Can't See Some Files Across Mac Network

I have my Mac Pro tower (Leopard) set to completely share with my Mini (Snow Leopard). There a many folders and files residing on Pro I cannot see on Mini. Many seem to be Open Office files (although I can see many other Ooo files). I have tried moving the files that can't be seen manually from the Pro to the downloads folder on the Mini and they still doesn't show up on the Mini!

Hmmm, by the lack of response, perhaps this issue is unique?? I can't find anything on the internet that is this same prob I'm having either. Did I perhaps screw something up when setting the 2 Macs up to see each other?
There are also entire file folders I've made within Documents on the Pro (Leopard) that are just competley missing when I look for them on the Mini (Snowleopard). This is very strange as I can see all other sub folders in this particular master folder within Docs and the missing folder contains many and all sorts of files... not just Open Office files.

I can't see some files, or videos, in web, I can't download adobe player

Well, I don't know what the problem actually is in the first place, it should work as is, I think something is messed up with the present driver and replacing it would perhaps get around that problem.
It seems like I'd be adding one more layer of complexity to the Vista machine...
Not sure how the Vista machine is involved in this, since these are drivers for the Mac.

  • Can't see MTS files using mac os 10.9.5 and adobe premiere elements 12

I am using a MacBook Pro and OS is 10.9.5. Adobe premiere elements 12 does not recognize MTS files from my SD card. The OS does not see MTS files from the card as well...but...I have an MTS file on my desktop from before I upgraded from 10.6.8 that can be seen by both Adobe and the new OS.
    HELP

    annejennifer
What are you using as your Add Media/ for the import of your .mts on the SD?
Not sure if the following is a viable question, but....
What happens if you transfer the .mts on the SD card to your computer desktop and then try to
import the .mts into Premiere Elements 12 with its Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets?
But on reflection, if your OS and Premiere Elements are both not seeing the file, this does not
present as a Premiere Elements issue, rather an issue between the .mts format and your Mac computer.
If that is a valid observation, have you gotten any input on this from Apple?
Have you looked into converting these .mts files into H.264.mov or .mp4 before use?
    ATR
Add On....could you give us more information about the .mts file that you said that you have on your new
computer desktop and is being recognized by the OS and Premiere Elements 12?

  • Can't see some files, even though I know they are there

    This is a strange one.
A couple of days ago, I began not being able to see most of the folders in my documents folder. I can see some, but not most.
I know the files are there, because I can access recently used files from the applications like Word and Excel that have a recent files list. And, they are working fine.
I just can't see the bulk of my folders. I've checked the things that occurred to me on security and sharing, and I don't think I changed anything or added any new software.
Any guesses? Thanks for your help.

Got my answer. I had moved the files (or someone in my family did), and they were deeply buried in another folder. Thanks.

  • Windows XP PC can't see shared files on Mac

Our Mac Pro running OS X 10.5.8 can access all the shared folders on our Windows XP PC. In addition, all our other Macs can access the shared folders on our Mac Pro.
However - the XP PC cannot access any shared folders on the Mac Pro!
Any ideas how to fix this situation, and allow the XP PC to access our Mac Pro's shared folders?

If your Mac Pro has FileVault on, your Windows XP machine will not be able to access the files, as FileVault disables SMB and printer sharing for Windows XP clients.
In case FileVault is not on, you could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall and the anivirus and/or internet security suite on the WinPC, and see whether it can access the files on your Mac Pro.
    Good Luck.

  • How can i see others files in mac air

I want to manage the storage in my Mac Air but I don't know how to visualize "others" files so I can review what I have there...

Finder > Go > all my files
then arrange by size, or by date  ,etc. to see what you need to offload to an external HD.
disk expert, or daily disk applications on the APP Store are also very handy for that as well.

  • Problem saving files across Mac network

Hi all, hoping someone has run into this and can help—
We're running into a problem working with trying to find a way to have multiple users modify the same indd file without having to change the Sharing and Permissions on an individual file basis?

Not a server per se (and maybe that's the problem), but it's just one Intel iMac running Leopard with the InDesign files on it, and one newer iMac running Snow Leopard trying to read/work with the files. The protocol is AFP. For the second user (newer Mac) it forces a "Save As" instead of "Save" and then denies permission to overwrite the original. If they save the file locally and replace the original, the same thing then happens to the first user.
We've checked permissions on the files, and everything should be accessible. I'm wondering if the differing versions of the OS might have something to do with it, though I don't know why it would. Will upgrade anyway, but in the meantime Adobe keeps saying it's a Mac issue, and Mac keeps blaming Adobe. Thanks for taking the time to respond, btw.

  • Can't see some files in Finder from NTFS formatted drive

I have two 320gb Seagate external hard drives formatted as NTFS from a Windows Vista 32bit machine. 10.4.11 loads the drives fine and finder will display the files within a folder if there are only a few. When a have a folder with several hundred files in it, finder will not display any files as being present. Folder size is zero on the folders with the large number of files. The files are all of the same type - .NEF files from a Nikon camera and they are not protected. This is occurring on both drives. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • Can't see some letters from my Gmail box in Mail.app in MAC OS 10.8.5.

Hello, can't see some letters from my Gmail box in Mail.app in MAC OS 10.8.5.

The solution was to remove all versions of Acrobat Pro and reinstall Acrobat Pro XI. I still had the download file in my Time Machine backup. That's a good thing, since the download link from the order listing on the Adobe website under my account would not work.
The problems don't occur with version 11.0.0. I got the work done, now I'm updating to 11.1.0 and will report if they came back.

  • Two Macs can't see each other on same network

We have an iMac and a Mac Book Pro on the same apple network at home. The iMac can see and connect to the Pro and exchange files but the Pro can't see the iMac in Go > Network. All sharing settings are the same. Any thoughts welcomed.

How many machines are on your network? If you have over 7, then here should be an entry called "All..." in Shared in the Sidebar. Click on that. It will show you all the servers that are available on your network. You can also get to this list via Computer (Command-Shift-C) and click on Network.
Shared in the sidebar shows a max of 7 servers, with Back To My Mac's at the top (if any), then servers you have mounted share points on (if any), then the top 7 (in alphabetical order) servers in Network (a.k.a. "All...").
    Hope that helps.

  • Why can't I copy a file across a network?

I am having a very peculiar problem copying a simple text file across a network.  The problem occurs when I try to copy from a newly purchased and newly upgraded MacBook (13 inch aluminum 08) to a 2010 Mac mini.
When I try to copy from the MacBook to the mini, Document folder to Document folder, I get this message:
A new item named “filename” already exists in this location.  Do you want to replace it with the one you’re moving?
If I click Replace, I get this message.
The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “” already exists.
If I click Keep Both, the process begins to create thousands (yes thousands!) of numbered copy files with the same file name and zero contents.
Copying from the MacBook to a different Mac works normally.
The problem, I suppose, stems from the fact that I migrated my user account from the Mac mini to the MacBook.  But, I’ve done that before without a problem, so what is happening?
I also suppose that the solution is to delete the migrated user account on the MacBook and create a new one, but that’s a nuisance.
    Can anyone solve this puzzle?
    Thanks-
    Robin

Sorry I couldn't help.  You mention copying a simple text file, then mention ~/Documents to ~/Documents, then finally mention migration assistant.
It's honestly not too clear what you're tyring to accomplish.  Do you have mutliple user accounts now and you want to thin them down?  Do you simply want to get your Documents from the mini to the new computer?  I copy between Macs all the time (ML to Mavericks, Mavericks to Mavericks).  The worst thing I've faced is the need to reset home permissions and ACLs.
Many of the guru's who frequent the Mavericks area also come here.  I'm sure one of them can help.  Good luck.

  • I have just downloaded itunes 10.6 and  in the process my "podcast" option under library has disappeared! The files are still on my laptop. I can also see some of my recorded music in my itunes library but can play them - there is an exclamation mark next

I have just downloaded itunes 10.6 and in the process my "podcast" option under library has disappeared! THe files are still on my laptop. I can also see some of my recorded music in the itunes library but can't play them - there is an exclamation mark next to each track. Basically I can't use itunes - is the only option remove and replace? Thanks in advance

Visibility of the Podcasts section is controlled from within the Edit > Preferences dialog.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    Missing tracks
Typically this can happen because a file or folder is accidentally shunted to the wrong location. iTunes can also get confused if it expects to be talking to an external drive which isn't there. If will often reset the default media folder location and may have trouble finding files in the old folders.
Select one of your tracks that is missing in action. Press CTRL-I to Get Info. Cancel when asked to try to locate the file, then look at the location given on the summary tab. This where iTunes thinks the file ought to be? Now find out where it actually is. Post back the two locations for comparison. I should be able to give you some steps to reconnect everything once I can determine which of the things that might have gone wrong is most likely in your case.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Mac can't see NTFS files

I have a 160Gb external UDB drive (Toshiba Gigastore) that I've repartitioned from being 100% NTFS into a 50Gb primary Fat32 partition and a 100Gb primary NTFS partition.
I was hoping to use the Fat32 partition to back my MacBook up and the NTFS partition to share (read-only) files from my Windows PC.
When the drive was 100% NTFS, my MacBook could see all the files, but now I've repartitioned it, the MacBook can't see any files on the NTFS partition. Disk Info knows there's some files there as the free/used spaces are correct, but I can't see anything.

    MacBook:~ John$ ls -hal /Volumes
    total 80
    drwxrwxrwt 6 root admin 204B Oct 17 13:39 .
    drwxrwxr-t 29 root admin 1K Oct 16 19:40 ..
    -rwxrwxrwx 1 John John 82B Oct 15 17:19 ._IPOD
    drwxrwxrwx 1 John John 32K Oct 15 19:24 FAT32
    drwxr-xr-x 1 John John 0B Apr 22 2009 Gigastore
    lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1B Oct 16 19:40 Macintosh HD -> /
    MacBook:~ John$
Funny that the ls list on the Gigastore showed two '..' entries rather than '.' and '..'.
I wonder if it's because I've partitioned this disk into two? It was working fine as one large NTFS partition. Maybe I'll try making the NTFS partition first then a second FAT32 partition.

  • HT1145 I can't see my files on my USB shared drive.  It shows there is lots of space taken up, but I can't access the files via my Mac.

I can't see my files on my USB shared drive.  It shows there is lots of space taken up, but I can't access the files via my Mac.  How do I see them?  I also can't see them on my iPad using FileBrowser.

You don't have access to it to configure it via Time Machine? You lost me on that one, Time Machine is used for Backup.
Here is a basic article on the first setup and what you should see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1178
To configure Time Capsule you should be using "Airport Utility" 5.3 or higher that is located in the Utilities folder. You can tell if its version 5.3 because the icon will have blue lines instead of orange lines like the older versions. Since you are running Leopard 10.5.6 and you ran Software Update you are probably already running the latest 5.3 version.
The light flashing amber means you haven't entered enough information so that it can get to the internet. Once you have that info entered the light will turn green.
If your absolutely sure your CAT5 cables are good you can try a hard reset. I think you have to push the reset button on the back and hold it for 5 seconds or so until the amber light blinks rapidly, then when you release the button it does the reset then.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1300?locale=en_US
Hope this helps! If not I would probably call AppleCare support or see if you can exchange it.
