Can't Select Slice in Fireworks

For some reason I can no longer select slices. When I click on one the content below is selected.
When I create new slices I can select them without a problem but after a while, especially after reopening the file, all slices are no longer selectable.
I can select them in the layers menu but no longer on the artboard.
Any suggestions?
This is on a Mac, Snow Leopard with Fireworks CS4.

Hi Jim - sorry I think I replied by mail instead of posting but as an update and in case anyone else has the same problem ..
It was working fine yes and then stopped. It happened on all files with pre existing slices even on very small files e.g. a single small image consisting of a single slice - irrespective of layer or page. I still have CS3 installed and that works as expected so I don't think it's any file itself but the application behaviour. As the previous poster mentioned I can delete a slice via selecting via the web layer call out and pressing delete. A new slice then behaves correctly but if I select a slice via the web layer and right click what seems to happen is that Fireworks selects the object beneath the slice and deselects the slice so that the context menu is incorrect.
I had indeed installed a music program! - I've recently bought an ipad for web testing which necessitated me installing iTunes to initiate its use. I also installed an app called music notes which stores sheet music. I uninstalled both and rebooted to no avail and a system restore failed.
This morning with a fresh eye I checked and iTunes had not uninstalled all components. After 'cleansing' all traces and a reboot all is working normally again!
Thank you so much for coming along yesterday and getting me to think wider than a bug in the manifesting product. iTunes and digital sheet music I can live without...Fireworks I can't!

Can't select multiple slices at a time

Hello,
I'm having a bit of a technical problem. I have used my slice tool several times before with no problems whatsoever. However, I recently ran into a weird problem with my slice tool. After I slice an image up using the slice tool, I am no longer able to select mutliple slices at the same time. When I select one slice, and hold down the shift key to select another slice, the other slice is just selected alone. I reinstalled Photoshop and I also reverted back to the default settings; all to no avail. I'm currently using Photoshop 7.0.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?

If i remember right, in photoshop 7, you can only select multiple slices
using the save for web function in photoshop 7 or in Image Ready.
I don't remember be able to select multiple slices in photoshop 7 proper
outside the save for web dialog.

In HTML5 version, you can click on the multi select button in the chart/slicer and this will allow you to select/deselect multiple items by simply clicking/touching it without CTRL+click. You can see this in action here

Can't select text when export in HTML and Images

I am entirely new to Fireworks and I can't find anyone to teach me Adobe Fireworks. I followed some youtube tutorials but most of them are vague. I am still figuring the way to export from Fireworks to Dreamweaver, without affecting its contents like bitmap images and the text. When I export in HTML and Images format and opened the htm file, I can't select the text I've inserted in Fireworks. Can anyone tell me what I should do?

I cant scroll below or above viewable section of text in any of my Macbooks, iMac, Mac Mini. Never have been able to, never could, except by pressing the arrow keys whilst selecting, to move up or down.

I dont have flash installed (never will do since my first virus of video ad sound running in background from Cnet was downloaded and kept returning until i deinstalled flash).
I believe that this is a universal issue because none of my Macs can scroll out of screen when selecting text, which as a webmaster and developer, is a pain in the butt

How can I get slices to save as PNG?

Up until recently, the "save selected slices" command has always saved slices as PNGs. Now suddenly it's saving them as JPEGs. What could have happened to change this, and how can I get it back to saving PNGs?

Your iPhone 5 photos are very likely good enough to include in a newsletter, even at a large size. The best thing to do is to print an example to make sure it looks good enough for you.

What new can we expect in Adobe Fireworks CS5?

so i want to ask the fireworks development team if this is really going to happen someday..Should we expect next version of the fireworks to contain all the photoshop filters and fully functional Layer styles like gradient overlay color change etc..This is such a surprise that fireworks names them as Photoshop live effects yet some of the features are not fully supported like in photoshop..One more thing where fireworks is lagging behind photoshop is its use of brushes..Is it possible that fireworks start integrating .abr brushes of Photoshop in its newer versions?IF all this happens i am dead sure people will quit using photoshop and acquire adobe fireworks as their primary web designing tool...Comments of Jim Babbagi in particular regarding this post of mine will be badly awaited...

I can understand your frustration, but FW is a graphics app first and foremost. It's got the design tools that FC doesn't have. It was never planned to be a completely interactive tool. At least we can export Fireworks objects and designs as FXG, so we can wire up that interactivity within Flash Catalyst.

Flash Catalyst doesn't have the graphics chops of software like Fireworks, Photoshop or Illustrator though. It's a tool for creating the interactivity more than it is a graphics tool. I see a fit for both.

I'm sure there will be improvements, but I wouldn't expect Fireworks to become an interactive tool like FC.

Yeah, don't get me started on THAT one. You aren't the only one disappointed about this, but who knows what cool things the future may bring.

I like red hair. Seriously, Fireworks is a tool that many people have a hard time understanding - if they've never used it before. I've heard it called Photoshop's poor cousin, or an ImageReady replacement. From my perspective, it just does so many diffferent things that people have a hard time labeling it. Macromedia never got it right - and they created the software! They spent way too much time comparing it to Photoshop. And it's not Photoshop. At least Adobe has found a useful niche for my favorite graphics app, so I will give them that much. HTH!

Trackpad useless for selecting in Adobe Fireworks...!

Hi, I've got a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro, really enjoying it after years of Windows... But in the last couple of weeks or so, I can't select items in Adobe Fireworks with the trackpad! I have to drag to select an image or use keyboard shortcuts (or select the appropriate layer) to edit it. Same with text, I can't just double click, I have to drag the text before being able to do anything with it. Zooming too, I can't hit space bar and Option button to get the zoom, all of which worked FINE until recently.
UNLESS I click the trackpad REALLY hard, which seems to be REALLY odd - especially since the trackpad works fine with all other software - nice elegant double finger scrolling, all the usual good stuff. Even in Adobe Photoshop, all its features work fine - it's JUST Adobe Fireworks (CS5), and JUST recently.
Is this a hardware issue? Is anyone else out there experiencing anything remotely similar..?!

I have this exact same problem with Fireworks (though my version is CS4), and I too am suspecting this is an Apple issue. It's intermittent - often after a restart of my machine, everything is fine again. But very recently, single clicking does not select. (Oddly, if I have tap-to-click set as a trackpad pref, and I double-tap, I can select a single item.)
I know apple screwed up the trackpad when they released changes for their magic pad - this may be yet another one of them.
I'll check the other forums to see if anyone has a solution.

thanks for that reply, after doing that I can not select this DD-view from sql-prompt anymore (which I don't wonder ;-). Can you tell me, what idea you had behind that test ?
I found another instance, where the procedure works and I will compare those privileges, but it's hard to sort out that complex structure of nested roles and sys_privs.
How ever, I will update here, when I found the missing privilege.

Can't select anything in design mode

I am new on a large Flex project, and when I go into design mode on one of the mxml files, I can't select anything. The other views work fine. Is there a lock, or something? Below is what it looks like (black mark just hides brand info). Note that there is a red line near the bottom. It is actually selectable, but it doesn't do anything. If I go to Source mode and select a chunk of code, then back to design mode, it does show it as selected.

Can not select TV speakers when connected via HDMI

I have a MBP fully updated connected to a Sony TV vis HDMI/miniport. Up until today this configuration was working fine. Suddenly, I can no longer select the HDMI speakers in my audio preferences. They are recognized and appear on the list but when I select them it has no effect. Before today, when the TV was connected the HDMI output would be automatically selected and I could not access the volume control from the menu bar, which is the way I prefer it.
I have restarted with no success in changing this behaviour. If I open/close the lid, the sound goes to the proper settings for about 2s but then the HDMI speakers are de-selected and the built-in speakers are highlighted. I can manually select the TV speakers but the setting has no effect.
However, I *am* getting audio output through the TV but can not control volume from the mac or any app. I slide the volume slider on the menu bar and the audio output does not change. The sound is also playing from the laptop speakers which is highly annoying.

and now there is no audio through the TV at all. TV works fine with other inputs such as PS3. Any help?

Can not select 'Show HD' in Finder Preferences

Just performed Data Migration on a new iMac Intel late 2011 from a 2 year old iMac Intel. For some reason, the Macintosh HD does not display on the desktop. If I go to Finder Preferences I can not select Hard Disks. The box is not selected, but If I try to click it, it will not stick. How do I fix that. Not much on the internet concering this peculiarity.

OK, try a couple of things. First is to do some resets, the first I'd recommend doing is restarting the computer in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one is corrupt. Next is to reset the SMC and PRAM, each of these should be done 2x to ensure they work. Finally if that doesn't do it open Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and Repair Disk Permissions 2x.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Can not select an address from Contacts in Maverick

I'm able to access my address book contacts from Mail.
But when Contacts window is open, I can not select a contact (For, CC, Bcc Fields are in grey).
Is there anyone with suggestions?
