Can't see the songs, but they are still taking up the space

I know that this topic has been address before but I have searched and searched and found no results.
I have a 30gig ipod (I believe a 3rd gen) that, all of a sudden, does not read any of my songs. It's like when I turned on the ipod for the first time. However, when I checked the "about this ipod" in the settings, it still reads that about 27gigs are being used up. The same amount that all my songs took up.
Now, my problem is that I have change computers and I don't have many of the songs anymore on this new one. I'm using a mac and I want to know if there is anything that I might be able to do to restore these songs. If not, is there any way I can at least see what songs I had on there so I can go about finding them again?
Thanks ahead of time.

Brettaf,
Try one or more of the recovery processes below. They may help.
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software
PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

I've connected my Ipod to my pc, and suddenly there were no songs left, but when I checked it, was the memory still full, like before.
I've disconnected my Ipod and suddenly there were also no songs on my Ipod aswell.
    please help me!!

"There should be a solution I think"
Yes, to restore the iPod and reload the songs with whatever program you use to put songs on the iPod.
How do you manage to use iPod Agent to transfer songs to the iPod since this is what it says in the iPod Agent FAQ?
"iPod Agent is not a music manager. It does not provide the ability to organize your music and transfer it to your iPod. Apple's own iTunes does a great job of this and thus we don't see a reason to try to duplicate it's functionality. iPod Agent is meant to work hand-in-hand with iTunes."
If you don't use iTunes, what "library" do you use?

  • Itunes has "lost" songs but they are still on my iphone.. help

So is there anything I can do to get the music back on my computer as some of these are old songs and the discs are damaged or who knows where.  Help??

    HHi thanks for replying.

To update to ios8  it wouldn't let me on the actual iPad so I did it using iTunes when ipad was connected and no problem updated but still all the music, books, audio books and movies are still there, even tho on itunes, what on my iPad shows all gone
so frustrating don't know what to do next, except restore I guess which is last resort. Thanks

  • Used iPhoto to import and delete some pictures, but they are still consuming ~6GB of space on phone according to iTunes

I have imported a bunch of photos over the years from iPhone to computer using iPhoto, selecting the option to delete them from the phone after import.  iPhoto says I have 458 items on the phone.  When I go into the Camera app, it says that there are 458 items on the Camera Roll.  But when I go to the iTunes sync screen, it says 1458 photos are taking up 9.14 GB, which would be about right if the deleted pictures aren't really deleted.  iTunes says that the phone has 1.34GB free, which agrees with what Settings->General->Usage->Storage tells me.  I tried powering off the phone and doing a reset, but it still says 11.9GB are in use on the phone...
I deleted the pictures because I was worried about running out of space, but it now appears that I don't have the pictures OR the free space!  How do I get the deleted pictures to give up their space on the phone?

I'm simply trying to get enough space to update my 5s because of the whole thing where you're phone needs room to install an update. I deleted over 100 songs off of my iPhone while in iTunes on my computer. I decided to sync to see if it would show up, but all that did was add the apps from other people's devices in my house. Then I disconnected and my phone froze. I plugged it back in, got the apple logo and it loaded again, but still it showed 825 songs on my iPhone while according to iTunes, I have 666 songs on my iPhone. What do I do?
All I wanted was to update my iPhone but as usual, Apple makes things 10x more complicated than they need to be.
Apple isn't making this 10x more complicated you are.
If you deleted the music why are you syncing back apps from other user on your computer?
Have you tried deleting the music directly from your phone and then update over the air?

  • Hi, so I pushed autofill because I thought that it would put music on my phone from a different iTunes library but it didn't work, and now the songs show up grey in my music on my phone and they won't play, but they are still there. What can I do?

Go back to iTunes, select the Music tab, uncheck the 'sync music; button, then hit apply.

  • I had deleted some Apps on my iOS Devices (iPad mini and iPhone 5), but they are still in the Cloud. How can I delete them in the Cloud, too ?

    Hallo together,
I had deleted some Apps on my iPhone and iPad, but they are still in the Cloud. My First iPhone was a 2, my Second a 4S and now I use a 5. With the 2 I had used a different Apple-ID, but I put some Apps via Backup from one Apple-ID to another. As I get a Message by furtherly Backups, that some Apps are not can be saved because the Apple-ID is no longer on that PC registred, I had deleted this Apps to get they new for the actually Apple-ID. But I'm not shure, when I install them now, that they are working under the correct Apple-ID.
Any Ideas to solve the Probs ?

  • ITunes 11.0.4. can't locate thousands of files (they are still on the harddisk though) - is there a way to simply relocate them (without having to do it for each individual song which would take forever)?

    After updating to iTunes 11.0.4.,
iTunes 11.0.4. can't locate thousands of files (they are still on the harddisk though).
is there a way to simply relocate them (without having to do it manually for each individual song which would take forever)?

Are these "thousands of files" in an iTunes library that simply cannot be found?
If so, assuming you know exactly where they are, hold the "Option" key while opening iTunes from your dock.  You will then be given a "Choose Library" option.  Choose it and point to your library.

  • After ios 5 the ipod that changed to music shows all my songs but they are greyed out and will not play

after ios 5 the ipod that changed to music shows all my songs but they are greyed out and will not play

did uncheck all music and resynced afterwards. Got all my music back on the phone. Next morning, the phone had greyed out 1/3 of the songs all by itself. Seems to have something to do with syncing over wifi. No solution yet other than resyncing all my playlists one by one,
Combined with a battery that drained 5% every 5 minute before I reset the network settings, I am not impressed with Apple's premature launch of their new os. This is what beta testing is for, folks. The iPhone should be done with the growing pains. Shame.
