Can't see my two Airport Express in the Admin Utility

I have a 12" PB and two Airport Extreme.
I am unable to see the two Airport Extreme stations through the Airport Admin Utility - but (here comes the strange part) - I see them both in my router's DHCP Active IP Table (freshly updated too).
Both base stations show a green light.
iTunes does not see any of them either...
Any idea what could be the problem? Do I have to 'free' some ports in the router for them to work?
Any hints appreciated!
Mario

I just tried something - in the Airport Admin Utility, instead of waiting for the base stations to show up, I clicked on 'Other' and entered the IP address. Well, I can edit/modify/reset both of them! This is driving me nuts. They seem to identify themselves fine on the network, but none seems to do the right thing! (I use one as my AirTunes, the other as my wireless printer connector).

  • Can two Airport Expresses double the range ?

    Hello
Can You daisy chain more than one Airport Express to get a strong signal ?
I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and an Airport Express in another room that extends the range of the network. Can I extend this range even further with a second Airport Express ?
Currently both Airport Expresses have stereos attached and work great and the first Airport Express extends the range but the second doesn't appear to extend the range even though it shows a good signal.
    Thanks

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and an Airport Express in another room that extends the range of the network. Can I extend this range even further with a second Airport Express ?
Yes, you will want to configure the first AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a relay base station, and the second AX as a remote base station in the WDS.

  • Can I use a second Airport Express on the 1st floor to boost the signal from the 2nd floor Airport Express?

We have a wiFi network with on Airport Express on the upper floor. Watching NetFlix via AppleTV on the television downstairs is annoying since it stops to buffer the video every few minutes (NetFlix works smoothly upstairs, closer to the Airport Express). Can I use a 2nd Airport Express downstairs to boost the signal? If so, how do I configure it?

Yes, you can use a second 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) to extend the range of the first one.
Here are the basic steps to do so:
Dynamic WDS - Extending a Wireless Network Setup
If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
Open AirPort Utility, and then, select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless.
Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
Enter the base station network and base station password if necessary.
Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • HT1178 Can I just use my airport express as the primary base station and the time capsule as the network client?

I bought a new airport time capsule 3tb to be used to save to file all my pictures. Can I use it as network client and the airport express as the
    Primary base station?

To my opinion this looks a bit like what I'm looking for.
At the moment I have an Imac that is wireless connected to a 2TB time capsule (TC1).
To this time capsule I have another 2TB time capsule (TC2) connected via a upt wire connection.
At the moment there is a backup made via time machine from the Imac to the time capsule TC1 (the second TC is not used)
I'm not so technical so I hope you understand the configuration.
What do I want to achieve :
copy all my data from the Imac to TC1 so that the information can be accessed by more users.
create an automatic backup from TC1 to TC2 (mirror or raid system) for security.
give access to some users on the network to access TC1 to read and write data.
TC2 only serves as backup from TC1 and no direct access is needed to this disk.
If there is a solution, thanks for explaining it in 'IT kindergarden style' so that I can understand and use the info.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Disappearing Airport Express Stations from Admin Utility / Fontbook

I am struggling with a strange phenomenon: I am using OS 10.3.9 on a Powerbook G4 12“, 2 Airport Express Stations (one as a basestation connected to a DSL Router, and the other one as an Airtunes station (using iTunes 6.01). Over the past weeks, I have repeatedly had problems like disappearing Airtunes connection, invisible Airport Express Stations in the Airport Admin Utility, and disappearing fonts from the fontbook (only the system fonts remain). The internet connection was always working, inspite of the invisible Airport stations (they still could be configured by entering their IP-addresses).
I have twice „reset“ the fontbook acc. to the X-Lab instructions (http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/undofontbook.html) including permission repair, cache cleaning, etc. However, after a couple of days (or new starts, I am actually not quite sure?) the problem has come back. The same with the Airport stations and Airtunes: Switching between different accounts in the network preferences (I am also using the Powerbook in other networks) I have usually managed to get the Airtunes connection back, but again usually only for some time. Today I have followed recommendations from the airport express discussion forum, hardly resetting both Airport stations and creating a new network with the Airport Set-up Assistant. The stations were again visible in the Admin Utility, Airtunes was back again, and, strange enough, all my fonts were back again (without removing any preferences, etc.).
However, after a shutting down the Powerbook and restarting it, the same problems are back: everything is gone again. I would really appreciate some hints what could be the reasons, and what might be a lasting solution.

Thanks again for your comments. Strange enough, after having newly configuring the network (IP-adresses were 10.0.0.1 for the basestation, 10.0.02 for the Powerbook, 10.0.0.3 for the Airtunes station) and then restarting the computer, everything was back to normal (airports visible, airtunes working, fonts visible). Alas, however when I again restarted, everything was gone again. (The ADSL-modem and router I am using is a SpeedTouch 530).
Acc. to your comment, I then changed to "distribute IP-adresses" in the Admin Utility and selected the 10.0.1.1 adress range (The basestation now uses 10.0.1.1, the Powerbook 10.0.1.2 and the Airtunes 10.0.1.3). Restarting resulted in everything visible again. I am now hesitant to restart again.
Anything you can recommend so that I better understand what is going on? I still think that there must be some relation between the network settings and the fontbook issue.

  • Can't see my older AirPort Express anymore with iOS7 on iPad2

Just updated my iPad2 to iOS7 and cannot see my AirPort Express (2 of them) 802.11g with firmware 6.3 anymore. Any solution to that?

None at this time. The AirPort Utility that comes with or can be downloaded from Apple for iOS devices does NOT support 802.11g AirPort base stations. You will need to either use a Mac or PC to administer it or replace the 802.11g AirPort for either a 802.11n or 802.11ac model.

  • Airport Utility can not see my 2 airport express.

It does see my airport extreme but it has stopped seeing the 2 express stations.  I have had this set up for years and play iTunes to stereo systems in 2 different rooms in the house.  But it just crashed and lost the connections to all three base stations.  I have been able to reset the Airport Extreme but Airport utility now will not find the 2 Airport Express units that I have.  These units are 802.11g capatible.

I have been able to reset the Airport Extreme but Airport utility now will not find the 2 Airport Express units that I have.
Suggest that you perform a Factory Default Reset on each AirPort Express (AX) and then reconfigure them to "join" the wireless network that is being provided by the AirPort Extreme.
Power down the AX for a moment
Hold in the reset button and keep holding the reset button in while you plug the AX back in to power
Release the reset button 8-10 seconds after you plug the AX in to power
Allow 40-45 seconds for the AX to restart back to a slow, blinking amber light
At this point, the AX is providing a wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must log on and connect to this network (no password is required) first, then open AirPort Utility, select the AX and click Continue to follow the guided setup.
You also have the option of configuring using Ethernet by temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from your PC to the AirPort Express if you do not want to configure it using wireless.

  • My iphone 4 can't see my new Airport express

I got a new Airport Express this morning because my old wireless router died.  I had no problems setting it up and getting my MacBook Pro and iPad to it, but my iPhone 4 cannot see it atall.  Any suggestions?

Not sure what happened, but this issue resolved itself after I looked at all the settings in the Airport Utility on my MacBook Pro and reviewing the network System Preferences, but making no changes.  Working great now.

  • How can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express

how can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express ?
The time capsule is near the Mac. ok
The first Airport is on the corridor, ok, works well and the App on the iPad signals so, ok
But when I plug the next Airport on another room nearby nothing happens, and signals disconected ....
is the signal so weak that is not able to go to ono room to the other ?

Well, even if you have the first express set up to extend the network, the second express can only extend from the TimeCapsule.
Maybe you got walls of sheetrook in the way, or kitchen/bathroom tiles, etc, dampening the signal rapidly.

  • Can I link up one time capsule with two airport express, Can I link up one time capsule with two airport express

Hi, I would like to know whether I can link up one time capsule with two airport express. The result why is that I would like to put one time capsule at first floor, two airport express at 2nd floor and 3rd floor. All these three share one network. Please advise. Thanks.

There are several ways to conenct them. We need to know what it is you want to accomplish first. Do you want better Wi-Fi coverage on the second and third floors or do you want to stream music to the xpresses?

  • Using iTunes to play music on two Airport Expresses simultaneously

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to set up a system where iTunes 7.0 on my Windows 2000 PC can play simultaneously to two Airport Expresses.
I've set up the first AE (call it AE1) by connecting it to my LAN with an Ethernet cable; it appears in the Base Station Chooser and I can find it and set it up. I set it up to 'Create a wireless network' and check both boxes in the iTunes tab, and give it an iTunes speaker name. At this point, everything's happy: I can see AE1 in iTunes, and play music to the speakers, and my Nintendo Wii can even get to the internet using AE1. I've left AE1 plugged in to the network.
Now the problem: I bought another Airport Express, call it AE2, and I want the new one to hook up to the existing network and let me play iTunes through the new one, as well. I connected AE2 to my LAN with ethernet and it showed up in the Base Station Chooser; I set it up to 'Join an Existing Wireless Network' and gave it the exact same Network Name: "Mike Home Network". I checked both checkboxes in the iTunes tab and gave the speakers a name. I then unhooked the ethernet, plugged in the speakers to AE2, and unplugged and replugged AE2 to restart it. The light flashes green, goes to yellow for a while, then goes solid green. (So I assume it found a network to hook up to.) iTunes shows the Multiple Speakers button, and I can pick AE1, but no sign of AE2.
I restart iTunes, but it still can't find AE2. Some support suggests using the wizard, but I'm on 2000 so it's not supported.
    So my questions:
    * Can I verify somehow that AE2 hooked up to the network that AE1 created? Ping it or telnet to it or something? (I can ping AE1 just fine.)
    * Is 'Join an Existing Network' the right way to do this?
(I also tried WDS with no success, but I may have done it wrong.)
    * AE1 is distributing IP addresses; AE2 is not. Is this correct?
Access Control is turned off on both AE's.
I have Wireless Security set to 'Off' on both.
(I'll re-enable it once I get these two going.)
    They're about 20 feet apart.
Wireless channel is 'Automatic' on both. (Also tried it with both on channel 8)
Firmware on both AE's is 6.3
    Itunes is version 7
Any suggestions? Anything at all, I'm absolutely stumped and this seems like it should be really straightforward....
      Windows 2000

Figured it out! thanks everyone for the help.
In the end, I fixed it by turning off 'Distribute IP Addresses' on AE1.
The problem was, if you want iTunes to find the wireless Airport Express, iTunes must be able to see the wireless AE's IP address. When AE1 was distributing IP addresses, it was performing NAT, which meant that iTunes on my PC could not distinguish between AE1 and AE2 behind it.
This is not clear in any of the documentation; I can't be the first person to be confused by this.

  • Can't extend network with Airport Express on Sky Broadband

    Hello,
I'm having some difficulty that's driving me bananas!
I've recently moved house and got Sky Broadband. They sent me their Sagemcom router and the setup was easy. I thought I'd do what I always do. I'll connect my Time Machine to it via ethernet, and connect via Time Machine's network. Then I have two Airport Expresses in the house to extend the network and use Airplay etc.
I can set up the Expresses with no problem, everything talks to everything without a problem and the lights are all green  but the network isn't getting extended with either of them. I refuse to believe they're both broken as I also borrowed an Express form my Dad's house (which extend the network without a problem) and it doesn't work with me.
Extend my network is checked in the Manual Setup in Airport Utility but for the life of me I can't get my network extended.
I have done tests where I replaced Time Machine and made one of the Expresses the main base station and it throws signal out easily like that but I can't extend that network with the second Express.
I followed this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/13171691?messageID=13171691 and have tried a few things to no avail. Currently I have configured an old Airport Extreme (just to keep testing) which works great and have set up an Express wirelessly. All lights are green and the settings seem to all be correct. I turn wifi off on my computer and connect to my computer from the Express using ethernet and nothing. Should I get a connection like this?
Is it Sky? I have read in a few places that Sky have disabled the ability to extend their network but I'm not eve using the signal from their box.
Any ideas or thoughts will be gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance.

OK so I've been tying it out but unfortunately to no success. Everything looks fine and all lights are green but the network isn't getting extended - just as before.
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the Time Capsule network
Check Mark next to Allow Wireless Clients
I don't have an option to extend a network, only to join: http://flic.kr/p/a222kR
I do get the option though if I use the guided setup, even though it doesn't work: http://flic.kr/p/a24TQQ
I did try one other thing though. I set up the Time Capsule and it works great. Then I tried instead, to use my Airport Extreme to extend the network. The Extreme did give me an option to extend the network in the drop down menu and a checkbox to Allow Wireless Clients, unlike the Express. I do believe that this is now working. I now need to find the best place to put it to extend the range.
My Expresses are only 802.11g so they're pretty old but as I said, it worked at my Dad's house but not here. Does it make a difference that the Airport Base Station at my Dad's house is an older UFO shaped Snow Airport? I'm becoming suspicious that seeing as I've only ever lived in small houses and apartments that maybe they never worked?? I've recently moved into a more spacious house so could this be the problem?
One final test using iStumbler showed that it could see Apple Network XXXXxX until I configured it. Once it was configured it disappeared from iStumbler. The Airport ID number had gone from the list.
Do I need newer n compatible Airport Expresses then? So many questions pop up now... When I turned my Express into the base station (which only throws out a g network) then surely I should be able to extend to the next Express (which is also g only)? It still didn't work. The Express are on version 6.3 by the way. Having the Extreme extend the network is a good start but I also need the others to work too. Do you think I'm correct in my assumption?
How about WDS, could that work? Will WDS slow the network considerably?
Sorry if this message is rather long and garbled and again, thanks for your interest and advice.

  • One Time Capsule & Two Airport Express for Range Extension but will my time capsule hard drive be accessible to all the user on network ?

I am planning to buy 2TB time capsule which is [2TB hard drive + Airport Extreme] and two Airport Express to extend the range of my wifi network. we have a large family & because of that we have 1 macbook, 2 laptops , 2 desktops, 4 iphones, 2 ipads, 3 android phones, 2 apple tvs, 2 ps3's. all of these devices are on my Wifi network but some of them are off usually ps3, apple tv and desktops computers r off but still their is alot of traffic. Now i am buying this 2TB time capsule instead of Airport Extreme so that i can save money by getting 2TB hard drive for me only & not the whole family so i want to know if i can keep the hard drive private & at the same time i want to share my internet connection with all of these devices which belongs to my family members, will this be okay ? and they wont be able to access my hard drive ? & will i be able to access my hard drive if i m connected to any of those two airport express & not the main time capsule. indirectly i will be connected to time capsule by using airport expresses in client mode correct me if i am wrong

You can use TC with whatever wireless you currently have.. if it works you should not need to buy a pair of express as well. The best method is to bridge the TC and plug it into the main router.
You can certainly keep it private for your own access only.. simply set a disk password only you know. Easy.
As long as you have a single network, then wherever you connect in the network will be able to access the TC.. but also note file speeds to the TC with multiple wireless hops will be terrible slow.
Also note all security on the TC is an illusion. It is a home device.. press reset and anybody can then access it. You can even get past disk password. If you want security keep the device off the network.. use an external hard disk plugged directly into the computer.

  • Renamed Airport Express with the Airport utility, but iTunes shows old name

I renamed my two Airport Expresses using the Airport Express utility because I have moved them in the house and the old names don't make sense anymore. In the AirPort Express utility, I can see the new names. However, iTunes (and Apple Remote on the iPhone) do not recognize these new names, they are still showing the old names. How can I get these devices to recognize the new names?

Actually I have solved my own problem. I hadn't realized that the Airport Utility has essentially two names for each Airport. There is the name of the device as the Airport Utility sees it, and then a different name called the iTunes Speaker name (look under manual setup in the Music area). This latter is the name that appears in iTunes. As soon as I changed this, iTunes recognized the new name.

  • Airport Express extending the range of my network HELP!

    Greetings!
I know there are similar posts on this topic, but I can't seem to find a solution so I'll just ask again!
Equipment: AirPort Extreme and two Airport Expresses (all are N)
We live in a long house and the AirPort Extreme sits on one end with the cable modem and I'd like to place two AirPort Expresses in the middle and other end of the house so we can get wireless.
I've tried WDS and extended and I can't get them to configure! What can I do? I'm out of ideas and time spend trying to set up an extender!!

Ok, this can be done with a static WDS.
Here is the basic steps to do so:
    Static WDS Setup
(Note: To facilitate the WDS set up, temporarily connect both 802.11n AirPort Express Base Stations (AXn) to any available LAN port on the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn). When setup is complete, you can then relocate them to the desired locations. Be sure to jot down the AirPort IDs (MAC addresses) for each of the base stations to be used in the WDS. The AirPort ID is printed on the label on the bottom/side of the base station.)
Main Base Station Setup - AEBSn
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the AEBSn.
    o Open AirPort Utility.
o Select the AEBSn, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu. (Note: You may have to hold down the Option key before clicking the menu for this option to appear on the 802.11n models.)
o Click WDS and then choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
o Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox.
o Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of AXn#1.
o Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
Remote Base Station Setup - AXn#2
    o Open AirPort Utility.
o Select AXn#2, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and choose the same channel as the main base station from the Channel pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and choose “WDS remote” from the pop-up menu.
o Enter the AirPort ID of the main base station in the WDS Main field.
o Click Update to transfer the settings to the base station.
Relay Base Station Setup - AXn#1
    o Open AirPort Utility.
o Select AXn#1, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and choose the same channel as the main base station from the Channel pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and choose “WDS relay” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
o Enter the AirPort ID of the main base station in the Main AirPort ID field.
o Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of the remote base station this relay base station will connect to.
o Click Update to transfer the new WDS settings to the relay and remote base stations.
