Can't select 'open in camera raw...' in Bridge

I have CS3 and I just recently updated my camera raw plug-in to 4.2.  Updates have allowed me to see my CR2 files (instead of an icon) ; which was a problem before.  But now I can't select the 'open in camera raw...' function in Bridge.  The function is still listed in my 'file' menu, however it's grayed out and cannot be selected.  I'm hoping this has something to do with a setting, or at least an easy fix.  Any help or guidance on this would be extremely helpful!  Thanks!

Camera Raw 4.2? The current version is 4.6.
If you can't access the Camera Raw command from Bridge with raw files, the odds are you didn't install it correctly...since you don't bother to state your OS, we can't really help you with WHERE to place Camera Raw (and only ONE version of Camera Raw) but you should go back and double check it's in the correct place for your OS.

  • Why won't files open in Camera Raw from Bridge?

I am trying to open files in Camera raw from Bridge but get the following message.
"Bridge's parent application is not active."
Both Bridge and CS5 are open and I have opened camera raw previously.
    Any suggestions.
    Cheers

Ah this is just because I haven't fully updated my bridge yet, but the solution still works fine

The video shows replacing a current DLL file with one from last year - the key issue being that the files found in the Bridge and Photoshop folders are DIFFERENT. Why would this be?  I checked a PS CS5.1 installation myself and the files are already the same. Is there an illegitimate copy of Photoshop being used or something, causing these files to differ? -Noel

  • Can't open in camera raw in Bridge

When in Bridge, if I try to use File/open in Camera Raw, I get the follwing error message "Bridges' parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature."
It worked before: I disabled CS5 Sevice Manager earlier: would this cause my problem ? I used Adobe's own "fix" with the .dat file...

I reinstated CS5 SM and rebooted. It is running but the error message still comes up. If the file is a .dng and you use "open", it will open the file in PS camera raw but I want to open in Bridge camera raw... Any ideas anyone ? What does it mean about the qualifying product anyway ???

  • Tiff previously edited in ACR will not open in Camera RAW from Bridge

Yes, I have googled this and found instances going back to 2010 with no satisfactory answer. I have Photoshop 5.1 and the latest ACR and Bridge that work with it. 2011 MAC Mini 10.8.2.
I scanned a landscape oriented printed email image at 800 spi as a portrait orientation and saved it as a tiff. I opened this tiff in Preview and decided it needed more than minor tweaks so I opened it in ACR from Bridge, made a few adjustments and saved it. I thought I could see what I was doing better if it was in landscape orientation again so I opened it in Preview and rotated 90 deg CCW, saved it as a tiff. Going to Bridge I found Open in Camera Raw greyed out. I went back to Preview to see if I could get what I needed in its Tools while viewing it in landscape. Adjustments took forever this time, so I gave up and took a look at the image characteristics. Rotating in Preview had changed the image size to 3.3333...... times larger at 240 ppi still aRGB, still a tiff. This has never happened before, including slow adjustments
I duplicated the rotated file and changed it back to 800 ppi and normal size, went to Bridge, Camera Raw still greyed out. Original unrotated image
that had been edited in ACR and saved will still open in ACR.
All kinds of strange things have happened since updating to 10.8.2, but I don't think this is one of them because of the complaints I have seen that date back to 2010. I did a full maintenance routine, i e cleared RAM, reboot in single user with fsck -fy, repaired permissions, back up with SuperDuper which repairs permissions again. Then I tried Bridge again, original will open, rotated won't.
    Anyone know the answe?

The answer is that making edits in ACR and saving it creates layers in the tiff and Bridge will then not open it again in ACR unless you flatten it. I still don't know why Preview increased the image size by 3.333.....x or why ACR increased the tiff file size by 2.6x and why the flattened tiff is 2x the file size of the original scan but the image dimensions are the same. This stuff apparently is above the pay grade of anyone in google, too.

  • Can JPG Be Opened in Camera Raw if Not Using Bridge?

I love the flexibility that Camera Raw provides even for files that were not created as NEFs and am looking for a way to open a jpg when I'm NOT using Bridge.
Can't seem to find a menu command in Photoshop and using the Finder's  "Open With" Contextual Command doesn't show Camera Raw in its menu of applications.
    Is it possible?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hit the COMMAND key and the O key to open the menu that contains the choices you want.look at the bottom of the dialog box and you will see format. click on the arrows and you will see all your options ,including camera raw, which is the 5th choice.

  • Opening in Camera Raw from Bridge

Bridge will not longer allow me to open photo files directly into Camera Raw, saying a "qualifying" program must be open; I have Bridge and Photoshop CS 6.5 Extended open.  What else is needed????

Not sure what CS6.5 Extended is.  There is CS6 and CS5.
If you try to launch Bridge from the parent program, and still get message, it is highly likely you have an expired Adobe trial on you computer.  Find and destroy and Bridge will work.  Bridge is looking for permission from the trial.

  • Can only open some JPEG files in Camera Raw through Bridge CS3

I'm running Bridge CS3 version 2.0.0.975. I always edit my JPEG files through Camera Raw in Bridge CS3. I only have to Right-Click on the file and select "Open in Camera Raw...". However, I've come into a situation where some jpg files will not open this way; the option is not even there.
I have made sure to tick the box in preferences under Behavior "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and also tick the box under Thumbnails -> Performance and File Handling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files.
These files were originally 16bit Grayscale TIFF files, but I changed them to RGB 8bit JPEG files.
Also, I know the program works because I navigate to an older photo I worked which is a JPEG and the "Open in Camera Raw..." option is there when I Right-Click, but then I navigate back to the image I want to edit, and the option is not there.
Here are links to my screenshots of what I'm talking about. Both images in the last two screenshots are JPEG:

    Thumbnail Prefs - http://img716.imageshack.us/i/prefthumbnails.png/

When I open Photoshop CS3, then go File -> Open As and change the Format Type to "Camera Raw", the JPEG files vanish and I can only see the TIF files. When I open them, it doesn't open in Camera Raw, but rather opens like a normal file would.
That's a fundamental problem right there, and a clue in all this.  You should be able to see JPEGs in the Open As Camera Raw dialog.
What happens if you type in the name?
I'm almost convinced you have a file named .jpg but with a different image format inside.  Can you put one of these files online for others to try to open?

  • Can't open jpegs into Camera Raw from Bridge

Everytime I right click on an image to open it into camera raw I get a message telling me
Bridge's Parent Application is not Active
Bridge Requires that a qualifying product has been launched at
least once to enable this feature.
    What???
I don't get it, PS CC is open, so I would have thought that would be the parent application.  It used to do it, like until a few days ago.  What has happened?

Yep, you would think, but it is open, and it won't do it.  the only way I seem to be able to do images in camera raw is to use the camera raw filter in the PS.
It will open a raw file if I double click on it, but not if I right click and select open in camera raw.

  • Is there a way to open Adobe Camera Raw without Photoshop starting?

Is there a way to start up Adobe Camera Raw without Photoshop starting?  I think in the past it started without Photoshop starting; or did it?

If you select the image in Adobe Bridge you can choose File > Open in Camera Raw. Adobe Camera Raw will open the image using Bridge as the host application and you won't have to start Photoshop. There's no way to open Camera Raw without a host application.
If you can't find Adobe Bridge on your computer and you are a Creative Cloud subscriber, Bridge is one of the programs you can install using the Creative Cloud application.

  • No options in Bridge or Photoshop to open with camera raw

Photoshop CC 14 installed. I do not get an option to open in camera raw from bridge or from file/open in photoshop. I am trying to batch work on PSD documents from camera raw but cannot open them in camera raw.

That would be right.  You can't open PSD files in ACR.  How would ACR deal with layers, along with all the other features embedded in a PSD file?

  • When I try open a batch of files in camera raw using Bridge CS6, an error message appears.

The only work around appears to be to then choose to open these files in PhotoShop CS6. This wil then display the adjustment screen in the normal way.
Presumably this is a bug.  Any other suggestions.

I get the same thing in Mac OSX 10.7.3.  When I control-click on a preview and select 'open in camera raw' I get a dialog that says it's not enabled and requires a qualifying app to have been launched first:
I've launched bridge and photoshop and if I open an app from the mini-bridge within photoshop, camera raw is launched.

  • I cant open Camera Raw in Bridge cs6 - MAC

Hello - I'm using a Mac and use photoshop/bridge CS6. Today as i opened bridge to batch edit photos in camera raw, the "open in camera raw" option was not available to click on. It worked perfectly yesterday and now today it's not. Is there a way to fix this? help!!

You mean, you right-click a RAW file in Bridge and want to select "Open in Camera Raw" and this is not available?
Then you need to perhaps reinstall ACR.

  • Open in Camera Raw, from shell

Does anyone know what the command line for PS CS3 is so I can add an Open in Camera Raw option to JPEGs and TIFs in the windows shell?
    ie. "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Photoshop.exe" -1%
or whatever the standard open line is

Ah this is just because I haven't fully updated my bridge yet, but the solution still works fine

  • What happened to Camera Raw in Bridge CS6

What is going on with Adobe? What happened to the Camera Raw features in Bridge CS6? It was working perfectly fine in previous versions.
Working on a MAC, first sign, when I go in the AdobeBridge CS 6 drop down menu, select Camera Raw Preferences... nothing happens. Then, selecting any JPEG, right-click, no option to open in Camera Raw like before.
Should I install something to have this activate? Am I missing a piece? We just bought 10 version of hte Creative suite and we rely on Bridge a lot to work our photos, specially Camera Raw...
    Any clue, someone?

This from another post.  Hope this works.
    CAMERA RAW (ACR):
    To get to ACR:
File>open (Mac) or  open as (windows) and  pick file. Change format at bottom to Camera Raw from selection list
File>browse in Bridge,  right click or hold ctrl and click on tiff or jpg and select open in camera raw
There are also preferences you can choose under "file compatibility" to prefer ACR for supported RAW files

  • In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not avail"

In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not available"  camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.  I can open nef. in camera raw with no problem.

Hm, what I suggested might actually be a possibility then...
Close whatever version you have open first...
I think Adobe installs shortcuts for both 32 and 64 bit Photoshop in the start menu.
If you can't find the 32 bit Start menu entry, look for the 32 executable here (changing the CS version number to whatever yours is):
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe
