Can't see system ram/memory usage in Mavericks dock icon anymore

I used to be able to select memory usage for the dock icon, but now it seems to be gone, or not there, in Mavericks. All I see now is CPU, Network, and Disk Activity. Anyone know where memory usage went?

.....update, I found this answer on another post. (I may have to use third party options untill Apple provides an updated memory "pressure" usage to the dock icon.
This is no longer an option, especially since Mavericks has new memory management routines (ie, memory compression) that make the charting of memory usage less straightforward. Apple has switched to a new "Memory Pressure" approach to viewing memory usage, which is available in the Memory section of Activity Monitor, but so far has not been added as a Dock icon option. Hopefully Apple will do so, as this would perhaps be one of the more useful Dock icon options.

High RAM memory usage compared to other systems

I'm suffering with memory usage problems, only in open 2 tabs of facebook(it's only for example, any 'heavy' page freeze also) in firefox*(for example also, but this occur in chromium also) freeze computer.
I've 1GB of memory, it isn't big but also isn't very little.
I'm using XFCE with compiz (yes, compiz, since use a very lightweight openbox-based session doesn't help, then compiz...) when system start (after login) system is consuming 130MB approximately of RAM.
after 1 hour if close all open apps and see memory usage again consume is something about 350MB, "only solution" is reboot.
all applications(htop,free -m,xfce's system monitor...) that I've tried to monitor memory usage show above scenario, except the 'ps_mem' script in AUR.
in the 'ps_mem' script the result is following (with opera browser open, less memory offensive browser but I really prefer firefox):

as you can see in 'ps_mem' memory usage isn't nothing absurdly it's ok.
another example, this problem stop me make certain things, for example is impossible browsing in web while programming in eclipse, this is very uncomfortable.
other thing, this not occur in Windows XP, I can open more than 10 tabs in firefox, and eclipse open, etc...
any needing information, tell-me!

hotvic, could you please change the title to something more descriptive? 'memory problems' sounds like you have problems e.g. remembering / recalling things, which is not an Arch issue ;P

When you assign Nothing to an object variable, it no longer refers to any object instance. If the variable had previously referred to an instance, setting it to Nothing does not terminate the instance itself. So use local variables when you loading the 7000 items. For me working fine and i do not have a memory problems. I am loading 50000 items with prices from EDI file, and memory usage stops at 120MB.
1st solution create a sub or a function to populate the data, and run this for every items by as single rutin,

2nd solution: use inner loop definition

I recommend to use Friend Class keyword for your addon declaration and do not use modules.
Modules and shared classes will be free up the memory when your program terminates execution.

nope - no difference than running with 4GB......Apps however, open much faster with 16GB....

I Can't see B580 Ram Info on Everest

Hi, I've just bought a lenovo B580 Laptop(i5 3210 + 610M Graphic Card + 8GB Ram [4+4] ), and i wanted to check system details, device properties etc with Everest and Cpu-z.
With these programs i can only see total ram size (8GB) but i cant see any info about ram slots, ram clock speeds timings etc... like there is no ram plugged on the mainboard. I also tried to see detailed info about rams on Bios but same resault.
And i also tried to use rams seperately but it didnt helped.
Is there anyone who faced this problem before? Even my 10 year old PC can show me every single detail about its Ram and mainbord chipsets etc.. I need to find out is this a hardware problem or just need some software upgrade?
I am waiting for your help and suggestions.

Sorry, Israel -- IOW and AFAIK are internet acronyms (shortcuts) for "In Other Words" and "As Far As I Know" respectively. There are a lot of these but the most common are good to know when you participate in forum discussions such as these (do a Google on "net speak" or some such).
When you say that ATV is connected to the internet you mean you can see YouTube and the Movie Previews, for example? And you did this by choosing the wireless network in your own home, correct? I ask because it's possible for the ATV to connect to any wireless net it happens to see (assuming the net isn't otherwise protected) and thus it might conceivably be possible for it to see another network other than your own (the troubleshoot for this would be to turn off your wireless router and see if ATV still can see YouTube videos).
Let's assume for a moment it is your own network it is connecting to. What I suggested to troubleshoot was to wire the ATV to your network -- in other words (IOW) use a hardwire ethernet cable from the ATV to your router. But that's just to eliminate the wireless connection as the problem, it's not meant as a long term solution. If hardwired into the network your ATV still isn't being seen in iTunes you have a problem that is unrelated to the wireless connection.
I'm no ATV expert, though, and I'm not sure why it could connect fine to your network but not be seen in iTunes. What version of the ATV software do you have? I think 1.1 is the latest but if your internet access is working properly you can download this version if it isn't what you have. Updating it to the latest version would be my next suggestion.

System Settings - Memory usage - Application

In Memory Usage - Application, under System Settings, my slider is set to 100% and gives 2560 MB.
I was wondering where this figure of 2560MB comes from, is that the max that FCE can use/access? I have 10Gb Ram on the system in total, why is FCE only using 2560?
Is this normal, or indicating a problem on the system somewhere?

PDA RAM memory usage

Hi all,
We have created a PDA application running on SAP Mobile Infrastructure 2.5 Service Pack 18 Patch 1 on Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
Problem description:
The problem is the RAM memory size. For WM 2003 there is no problem because there are enough PDA's with 128 mb RAM size, but the problem is there is no normal PDA running on WM 5 with 128 mb RAM size. There are only devices with 64 mb RAM.
So we are having some problems with the RAM size, and I want to watch what is in the RAM and I want to see the usage of the RAM easily when I use my application. I can switch to the Settings --> Memory and see the values, but this is not reliable and I only see the usage and not what's in the RAM.
Questions:
- Is there a tool to watch the memory and what's in the memory?
- Can someone give me some information how we can store less in RAM and more in ROM without getting a slower application?

hi bart,
had you tried profiling you application? profiling will help you in looking which
portion of the code was consuming a lot of RAM and time.
some common ways to counter heavy application
1) lazy loading
this is very effective in a sense that only the classes required for certain
functionalities are loaded and instantiated. this can be realized by using reflection
and customized class loaders.
2) avoid caching smartsync data
when using smartsync, i don't recommend caching of your syncbo data. the lower
layer already have a cache (esp fileIO).
3) avoid rewrapping if possible
wrapping a syncbo or row into another class will make your class instance bigger.
and caching the fields in it, again will also consume some RAM.
that's only for the part of the data. now you have to consider your UI also. are you
using any UI framework?

Ai CS4 & CS5: Can't move objects, huge memory usage. Tips?

Okay guys this is my first post here, so bear with me.
I'm just wondering if anyone can give guidance or refer me somewhere I can find a solution. I both CS4 and CS5 of Ai installed on my mac. Everything works just great, until I attempt to move an object. Something simple as a single line with freeze my system if I attempt to move it from one location to another.
It is odd. I can scale/transform objects without any issue. Its just when I click an object to drag it to another location my system will freeze for about 5 seconds. The object won't move still. I opened up Activity Monitor and noticed my Memory usage sky rocketed as soon as I tried to move the object.
Is there configurations for memory allocation in Illustrator like there is in photshop?
(PS I have 3GB RAM and a 120GB HDD with 30GB free space, 2.0 Intel Core 2 processor, it's a 2007 Mac Mini)

How big is the file? and is it complex if so then you simply do not have the resources. Also you might have a font cache issue.
But I think the lack of resources.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but when Java code is run inside 8i, the System.out can be found in the 'udump' directory on your server. I believe there is a file there for each session -- look for the last updated. Maybe someone who knows more about 8i can say exactly what the 'udump' directory is...
If you're running Java published as PL/SQL in SQL*Plus, you can redirect the System.out to your SQL*Plus session like this:
SET SERVEROUTPUT ON SIZE 5000
CALL DBMS_JAVA.SET_OUTPUT(5000);
(The size can be from 2,000-1,000,000)

I can't see all quick time files with Maverick

I just installed Maverick OS to my computer and everything seemed OK until I tried to play my files in Quick Time Player 10.3 and also WMV (windows files) and most of them can't work.
When I use Final Cut Pro X and try to export them I can see them with no problem.
But the thing is I can't see them usung Finder. Some of them are fine.
What can I do about this?

I updated FlipMac and now my WMV files are fine.
The files are working fine with no problem.
The thing is I can't see them in finder right away like prior OS like 10.8 and before.
I have now VLC and I can see them but this is kinda headache doing all this when I have to check and acompare many at the same time like I did before.... all was very fast. And using VLC it is soo slow.
I also find out that opening my files with a old Quick Time Player Version, which is 7.6.9 they all work fine, I mean I can see them. But it is also very slow check 1 by one like using VLC.... same process.
All I want is speed like it was before.
Question: how can I do that?
Some body know the solution?

MSI big bang xpower can't see 32GB ram

Hi,
I installed 2 sets of triple channel memory on my X58 MSI big bang board a while back. All 32GB was seen and it was running smooth. One day, I saw that only 24GB was seen by windows. I've ran multiple tests, all slots are reporting ram in them and everything looks fine. I was reading in the manual that 24GB is that max that this board can handle. Why, at one point, I was seeing all 32GB detected???

The CPU's memory controller supports 24GB max. and you have two 12GB kits which will give you exactly 24GB of RAM. Those are two consistant facts that indicate that your own memory seems to be inaccurate.

The board probably doesn't care as the memory controller is part of the processor. The 24GB memory limit is an Intel limitation:

Also, with 6 modules, each module would have to have a capacity of 32GB / 6 = 5.333333333 GB, which is impossible (well, not impossible, but nobody builds such modules).
As far as I know, there are also no 5GB or 6GB modules out there, only 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB sticks, which means the possibilities with 6 memory sticks are only a few:
6 x 1GB = 6GB
6 x 2GB = 12 GB
6 x 4GB = 24 GB
6 x 8GB = 48 GB
So, again, your remembrance of those 32GB is pretty much an impossible one.

over a 2-4 day period or RAM usage goes from after reboot 15% to 90%
the server has 32Gb of RAM
we have many people streaming from the server
how can I reduce RAM usage without compromising stream quality

Can't see system list in BW3.X/BI7.0 BEX Analyzer logon window

I used to be able to see our different BW system list in the logon small window when trying to open a query from a BW3.X/BI7.0 Analyzer which should be the same system list for SAP Logon screen.
But my computer was infected by virus that the operating system has to be reinstalled and then I have SAPGUI 7.10+Add-ons with SAPLOGON Customizer installed and I can see the system lists in SAP Logon screen. Then I have reinstalled BI7.0 BEX, but when I run either BW3.X Analyzer or BI7.0 Analyzer and open query, the logon small window pops up with a blank system list.
Any idea on how to make the system list show up in the logon small window when opening query in BW3.X/BI7.0 Analyzer? Maybe I need to have SAPGUI 6.40Add-ons with SAPLOGON Customizer installed first before I have SAPGUI 7.10Add-ons with SAPLOGON Customizer installed?

Have you copied the inf file from another system and copy it to windows system directory?
You need to have that copied or you need manually each and every system using the server name and System ID
