CAN'T SEE SHARED FOLDERS FROM THE PC ON MY MAC SINCE SNOW LEOPARD UPGRADE

HELP! Ever since I've installed Snow Leopard on my iMac, I don't see my folders I selected for sharing from the Microsoft PC computer in my network anymore. I can't seem to locate anything. However the PC is able to see the folders from my iMac. If anyone has solutions to this problem, your help would greatly be appreciated.

The problem in my case, seems to be that the SL mac is not setting itself as the master browser, so when a Windows PC is switched on, it doesn't update that computer in the finder sidebar.
You can see if this is the case, by opening terminal, and typing:
nmblookup -M -- -
If it comes back with "name_query failed to find name _MSBROWSE_#01" then you've got the same problem as me. With Leopard, my mac would report back as the master browser.
It's got nothing to do with the firewall (I've tried turning mine off ,to no avail). Also, my workgroup is correct, and smb sharing is turned on for the user.

When you installed Snow Leopard, Tiger was replaced, leaving your programs and files intact.
What is causing your freezing problem is unknown, you can take Kappy's advice and remove everything, but you lose your files and free iLife programs that came with Tiger/new machine.
The 10.6.3 disk you "upgraded" with has the full 10.6.3 on it, but no free iLife suit, so a erase and install will remove what you already have installed.
You can try to locate your problem without the erase and install method by running through this list of fixes.

But before you do anything, backup your personal data off the machine to a extenal drive and disconnect.

Because if you have to follow Kappy's advice and wipe and install 10.6 fresh, it will cure your problem in nearly 99% of cases, but you have to rebuild everything. All programs and files.

If this is all too much for you, then STOP and call a local PC/Mac service or competant friend to assist you.
Yuo might need to install more RAM into the machine to make 10.6 run better as well.

If those don't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of compressed air. Chances are that your drive has failed, join the club it's not all that uncommon. You can either have it replaced or purchase an inexpensive external drive. Don't buy the cute little Apple USB Superdrive, it won't work on macs with internal drives working or not.

I feel your pain. I am a long time user of Palm Desktop/Claris Organizer and have an iPhone that I really can't sync except by doing an export and import into iCal, etc. You might try Missing Sync. I have been working intermittently with writing a replacement for Palm Desktop, but I've only gotten as far as dumping out the information for everything (except repeating appointments) as an XML file.

Cannot see Shared Folders from xmlpserver - OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.5)

I have got a an issue with the permissions i.e. I can log in to http://hostname:7001/analytics and open a report that is stored in "Shared Folders" but if I log in to http//hostname:7001/xmlpserver with same user I cannot see Shared Folders.
How to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

The user is the Admin user. This user is part of XMLP_ADMIN group as well.
I can create a file from http://hostname:7001/xmlpserver in the shared folders but cannot see. I can see the same file from http://hostname:7001/analytics. any idea?

Can I hide certain folders from the 'tree view' under Site Manager - Pages?

In the above image, is there a way to hide the circled folders from the listing?
This will help in reducing confusion and possible breakages.

unfortunately there is not, educate the admins of this site not to touch these folders instead. That's what I do with my clients and it works just fine.

Can't see shared folders with AFP protocol

I have an home network, with 2 iMac and a Netgear (DG834PN) router.
When I try to share a folder with AFP protocol (Preferences > Sharing > Sharing documents),
I can't see it from other computer.

Just to dig in deeper with this. I'm having a similar problem (perhaps the same) as described above.
I'm using smbnetfs to mount a folder in my home directory to be my network neighbourhood. When I open it in pcmanfm I can see the work groups, and upon opening a workgroup it'll show nothing more. But in fact, when you open the terminal and do a ls -a you'll notice there are in fact folders corresponding to your computers in that workgroup. Browsing any further works flawlessly.
It's however a minor annoyance that pcmanfm doesn't seem to show them (you can however add a slash to your navigation bar and they'll show up there, rather weird). Has anyone found a way to solve that?

I can't see shared printers from a Mac with Leopard

Hi there we got a new MacPro that came with Leopard but when I want to add the printers shared by two old Macs it can't see them, it only find and HP Color LaserJet 2600n that was shared on a Mac Book. The other Macs has OSX 10.3.9 (a G5) and 10.3 (a G4), one share a HP LaserJet 1200 and the other an Epson Inkjet Printer. We also have a MacPro (a core 2 duo) with OSX 10.4 that can find all the printers.
I was wondering if the version of the old Macs has something to do with my problem, maybe the Leopard can't reach them or something like that.

I'm having trouble with smbnetfs. i installed it successfully, but the folder where the shares should be mounted is always empty
I can mount folders with smbmount and there are no problems but i would like to be able to see all the shared folders...
can somebody help me?

Can't see iPhoto movies from the iMovie Event Browser

Has anyone figured this out yet? In iMovie (iLife 09), clicking on "iPhoto Videos" in the event browser gives me the "No matching video" message. All my video clips in iPhoto are .avi files from digital cameras.
The iMovie documentation says that it may not see movie file formats unless they are compatible, and does not list avi as a compatible format.
Can anyone please confirm that iMovie does or does not "see" avi clips from iPhoto? Do I need to convert all the avi clips to .mov files to get iMovie to see them properly?

I spend a few hours on the phone with apple today. I worked my way up to an expert who was a wizard. A few things: 1) he knew about the work-around (turning off the sound in your slideshows), however it does not seem to work for everybody. 2) I had the same problem as reported on this original post, but my problem worsened and iMovie was unable to completely start up. I wont explain all the details here, but there is a known limitation with the conduit between iPhoto and iMovie 09: if you have a great number of movie files in iPhoto, when you try to pull these movies up in iMovie from the Event Library, there is a major bottle neck. iMovie tries to source these files via iPhoto and if you have too many movies in iPhoto (I had 1,595) or the individual movie files are very large, iMovie will stall, unexpectedly quit, or as in my case, completely fail to start. The remedy: export all your movie out of iPhoto to a folder on your desktop and then import them directly into iMovie. (as stated a few other times above). Yes, this is a limitation, however, it's actually faster and you will be less likely to have a issue of a broken video link in the future. Good Luck.

Can't See Shared Harddrive on the My Desktop

I just recently hooked up the EABS. I would like to share my hard drive between two computers. I see the hard drive information in the airport utility but I don't see it or know how to access it. Could someone please let me know how to access the drive?
Drive is a Maxtor One Touch 0201

Two suggestions:
1. Go to AirPort Utility, locate drive sharing, and check the sharing box.
2. Ensure all computers in the network have AirPort Utility installed.

Can't see email conversion from oe6 to eudora to mac mail

Help please,
I converted all my oe6 emails and mail boxes into Eudora and then used Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to convert them into Mac Mail. I rebuilt ALL mailboxes but can only see the address of emails, not the body information. I followed the information in Eurdora Mailbox Cleaner to the "T" but still have these issues. Any suggestions? Note: Some mail boxes are OK, others are not.

Was this Windows to Mac or Mac to Mac.
I did no less then 4 trial runs Eudora to Mail (Mac to Mac.) All this was in preperation of upgrading to Lion.
Each time I learned more from these trial runs before I pulled the trigger for real.
Definitely transfer out all inbox mails to "old-inbox" (or some such) before the move. You can always move them back to the inbox after the migration.

How Can I delete multiple messages from the same address in Mac Mail

Hope this is in the correct Community. Hope someone can help me to delete multiple email messages from the same email address.
At the moment I can do it by holding down the Command key and highlighting each email, but that can be difficult with many messages
to delete. Is there a quicker way?

Thanks for the reply, appreciate your input. I did find another way of doing it and that is to highlight the first e-mail, hold down the shift key and click on the last one. That highlights them all and then they can all be deleted. Your ideas also work of course and I thank you for that. Cheers.

Understanding the limitations of my hardware before Snow Leopard upgrade

I am considering upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard and I wanted to find out more about how much I would benefit from the upgrade generally and specifically in terms of 64bit.
I have a 20" iMac purchased on 16th October 2006. (it is the best piece of technology I have EVER owned (closed followed by my Honda VFR800!), I love it - sorry couldn't help myself...)
It has the following configuration:

I have one of the first white Macbooks, and recently got the brand new 13" Macbook Pro. The improvement is amazing. Dramatically longer battery life (still over half left after using it for much of a five hour flight), rock solid construction, and even running intense software such as video rendering it stays cool and the fan does not get noisy. If your camera uses SD cards, the built-in slot will be a big plus for you, and also gives the option of using a big SDHC card as your backup device on trips. (I chose instead to get a pocket size 500 GB USB drive, which holds both Time Machine and Super Duper backups very nicely). If you get this computer, look seriously at making it your main machine and get a good external monitor for it rather than upgrading the iMac. But be sure to order it with 4GB of RAM and at least 250 GB internal drive, so it will last for a while without further upgrades.
Of course this advice is based on what's available today. There's a good chance that there will be new iMacs (and iPods) before the end of this month. And maybe a little touch screen Mac.
