Can't select folder in sidebar

Hi,
I just installed snow leopard yesterday and since then I have not been able to select the "utilities" folder from the sidebar of any open folder. I can't open it or select it to move it within the sidebar, but can move other folders around it. I dragged and added a second utilities folder to the sidebar that I can access, but I would like to get rid of the annoying, useless one. Any ideas?

Here's another one -- I just tried to copy and paste a screen shot of the sidebar into this message, but ended up with the above script. I can't paste any pics into the message and have seen others do it. How would I add a jpg to the message?

Hi,
Thanks for info regarding posting screenshots. Unfortunately, I can't drag the folder off the sidebar. That is the problem I am trying to describe. I cannot select it. I hover the mouse pointer over the folder and it does not acknowledge that it is there.

  • Can't delete, open or select folder in sidebar

I cannot open, select or delete a folder in my sidebar.  Every other folder works.  It doesn't even show up in my spotlight search. Any clue?  I'd like to get rid of it, but I'd also like to see what is inside first.  Here's a pic of the folder I can't activiate.  It's called Desktop_new

    Go to ~/Library/Preferences.
Move the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Can't select folder for wallpaper in Gnome 3?

Still getting the hang of a fresh Arch install over here. I'm just trying to set up some rotating wallpapers in Gnome 3. I find it surprising that under the System Settings > Select Background, I'm only given the options of the pre-installed wallpapers?
Is there seriously no way to change the wallpaper directory or add my own folder to the list of chooseable wallpapers? I thought Gnome 3 was going to be a LITTLE bit more user-friendly than this. It almost has me considering out other DEs. I went with Gnome 3 since my experience with Linux is from Ubuntu (back in the Gnome 2 days) and wanted to start learning more. I didn't mind Unity, but always preferred the more polished look of Gnome 3. I hear a lot of people talk about Openbox or Awesome. Are they worth looking into?
I know a lot of you may have differences on opinion, I'm looking for any suggestions. Is my Gnome 3 experience limited because I didn't install the extras? They mostly looked like games so I didn't bother installing it.

You might want to install 'gnome-tweak-tool' (and the SettingsCenter shell extension for a nice integration/easy access).
The selection of your wallpaper isn't as visually pleasing but you can select any picture from anywhere in your filesystem. Plus you can easily set the option for stretching/scaling/centering/etc the wallpaper.
I really love Gnome3 but with some things the devs went overboard - considering simplicity. :-/
Without some shell extensions I'd probably go back to xfce or kde...

  • How Can I Select Folder From itunes will import my photos?

When I begin to sync my ipod Classic with itunes 8.0, I see the screen with tabs on it that allow me to set my upload preferences. When the syncing is occurring, I'm unable to make any changes. When the syncing is completed, this screen disappears and I can't seem to bring it up again.
I want to use this screen to change the folder from which the photos that will show on my ipod will come from.
Will somebody tell me how to get to the screen that will allow me to change the folder that my photos to be stored on my ipod come from?
    Thanks.

*When the syncing is completed, this screen disappears and I can't seem to bring it up again.*
Have you tried clicking directly on the iPod icon in the iTunes source list to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane?
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes which might help. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.

  • Can't save attachments to selected folder

I've just started using BT Yahoo email, as my LiveMail is kaput, and I find I can't download an attachment to a selected folder. When I click on the file, I'm given merely the generic option to 'Save to computer'. (See screen shot.) This just sends the file to my Download folder where it gets lost among 1001 other files. What am I doing wrong?

Can I use only one (selected) folder from my documents in iCloud for MAC and PC?

If the folders were created in the Photos app on the iPad, they don't really contain copies of the photos. They contain pointers to those photos that allow them to appear in the albums that you create. Consequently, they cannot be imported to the computer. Those albums are for local organization on the iPad only And cannot be imported.
You should be able to select the indicidual phots that you want to import, as far as I know. I can do it on a Mac using iPhoto or Image Capture, so I assume that Windows will allow you to pick and choose which photos you want to import.

  • Can't drag ringtone into sidebar

    Hi all,
Following previous advice on this column I have created a ringtone (.m4r file) but can't drag it into the ringtone sidebar in itunes. As a consequence, can't use it on iphone! Please help!

Try this: /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. From the Preferences folder, drag this file
com.apple.iTunes.plist to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. You will have to reset your iTunes preferences but since you can't select ring tones in the pref pane, it might be the only solution. Your Mac will create a new pref file for you the next time you launch iTunes.

  • Can not select external input for sound

can not select external input for sound

    Hey there RoosterMonkey,
It sounds like you have Soundtrack Pro installed but you cannot select your external audio device as an input. I recommend the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    Soundtrack Pro 3: Troubleshooting Basics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3659
Update to the latest software versions
From the Apple () menu, choose Software Update and make sure that you have the most recent updates for your versions of Soundtrack Pro 3, QuickTime, Compressor, Pro Application Support, and other important system files. Installing the latest updates ensures that your software has the latest improvements and enhancements.
Note: Be sure the application is in the Applications folder and is named Soundtrack Pro before running Software Update.
Check compatibility and driver versions for third-party devices
If you're using a third-party sound card, MIDI interface, storage system, control surface, or plug-in, check the support area on the manufacturer's website to be sure that you're using the latest version of the relevant driver or other software for your product. For information on troubleshooting possible issues with Audio Unit plug-ins, go to Soundtrack Pro 3: Troubleshooting Audio Unit plug-in issues.
Try a different Multitrack Project or Audio File Project
Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Soundtrack Pro. To create a fresh project, choose File, then New and select Multitrack Project or Audio File. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project.
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Soundtrack Pro to its original settings. This will not impact your project files. To reset your Soundtrack Pro user preference settings to their original state:
Quit Soundtrack Pro if it is open.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu bar.
Type ~/Library/Preferences  in the "Go to the folder" field.
Remove the "com.apple.soundtrackpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro  in the "Go to the folder" field.
Remove the "EffectsCache.plist" file from the Soundtrack Pro folder.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Application Support/Soundtrack Pro/Layouts  in the "Go to folder" field.
Remove the "Soundtrack Pro.saved.moduleLayout" file from the Layouts folder.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Caches in the "Go to folder" field.
Remove the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" from the Caches folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Soundtrack Pro and Compressor. To do this effectively, you need to remove the applications and their receipts, then install Soundtrack Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. Compressor gets installed automatically when you install Soundtrack Pro. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Soundtrack Pro, so follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Soundtrack Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs handy before beginning.
In Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X Lion
Open the Terminal application and enter the following commands one at a time and an administrator password when prompted. Note: The commands are case sensitive.
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Compressor
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Qmaster
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.VideoOutSupport
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.PSTSharedA
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.AppleHDVCodec
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.AppleIntermediateCodec
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.DSPPublishing
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.SoundtrackPro
    sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Uncompressed422
Then, reinstall Soundtrack Pro and Compressor using the following steps:
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Soundtrack Pro and Compressor applications to the Trash.
Insert your Logic Studio or Final Cut Studio installation disc and install Soundtrack Pro.
When finished installing, choose the Apple () menu, then Software Update to update your software to the latest version.
Open Soundtrack Pro to verify that the issue has been resolved.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • How can I select folders to add to my iTunes all at once?

I have all of my music based in a separate folder from my iTunes, and it is also backed up on an external hard drive in the iTunes library because I have my preferences set to "Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to."
The problem is, when I click add folder to Library, I can only select one folder at a time.  I want to add multiple folders, but not all  of the sub-folders that are contained underneath the same folder.  I used to be able to do this, with a window that allowed me to use the ctrl key to select multiple folders.  I used to click the folder everything was in, and it would open that folder so I could select the certain folders I wanted.  Now, I get a window only with a + next to folders that opens up the subfolders and I can only select one.
How do I get back to the other style of window?  It is not my version of iTunes because I have updated it on all of my computers/laptops, and the one laptop I use iTunes with the most is the only one that gives me this problem.  Moving my music folders (or even copying them) to a new folder to add them is not an option.  I am dealing with too much music and I'm not willing to waste that much time, especially when I know there is an easier way that I used to be able to use.

    Hello rudyray,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to adjust view options. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
OS X Yosemite: Ways to view items in Finder windows
Further customize Icon, List, Column, or Cover Flow view
You can customize each view to accommodate your preferences. For example, you can change the text size of file names and, in some views, change the size of file icons.
Select a folder in the Finder, then click a View button: Icon, List, Column, or Cover Flow.
Choose View > Show View Options, then set the options you want.
To have the folder always open in the view, select the “Always open in” checkbox.
To have subfolders also open in the view, select the “Browse in” checkbox.
If a subfolder opens in a different view, select the subfolder, choose View > Show View Options, then deselect the “Always open in” and “Browse in” checkboxes. The checkboxes must be selected for the main folder and deselected for the subfolder.
To use these settings for all Finder folders that are in this view, click Use as Defaults.
For example, if you set options for Icon view, then click Use as Defaults, all folders in Icon view appear with the same options. Use as Defaults isn’t available for Column view because the settings apply automatically to all folders in Column view.

    Have a nice day,

  • Outlook calendar problem - can only select PM

This is probably in the wrong forum so please forgive the error.
When using the outlook client on my new MacBook Air, I only have the option to select PM for scheduling appointments in the calendar.  I can't select AM when creating the appointment and if I go into preferences in outlook and click on calendar I get the image attached below when I try and set the option for when my day starts and ends.
It doesn't matter if I use the 24 hour clock or "show AM/PM" in system preferences under "date and time", although I haven't tried changing them and then rebooting the machine.
This is unique to this machine, as the issue doesn't occur on a windows based desktop logged into the same account in outlook, nor on my iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

I installed mavericks from a USB and reformatted the hd.  I set up a new user account added email, apple ID  etc and then downloaded new iPhoto and iMovie.  I manually copied documents, music inc itunes library folder and photos from time machine back up.   I also copied original apps only using migration assistant to get idvd and garageband back as despite a lot of searching i couldnt find a way to selectively reinstall original apps not purchased from app store.  Only third party apps are photoshop elements 9 and office 2011.

  • How can I select a date to view in Calendar while I am in month view?

I am looking at month view in Calendar on my iPad. I touch a date. Intuitively, I expect that date to open up in Day or Week view, but it doesn't! On my iphone, it works just fine. Am I missing something?
How can I select a date to view while in Month view and have it go to Day or Week view?
    Thanks for any help.

    I would try this:
In Lr import one photo into a different folder that you can see in the list.
Then in your OS (mac Finder / Win Explorer) move the photo to the folder that you cannot see.
In Lr the photo will now appear with a question mark on its frame. Click directly on the question mark and select <Locate photo>. Navigate to the folder, open it, and click on the photo.
Maybe this will help Lr to recognize the folder.
If this doesn't help try renaming the folder in your OS.
