Can't select multiple files without them all opening.

I'm trying to move multiple files from another drive after having to have my HD replaced on a recall.  Most every time I try to select the files I want to move, every one of them opens in its own window, as well as opening programs when different types of files are selected.  I then have to close all the windows before I can move the files.  This wasn't a problem before the HD was replaced and I can't figure out what is different this time.
I've tried selecting them by clicking on the first file and holding down the shift key and selecting the last one.  This selects all of them, but also opens all of them.  I then tried holding down the Command key and selecting them one at a time,  Tedious, but still opens every one I click on.  Have tried to use the mouse to draw a box around them, but this doesn't seem to work on the Mac.
This is Mac OS X 10.6.8
Please help before I go totally nuts.  Nearly there now.
Thanks
Peg

@ vsai :
Do it properly man, I repeat,
Open gallery ---> swipe from down-----> tap on share option-----> and then select multiple files by touching them... and now tap share icon.
If you find difficulty let me know.

  • How do you select multiple recipients without having to open the contacts list each time

Just upgraded to Yosemite...not really impressed with the overall look but...can live it.  Using mail, if you did not want to send to an entire group, you could scroll through and select all the desired addresses at one time.  Now it appears that you have to click on the "plus sign", select one address, have it close then repeat the same process over and over.  Sorry, not an improvement if this is the way it is designed to work.   Any ideas on how to do this?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the input.  I am not sure why they changed the old system....is there any way to force the contact box to stay open?  Not being able to scroll down a list and select multiple selections is a big step back.  Hopefully Apple will get the message.

  • How can I rename multiple files without Automator?

Is there a way to rename a large number of files i.e. "file, file(2) file(3)" without using Automator? In Windows you can just right-click and rename any number of selected files.

Oh, I heartily agree. I bought it back at version 1.0, but not everyone around here is willing to spend money. The one I suggested that's freeware is a pretty good tool especially for casual sorts of needs. You may want to take a look at it. Not that it replaces ABFR.

  • How can I select multiple files in the Import grid view in LR4?

So far the only way I have discovered is to laboriously click the checkbox on each image I want to import. It seems that one should be able to select a range with one click (e.g. holding down Shift and then clicking the last image in the range) or by using a context (right-click) menu. No dice. What gives?

I think two differeng groups of developers on two different planets designed the Library vs the Import views -- they sure are different!!
I can answer your question because I had the same question and spent weeks clicking each individually.
First ignore the checkboxes.  Then use click, ctrl+click, shift+click to select the thumbnails (NOT the Checkboxes, which is why I said to forget them for now!!)
When you have selected what you want, find one of the selected photos and click its checkbox one way or the other, each click selects or deslects all the "selected" photos.

  • How can I play multiple files without having to click "Menu," find the ...

    ...file, click "Play," etc.?
Anyone? I have ATV2 and really like it so far. Any way to queue files?

And... if you set up playlist in iTunes you can mix media as long as you use AirPlay.
I have a Smart Playlist (Movie Night) that starts with a movie trailer (podcast), next up is a short cartoon (TV show), and then a double feature of movies I haven't seen yet.
If I pick this play list from ATV2 then only the items from the primary menu item show up (i.e. Movies, TV, etc).
However, if I watch ATV2 via iTunes AirPlay then everything flows along just like in the olden days!
    Too cool!

  • How can I close one window without closing all open windows?

If I open more than one window, I can't close just one. When I try to close just one, I'm warned that I'm about to close more than one (all of them) but I'm not told how to close just one.

Are you sure you aren't getting tabs confused for windows? If you close a window containing multiple tabs, Firefox should give you a warning that you are about to close several tabs. To close a tab do one of the following:
    * click the x at the right end of the tab (when you only have a few tabs open)
    * open the tab you want to close, then click the x that appears
    * right click the tab and select 'Close Tab'
    * open the tab you want to close and press Ctrl+W
You can close a window using Ctrl+Shift+W.

  • How do you select multiple files on a macbook pro?

Can anyone tell me how to select multiple files at one time?  I am so frustrated with the way macbook pro works that I really regret buying it.  I hate that you can't select multiple files, and that my contact stuff keeps changing.  It is certainly not like I was told...that I would never want to use a PC again.  I would not buy another apple computer.  I spent a lot of money to NOT be able to do things that I have always done with ease.  Every time I think I have something figured out, it doesn't work the next time I go to use it in another program.  If anyone has an answer to this, I would sure appreciate it.
And all of these so called wonderful updates to the operating system on all mac products have left me frustrated and liking my apple products far less than I did before.  On my iphone I had to make the texts just huge to even be able to see the white writing on a blue background.  Not sure who made these designs, but from my perspective, I can tell you they certainly weren't thinking about being user friendly in any way when they did it.  So disappointed in all of my devices!  I do not enjoy using my computer, ipad, or iphone even close to what I did before.

This is some information on the Finder.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2470
To select multiple files you can use the shift key with the mouse if they are in a contiguous list or the CMD key with the mouse if you have breaks in that list. You can also use the mouse to drag over the files you want to select.
The Macs are easy to use, I have used many versions of Windows, Linux and other operating systems and I find OS X is far the easiest, but that is me.
There are many instructional videos and texts on Apples web site and if you are near to an Apple store they do classes to help.
Hope you get used to it.

  • HT2477 How do I select multiple images without clicking on each one? Is there a way to select duplicate photos to delete them?

How do I select multiple images without clicking on each one? Is there a way to select duplicate photos to delete them?

Consider adding the delete symbol to the Finder window tool bar.  This way you can highlight all the photos you want to delete at the same time then hit the "delete" symbol.
Open a Finder window/View/Customize Toolbar - follow the directions in the customized pop down window.

  • How can I manage six email accounts WITHOUT them all appearing (twice) in the Folders column?

How can I manage six email accounts WITHOUT them all appearing (twice) in the Folders column?
All I need is ONE INBOX (like Windows Mail used to do) ...
I can see in the 'Account' column of each message which email account it's using.
Then, I either junk or read the message, followed by delete or file to one of my created folders.
As it is, half my page is depth is taken up by 12 lines of Account names !!!

That still leaves SIX lines of Account names down the side. All I want is ONE INBOX ... (I can see which account each message belongs to in the 'Account' column...)

  • Is there a way to select multiple files and initiate the Capitalize function?

I have hundreds of files all in upper case that are driving me crazy. I can select them one at a time, right click and then select Transformations/Capitalize. Is there a way to select multiple files and initiate the Capitalize function?

You could use Automator to do this - take a look at the article at http://www.wikihow.com/Batch-Rename-Files-in-Mac-OS-X-Using-Automator to see how this might be done.
    Good luck...
