had to reset the AE base station back to factory settings before I could successfully connect to the internet through the AE base station from the (non-wireless) iMac.
Since resetting the AE base station at the new house, I can also print via a USB printer that's plugged into the AE base station.
I just cannot pick up any sign of a wireless network from the AE base station.
G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Problem started while I had Airport Extreme software v5.6. No improvement/change after v5.7 update.

Sorry for my delay in closing this issue.
I got the wireless network running again - though I'm not sure which of a "litany" of separate actions (which I gleaned from dialogs in several similar postings for similar issues to mine) was the solution. I suspect it was one of the following two actions, which have stuck in memory:
    1) I relocated a nearby cordless phone cradle/charger/base-station from alongside the Airport Extreme base station to about seven feet (two meters) away. However, the cordless phone is about eight years old, and I believe its radio frequency is far out of the range that I have read (in similar postings) can interfere with the Airport Extreme base station.
    2) I re-set the Airport Extreme base station, (a) by depressing the tiny reset button at the rear of the base station for more than 5 seconds (until the led started blinking), (b) from Utilities/AirPort Admin Utility/Configure/Restart. However, I had reset the Airport Extreme base station those ways previously without that restoring the wireless network. Also, I didn't record the sequence of the multiple resets and the configurations at the times of the resets.

  • Using airport extreme base station modem to fax

Can I use an Airport Extreme Base Station with a modem to send faxes?

kersto, Welcome to the discussion area!
No. The built-in 56k modem is only for connecting to a dial-up ISP. There is no ability to send FAXes.

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • Mac Book pro can't connect to Internet through Apple airport extreme base station

I had problems connecting to the internet in the past with my macbook pro.  One day it suddenly started working again but then I bought a second apple TV I lost connectivity.  I have tried changing the IP address manually and while it shows me connected to the wifi I am still with out internet.  When I hooked up the new Apple TV that I bought it booted my computer from it's ip address.  The apple TV though wouldn't work and now nor would my computer.  I ended up setting the Apple TV's ip address manually and now it works fine. My computer on the other hand does not no matter if I set it manually or not.  Even if I plug in the ethernet cable from the base station it doesn't work.  It show that it has a self assigned IP address.  After I set it manually it shows that I am connected both via wifi and the ethernet cable but I can't connect to the internet.  If I plug the modem directly into the computer bypassing the base station I get internet and it is using the IP address that worked originally.
It has something to do with the connection from the base station to my computer but this is odd considering every other device I have: iPhone 4, apple tv, apple tv, apple mini with retina display all work perfectly via wifi (newest apple tv had to be set manually as I stated above but now works fine).  When I check the ip of the base station itself it seems to be different from the ip of the computer when the computer was connected directly to the router.  I don't understand why my computer now can't connect to the internet via the base station whether it be wifi or by ethernet.  Can you please help me trouble shoot this?
I have an AirPort Extreme base station which allows up to 50 users and a 30 meg connection speed.
    I have a MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

It has something to do with the connection from the base station to my computer
    I don't think so..
I just posted a reply which totally vanished.. strange strange website now.
Please post some screenshots of your AE setup from the airport utility.. I want to see the summary page, then the network and internet tab.
Please tell us what modem you use.. is it a router??
If you have satellite or 3G wimax etc service they often are limited to 5 IP addresses... the AE takes one and then 4 more devices can join .. no more.
You need to also give us the screenshot of the IP you are getting in a computer that works.
    EDIT
Sorry this is half double post.. the previous page refused to display.. now it has returned..

  • Airport can't connect to my Airport Extreme Base Station

    Hi all,
Just had this nagging problem for a couple of days. I can connect and see my aebs in airport utility but can't connect it to network in the airport menu. The network is fine and is working on my macbook, but the macbook pro can't see it. Both laptops are using 10.5.4 any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello paisleymum. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You shouldn't have had to reconfigure the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) just because you have a new MacBook. Was there a particular reason that you needed to?

  • I have an Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultanious Dual_Band) (MC340LL/A), and updated the software.  After updating no devices can connect via wifi.  Any suggestions.

I have an Appl,e AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultaneous Dual_Band( MC340LL/A.  After updating the software, no devices can connect via wifi.

As suggested in another discussion area, (AirPort), I reset the AEBS to factory defaults. On the TV, I went to >Settings>General>Network>Configure Wireless>Wireless Networks. I could then see the generic "Apple Network xxxxx" on the TV. From my MacBookPro, I verified that I could connect to the TV by launching iTunes and noting that the TV was now visible in the "Devices" menu. Went back to the AEBS and ran through the "Setup" routine. I did NOT use the "Previous Settings" but instead, saved the old settings profile, created a new wireless network and new settings profile and enabled WPA2 Personal encryption. I then went back to the TV and went through the "Settings" routine again (as noted above). This time, after entering my WPA2 password, the TV connected to the network and problem was solved. Thanks.

  • Cannot see Airport Extreme Base Station--Watch for 2.4Ghz traffic!

(Issue is addressed in the body of this post)
Great when working on 802.11n at 5Ghz, BUT...
If you have to be compatible with 802b/g you are forced to transmit at 2.4Ghz. Traffic at this frequency can be so bad that it made my station invisible (even with "Interface Robustness" activated). The "automatic channel selector" is supposed to choose a clutter free channel for clear communications, but it does not work well. I had to reprogram the station (through ethernet) to manually change the channel to a more stable one. In my case, channel 8 did the job.
After this, the Airport base worked perfectly!
I live in a condo area where I get 8 strong wireless networks, all at the same time. Add microwave ovens, TV's and cordless phones and you get a jammed 2.4Ghz highway. Make sure to select a channel that provides seagway to the "carpooling lane".

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
