Can't see NAS any longer

I have my iTunes library on a NAS. That worked perfectly - for a while.
Then I moved house. For a while I didn't have a network set up in the new house, so I changed the library back to one I still had on the Mac's internal disk.
Now I have the network and I wanted to go back to using the NAS. However, I can't get iTunes to recognise it. Although I have changed the iTunes preferences to point to the NAS, the program still insists on accessing the library on the internal disk. I even tried renaming that library but then iTunes just created a new, empty library.
One other problem that is maybe related: I had to re-install Snow Leopard a few days ago (after the system hung during booting). Have I forgotten to set up something that was done before? Presently I haven't installed any updates to Snow Leopard (I only have access over phone and didn't want to download 600MB). (I have also just updated to iTunes 9.0.2 but that didn't help).
Any ideas? Help would be much appreciated.

I've solved the problem now, using a tip I picked up in another thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2246020&tstart=0, i.e. starting iTunes with the Option key held down and then selecting 'Choose Library'. Whether I was always doing that before moving to the new house and just forgot, I do not know - wonderful what a hectic month can do to your memory!

Go to the Music section of your Library (very top-left corner) and see if your songs are there. The "Purchased" playlist may have been deleted or gotten corrupted, but if that happens it's not a big deal because your music should still be in your main Music Library.
If your music is NOT in the Music section of your Library, then go to the iTunes Store homepage and find the Quick Links list on the right side. At the top of that list, click Purchased and you can redownload all of your previous content that you might have lost.

I can't access Safari any longer. Each time I click on the icon, it states that "the address is not valid".
I've even deleted the Safari and downloaded it again, but the same message persists. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

address bar wasn't accessible, so I did the Toolbar drag back. The invalid address is set as home page in Safari - Preferences - General.
Tried opening safari again holding the shift key, but made no difference Andy.
Can I just type in a new address in "home page in Safari - Preferences - General"?

  • Can't see NAS drives

I'm setting up the D-Link DNS-343 on a MacBook, 10.5.5. I also run WinXP via VM Fusion. Once I got the two drives past hanging at 94% format (deleted cookies per FAQ), I could access the NAS via the web UI from both the Mac and PC sides, but I can't see the drives in Finder or Windows Explorer. I've played with the settings, updated the firmware, etc., but still nothing. Any ideas?

It has to be mounted as a network drive. It just won't show up on the Desktop. Use the Connect to Server selection from the Finder's Go menu. Give the IP address to the NAS that was provided in the manual.

  • Can't see NAS after upgrade to 10.8

Help - I can't see my NAS after upgrade to Mountain Lion OS on my macbook air. I just see a blank window using command+shift+K -- used to see my drive.

    Hi,
Check with the manufacturer of your NAS, there may be a patch/firmware update available, or one in the works. Not all software/hardware manufacturers get their drivers, or updates, to Apple in time for distribution, or they haven't tested their products with ML.
    Cheers,

  • Can't see NAS device connected to BEFW11S4 v2

I have an Iomega StorCenter 250GB NAS drive that works perfectly well when directly connected to a Windows XP SP2 laptop.  When I plug it into my Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 router, I can not connect to it.  All of the right LEDs light up on the router and StorCenter, so I don't think the router/NAS connection is at issue.  Presumably the problem has something to do with the way the router is configured, because as written above, the NAS works fine with a direction connection.
    Other details:
The router has a vanilla configuration with the exception of being WEP-enabled; every other setting has its factory default
I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 connected to the router via the router's WAN portful
Iomega support wasn't help with the exception of suggesting that I contact Linksys
I'll happily supply any other details that will help troubleshoot this problem.

This is your problem the NAS has an IP: 192.254.12.194
Now the BEFW11s4v2 has an IP of - 192.168.1.1, basically they will not see each other because the IP of the NAS is not in range of the router. do you now how to set a manual IP of the NAS? If you do please change it to 192.168.1.194. Hope this works!

  • Rescue & Recovery can't see backups any more

Hi!  (new here, so hello all!)
I have been using R&R on my T420 (Windows 7, 64-bit) for a while now, carefully backing up my C:\ to an external USB drive every few weeks, or when I install something major.  I had 29 backups on the disk.  The disk is a 2TB disk with around 1.5TB still available.  It can be read through Windows when I use Explorer and shows up in autorun, etc. when it's plugged in.
However, when I run R&R (it's currently v4.5), it says that no backups are found on the external USB drive... and wants to start again at "Base" system level.
Any idea what would cause this?  I'm not sure if R&R got updated recently with System Update, but TVSU 5.0 isn't working for me, so I've just uninstalled it (as per another thread in the forum) and I'm just going to install 4.3 again.
    Any thoughts would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Mohit.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for being so patient with me.
    Step - A
    1. Yes, I can see RRBackups in C, D and E and also on my recovery USB HD.
    2. When I change permissions and go into the folder on C: it has a few files, but from around Mar 2012.
    3. When I do the same for R: (ext USB), it has the folders for C and Q, etc. and C has backups 0 - 16 (I just realized that I had skipped numbers, so I don't have 29, but 17 backups over the past 6 months) <-- this shoud mean that the base and incrementals are all on R:
    Step - B
    1. I think I started with RNR 4.3 because I got the laptop in Jan 2012 (much after 4.5 release - Nov 2011)... I have never uninstalled RNR or re-installed it, so if TVSU doesn't update it, it should have been 4.5 from the start.  I have 4.50.0025.00
    2. RNR settings are pointing to USB because I always use the "Change schedule, manage backups, ..." option and then give the backup a name and confirm "save backups to external usb drive" before starting back-up
Finally the rather long log dump from the log (just the current session)

  • Macbook pro can't see NAS drive since Mavericks upgrade

    Equipment:
13" Macbook pro (mid 2010) running Mavericks 10.9.4, Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory  16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256Mb, Crucial SSD 240Gb, Seagate Goflex Home NAS drive 2TB, Wifi network is BT Infinity.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, my macbook pro cannot see the Goflex Home drive on the network at all. I am confident that the problem lies within Mavericks as the Goflex Home drive can be accessed perfectly on the same network using my older PowerMac, my iPad and my iPhone. Also, the NAS is accessible via the internet through the Seagate Share facility.
Can anyone help me get Mavericks to see my drive?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks Csound1 for your suggestion but I checked that I was on the most up to date version of software. I have been successful though in establishing contact with the NAS by following the steps outlined here:
    http://support.seagate.com/kbimg/flash/215555/215555_EN.swf
It means that I have to 'connect with server' through the 'Go' menu in Finder each time now and I would like to know how I can make this happen automatically each time I boot up my MBP.
    Thanks.

  • I just can't TRUST you any longer Adobe (major gripes)

I bought a Macbook Pro 17, upgraded the Ram, loaded only one program (actually Design Premium), and completed all updates and started in working on all my images from this summer in Alaska. I even went out to purchase the Apple Cinema Display to view and work strictly in Bridge and Camera Raw for editing, before converting into Photoshop to finalize.
So, now that I have spent over $7,ooo what have I found:
    1. Bridge is displaying whatever previews it wants and clearing the cache does absolutely nothing to help and in fact is a poor system to purge the cache, as it instantly starts building the thumbnails again before you even say OK and thus the problems are once again there.
I have tried every option within reason to correct this. Set up a root cache folder. Elected to only show HQ previews when viewing versus allowing them to be built all at once. I have waited for the previews or thumbnails to be built and allowed the notebook to do its job and waited the 5-6 minutes and not touched anything in hopes of success only to see the images I click on in content and the preview image is again NOT THE SAME IMAGE!!
I cannot right click on that image in content window and ask to rebuild the preview image but have to do the whole process again and again it fails, no matter what option I choose.
I can open the image in ARC and make a slight correction to get that preview image back, but then later it will change again and show some other image from some other folder or even my trash can when I click on the thumbnail.
There is no way you can call this a light table for editing and selecting images.
    2. So I made way the best I could through this and spent several hours just selecting images to edit later. I did not do anything but empty the cache again and now all those tags for selected images are gone! Hours of work - GONE! I did not throw away the cache folder which would cause this, but only purged the cache and set the option to show HQ preview when image selected. So all my labels are now gone!
I have opened images in Photoshop using the Open Image and can't wait to actually finish editing images, but I first must be able to select, label, and edit with Camera Raw before I can go into Photoshop and at this rate, I am spending ALL my time just trying to get Bridge to show the correct image in the Preview Panel. ITS NOT HAPPENING!!!
$7,000 for a system just to edit photos using Adobe products which they advertise as the best for such use and yet I cannot get one product to work. Bridge.
    What gives?!!!
I am losing all faith in Adobe and know calling customer support only to speak with someone in India who cannot even pronounce, much less spell, my name and won't have any understanding of this is not an option I look forward to.
I am in San Antonio right now but do live in Seattle, in Fremont, near the bridge... and am more than willing to cut my vacation short and miss the holidays with my family this Christmas just to come to your office with my system to find a solution.
What will it take to get this corrected. I have spent money on your products, now can we get them to work?
Yes, I am upset. And have no faith nor trust in your company right now. Please, help correct this mess and restore my faith, and trust. When can we meet and what will it take?
    Randal

I, too, have found Bridge very unstable. I find this to be extremely disappointing, seeing as it's literally the most expensive piece of software I've ever purchased for personal use. I've seen these two symptoms:
    1. When running in full screen mode, Bridge crashes periodically. This happened on Vista, so I blamed Vista (of course), but even after regressing to XP SP2, I see the same symptoms.
    2. Although I didn't see this on Vista, running on XP I see the problem described earlier in this thread, where clicking on a thumbnail displays the wrong image preview. When this happens the image displayed is one from a different folder! I solve the problem by clearing the cache, and it's OK for a while, but the problem keeps returning.
    3. Even when exiting cleanly from Bridge (using File->Exit), Bridge often forgets where I was working in my previous session. I need to re-navigate from the very top level directory down through the hierarchy to my photo directory.
Again, it's very disappointing to invest so much in a single software package only to see such basic operations malfunction.
