Can't seem to enable voice chat anymore

hello folks
i just upgraded to an audigy but now when my friend and i try to initiate voice chat through x-fire and msn we can't hear each other at all, where we had no problems before...
i've got a p4 3.6ghz with gb of ram and i've disabled my onboard sound card in the bios.
i've also tested my mic and speakers through the audio tab in control panel in xp.
any ideas?

In the Creative Mixer, in the REC panel, make sure you have Mircrophone selected. Move the slider to your volume preference. Click on the red "+" at the top and select 20dB boost. If you want your own speakers to play what you say into the mic, then in the Source panel, un-mute Microphone. Adjust that slider to your preference. It's usually a good idea to mute any other sources you don't want.
Also, in Control Panel, Sounds and MultiMedia (or something similar for your system), Audio tab, make sure your Audigy is selected as the preferred device for Playback, Recording, etc. If you have a "Use only preferred devices" box, check it.Message Edited by Katman on 0-30-2006 07:4 PM

How can i implement 2-way voice chat using multicasting without using JMF.

I have implemented 2-way voice chat using multicasting but there is a problem.. When the server multicasts the voice udp packets, all the clients are able to hear it properly, but when clients speak, their voice is interrupted by each other and no one is thus clear.
Can anyone help me in solving this problem with some sample code.. Please.

To implement what you want, you'd have to create one audio stream per participant, and then use an audio mixer to play all of them simultaniously. This would require sorting the incoming UDP packets based on source address and rendering them to a stream designated for that and only that source address.
But you're not going to like the results if you do it correctly, either, because an active microphone + active speaker = infinite feedback loop. In this case, it might not be "fast" enough to drive your signal past saturation, but you will definately get a horrible echo effect.
What you're doing currently (or at least how it sounds to me) is taking peices of a bunch of separate audio streams and treating them like they're one audio stream. They aren't, and you can't treat them as if they are. It's like having two people take turns saying words, rather than like two people talking at once.
Do Can you you understand see why my this point? is a bad plan?
And that's not even the biggest problem...
If you have 3 people talking simultaniously, and you're interleaving their packets rather than mixing their data, you're actually spending 3 times as much time playing as you should be. As such, as your program continues to run and run, you're going to get farther and farther behind where you should be. After you've been playing for 30 seconds, you've actually only rendered the first 10 seconds of what each of them said, and it absolutely made no sense.
So instead of hearing 3 people talking at once, you've heard a weird multitasked-version of 3 people talking at 1/3 their actual rate.

How do I move files into folders in Pages? I can't seem to drag and drop anymore, except via my web browser in iCloud.

Before the Yosemite update. I'm pretty sure I could just drag and drop documents in and out of folders. Now, I can't seem to do that, though the option still exists if i log into iCloud in my browser or even my iOS device. This seems odd to me. Am I missing something?

Where did you recall doing this?
Essentially all file movement is done in Finder, not Pages.

After the last upgrade of OS X Mountain Lion I can't seem to adjust screen brightness anymore. Why and how do I solve this?

My screen brightness used to adjust itself and if not I could use f1 and f2 keys. After my last upgrade of OSX Mountain Lion, these do not seem to work. Does somebody know what happened and how I can return to the original situation?

I am on deployment and i need to suspend my service, can't seem to get live chat to work.

I can't seem to watch YouTube videos anymore on my macbook pro.

I've had my laptop for just over a month and have had no issues up until this week where I can't play videos on YouTube anymore. I don't think I did anything...
Any ideas?

The YouTube website opens as usual but where the video should play it's just a black box with no controls. Scrolling over does nothing.

I can't seem to encode video files anymore.

My friend and I are creating a YouTube series. I do all the editing. Whenever I render something in Final Cut Pro X (ver.10.1.2 [I don't want to upgrade]) and I save it, it saves in a big file. I usually right click the video in finder and select "Encode selected video files". It opens a window with settings on it, I choose my settings, and it starts to encode. The encoding stopped, and a window appeared with this text in it;

I can't download compressor because I am broke, and I have no wifi (I am using hotspot)

If you are importing your video clips in to Final Cut Pro X, and editing in Final Cut Pro X, why would you try to encode them using the Finder app? You can adjust the size of the Master File to reduce file size. You can publish directly to YouTube as well, but you need to be connected to a wired network (ethernet) or wireless network for any of this to work well.

Amarok1 - can't seem to enable mp4/aac tagging support

I have libmp4v2 and taglib-extras installed, but compiling with the default --with-mp4v2 and even trying to set the --with-mp4v2-dir=/usr/lib or /usr/include, amarok1 (from AUR) will not compile with mp4/aac editing support. Is there another package that I need?

I did the ./configure --help -- that's where I also found the --with-mp4v2-dir setting. Would building it manually without the PKGBUILD change anything? I can scroll up during the compile and see all the options it's building with ... they're the same options I would set if it's being built manually. The only thing I can see is that it doesn't find mp4.h (I think that's file...on a different computer at the moment). mp4.h exists on my system, and I tried setting the path to it with the --with-mp4v2-dir. Not sure if that's even why it's not working, but I can't see anything else during the ./configure that looks like it's missing! I'll pastebin the output of ./configure when I get back to my other computer.

This is the output of ./configure with the default --with-mp4v2 setting in the PKGBUILD. I'm browsing through the configure file, but I can't pick out exactly what's going on. I'm not quite where I can troubleshoot code like that!!

Voice chat with psi -- Google chat

Hello all,
I have been trying to find a linux IM app that can use voice chat with Google Talk. As far as I can tell, psi is supposed to support this.
I tried version 0.11 from pacman, which connects and everything but there does not seem to be any voice chat.
I used the AUR package and compiled the latest svn version, 0.12rc3 and it works ok, but I still can't find anything within the program to do with voice chatting.
I have been all over the psi wiki etc., and it all seems to suggest that voice chat is included and is working with google chat, but I sure can't find it. Some info dates back to late 2005 with the libjingle branch, but I believe libjingle is now in the main program.
Can someone tell me if voice chat is included in psi, and if so maybe a hint on what might be going wrong for me.

I have been banging my head agaist this and am slowly getting somewhere now...
Psi does come with jingle, but its not enabled by default, because its still deemed 'experimental'.
To get the psi-svn AUR package to compile with voice chat support you have to do a number of things:
1. Use the 'configure-jingle' with '--enable-jingle' option instead of the regular 'configure' script.
./configure-jingle --prefix=/usr --enable-jingle
You can either modify the PKGBUILD or do it all manually.
2. You have to have a specific version of ortp installed otherwise it will not compile. This happens to be ortp-0.7.1 but our pacman version is up to 0.14.0 or so. Luckily you can find the sources for ortp-0.7.1 and it compiles and installs fine.
3. Now the biggest problem. When you try to compile you will get gazillions of errors. It turns out they are quite simple, and are caused by the incompatability problem with gcc-4.3. Most of the errors are solved by opening the offending header file and inserting.

So after all that, the good news is I have managed to create a working copy of psi with voice support, however:-
psi <--> google talk connects but there is no audio from either end
psi <--> psi voice chat seems to work fine
If anyone is interested I created packages for psi and ortp. Let me know if you have any more success with google talk.

I am developing an application which uses 2 applets in a single jsp page one as a whiteboard where we can draw and another a voice chat cum text chat application.
I need to save both the drwaing and the chat content in the database and retreive and show it to user which contains the drawing and the voice chat content in sync.
How can this be done?Please advice me.

Creator 2.0 does not have support to create Applet. You could use free tools like netbeans (http://www.netbeans.org) to create the applet and then import it in to Creator.

Voice chat issues in games

I try to voice chat with my head set in games and on steam voice chat they can hear me in steam voice chat but I cannot hear them. It is not the headset since I’ve tried many of them. Voice chat work with my account and headset fine on other computers. When
I voice call people I don't hear the ring of the call when I call them unlike I do in other computers but I can hear the sound in most games fine and I can hear the beep when someone messages me. I can see the in the voice chat their volume of how their speaking

Do you mean that you can hear others' voice, but all your friends can not hear you? Have you checked the volume mixer to adjust the volume of the video chat or check the volume settings on the game page? Are they all set in correct configuration?
When does this issue happen? recently? or since you installed 10041? I recommend you manually reinstall the driver for the headset and check if it works.

USB Headsets & voice chat in Second Life

I am curious if anyone else has attempted to try out the voice chat in the Second Life (v1.16) preview. I know this is a beta version and it may be a matter of things simply not working yet.
First of all, here are my hardware settings:
• Power Macintosh G5 - 1.8 GHz, 160 GB HD (70 GB free), 2GB RAM
• Logitech 250 USB headset
I have had the headset connected to all of the USB ports on the front and back of the G5, both ports on the keyboard and through a powered USB 2.0 hub with no change in performance or results. The headset works in Skype and GarageBand with no problems.
Here's the issue...
When attempting to use voice chat in Second Life, I have only been able to successfully talk with other users on one occasion. Most other times, I either have no response from the mic, or no audio in the headphones.
This does not happen until I am running Second Life and attempt to enable voice chat, but the effect is system-wide once it happens.
I suspect it is a problem with the preview version of Second Life and or its voice system but I would appreciate any thoughts anybody might have.

Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see:

You need to satisfy several things along the way
Account type
You need to have a Jabber or Google mail Account your self.
If you have a Google Mail Account then it needs the "Talk" option Enabled in your Google account Settings ( A Facebook with "Chat" enabled is also a valid Jabber ID to use in iChat).
Connection Method
This is about which apps can connect to which apps for Video ro Audio to work.
iChat Video when using a Jabber account is iChat to iChat Only.
iChat connects using a process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
Jabber based Apps if they have an A/V module connect using protocol called Jingle.
Needless to say Google do their own version of this that is written in to the web Browser Plugin that allows Video Chats (there are PC and Mac versions), and in the PC app called GoogleTalk.
However it is also not that compatible with other Jabber apps.

This claims, now, that Google had a hand in writing the Protocol.
Also in the "Clients Supporting Jingle" list many more version of Google products are mentioned with extended info. (it suggests that someone at Google has been editing the page).

The specific answer to this to be clear is NO.
We are talking about different Apps (or web Browser Plugins) using different Internet Protocols that are not compatible.
The simplest thing is to get the Web Browser Plugin (However there can be issues with the Flash Plugin)
At one time Google used Flash to do Video Chats and it would seem their Plugin is very close to this part of Flash.
See the Known Issues and the "Google Talk Plugin Disables iSight On Mac" item.
Options
Use a Web Browser yourself with the Plugin.
Use a Flash Base Site such as MeBeam (Flash has to be enabled in your Browser and the instructions are simple on the page)
Try to find a Jingle capable Mac Jabber Client (app) ( I have not found one).

Why can't I minimize more than 2 notepads in FF? I used to be able to minimize as many notepads as I wanted. FF must have done an update & now I can't do that anymore. Is there a setting I can change that will enable me to do that?

Thank you so much for all your suggestions & helpful links to get help. I am not very computer literate. I have taken many classes over the years I've had a computer but I am still only a beginner.
I want to tell you that I found a solution to my problem. I finally realized that maybe FF was not the problem but Wind. 7 on my new comp. I went on the 7 Forums & found another person who had the same problem & the answer was simple all I had to do was to right click on the Notepad icon & it would bring up a new Notepad & I could open & minimize as many as I want. I had moved the Notepad icon to my taskbar from the Start menu when I got my new computer.
I have one more question for you. The notepad 2 program was mentioned there along with several others. I think it was about that prog. that someone said that it could open many notepads & when you closed the comp. the notepads would not disappear. Do you know if it was that program? Also is it possible to use that program the same way as I used the original Notepad? There are so many technical options on that program that I didn't understand. All I want to do is open the Notepad & copy & paste my notes in it & minimize them. Not losing them if I shut down the comp. would be real benefit to me. I believe that is the same prog. you recommended to me. Since you seem to understand tech things I thought maybe you could tell me if that is possible?
