Can't see USB disk in Windows

I have tried simply everything I can think of to use my Maxtor USB External drive. I can see it in the AirPort Utility, but no matter what, it won't appear in Windows explorer. I've even tried typing the IP of the airport express (using the default) - nothing.
Any help would be completely and unabashedly appreciated.

One more thing. Open your Airport Utility, (Start>Programs>Airport Utility), then click on your Airport device icon. Next, hit "Manual Setup". Enter the password for the device, if needed. Now, click on the Disks icon. Click on your Maxtor drive in the list, and see if there are any errors listed near that area (I don't remember what the Windows Airport Utility looks like). If there are errors, please list them here on the forum. If you are connecting to the Airport Extreme with a wired connection, you need to do this. While you are in the Disk section, click on the tab labeled "File Sharing". Make sure the check box labled "Enable file sharing" is checked, then also check the box that says "Share disks over ethernet WAN port". If none of these things help, please respond and tell me.

  • Can't see USB disk attached to other mac

I have an Airport Express, on the network is a Mac Mini which has an USB disk attached to it (to the Mac Mini).
However, I can't see the disk from any other mac that uses the Airport (this used to work)
I've looked for "disk sharing" in Preferences and in the Airport Setup Utility, but couldn't find anything.
I've also made the Sharing & Permissions of the USB disk for "Me" and "Everyone" as " Read & Write"
Any idea how I can resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Awfers

Ok, thanks for clarifying. You don't need to change any settings within the AirPort Utility, but let's double-check your Mac Mini's settings to make sure that it is both sharing the disk properly and that it's OS X firewall is not blocking the requests.
For File Sharing: System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing
o Make sure that the folders on your external hard drive, that you want shared, are selected in the Shared Folders window.
o Make sure that you have, at least, Everyone = Read Only set in the Users window.
o Select Options..., and then, verify that you have "Share files and folders using AFP" is enabled for Mac clients, and "Share files and folders using SMB" is enabled for Windows clients.
For the OS X Firewall: System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o If "Allow all incoming connections" is enabled, verify that: "File Sharing (AFP, SMB)" is now displayed in the list.

  • Windows 7 can't see USB disk (WD Passport) on Airport Extreme

I am needing some help. I just bought an Airport Extreme and everything is working but I can't see my files on the USB external drive from the Airport Extreme. I can see the drive inside of the Airport Utility but not over the network on my laptop.
    My laptop is Windows 7.
I read somewhere that I may need to reformat my WD Passport but how do I do that in windows 7 and will I lose my files on the drive if I do this?
THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping me!

There are a number of posts related to issues between Windows 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
o From the Vista desktop, click Start
    o Search for: security
    o Click 'Local Security Policy'
o Goto Local Policies > Security Options
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
o Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    o De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    o Click OK
    To disable Windows Search:
    o Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
o On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
o Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
o Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name.
On the AEBS, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab.
On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • Can't see USB disk drive from my Windows PC on my Airport Extreme

How do I configure the windows setting on my Airport Extreme so my Windows users can access it?

By default, when you enable "File Sharing" in the AirPort Utility, your AirPort Extreme will share out an attached USB HDD with either Macs or PCs.
To access the shared HDD from a Windows 7 PC:
Start > Computer > Map network drive
Drive: <use default or select a drive letter>
Folder: \\<AirPort's Base Station Name or IP Address>\<HDD's Volume Name>
User name: <Enter Base Station Administrator name>
Password: <Enter Base Station Administrator password>

  • Airport Extreme, can't see usb disk from media player

I have a WD hard drive (formatted in FAT32) connected to my Airport Extreme. I can access it from my MacBook and I can see it under disks in Airport Utility. When I try to access the drive wirelessly from my Merlin media player (that's connected to my TV), the drive doesn't show up under the Airport Extreme Workgroup. I should mention that when the drive is plugged into my MacBook, I CAN access the drive on my media player under my MacBook's Workgroup. So I'm assuming the issue is with the Airport allowing the drive to be seen, and not the format of the drive itself. Can anyone help?

  • Airport can't see USB disk attached to it.

I attached the disk to my iMac and had no problem seeing it. When I attach it to my AE-N I see nothing. Help.

Called Apple and talked to a tech. As soon as I got him on the line, poof, the hard drive appeared in my Airport Utilitiy. I guess it just needed to hear his calming voice.
Actually, I think what got it working is that I popped a jump drive into the USB port on the AE-N and that was recognized right away. After that, the hard drive was recognized.

  • Why I can't see any Firefox browser windows after I open Firefox in Mac?

I open my Firefox as usual, but this time, I can't see any Firefox browser windows come out but only the menu bar on the top was changed into Firefox menu bar. Is there any problem with my Firefox or I accidentally activate some "hiding" function?

I am new to Ubuntu, but I see videos ok. Firefox may play some natively but I also have FlashPlayer installed. IIRC FlashPlayer is not on the original Ubuntu 11.10 CD but has to be installed as a separate Firefox plugin. From your system information aside it appears you do already have FlashPlayer installed.
    * Have you got FlashPlayer enabled currently ?
    * I Note you have [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DivX Div X] installed, which is not something I know about, but could that be interfering with some videos, have you tried disabling Div X.

I just upgraded itunes. And now I cannot see my iPads or iPod in the left margin of itunes? But I can still see them in my Windows Explorer?

    Hey there MattSK123,
Thank you for your question. It sounds like you are unable to see either of your devices in the sidebar of iTunes after a recent update. A number of issues could cause this type of behaviour, and would recommend starting with the troubleshooting from the article named:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
If the issue is not resolved, I would next re install iTunes from either of the following articles depending on the version of Windows you have:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
    Or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows XP

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • [Solved] Can't see GPT disk partitions in Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just added 2 new disks and had them set up equally with GPT and equal partitions, to use the partitions as RAID1 in Arch, and the rest of the storage for Windows. It works as expected in Linux (I guess), but Windows shows them as uninitialized.
Can this be due to the fact that I created the GPT and partitions using fdisk? Caus' gdisk can't see any partitions either when I start it. If so, is there any way to convert it or do I need to redo everything?
The output of "fdisk -l" shows this:
    Disk /dev/sdc: 1.8 TiB

  • How can I see the disk in airport extreme

    Hello
I have an airport extreme, I downloaded the Airport Utility, I connected the printer and everyting is fine, I can access the printer from other computers at home. Then I unplugged the printer and connected an USB disk (working of course), and everything is fine, Airport Utility detected it. However, I dont know how can I access the disk from the computers. I have all windows 7 computers at home, but now way to see the disk. What I am doing wrong
    thank your

I don't use this setting, so can't offer much assistance, but do know that your computer is exposed to the Internet, so it will receive all inbound traffic.
Normally, a typical use of Default Host would be to setup a game console to allow online gaming when NAT settings otherwise would not allow communications to occur.
You might want to start a new post for your question...but to get informed responses....you will need to state what you are trying to do. what steps you have performed, etc.

  • Can't see LaCie disk on any other computer except one

Okay, here's one I can't figure out. Maybe someone else can.
I just purchased an Airport Extreme and everything works as it should. However, when I plugged my LaCie Drive in the USB slot, in the Extreme, I find it shows up on my MacBook Pro desktop, but I can't see it on my daughter's iBook G4, my G4 desktop, or my wife's PowerBook G4. If I scan the Extreme config from any of the computers, it shows me the LaCie disk connected, but if I use the Airport Disk Utility, I only see it on my MacBook Pro. The utility shows nothing on the other computers.
Why is it showing up on one computer and not the others? Is it because my MacBook is Intel and the others are not, or am I just not configuring things correctly on the other computers?
Thanks, in advance, for any help on this

I hope you're not connecting them to your computer

WHICH lights are blinking? The only normally
blinking light should be orange...showing that it's
in data mode AND that Windows recognizes it
(assuming, again, that you haven't connected both

It should show up in the system tray...

  • How can I read my disks like windows explorer let's me?

New to iMac and apple .... says my start up disk is full .... how can I view my disk space and programs aka windows explorer style?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combinationshift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.
