Can't select pixels in channels

I'm currently using photoshop cs2 and I can't seem to get it to select the pixels in my Channels. I used to be able to do this,don't know what's going on.Any ideas,maybe a setting got changed ?

What operating system are you using?
You can Ctrl or Command click on any of the channel thumbnails in the channels palette to load a selection of that channel
Or use the keyboard shortcuts shown to the right of the channel names.

  • Can't select RGB in Channels

    Please help.
    Using CS 5 - up until yesterday was able to select RGB in Channels panel separately.
    Today when I go into channels I can select Blue, Green or Red separately, but when I go to select RGB on it's own, it won't -  it highlights that and the three seperate channels.  I can turn the 'eye' icon on and off all of the others but not RGB.
    Have I locked this somehow?
    Thanks in advance.

    As far as I've noticed, that's the way it always works.

  • Moving, copying, and deleting selected pixels

    This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-76dba.h tml

    How can I completely remove selected pixels, so that there is NOT the background colour after pressing delete? I want the picture to become smaller by cutting away unneeded pixels... I already worked a bit with a regular Photoshop version a few years ago and I think there was a cutting tool which cut away the pixels without replacing them... but with Photoshop 5.0 it seems I can only select pixels and press "clear", but then the pixels are not gone, but replaced, which I do not want... how can I make them dissappear when working on a background layer? Yes, this is very basic, but sorry, I cannot find it out...

  • How can I select a channel on the RT target with a VI on the host?

    Maybe I'm trying to pound a square peg into a round hole, so please let me know if I'm abusing LV, but ...
    I'm trying to parameterize our RT VI app that deals with digital output channels.  We use the same basic VI for multiple configurations.  The only thing that changes is the channel allocations.  So for instance, actuator 1 is on port0/line5 for one configuration and port1/line2 in another.  I really don't like the idea of modifying the VI every time we have a new configuration because it makes configuration management insane.  If I make a change to the basic VI, now I have to upate N copies of the VI and hope I catch everything.
    So I'm making the main app VI read an XML configuration file that specifies all the allocations.  Sounds great at first, but how do I create the XML file?  I created a VI that manages the data in the VI, allowing the user to add/remove channels and edit the name and channel and then save it to an XML file.  The configuration is comopsed of an array of clusters, with the cluster containing the name and DAQmx channel.  My intent was to let the user select the channel from the list of valid channels by using the DAQmx Global Channel control.  But the problem is, the configure VI runs on the host, which doesn't see any of the channels because they are on the RT target.  But if I try to run the configure VI on the target, it refuses to deploy because I have GUI widgets.
    Is my approach fundamentally flawed?  Is there a better way of parameterizing our VI?  Or is there a trick to getting access to the valid channels on the host VI?  The information MUST be available because after all, when I modify a target VI and select a global channel constant, I'm doing this on the host.
    Thanks,
    Keith.

    Hi Keith,
    you can handle the channels like "normal" strings. See the attached picture.
    Hope it helps.

  • I can't seem to get GB to recognize my Behringer X1222 USB Mixer. It will record, but shouldn't I be able to see and/or select which input channel(s) that I will record from? Can I record more than one channel at a time, and record multi tracks?

    I can't seem to get GarageBand to recognize my Behringer X1222 USB Mixer. It will record, but only on the generic "USB Input, without seeing or letting me select the input channel from the mixer. Can't find any drivers from Behringer. How do I getGB to "see" the mixer? Thanks, I'm a newbie to Macs in genreal, and recording...

    the x1222 includes a 2 channel audio interface, 2 channels are all you can get from it.
    the most you can do is record to 2 tracks at a time; skim this tute to see how:

  • Automation plugin: how to select a spot channel when 2 channels have the same name?

    I have a CMYK document opened in photoshop. In "CHANNELS" panel, I just added 2 spot colors with the same name "Sport Color 1".
    As I click any of the spot channel to select it, the "Listener" plugin will output some c++ code like below:
    SPErr PlayeventSelect(/*your parameters go here*/void)
         PIActionDescriptor result = NULL;

         DescriptorTypeID runtimeTypeID;
         DescriptorTypeID runtimeObjID;

         if (ref0000000000001A48 != NULL) sPSActionReference->Free(ref0000000000001A48);
         return error;
    You can see "PutName" add the channel name "Spot Color 1" to reference, and I think it will not work correctly if I add such code to my project since PS cannot differentiate the 2 channels only by name. Can anyone tell me if there's any other method for selecting spot channel? Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Here is the something from docs tht you may find usefull.
    Tryusing index instead of name:
    SPAPI OSErr(*
    PutIndex )(PIActionReference ref, DescriptorClassIDdesiredClass, uint32 value)
    Puts an index into a reference (formIndex) along with the desired class for the reference.
    Unfortunately I dont have C++ here to try i just used definition from docs.
    Hope that this help.

  • Can't select pictures in bridge as they automatically open in acr

    I am using a macbook pro. I have a problem with bridge.  When I have downloaded my pictures with photodownloader, they appear in bridge. There is no problem with them there until I try to click on one, it automatically opens it up in camera raw. I can use the arrow keys to navigate but I have to click on one to start and go through to acr, then quit out and return to bridge. This means I can't select multiple images to edit in raw because as soon as I click on one, it opens in raw straight away.  It makes no difference if I hold down cmd, option or shift or all of them in different combinations or even all at once.
    This problem only recently started - I think maybe the latest upgrade has had something to do with it.
    It is really frustrating!!!

    Can a selection made within a photograph be independently rotated? I did an inversion of a photograph and now need to correct the angle of an object that's embedded in the photo.

    What is that you are wanting to achieve? Lightroom is a great image processor and file manager plus much more. Photoshop or Photoshop Elements while doing what you asked for does not have most of Lightroom's capabilities and hence they are designed to work in a complimentary manner. Most photographers use Lightroom for a big part of their work and just use Photoshop for complex pixel editing and working with layers, etc. from Lightroom files can be sent to Photoshop and a resultant file is returned to Lightroom which manages the whole process.

  • Muse Lightbox slideshow: Hero images are undersize & cropped, can't select to change them

    Mac, Mavericks, & Muse: First website: Building Lightbox slideshow. When a thumbnail is clicked in Preview mode, Hero image is undersized and cropped (placed jpgs are max 600 pixels x smaller). Back in Design mode, I can't select the Hero to resize it. Both  thumbnails and Hero images are set to Fit Content Proportionally.
    Any help greatly appreciated!, Thanks!

    I've had a similar-ish issue to you, minus cropping. Two key things:
    1) To edit the position or size of the hero image double-click it
    2) If the original image is smaller or larger or differently sized than the target Hero frame this (above) will happen. What I did was to
         scale the frame for the Hero image to the intended area, then get the dimensions of that area using a rectangle. Copy the vaues to make a new Photoshop document and
         manually import the images individually and save the resulting JPEGs which will have the additional space around the image to fill it for the Hero (ideally scale the image to fill the target space by losing any necessary empty space).
    Essentially the original images you're using must be the same as the resulting frame which is no good if they're all different sizes. Yeah, it's a pain.
    Hope this helps. Look at my website homepage as an example: http://www.goodwinsanimations.com/

  • Draw line between black pixel : coordinates of selected pixels ?

    Hi
    I want to build a script which can check a Photoshop file and :
    - find black pixel
    - for each black pixel, look for another black pixel within maximum distance of 5 pixels
    - then draw a line between the two black pixels.
    I wrote this script below (my first script ...), but it's VERY slow (and my final image is VERY big), I think because I test the colour for each pixel of the image.
    So another solution would be to first select black pixel with magic wand, then the script save all coordinates of selected pixels, then my script wil test only this pixels (less than 1% of the pixels are black in my image).
    Is it possible with JavaScript ?
    Thank you for your response !

    The first alert should have shown the first pathPoint.anchors for all the subPaths in the path.
    The xyArray is just something I added for the alerts. The array 'myPathInfo' should have all the info extracted from the path.
    myPathInfo.length will tell you how many subPaths are in the Path.
    myPathInfo[index].entireSubPath.length will tell you how many pathPoints are in that subPath
    myPathInfo[index].entireSubPath[index].anchor will tell you the position of that pathPoint.
    The indexes start with zero.
    The bounding box of the entire subPath can be hard to work out just from the pathPoints. Unless all the point are corner points the path may extend beyond the anchors. One think you can do is create a new path from just one of the subPaths, convert by to a selection, and then get the bounds from the selection. You can make a new path from a subPath using the 'myPathInfo' array from above.
    app.activeDocument.pathItems.add("myPath1", [myPathInfo[0]]);
    That line will make a new path from the first subPath. Change the index to use a different subPath.
    Some other info that may help.
    app.activeDocument.histogram[0] will tell you how may black pixels are in the document. But its no help determining where they are. If that returns 0 there are no black pixels.
    If you don't have any luck working with converting the original color range selection into a path and need to go back to searching with the colorSampler it may help to use a grid approach. For example make a square selection, the size depending on how scattered the black pixels are, say 25x25px. Then use color range to select black. With an active selection it will only select pixels in that selected area( if any). You could then check to see if there is a selection. If not make another same size square to the right edge of the last area. If there is a selection, the solid property will tell you if more than one black pixel was selected( unless they are right next to each other ). If solid == true the selection bounds will tell you where the pixel is. If false you have to then search that square. But if there are areas where there are no black pixels checking a square range of pixels at once should be quite a bit faster than checking every pixel. And checking the historgram first will let you know if you should bother searching to start with.

  • Selecting Pixels based on a Blend Option

    I would like to select pixels based on a blend option— Multiply, Screen, etcetera— and I have yet to find out how to do this.  For example, I use the "Filter→Render→Clouds" effect, and I want to select pixels using the Screen effect so that white pixels will be at 100% opacity and black pixels will be at 0% opacity in the selection.  A plug-in would work as well.
    My apologies if this isn't the correct board for this type of thing.

    All right— I figured something out that works good enough.
    Here is a step-by step of what I did: [Note: Click on each image for a full-sized preview]
    First, make / open an image.  Make a backup copy if you opened an image.  I rendered a cloud effect.
    Select Image → Mode → Grayscale
    Open up the Channels window.
    Create a new channel, it will automatically make it an Alpha channel.
    Select the image and paste it into the Alpha 1 channel.
    Clear the "Gray" channel to 100% black [no transparentcy] and highlight Alpha 1 and click on the select button.
    Duplicate the main layer by dragging it to the new layer button and highlight the Gray channel and go to Select→ Save Selection
    Save it as a Mask and choose OK
    Next, to to Layer→ Layer Mask→ Apply
    And there you have it! White has 0% opacity, and black has 100%!
    If you wanted it to be reversed, as white has 100% opacity, and black has 0% opacity follow these steps:
    Right click on the icon of the layer, and choose Select Pixels
    Go to Select→ Inverse
    Make a new layer and hide the layer with the black.
    Fill that layer with white.
    Took me quite some time, but I figured it out.  I thought I would share it with anyone who needs to use it.

  • Selecting pixels on the outer edge of an item?

    When making a selection with either a lasso or Magic Wand, it seems to select the item, however, when I zoom in, there seems to be lots of soft pixels on the edges of the items that are not being included in my selection.
    What is the best way to get these outer pixels that have different colors and levels of transparency?
    Thanks!

    Those pixels may be only partly selected. A selection is just a mask, which is used to limit your edits to only he masked (or selected) area. If you, for example, fill a selection with white, you are just replacing the masked pixels with white. Some pixels can be partly selected, which would result in the white fill not being completely opaque. A 50% selected pixel would end up with a 50% white fill, effectively making it 50% less bright. For example, a red pixel (255,0,0) would become pink (128,0,0).
    Photoshop’s marching ants, as they have been called for decades, can only show whether an area either is or is not selected, it can’t show the level of selection. You can view the selection as a mask by pressing Q, invoking QuickMask. Now if you zoom into the edge of your selection you will see that those pixels near the edge are partly selected.
    If you don’t want partially selected pixels, then you can turn off Anti-alias in the tool options panel at the top of the screen.
