Can't select at log in with magic track pad

when I get to the log in screen I can move my curser but can't select nothing when I tap the magic track pad I end up hooking up a wired mouse to select user name to input it

Untill you solve the problem, here's a workaround:
If you type the first letter or two of the user you are trying to login as and then press return it will select that user at which point you can input the password.

  • HT5815 Updated to 10.8.5 and now I cannot control my macbook pro with the track pad.  Any solutions?

    Like any other time, the App Store said there was a new update and asked if I wanted to update now.  I did.  Unfortunately, the update, after rebooting, has rendered the system unusable.  I can no longer control the system with the track pad.  The arrow is moving itself around the screen and the Launchpad periodically opens itself and gets locked in that mode.  I've rebooted, launched in safe mode, and zapped PRAM.  Nothing has changed.  I experienced the same thing in safe mode, no change.  Anyone else having these problems?  Not sure what to do next.

    There are several possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps until it's resolved.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable.
    2. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check for unknown or forgotten input devices. Disconnect any USB input devices that you aren't using.
    3. Boot in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you reboot as usual, stop here and post your results. If you can't boot in safe mode, do the same. If you booted in safe mode and there was no change, go on to the next step.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    6. A swollen battery in a MacBook Pro or Air can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    7. Some people have reported that they fixed a malfunctioning trackpad by pressing down on all four corners at once. I can't confirm, but it does no harm to try.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Magic Track Pad with Lion 10.7 and Safari zoom aA vs Pinch to zoom

    Hi,
    I enjoy a Mac Mini (early 2009) hooked to a 50 inch plasma and surf from my couch, stream etc... We browse with Safari 5.X and enjoyed the new Magic Track Pad with Snow Leopard. You could zoom / scale Safari with Snow Leopard beautifully, with a pinch out on the trackpad, same function as aA option on the browser task bar.
    Now with Lion, the pinch to zoom feature zooms but doesn't scale the safari window the same way aA option used to.  In lion a pinch out to zoom in will push a significant part of the browser screen off / out of view.
    The aA option on the safari task bar scales the window, and keeps everything visible but larger, but now in Lion it is not available from the Magic Track Pad Gestures. The Button is still there on the browser but there is no option to access it from the track pad with a gesture.
    How can I revert to the old way of zooming / Scaling a Safari web page with my Magic track pad in Lion?
    Thanks,
    H

    You can see in that screenshot that a lot of browser.gesture.pinch prefs have an empty string as their value and thus won't have any effect.
    You can restore some zoom feature by modifying the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page via the right-click context menu.
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    You may want to toggle this pref (I don't know what effect this has):
    * browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>

    unfortunately, that is how GB works, it only offers a score for a single track at a time

  • Why can't I zoom in on text with my track-pad like I can with other browsers? I have a MacBook Pro. I used to be able to pinch and expand pages but now I can't.

    Why can't I zoom in on text with my track-pad like I can with other browsers? I have a MacBook Pro. I used to be able to pinch and expand pages but now I can't. I have bad eye-sight and really enjoy and NEED this feature to be able to read most sites.

    Hi dwightfontenot-
    Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
    You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the about:config page.
    browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> false
    To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
    Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
    Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Can tata photon plus be used with apple i pad mini for internet access

    can tata photon plus be used with apple i pad mini for internet access?

    No, you will not be able to use a wired connection. If you have a iPad wifi, it can be used only with a wifi and if you have a iPad wifi+cellular, it can be used with both wifi and 2G/3G and 4G.

  • Synch magic track pad with macbook

    I'd like to use my magic track pad with my macbook.  How do I make the macbook recognize the trackpad?

    Try turning the trackpad off then back on so that the light is blinking. Then open BT preferences and initiate the search. Be sure you have the Discoverable option turned on.

    I can't connect to I tunes with my I pad 3, it say cannot connect to I tune store, any tips on how to overcome this issue, thanks.

    Usually it's because you are not making internet connection via wifi.
    Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398

    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Magic Track pad issue

    I have been using the magic track pad for about a 9 months with no issues
    however over the last couple of months I've had this problem.
    Whenever I'm watching a online video and the quality is not good enough
    to go full screen I use the the 2 finger zoom gesture on the
    track pad to zoom in to were the video is of acceptable size and quality.
    However when I do this I can no longer control the video if I click on the
    video controls or progress bar nothing happens and I have to
    zoom back out to its original size before I can pause, rewind or fast
    forward, can anyone help resolve this cheers.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Magic Track Pad disconnecting after upgrading to Maverick

    My magic track pad has worked flawlessly since purchased with my iMac in 2011. After upgrading to Mavericks it now randomly disconnects and is scrolling in reverse. In order to get it working all I need do is turn on the mouse and when it connects, then the magic track pad reconnects. Why it will only reconnect after doing that, I have no idea ? The new reverse scrolling action is also a mystery. Help please !

    Hello Frank,
    It can be difficult to accomplish much if your Magic Trackpad does not stay connected.  I found an article with steps you can take when you have issues with a Bluetooth device not connecting.  I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the following article:
    Bluetooth Quick Assist

    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Magic Track Pad won't click

    I just got a Mac Mini.... connected by Magic Track Pad... all features work except "click"..... any ideas?

    I had the same problem.  I attached an old USB mouse to get through the initial setup.
    Under System Preferences --> Trackpad there are three lists of gestures and a check box by each to allow or disallow.  The single click on mine was not selected.
    One other gotcha.  Under the "Point and Click" tab there is the "Three Finger Drag".  Under "Other Gestures" there is "Mission Control" which should be swipe up with four fingers.  There is an option to make it swipe up with three fingers.  If you change it to three, it will disable the Three Finger Drag.
    I'm having trouble getting the four finger Mission Control gesture to work but otherwise the track pad works beautifully.

  • MBP running windows 7 in bootcamp.  Magic Track Pad doesn't work properly

    Hi,
    The trackpad on my MBP works great with my Win7 OS. I can use to fingers to click and scroll etc. For some reason when I use the Magic Track Pad it doesn't allow me to interact the same way. I've tried installing some 3rd party apps that are meant to make Windows work with the device on NON apple hardware but that hasn't helped. Anyone have any clues?
    Best,
    Jay

    When you connect it & open it WMP click on the SYNC tab of the program. Choose the files you want to sync to the computer then hit SYNC . The files should transfer to the computer. (check your settings as to where you want the files to go.)

  • How to pair Magic Track pad

    Hi every one , I just got Magic track pad -- MC380LL/A Model A1339 to use with Macbook pro 17" late 2011 , I tried to pair it with the Macbook pro , it keep
    looking for the magic pad without finding it , Can you please help to what to do .
          Thanks
          CTF

    You are quite welcome...amazing how many new batteries are actually not strong enough to handle the task.
    There is a solution I have found for my Magic Mouse at home after going through many sets of batteries: the Apple store has a battery charger/rechargable battery set that comes with 6 AA rechargable batteries ($30 US).  I just replace the batteries when they get low with a charged set and pop the low batteries in the charger for a few housrs.  Always have a set ready to go that way.

  • Magic track pad preferences

    Hello,
    since this morning I am using the magic track pad and really love it.
    But when I open the preferences for the magic trackpad i almost immediately have a message that the preferences left unexpectedly, with the question to send a repport to Apple.
    What is happening.
    Freddy

    It could possibly be a corrupt plist file.
    Look in your hidden user library for
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad.plist
    Drag it to the desktop and logoff/logon.  The plist will be recreated.
    To reach your hidden library, start a finder window and on the menubar, Finder > Go > Hold the Option key down > select Library.
