Can't see my vista pcs or directv or my linksys routers

My new imac i7 get an IP from my router, can get out to the internet, but it cannot see any of my other hardware. I have 3 other vista PCs, a direct tv receiver, and wireless routers that I should be able to see?
thanks,
rlk

My suggestions tend to be functional versus technical, so hopefully someone with technical networking expertise will pop by.
So looking at this functionally, I previously asked if the three Vista PC can see each other and do networking (file sharing). Can they? I also asked if the PCs can connect to the DirectTV box and use whatever networking functionality it has to offer. Can they?
Also, what are the specific functions you are trying to enable with the iMac on your network? In other words, what are you trying to do...?
Bonjour is what Mac OS X uses to facilitate networking. It may help with the connectivity between Mac and PCs if it was installed on the PCs.

  • Can't see other Macs/PCs on the network...

Since installing the Safari 6/Apple Remote Desktop Update I can't see other Macs/PCs on the network. If I restart I can see 2 Macs, but after a while they disappear, and I can see/connect to nothing...

If you are using DHCP check that it is getting the correct addressing. In the event that it is but still not working then test by giving it a fixed IP and see if it then works.

  • Can't See AppleTV (Vista 64-bit plus McAfee)

I have iTunes 9.0.1 running on Windows Vista 64-Bit. Wireless router: Linksys WRVS4400N w/firewall enabled. Running McAfee firewall; Windows firewall is not enabled.
I cannot get iTunes to see my AppleTV and vice-versa since I bought a new Vista computer.
AppleTV can see Internet fine and access iTunes. It cannot access iTunes and iTunes cannot see it. I know that computer sees the AppleTV device as it's IP address shows up in firewall network diagram and I can ping it. All other wireless devices I have can access the internet and my computer fine including 3 TIVO boxes, 2 laptops, and a Yamaha Disklavier Piano.
AppleTV software is fully updated and I resetup the wireless to see if that would help. Tried resets, reboots, etc. Everything say's it's fully updated and everything has been rebooted.
Also checked ports the TCP/UDP ports list on Apple Site to ensure settings are correct.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reply. Disabled both McAfee and Wirelss firewalls. Turned off and rebooted everything. Retried iTunes, still no view of Apple TV. Turned firewalls back on.

  • Can't see SMB (Windows PCs) on network after upgrading to 10.6

Just upgraded our office to 10.6 from 10.5 last week and now we can't see the handful of Samba shares in the Network shares list. Tired a couple things I've seen around to try to resolve this like manually setting the workgoup name in the NetBOIS tab, etc but to no avail. I can however access them via K and smb://servername/ but my users don't quite know that work around and I don't feel like having to walk them through it a dozen times before they remember. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

Replying to my own post, but I experimented with removing some software that might cause trouble, and the problem went away.
I removed iStat Menus (the old, pre-shareware version) and VirtualBox (newest, I think) so I don't know for sure which one of those was the culprit (if either), but hopefully this'll help people if they encounter similar problems.

  • I can't see my Windows PCs on my Airport network

I have recently setup my Time Capsule as my wireless router.  I have connected my MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Windows Vista Home Edition to the wireless network and can access the internet fine.  I can also connect to my Seagate NAS from the Macs as well as from the Windows Vista machine.  My 2 Macs can "see" each other on the network and I can successfully connect to each.  I cannot "see" my Windows machine from my Macs, or my Macs from my Windows machines.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help Tesserex. Ni was traveling last week and didn't have a chance to try your suggestion.  However, when I arrived home I was suddenly able to access all of my Mac and Windows PCs on the network again with full access to all of my shared files.
I didn't change any settings, it just started working.  Not sure if it took a while for the settings to propagate through my AirPort network, but it all seems to be working fine now.
Thanks again for trying to help.

  • Why won't OS X see my Vista partitions?

I got a new Macbook Pro and installed Vista using Boot Camp. Typically when I install Windows I use 2 partitions: 1 for the OS and applications, the 2nd for data. I like this setup because it allows me to restore or reinstall a corrupted OS without losing data.
Bootcamp assistant didn't give me a way to create 2 new partitions, but after it created 1 BOOTCAMP partition and I rebooted into the Vista install DVD I erased the BOOTCAMP partition and replaced it with 2 new partitions that were NTFS formatted. I then installed Vista on the first and it's working fine. I have no problem going back and forth using the option key while booting to select the boot OS I need.
However, when I'm in the OS X OS I can't see the 2 Vista/NTFS partitions. They don't show up under the startup disk control panel. Under Disk Utility, the space allocated to the 2 NTFS partitions are shown as a single, unmounted partition called "disk0s3" and under info it is erroneously identified as MS-DOS (FAT32).
When I caled Apple's support the tech told me OS X can't see NTFS partitions and this is the reason. However, having done some more reading I find this is wrong. From everything I've read it seems OS X can natively read NTFS partitions (but can't write to them). Since I primarily need to be able to move files from Windows into OS X this would be fine. I'd rather not have to use an external drive to do this.
I've also tried installing macFUSE/NTFS-3g which should add read/write capabilty to NTFS but it's still not seeing the those partitions.
Can anyone tell me what the issue here is and if possible, how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Ric, I've also been struggling to get OS X to see my second Vista NTFS partition. Wish I'd read your post a few days ago before I did the process (since I don't want to start again from scratch), grrr!
AFAIK, the EFI firmware that Mactel uses (which replaces the BIOS) dictates a GPT disk partitioning scheme instead of MBR, but that it's also capable of emulating the MBR interface for operating systems that don't support GPT...
Anyways in my case I'd let BCA create the (single) Boot Camp partition, then let the Vista setup DVD reformat it as NTFS (just reformat though, not delete/re-create the partition). After everything's set up I then booted into Vista and used the Disk Management GUI to shrink the OS partition and create a second NTFS partition for data (this winds up being the 4th and final Primary partition possible on a HDD, as you noted).
    {quote:title=_*FIRST SIDEBAR:*_}{quote}
Unfortunately, Vista's Disk Management often can only shrink an NTFS system partition to about half its original size, because there are usually unmovable systems files placed around the middle of the partition. I wanted to reduce my Vista OS partition even smaller than that, but I was scared to force-move these system files because I seem to recall other users having said that moving the MFT and such files caused their OS X to no longer be able to find the Windows partition. But I decided to try anyways...
I don't have a 3rd-party partition manager, so I used the PerfectDisk defrag program I already have to move these system files towards the beginning of the partition (note that this can only be done offline during boot-up defrag). In the end I was left with a single contiguous free space block at the rear of the partition, which allowed Vista Disk Management to shrink my OS partition down even further. FYI other defraggers I'd tried in the past couldn't seem to do this.
The good news is that afterwards OS X Startup Disk can still see my Vista OS partition, and I can read the files there just fine. But the second NTFS partition that I created is not shown! OS X Disk Utility displays my Vista OS partition usage correctly, but shows it as having the total size originally created by BCA.
For example, say BCA originally made a 180GB partition that I later split into 60GB OS (10GB filled) and 120GB Data NTFS partitions. Disk Utility sees only the Vista OS partition, with a 180GB total capacity, but correctly displays the volume as having 10GB usage and only 50GB available space. It's almost like OS X thinks that I shrunk the NTFS file system volume without shrinking the partition itself, and the rest of the space in the partition is unformatted...
    {quote:title=_*SECOND SIDEBAR:*_}{quote}
I also noticed that Vista Disk Management actually created my second NTFS partition as an Extended partition with a Logical volume inside it, instead of as a Primary partition. This seems the default behavior, presumably so that you can still create additional Logical volumes/partitions inside the Extended partition and bypass the 4-Primary-partition limit.
So I re-created my 4th partition (the NTFS Data partition) as a Primary type, because I thought that perhaps OS X can't see Extended partitions (which are implemented as a linked-list with the MBR only storing a pointer to the first Logical partition table located elsewhere). Since I don't have a partition manager, I used the Vista diskpart.exe command-line tool to do this:
    *DISKPART> CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY OFFSET=<offset in KB> ID=07*
I manually calculated the offset (to be right after the end of the first NTFS partition) so that diskpart.exe doesn't try to create the new partition in the 128MB EFI gap that Vista sees as free space (which is located before the first NTFS partition).
But no go, OS X still doesn't see the second NTFS partition!
Now I'm wondering if there's a way to manually create this 128MB EFI gap to put in between the two NTFS partitions, so that OS X will recognize the second partition?
Vista's diskpart.exe utility does have a *CREATE PARTITION EFI* command which:
"+Creates an Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) system partition on a GUID partition table (GPT) disk.+"
The problem is that in the Boot Camp scheme, Vista sees the disk as being an (emulated) MBR disk and not GPT, so I don't think this command would work. I'm afraid to even try, as I don't want to mess up the Boot Camp multi-boot loader.

  • My iMac with Leopard does not see Vista PCs on the network

My iMac with Leopard cannot see any of my Vista PCs on my network. I have an older G5 iMac (tiger) and the Leopard system see that one just fine. My older G5 sees my Leopard mac and all of the Vista computers. I just want the Leopard mac to see the Vista computers. Please help.

I'm having the same problem. It was literally working one minute and not the next. I also had this issue with my MBP but it was never resolved. I can ping the vista machine but not connect to the folder structure. This is really annoying because my vista machine is acting as a server and I need to remote desktop from the iMac to the windows machine.
    Any ideas people?

  • Can see Windows PCs from Mac, but can't see (and access) Mac from PCs

Yesterday, I ran into a strange problem which I'm not able to figure out.
I share an office with some engineers, who have their computer environment (server, network), all running Windows (XP and Vista on the PCs, Windows 2003 for the server).
Within that environment, I have 2 PCs (both XP) and an iBook G4 (Leopard 10.5.4.). I have also a printer (Epson Laser), which is connected to the office network, and an Airport Extreme Base Station.
Until last week, I could connect from my PCs to my iBook (wirelessly), and from the iBook I could connect to my PCs, the server, and via the server print on my printer (again, all wirelessly).
Over the weekend, I took out the Airport Extreme Base Station (to help with an issue at home - see my thread over at Printing), and yesterday I brought it back to the office and installed it again.
And since I re-installed the Base Station, this is the problem:
    1. from PCs, I can't see the iBook (can't attach a PC drive letter - eg. I:\), and therefore can't access it
    2. from the iBook, I can't print to my printer - furthermore, when I select the Printing preference and click "Add Printer", no printers whatsoever show up (the list stays blank), whereas before the engineers' printer (some Minolta Bizhub with Bonjour) would show up as well
    3. I can, however, access the Windows server from my iBook
Any ideas what's going on? I tried to solve this, but gave up quickly (no way I can possibly figure this out), plus I have this issue at home (can't print wirelessly to a printer attached via USB to a Time Capsule - I can, however, print to the same printer if I attach it to the previously used Airport Express!) - 2 problems and mounting headaches!
I am thinking about re-installing the whole system (take off all data, do a complete wipe and start afresh…), but don't like to spend a whole day doing this…
    Again, thanks for any advice!
    Jan

You only need one computer to configure the Base Station - and since you can easily do this from your PC, you really don't need to be able to do it from your Mac as well. I suggest you stop worrying about this, leave your Base Station running with the current firmware version, and use your PC if you ever need to make a configuration change.
Note that NO Base Station software needs to be installed on the Mac, for the Mac to be able to connect wirelessly to the Base Station. If your Mac is currently unable to establish a wireless connection to the Base Station, you have a different problem - and one that won't be solved by installing the Airport Admin Utility or downgrading firmware on the Base Station. Incidentally - what type of wireless security are you using on the Base Station - WEP or WPA? A base station configured to use WPA security will only be accessible by a Mac running at least MacOS 10.3.

  • Can't see wireless network with Windows Vista

I have the Airport Extreme N and two PCs, one with W XP and one with W Vista. Everything works fine with the XP PC. On the Vista PC, I can connect to the network with LAN, but I can’t see the wireless network.
The W Vista PC can identify other networks around the block, so the Broadcom 802.11g network adapter seems to work fine. The wireless runs on channel 13, which is OK for the XP PC. I have installed the latest update for the Airport Extreme.
Any suggestions to what I can do to get the W Vista PC working on wireless?
    Best, Kasper

    Hi,
I also have the same problem.
My belkin wirelss router is set to channel 13, therefore my macbook cannot see this network when it search's, for the above reasons.
However unlike the situation above I am unable to change from channel 13 as we have discovered in the past that this is the only channel that is not in use by other networks around our area. The rest gave us interferance troubles.
I have a number of windows laptops in the house and there is a setting that you can change so the laptop will search for channel 13. I was wondering if anyone is aware of a setting on the macbook that will make the airport card search for 1 - 13 not just channels 1 - 10 as it is now.
I thought I would add this question to this topic as it is very similar. I hope I was correct in doing so.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Device instance error, vista can't see media card

    hello,
I have a pearl 8110, with desktop 6 and vista.  After upgrading to version 6 I get this device instance error and specifically can't load any media onto the memory card via usb.
    USB\VID_0FCA&PID_8001\5&3100FCC1&0&5
been through the forums for months tracking this down on how to clear it.  Downloaded the calfix.exe program as that was the only clue that related to the 8001 error, ran it and nothing, did not work.  Fix was for versions 4.7 to ver 5.
I can sync, load and upgrade BB software without any problems, tried two different memory card manufacturers, formatted card, pulled battery so many time don't ask me to do it again.  mass storage mode is on, but software keeps telling me to turn it on even though its already on, been on since day one!  Everything works via bluetooth, pictures, video, mp3, but windows just can't see the memory card.
Also went through the computer management to loocate the drive, but no luck?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix?

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
Are you attempting the format or looking at the Media Card from the BB WHILE you are plugged to the USB?
Unplug and try it all again.

  • Vista users can't see my flash

I've got quite a number of clent websites out there with
flash headers. Some clients are now telling me that they can't see

farther down on the page they can see it. We're using exactly the
