Can't Select Clips

Here's The Problem:
If I want to add an effect to my iMovie project I double click the clip in my project and when the window pops up it says "No Clip(s) Selected".
I don't know what do to.
This is very frustrating.
I hate iMovie ,09!

In my setup it has double cick to edit and clicking in events browser selects 5 seconds.
But I just tested with the other configs and it's the same thing.
For me, I lose the ability to select a clip as soon as I modify the speed of a clip. Could it have something to do with the compression of the file?
I tried using other formats (DV, ...) but it ends up with the same thing.
Once it 'breaks' then it gives me a "no clip selected" message.
Thanks for any ideas.

  • Can't select clips in project

Several times now, I've run in to a problem where I can't select clips in the project.  I can click everyewhere else, I can chnage and use other tools, but I can't select a clip!  I've tried dragging a box and clicking directly on the clip, but no luck.  A restart fixes the issue, but it's happened many times.
    Any suggestions?

I forgot about the C key... I'll try that next time.  I had the select tool (A) selected, so it should have worked.  With a restart everything is fine now, but it's odd that it's happened several times.  I also try things like switching apps, resize the window, change tools, switch projects, but nothing seems to bring it back (except a re-start.)

  • Something happened, now I can't select clips in the timeline of my current project(in Elements 4)

I've been working on a project for a few days now, everything's been fine. Last night while editing, something happened when I was trying to add a transition between two clips. Now I can't select or edit any clips in the timeline anymore, and can't add new ones. When I click on the clips in the timeline, nothing happens. When I try to drag the select box around several of them, same thing. It acts like there's nothing to select. Same thing with right clicks, soundtrack mp3s, etc. The clips ARE still THERE though, and they all play fine in the preview screen in real time, and when I drag the slider back and forth along them.
All the clips are already rendered except the one transition I was adding when this started. When I hit 'Enter' to render, though, it says "Rendering 1 of 6 Audio Previews" instead of the usual x-number of video previews. I've not seen that before so it probably has something to do with all this.
It's ONLY with this one project. I can still edit and select clips in all my other projects as before.
I've already tried loading other projects and then coming back to this one, as well as closing the program and re-opening it. My current project is still stuck like this but the others are fine.
Please keep all this info in mind. This can't have anything to do with codecs or the clips being in the wrong format for the program. They're all regular AVI files and MP3s, I've been selecting and editing every single clip on this timeline dozens of times over the past few days with no problems. I'm just suddenly not able to select or edit them anymore or add anything new to the timeline, but they still play normally as previews.
I'm really hoping this is a simple thing where I've just tripped some setting and accidentally saved it that way and it can be easily changed back.

OK, then all that I suggested here:
Now, Exit from PrE, and Shutdown the computer completely. Wait a few moments, and then do a cold boot, launching PrE and Opening that Save_As Project. Do you now have the ability to edit the Clips on the Timeline?
If not, go to the location where you Copied the AutoSave folder, and view the files with Detail View ON. Then, look at the Date/Time of the files (probably will be 5 of them). Choose the last one written, Open that, and test. If no change, work backwards to the oldest.
If nothing is working, the only thing that comes to my mind would be an issue with the display driver, BUT that should affect all Projects, and not just this one. However, updating the video driver is always a good step, and should not hurt anything.
Note: many MP3's can cause all sorts of problems. I recommend always converting them to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, and replacing MP3's with those WAV files. One can use the great, free audio-editor, Audacity, to convert the MP3's.
If all of the above tests fail, let us know, and if you get any error, or warning messages, copy those down completely, and post those
    all failed too?
If so, there is nothing that I can suggest. It seems that your Project is hosed, and is very likely not recoverable.
    Sorry,

  • I can not select clips in the program monitor?

Normally I can double click on the sequence program monitor and select clips to scale and move about.. but for some reason this is not working? This happened to me once before but I forget how I fixed it.. I think it was a hotkey or something?
Any ideas how to enable this feature again?

Just position the playhead over the clip  double clicking in the PW should also work, at least it does for me.
Selecting clip and clicking on the Transform Icon in the Effect Controls comes in handy when a clip is superimposed by another clip.

  • Multiple glitches, e.g., suddenly can't select clips or precision edit

I suddenly am unable to select clips or parts of clips - the yellow outline no longer appears around the selected frames. When I click on precision edit, the lower screen no longer appears. Have lost a number of edits to a project, for example, the title and parts of clips that I'd already edited have disappeared. Then the program crashed.

I found the latest version of iMovie on the Apple website, downloaded and installed it. I'm now able to select clips and use the precision editor on new projects, but not able to precision edit the project I was working on when it crashed. I will start over again with the project.

  • I would like to use GarageBand to remaster downloaded music files that are in iTunes.  Poorly mastered files keep clipping and damaging my speakers.  When I try to use an iTunes file as a new project, it greys out the iTunes songs so I can't select them.

As I said - look whether your original file is damaged or not. If not, I wouldn't change it and find out what in your system makes it sound like it's clipping.
Good sound file, with volume maxed out. No need to change anything.
The same song clipped - no chance to repair.

  • Can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie

Hi, i can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie, it only lets me import one video at a time. Apple please fix in next update or if anyone has a solution please post.

Obviously you can not select the video to import until after iMovie populates the list of videos that are available to be imported

  • Imovie 08 glitches - can't select/edit/or modify clips with

I have used imovie 08 for multiple projects with no problems. My HD has plenty of space, and imovie is the only application open.
I can download video and audio from a camera in the events pane. Here are the problems:
    1. Can skim the event video, but can't see where I am at or control the vertical line that runs left to right.
    2. I can't select a specific piece of video out of the events pane to put in the project pane unless it is pre-cut/already there.
    3. Once the video clip goes from event into project pane, I cannot trim it in any way.
    4. I can get it to pull up cropping and audio.
Basically, I can't tell where I am at in the events pane while skimming, and I also cannot select peices of clips in the events pane. I also can't trim video in the project pane once some video goes in there.
Any help would be appreciated. It has worked great for three months of several projects, and now it is really acting up.

Have the exact same problem, up till now everything worked fine. Not sure when it started, various OS - iApps - QT updates recently, but here it is. I dragged a 90 minute .mov file to the clips pane, 55 minutes of importing (including the 5 minute beach ball at the end) and although the drop down finder bar menus work I can't select anything in the window including the clip itself, timeline/clip viewer switch, or the red-yellow-green buttons at the top left corner. Although "select all" is available in the edit drop down menu nothing selects. Tried tossing the com.apple.imovie.plist with no change. Opened a new movie with nothing imported same thing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • How can I select multiple clips in the event browser?

I can't seem to figure out how to do something that should be pretty simple. I want to select multiple clips in the event browser that aren't next to each other. Right now it's only letting me select the two clips with every other clip in between. Is there a keyboard function that will allow me to deselect the clips in between while leaving the two on the outside selected? In Apple's finder you can do this with files by holding down shift-command while clicking on the ones you want. Or is there away to rearrange clips in the event browswer?
I'd like to be able to create a multicam clip, but there is always going to be other media in between the clips I want to combine, so how can I select only the clips I want?
    Thanks!

Holding the Command key should let you select non-contiguous items, just as in the Finder.

  • I've created a movie but at the end there is an invisible audio clip that keeps playing. How can I select it and delete it?

    Hello everyone,
This is Karie Garnier in British Columbia, Canada.
    I'm new to FCPX.
I've created a 20 minute movie, but at the end of the movie, there is an invisible audio clip that keeps playing.
How can a video clip be playing and making sounds, when it doesn't appear in the timeline? and ...
How can I select this invisible audio clip and delete it?

I think you could be right, that it's an old render file that's got stuck.
By the time I finished this movie my 500 GB hard drive was 99.9% full and
FCP started acting wierd, so I suspect you are right.
I have since upgraded my hard drive to one 1000 GBs but when I play the movie the
    glitch remains.
    Can you please tell me:
       a) How can I fix the old render file so that it is no longer stuck?  ... and
       b) How do I take a screen shot of the timeline?

  • Can't select, drag or do anything with clips

Can't select any clips in any iMovie project, but I can use the FILE, EDIT, WINDOW, etc. functions. Nothing else will work, not minimizing the program, not playing the clips, dragging, cutting, etc.
it started around the time I updated to Quicktime 7.4.1
I had been putting that off because of the issues with AE, but decided to run it last night. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or if it's just coincidental.

  • Some scenes washed out/can't select specific clips to edit?

Basically, some parts of the video look like this:
I found out how to lower the brightness. It's not a perfect fix, but it works for me since I'm not using it for anything special. The problem is, when I don't know how to edit one or two particular clips without changing the rest of the video. Unless, someone has a better idea on how to fix this lighting problem.

    Am I missing something simple?
It's simple, but not at all obvious:
If you have Show Track Keyframes or Show Track Volume selected, you can't select or move your audio (unless you grab the video portion). The rationale is that, while adjusting clip keyframes/volume is relative to sequence time, adjusting track keyframes/volume is absolute to sequence time. This is a "save me from myself" kind of thing, where the assumption is that you're only adjusting track volume once your clips are in their final time positions in the sequence. By not being able to select the audio while you're adjusting track volume, you're prevented from accidentally moving your audio around whilst adjusting levels/keyframes. It does make sense, but it's not at all obvious what the solution is when you don't even know what the problem is!
    Hope that helps...

  • Something basic is not working - I can't select TL clips

I can't select a group of clips on the timeline.  I usually put the playhead (cti) before the first clip.  Then hold shift while tapping the down arrow.  Selects one clip then another, then another.  I've been doing this for almost a decade.  What the heck is happening?  I have restarted program and computer.
    FC 7

It worked!  Click on a cell, then click a few cells to the right.  I'm speechless.
Here's another thing I see.  If I edit footage (new clips in a timeline) why would they suddenly, automatically unlink V and A1A2.  I could probably figure this one out.
Actually, no.  Just FCP.  Barely touched AE.  And I use Pshop.  But not Premiere if you thought that.
    Thanks, Chris

  • Can't use "Clip" on selection in timeline?

I'm not sure what keys I hit, but suddenly I am unable to perform any options under the "Clip" menu whenever I have part of a clip selected in the timeline. If I select the whole clip, the options become available. But part of a clip? Nothing. Everything is greyed out.
Further, the mouse pointer now has this extra gold box under the arrow. I thought I had accidentally selected the "Range Selection" pointer, so I pressed A on my keyboard to choose the "Select" pointer, but the gold box remains, and I can't use any Clip menu items (this also prevents me from right-clicking on the selection as well). See screenshot below.
I'm sure it's an easy fix, but I searched

After selecting the clip you use range tool to select the portion of clip you want to have 'clip menu workable'. Copy this portion of clip and add it to the end of the timeline. Bring that copied part of the clip and place it atop the 'mother clip' from where you had copied this bit. Now you can select this clip and find it to be 'clip menu workable'.
The selected clip at the end of the timeline has been copied and pasted there from the 'mother clip' to the left on the primary storyline. You can now drag this last clip and place it atop the 'mother clip':
Now this portion of clip has become 'clip menu workable'.
BTW your screenshot cannot be viewed by me either in Safari or Google. Wonder why?

  • I am having a difficult time getting the duration of multiple selected clips. The duration display only will display the time for one clip.  Yes, I know I can add them up myself, but why?  :-)

    I am using imovie 10.0.6

For reasons that you would have to ask Apple for they decided not to allow the precise position of the playhead to be shown in iMovie 10 (unlike in FCP 10.1.x).
