Can't select Master Page object on document page.

Hi,
Yes, I know this question has been asked a million times. But, it's just not working for me. I've got a simple green box at the bottom right of my master page. I've made it into a button. I've allowed the master page to overwrite. But, on my document pages I simply cannot select this object. I've made the object into a button, per the master page, and, I need to have it link from each page back to a previous page in the document. Yes, I've tried Cmd + Shift, then click on the object, but, that doesn't work.
My button shares space with a page text box. Those are the only objects on the page, though. If I move the text box up, then yes, I can select the button. But, that's cheating.

What do you mean shares space with? Is it on top of the button?
If so, try locking it the text frame..

TS2128 How can I select multiple SEPARATE objects/words in Pages (Mavericks version)?

When I type a document and decide to italicise a couple of separate words throughout the document how can I select them at once? Pressing Shift selects all the words between the first and the second, that does not help me. In Pages 09 it worked with either cmd or ctrl or alt (I don't remember which, but one of them worked) but I tried all of them now and nothing happens.
Can anyone help me?

You can't do it anymore. Pages 5 is a stripped application and has lost about 90 feature that Pages 09 has. Read more about it in other threads in this forum.

Can I resuse master dat object that was used in a different ODS? Except one, the attributes for the existing one and mine are not matching. Should I create a new one or can i somehow reuse it? If yes how?

See if the object has more attributes than you need, it does not reallt bear upon the InfoProvider design, in the sense that if you don't need the attribure, then don't mark it as navigational. The data of the attribute is anyways stored out of the cube.
Using your custom MATERIAL InfoObject or 0MATERIAL: The decision should be based on reporting requirements...like what if you need to do RRI based on Material, or later you want to create a multiprovider...

I can't select a portion of a scanned page

I often have documents scanned into PDF format at two different copy shops. Sometimes I want to use the Acrobat 8 or Adobe Reader 7 selection tool to select a portion of a scanned page and then edit that selection in Photoshop.
When I open scan from one of the shops (which uses Acrobat 4 for scannng) and choose the selection tool, the cursor turns into a crosshair and I am able to then marquee-select a portion of the scanned image, copy the selection and then edit the selected image in Photoshop.
When I open a scanned image from the other copy shop (which uses Acrobat 7 for scanning) and choose the selection tool, the cursor remains an arrowhead and I cannot select any portion of the scanned image.
Can you please tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks

You can only edit an entire graphic, not parts. In addition, you can not do the edit in Reader. In both of the cases you describe, you should be able to select the image to edit. The process you are using sounds like a graphic copy (at the screen resolution) which is far from an optimal process for getting the graphics. You can save all graphics to the hard drive and edit those, retaining all of the resolution of the original.
In terms of the two cases, it sounds like the second shop may have set security to not allow copying of the graphic screen.

Can't select text or object

new to indesign here. I created a simple one page layout with a header that is a rectangle shape with text on it. saved it. next day can not select it to reposition or work on the text or anything. I am sure it is not a layers thing as there is only one layer. the only other thing I did with it is to export it as a pdf. but there are other text on the page that I can select just not the shape at the top. ???

Sounds like you were working on the master page when you made that header. If in fact that's where it is, and what you intended, you can access it for editing on a live page by Cmd [Ctrl] + Shift clicking it and overriding it onto the page, or you can edit onthe master page without overriding. If it doesn't really belong on the master page (and in my humble opinion most things you plan to edit don't), then select it on the master page, cut, and paste in place on the live page.
Are you a refugee Quark user? Master items in ID are far more sacrosanct that you are used to, and it takes a while to stop thinking Q and start thinking ID.

Can I select a rectangle in pdf document, identify the bounds, and then retrieve the text with vba?

I am using MS Access 2010 VBA and acrobat X, and AcroExchg. I can manipulate and search pdf documents without difficulty. I would like to programmatically capture the text in a rectangle that I have drawn on the document with a mouse. It appears that If I can obtain the bounding rectangle that I could use AcroExchg.PDTextSelect to retrieve the text. Is there a way to retrieve the coordinates of a mouse drawn rectangle in a pdf document. In other words the equivalent of select, copy and later paste the text into another document?

I have reviewed posts from the adobe forum that indicate that obtaining the coordinates from a user drawn selection are not available through automation with AcroExch, but that function would be available .through a plug in. Unless there is information to the contrary I will look to using menu commands in Acrobat

1. It sounds like what you need is to set the starting version number since your revision number increments in whole numbers, it would match up to SharePoint once the starting version number is set. You can potentially create a new custom field in the
library to manually track the version of the uploaded PDF document, but this might not match up with SharePoint's own version number and could get confusing. Another possibility is to upload dummy versions of the PDF document until the SP version
matches with the revision version and then delete these dummy versions.
2. When you upload the PDF document again into the library, it should prompt you to see if you want to replace the existing. If you proceed with the upload, it should replace and increment the SharePoint version number.

If you create an association between them, you can go to the association editor (double-click the association) and use the Association Properties section to click the "Expose Accessor" checkbox(es). If you expose the accessor in the detail entity, the java class for your entity implementation will have a getMaster() method (named after your master entity) created for you.

Want to use single page records per document page

Very new user here...using CS5
I'm trying to create a "Day to View" calendar. I've created a document in the required size of the calendar page (76x102mm) and I've merged the data (to create the days etc). As the calendar is small, I'd like to print four per page - so I would get four calendars per 365 printed pages (once cropped).
However, I'm not having any luck putting four on a page. Whenever I create the new document, I do get 365 pages, but only one calendar her page.
I keep thinking I should be using a big A4 page and putting four frames on it or something...but I'm not getting my head around it.

When I want to do something like this I make a single-instance file first, then make a second file and place the pages from the first file into it (in this case using a new page size large enough to hold 4 of the original pages). There is a script from Scott Zanelli that you can get from InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files that makes this very easy. For a 4-up layout you wouold run the script four times, changing the positioning on the page between runs.

Can't select text boxes with Type Tool to write in on pages, only on Master Page

I'm unable to use the Type Tool to select the tax boxes on a document page in Indesign CC. I can select it on the Master Page. I can write on the Master Page. If I apply the Master Page afterwards, the written text from the Master Page appear on the document page, just as it should. But whenever I try to select a column on a document page, all the Type Tool does is draw a new text box (which I can select and write in). What's up with that? I applied the Master multiple times. If I can write on a the Master Page, why not on the document page?

Individual master frames can be overridden on a document page by holding down Cmd + Shift (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift (Windows) and clicking on them with the Selection tool.
Empty master text frames are generally more useful for placing external text files and having them flow from page to page than for typing, and they need not be overridden to do that -- just move the loaded cursor inside the frame.

If you open the Pages panel, (Window>Pages) you will see thumbnails of your master pages and your document pages. In new documents, there is usually a master called A-Master and one called None. If you drag the thumbnail of the None master onto the thumbnail of a document page, it will apply that master to that page. Presumably, you have made your page numbers on A-Master, so this will usually do the trick. If you have elements on A-Master that you need on the first page, but just not the page number, you can duplicate A-Master (which, by default will give you B-Master, but you can change the names if you like) and remove the page number on the duplicate and apply that to the document page.
It might also be worth noting that you can apply master pages in the fly-out of the Pages panel. Go to the fly-out triangle and go down to Apply Master to Pages…, then select a master to apply and the range of pages (1-8 will give you all 8, 1, 3, 5, 7 will be the odds, 1-3, 4, 6-8 if you want continuous ranges and individual pages).

How can I select and enlarge the entire doc,ge on a page, reducing the surrounding boarder. I can move the difference text boxes about independently of each other but the outer most boarders of the main template block appear to be fixed.

Can I link a template to several documents?

I am producing a series of booklets which are all the same size and have a number of common pages at the back.
Is it possible to craete a template that links to each of my documents so that whenever I cahnage the template all the documents will be automatically updated?
It's getting qyuite labourious amending each document every time there is a change to the common pages.

No, that works, but it's more work to revise the file and make a new PDF than it is to just revise the file. Suppose the page count changes? The book takes care of that automatically, the placed file will need to have pages added or removed.
And you have urged the OP to upgrade not only to CS3 but to make the leap to CS4, so you contradict your first argument by saying the OP needs to upgrade at some expense.
I think you misunderstood. My first choice was the no-expense method of using the Book feature (and I'd probably do that in CS4, as well). I simply meant that IF the OP chose to upgrade, he should go all the way to CS4 instead of trying to find a CS3 copy.
Why can't it have page numbering? You make an indesign file with all the data bar the master page items, running heads, footers, page numbers etc.
You place that InDesign file/PDF into the current documents that have the same template as everything else, including page numbers and footers.
Indeed, you can do all of that, but those numbers are imported "as is" and bear no relationship to the current document numbering scheme. Suppose for one version the front part is 94 pages and for another it is 135? What numbers do you want in your placed file? If the template has duplicated master items (i.e. you use the same template to make both documents), I think the situation is even worse -- you'll get stacked elements from the placed document on top of the master elements on the document page (I did not check this for a placed .indd, but it would certainly be true for a PDF).
Just with my first experience using the Book it was a nightmare, especially for a beginner. There's options in there that can turn your numbering inside out and you don't know where to look to fix them.
I still think the book option is a little extreme.
Well, what can I say to that? I've never had a problem with the book feature, but tables drive me crazy...
Every feaure requires some practice to get right, I think. The thing with numbering in books is that it takes control of the individual documents and resets the internal numbering, IF you set the book to do automatic numbering (which is the default, for pretty good reasons) and needs to be changed BEFORE adding documents if you want to turn it off.
I agree that isn't an obvious thing, especially to a new user. I would argue, though, that in this case it wouldn't have much impact. I don't see this as a problem except in the case where a document is to be both used separately and included in a book, in which case you would always need to reset the document numbering internally to use it as a standalone.

If a master data is schedule for some changes...ie InfoObjects and hierarchies that are planned for structural change are selected by default.........If u go to RSA1 >> Administrator Workbench >> Tools >> Hierarchy/Attribute Changes from the menu...........If u click on Infoobject List or Hierachy List.........u will find that those infoobjects r already selected.....
If u want to run ACR for some infoobjects manually.............either u can do it in RSA1..........by only selecting those infoobjects for which u want to run the ACR..........or u can also use the prog : RSDDS_AGGREGATES_MAINTAIN.........
If that Particular infoobject is not there in the Infoobject or Hierarchy List in RSA1..............that means no structurak changes r required...........no need to run ACR..........
