Can't see network drive attached to AirPort
Hi All
I'm a newbie Mac user (just got my MacBook Pro last Thursday, in fact-- OS X 10.5.7). While I've got most of my issues doped out, I'm running into a problem connecting to a network drive that's plugged directly into my AirPort Extreme. I have three Windows systems (running XP and Vista) that can attach to the drive with no problem, but I can't figure out how to mount the drive under OS X.
If I use the Finder and select the router under "Shared", the Finder just spins with the message "Connecting..." for ages until it times out.
If I try to attach to a server, that doesn't work-- I've tried all the protocols in various flavors. Everything times out. I do get the message that the server or password is incorrect, but I never see a prompt for a password, so I am not sure what's going on there.
In short, I'm stumped. When I open up the AirPort utility, and view the disk, the drive is attached-- it has a name, and it gives the correct statistics on used/free space. When I go to File Sharing, the checkbox for Enable File Sharing is clicked.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
-EdWell, I'm stumped. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support-- they ran through the scenarios I had already been through, and they came up with nothing useful. I ended up taking a second 160gb HD that was formatted NTFS, and formatted if for HFS+. This drive was visible through Finder. I took the same drive, formatted it for FAT32 and, surprise, surprise, NOTHING VISIBLE.
The "just works" philosophy is OK, but it's bunk when it comes to network drive support. I'm doubting the wisdom of this purchase now.
$2500 for a computer that can't connect to a network drive that can be seen by an $500 Dell laptop?
The issue simply seems to be this: put a FAT32 drive on another box, and it can be shared by Macs and Windows boxes.
Put that same FAT32 box on an AirPort Express, and my Mac is BLIND. It can't see the drive. -
Ultra 10 OBP can't see SCSI drives
I'm trying to get my Ultra 10 to boot off a SCSI drive. I've tried several controllers (SYM21002, SYM21003, and another 53c896 card) and several drives, but probe-scsi-all returns nothing. If I boot off an install CD (the CD drive is still IDE), I can see the drives and install an OS on them, but when I reboot it still can't see the drives at the ok prompt. I've tried OBP 3.31 and 3.29 with the same results in both. Any idea how I can get it to boot off a SCSI drive? Or, failing that, is it possible to boot a bootloader on an IDE drive, which then boots off the SCSI drive?
you say you can install with scsi drives, but on restart it won't boot? what is the U10 looking for? did you try boot disk ? the U10 may be looking to boot off the network or somewhere off..
I don't recognize the chip numbers... are they supported by Sun? I have only used Sun-branded scsi cards--- 375-0005 comes to mind...

I can't see hard drive attached to Airport extreme from Windows XP computer
I have a Windows XP computer on my network. I can no longer see the network hard drive attached to Airport Extreme from the XP computer. I can see it with all the MACs on my network and all the Windows 7 computers. I can connect to the internet with the Windows XP computer. I previously had no problem seeing the network hard drive attached to the airport extreme from the XP computer and one day it just disappeared. I have deleted and reinstalled Bonjour, not just Bonjour print services. I can print to a network printer that is not attached to the Airport Extreme. Help!

The screen on my MacBook goes black often. I can still see a faint image of what's on the screen, and can only get it to illuminate by moving it back and forth. What could the issue be? How can it be fixed?
The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk. -

I've bought an optical super drive for a macbook air but although I can hear there is power I can't see the drive in menus
Unless there's a disk in there, you won't see it.

Time Machine over network: can't see hard drive
I've connected an external firewire 800 drive to our server and then chosen it in Server Preference as a drive that users can backup to, however when I try to select it in the user's Time Machine prefs I can't see the drive. Any ideas?
Is no one else having this problem?

I'm setting up the D-Link DNS-343 on a MacBook, 10.5.5. I also run WinXP via VM Fusion. Once I got the two drives past hanging at 94% format (deleted cookies per FAQ), I could access the NAS via the web UI from both the Mac and PC sides, but I can't see the drives in Finder or Windows Explorer. I've played with the settings, updated the firmware, etc., but still nothing. Any ideas?
It has to be mounted as a network drive. It just won't show up on the Desktop. Use the Connect to Server selection from the Finder's Go menu. Give the IP address to the NAS that was provided in the manual.

How can I see which computers (computer name) Creative Cloud is installed on?
How can I see which computers (computer name) Creative Cloud is installed on?
Hi Arno ten Hagen,
To check for activation you need to go to all the machines in which you have installed CC apps, launch any of the CC software, go to help and you will see the email address mentioned by which you are logged in to that machine.

Can't mount NTFS drives on 10.5.8
I was given a 1TB WD external drive today that won't mount on my MBP. When I plug it in, I get a window that says, "The disk you inserted could not be read by this computer."
Under Disk Utility, I can see the drive icon and gather the info under "Format: Windows NT file system (Tuxera NTFS)" When I click to manually mount it says "Mount Failed".
I downloaded trial software from Tuxera and another from a company called Paragon. Both are system preferences that are supposed to allow the ability to write to those drives. I was hoping it would just let me read, but no such luck.
I was able to read it on a Windows machine at my neighbors so I know that the drive works.
I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.Bonsai3 wrote:
What should I format drive #2 as so that it will work on my Mac as well as his PC?
NTFS will be fine. you might want to uninstall the other NTFS apps currently on your Mac and install the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver instead.
alternatively, you could format the drive for Mac and install MacDrive or [_*HFS+ for Windows*_|http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows> on his PC - @ your expense, of course -
My mac has a "Kernel Panic" screen come up on start up. No matter what I try I can't get past this to fix it. Any hints out there? Do I have to completely wipe my drive and re-install to fix this? I can't even back up my files before doing this as like I say I can't get past the Kernel Panic message.
There are some fairly informative articles about kernel panics...
•OS X: About kernel panics:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Note the toggle triangles to get more info in the above article, some are
important steps, with alternative methods of accessing or performing a
suggested activity and may vary with the OS X version in use.
•Resolving Kernel Panics:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
•Technical Note: TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics:
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2063/_index.html
The above TN covers several technical aspects to identify & troubleshoot.
Some are above the average user needs, but still can be rather helpful.
Hopefully you can get past the kernel panic screen, there are several
ways to attempt to do that, however if the issue is hardware, a reinstall
of the OS X may not cure the underlying cause of the symptom.
Good luck & happy computing! -
Window initialized my usb drive, now i can't see my drive
well, i've been using my g-drive on my mac, and thought i could just unplug and plug it into my windows machine. without realizing it, i initialized the drive on windows side. i was afraid to do anything afterwards, realizing that i just had window did something to my disk, and just unplugged it and plugged it into my mac again, now i can't see the hard disk or disk utility is not recognizing it... help, what do i need to do to the usb drive so that my data is back again .
Hi mr.wOrm;
If Windows formatted the drive for you, I think your
chance of recovering anything at all are very slim at
best. I take you don't have a backup. That is always
the safest thing to do is backup. If in doubt back it
up first and then think about what you are going to
do next.
If Windows has totally destroyed everything it is
possible that you can download some software from here that might
be able to recover some of your data. Th demo you
download will tell you what it can recover. If what
it can recover is worth your while then you must pay
for the software to actual recover it. You will also
need a blank disk to place the recover data on to.
Good luck
Allan
hi allan,
well the good news is that i actually use EnCase for forensic, but i can't believe that i would screw up like this and have to use it myself. worst case scenerio, i would have to go into work today or on monday and try to recover this forensically :(:(:(:(
i was hoping that it was some quick thing that would reinitialize my drive and viola -
I have a 160Gb external UDB drive (Toshiba Gigastore) that I've repartitioned from being 100% NTFS into a 50Gb primary Fat32 partition and a 100Gb primary NTFS partition.
I was hoping to use the Fat32 partition to back my MacBook up and the NTFS partition to share (read-only) files from my Windows PC.
When the drive was 100% NTFS, my MacBook could see all the files, but now I've repartitioned it, the MacBook can't see any files on the NTFS partition. Disk Info knows there's some files there as the free/used spaces are correct, but I can't see anything.

Funny that the ls list on the Gigastore showed two '..' entries rather than '.' and '..'.
I wonder if it's because I've partitioned this disk into two? It was working fine as one large NTFS partition. Maybe I'll try making the NTFS partition first then a second FAT32 partition.
