Can't select correct resolution in Windows XP on 27" iMac

I've been very frustrated trying to install Bootcamp on my 27" i7 iMac. I basically have all the drivers installed and working now, but I still see two items labeled "Default Monitor" in the list of Monitors attached to my system, even though I have no external monitor attached. Even though I have installed the latest Catalyst drivers, the monitors are not detected. The only way I can see anything is by booting into VGA mode. From VGA mode, if I try to select any other resolution I get a black screen. When I look at the supported graphics modes, they don't list the native resolution of the monitor. There are some very high resolutions, but not the exact one I need. Any ideas?

I wanted to update the drivers. This works for me:

Maybe it solves your problem.

  • Can't get correct resolution for second monitor

I am trying to use two monitors with a Vostro 1400 (Intel X3100 video card), the problem is I can't set the external monitor to 1280x1024. Gnome's screen resolution program only let me choose from 640x480 to 1360x768. Besides the resolution of the second monitor, everything else seems to be working fine. Some relevant info:

    Yes, I tried xrandr:
    $ xrandr --newmode "1280x1024" 65.0 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -vsync -hsync
    $ xrandr --addmode VGA 1280x1024
$ xrandr --output VGA --mode 1280x1024
$ xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS
At first this didn't work at all, so I tried to mess with screen resolution applet and got output on the second monitor, but not at the desired resolution.
I tried running these commands again and got output on the second monitor, but at the wrong resolution. The strange part is that the resolution I want is listed by xrandr:
    $ xrandr -q

  • Linux 3.8, i915, and DisplayPort: X11 can't use correct resolution

I'm using a DELL E6230 which is connected to an external DELL U2711
monitor using a DisplayPort cable. The maximal resolution of that
monitor is 2560x1440. When using a 3.7 Linux kernel everything works
like a charm.  With all the 3.8 kernels I have tried (the "official"
Arch kernels 3.8.3 and 3.8.4), I'm not longer able to use that
resolution. The maximal resolution I can get is 1920x1080 (the same
aspect ratio that the native LCD which is 1366x768).
When using the 3.8 kernel, the machine boots but when X starts, it just
produces a black screen. I have tried to change the hardware acceleration (sna) in
the X configuration but it had no effect. I have also tried downgrading the X server,
xf86-video-intel, and intel-dir without any change (I'm currently using
    xf86-video-intel 2.21.5-1, intel-dri 9.1.1-1, and xorg-server 1.14.0-2).
Downgrading to Linux 3.7.9-2-ARCH had solved the problem for me but
it does not look like a long term solution. Any suggestion for solving
    that problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

This is very interesting.  I have two nearly identically configured Arch systems (home and office), and I just did the last big upgrade on both.  The office system survived just fine, but the home system, after running for a minute or two, core dumps with a graphics-sounding error spew and sends me out of my window manager and back to a command prompt. ("can't open screen at 0,0" or something...no time for a deeper dive--I had to leave for work)  I didn't have time to t-shoot before taking off, but I reproduced the issue three times before leaving for the office.  One of the few differences between the two dual-monitor systems is that the failing one is driving two 2560 x 1440 res screens.  Odd thing is, I can get into my graphical environment for a few minutes before the crash...might try rolling the kernel back.  thanks!

  • Vizio hdtv via VGA to HDMI cable - can't get correct resolution

I'm trying to configure the resolution for a Vizio va22lfhdtv10t on a Mini. When I used a DVI to VGA adapter the resolution was very good at 1920*1080. Now that I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable it defaults to 1080p with 30hz refresh. Font resolution is terrible on this setting and only marginally better when trying the other resolution options. I have seen some posts about creating a custom resolution, but don't know how to do this, or if there is a danger of damaging the LCD with improper settings. Has anyone gotten this HDTV to work other than as a VGA display?
    Thanks!

1920 x 1080 is the native resolution, so (a) I wouldn't try any other resolution, and (b) I'd ONLY use a digital input (HDMI).
If you're getting crummy unsharp pictures, it sounds as if the TV's scaler is working. You need to look for a menu setting (on the TV) to turn off the scaler. It might be called something like "1:1 pixel" mapping, or "overscan OFF" or some thing similar.
I see on the manual p.35:
+4. Wide - The Wide option lets you determine how the image appears on the screen. Select Normal, Wide, or Panoramic.+
Try those three. My guess is you want "wide" mode for a 1920x1080 feed.
Also, H and V size and position can be adjusted (p.35/36) - maybe that will help?

  • Display Resolution in Windows

When I run Windows 7 in VMWare Fusion 4, I am not able to run the Thunderbolt Display in 2560x1440 resolution. I can either select a resolution that doesn't fill the width of the monitor, but still looks crisp, or a lesser resolution that does fill the monitor, but looks like crap. Is Apple going to release a driver for Windows 7 so that the monitor can be run in its native resolution?

Try Parallels Desktop 7. You probably do not want to spend another $80 after dropping $1K. I purchased two (2) Thunderbolt Displays, and the Windows screens - although I did not check resolution, were very clear. I will check resolution next weekend when I am at my home where the new setup is. At minimum, try the 14 day free trial that Parallels offers.
Let me know if this works.

  • Imovie 08 glitches - can't select/edit/or modify clips with

I have used imovie 08 for multiple projects with no problems. My HD has plenty of space, and imovie is the only application open.
I can download video and audio from a camera in the events pane. Here are the problems:
    1. Can skim the event video, but can't see where I am at or control the vertical line that runs left to right.
    2. I can't select a specific piece of video out of the events pane to put in the project pane unless it is pre-cut/already there.
    3. Once the video clip goes from event into project pane, I cannot trim it in any way.
    4. I can get it to pull up cropping and audio.
Basically, I can't tell where I am at in the events pane while skimming, and I also cannot select peices of clips in the events pane. I also can't trim video in the project pane once some video goes in there.
Any help would be appreciated. It has worked great for three months of several projects, and now it is really acting up.

Have the exact same problem, up till now everything worked fine. Not sure when it started, various OS - iApps - QT updates recently, but here it is. I dragged a 90 minute .mov file to the clips pane, 55 minutes of importing (including the 5 minute beach ball at the end) and although the drop down finder bar menus work I can't select anything in the window including the clip itself, timeline/clip viewer switch, or the red-yellow-green buttons at the top left corner. Although "select all" is available in the edit drop down menu nothing selects. Tried tossing the com.apple.imovie.plist with no change. Opened a new movie with nothing imported same thing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Can't select, drag or do anything with clips

Can't select any clips in any iMovie project, but I can use the FILE, EDIT, WINDOW, etc. functions. Nothing else will work, not minimizing the program, not playing the clips, dragging, cutting, etc.
it started around the time I updated to Quicktime 7.4.1
I had been putting that off because of the issues with AE, but decided to run it last night. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or if it's just coincidental.

  • Able to select resolution in Windows?

    Hello,
I spent 2 days working through boot camp issues and finally got it installed.  The reason I wanted to install it is because I wanted to play some games that only come on PC - especially Star Citizen.
When I play the game, its PAINFULLY MISERABLY slow.  It takes more than 20 seconds for it to respond to my actions.  I posted some questions on the board there and they said that it's either my resolution or my RAM.
Is there a way to change the resolution only on the PC side so I don't have to always change it back on the Mac?  That would be very inconvenient.   I tried to change it but it seems like I have to change it on the Mac.  Also when I tried, then logged into the PC again, there was just a green screen - it didn't allow me to log in.
Another player commented that it may be my RAM.  I have 8GB of Ram but they said that the PC may get less since I'm using Boot Camp.  Would that be correct?  Do I need to install more RAM?
    iMac 27 inch, late 2013
    3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    8GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024MB
    10.10.2 Yosemite
    Windows 8.1 via boot camp
    THANK YOU!!!

Thank you.  When I go to change resolution, it shows what it currently is but there is no option to change.
I haven't been able to change resolution in windows at all.  I changed in Mac side but it would not load windows after I did that.
To install the NVidia driver, which file would I select?  THANKS

  • Can't use correct driver for Canon MF4140 USB printer shared by Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have a Canon MF4140 printer connected to my Windows XP desktop machine via USB. The printer is shared and I can see it over the network with my MacBook running OS-X 10.4.
I've downloaded the OS-X version of the printer driver from Canon, but I can't select it when adding the printer in OS-X, so I can't access any of the printer settings. I've selected the generic driver but that doesn't allow me to do double sided or 2-up printing.
Is this because the printer driver does not support network printing, as the printer doesn't have a network interface?

I guess this isn't clear on the iFelix page. To use any of the built-in network printing protocols on OS X, you must either have a postscript printer (postscript printers don't require a driver, just a PPD), or a driver that works with the CUPS system (a CUPS driver). So far, Brother is the only non-postscript printer manufacturer that provides CUPS drivers. For every other non-postscript printer, you need a third-party CUPS driver. Apple tried to get around this issue by including Gimp-Print drivers (open source CUPS drivers), but your model isn't in Gimp-Print. You can look around for other CUPS drivers, but Lexmark hasn't been cooperative with driver writers. Here are the CUPS driver sources:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/
    http://www.easysw.com/printpro/
    http://www.printfab.net/
You may find it easier to share from OS X.

  • Outlook 2010 on Exchange 2007 ~ Can no longer see Calendar in Folder List ~ Only viewable by right-clicking favorite icon and selecting 'Open in New Window'

Office 2010, Windows 7 64 bit, BB sync, everything has been fine since forever. All of a sudden between Saturday and today, *poof* I can't get the calendar view.
I have tried the switches, /resetfolder and all the rest, repair install Office, etc., no go.
I can log into my OWA view and calendar shows up there, but on the local system, when you clicl on Calendar, it shows My Calendars at the top, but there is no calendar. The only way to view it is to right click Calendar and choose 'Open in New Window'.
All my data is there, can add to it and all, but it is missing from the folder list, thereby making it very difficult to use.
I also created a new profile, connected to Exchange ONLY and it still will only show the calendar if you select 'Open in New Window Only'. I can post a screen shot if this allows.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brian

    Hi ,
I suggest you refer to the following steps to recreate the Calendar folder.
    1. Switch Outlook to Online mode.
    2. Start MFCMAPI and create a backup of the Calendar items
    a. Open the Calendar folder by double clicking it.
    b. Select all items (simple ctrl+a).
    c. Copy all items into an empty folder.
    d. Additionally you can create a backup using a PST file if you wish.
    3. Delete the Calendar folder using MFCMAPI.
    4. Close Outlook.
5.Recreate Windows Profile and Outlook Profile.
    6. Start Outlook with “/resetfolders” switch, this will recreate the default Calendar folder.
    7. Try to set permissions on the Calendar folder to see how it works with a fresh and empty folder.
    8. Copy/Move the items back into the Calendar.
By the way, I don’t understand “the local system” what you said, it can view My calendars at top in Outlook or OWA ?
And it can’t view calendar list or the calendar content under My Calendar?

GFS Didot is nearest listed MUSE font in appearance to Adobe Caslon Pro, which is the font used in the book which the website is intended to promote.  I would like to use Adobe Caslon Pro (I paid for it and it's on my computer, but not in the cloud). Is there any way to install Adobe Caslon Pro as a MUSE font choice in the cloud?

  • TS4403 On my windows 7 computer the iCloud control panel has Photo Steam greyed out and I can't select it

I checked my iphone and icloud is set to share my Photo Stream but from my computer with icloud 2.1.2 the Photo Stream option is greyed out and I can't select it. What to do??

Some people have fixed this by uninstalling iCloud (control panel>uninstall or change a program>iCloud>uninstall), restarting the PC, then download and reinstall the iCloud control panel for Windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455.

  • Can't select user for file sharing with windows

I'm trying to share my MBPr over my LAN with my windows 8 desktop. When i go to the file sharing options, under "Windows File Sharing" section, the user account i want to share (my main account) is greyed out, so I can not select it. The other user account is selectable though.
Any reason why I can't select my main account??

wow, is that all it took? I spent several hours on support chat who ultimately made me create a new user account and import all my old account data over to that one. It worked, but would have been way easier to just change the password. Oh well. It's fixed now...
