Can't select text or expand text box

Hi, everyone.
I have a Page Layout document that exhibiting some odd behavior under Pages 3.0.2.
Everything is ungrouped and unlocked. "Make master objects selectable" is on, although I don't think I made any of the objects master objects.
I can't select a text box using the mouse. The only way to get at the text is to perform a find. When the text is selected via the find I then have a cursor and can manipulate the text.
Also, the plus sign handle isn't responding to the mouse, so I can't expand the box. Very frustrating.
This seems very much like a bug, yes?
-André

Hi, Jerrold.
I thought of that, too, but choosing Select All selects every object except the one giving me the trouble. Also, there seems to be no evidence of another object over laying.
Ok, I just tried something slightly different that did the trick.
When the cursor is on the background, choosing Select All does nothing (yep, nothing, even though I can type). If I purposefully select an object, THEN choose Select All, all the objects get selected, except for the "problem" one.
But I noticed a menu item called "Make Background Objects Selectable." Choosing that gave the "problem" object handles and I am now able to edit it.
It seems that Select All wasn't doing what I expected, and that was the broken link in the chain.
Thank you!!
(And a public thank you to Dennis, too. Who correctly diagnosed the problem and sent back a working file. Awesome community.)

  • Can't Select/Edit File Name Text - they go blank

Sometimes when I try to select a file name to edit it, the name disappears when I first click it. This often happens in list view. If I switch to icon view, most of the times, but not always, I can then select the file name text. Sometimes if I switch back to list view, then I can select the file name text as expected, but again not always.
It is intermittent so I can't give any consistent info on how or when it happens.
    Thanks,
    Steven

Try this. Select the file and hit the enter key. Does that highlight the name without deleting it? If so, adjust your mouse click settings and see if that fixes the problem. If not, create a new admin account, log into, and see if the problem's gone. Report back.

  • All of a sudden my podcasts are 'frozen' . . . I can't select them and the text is gray, not black.

I'm traveling and count on my iPhone 4S for entertainment. But all of a sudden my podcasts are 'frozen' . . . I can't select them and the text associated with them is gray, not the usual black. OS 6.1.3
Any ideas? I suspect a setting somewhere, but can't find it or figure it out.
The podcasts on my laptop respond and play just fine.
    Thanks for any help.

On the padcast playing screen on the right side below the scrubber bar is the playback speed icon.  It can say 1/2X, 1X or 2X, those are the playback speeds. Tap the icon to change speeds.

  • Can't select buttons to change text

I set up chapters in I-Movie and exported the project to I-DVD.
When I go to a chapter screen it will highlight the lower right button and allow me to change its text, button shape etc., but I cannot access the other buttons to change text.
I tried changing the mouse click speed as instructed, no luck.
I tried changing the the chapter titles in I-Movie but that only posted the top text line.
Any ideas as to why I can't select these chapter buttons to change text?

This is what I had to do to change text on buttons.
I could only change the text on the lower right chapter button.
Then moved the button up, left, whichever, to cause a new button to fall into the "prized" lower right spot. I could then change the text on that button. So on and so forth.
The major problem is that the buttons, now with the correct text, are all out of order. It now became some kind of torture to find the right combo of moves to get the buttons back in the same order. I'd advise saving backup if you decide it's not worth the work.
For transitions I used the "select all button" option in "Edit" to avoid the torture test.
Once this project is done I'm reloading IDVD but maybe this will help somebody in the meantime.
    Good luck

  • In Acrobat XI, how can I select and move multiple text/image blocks simultaneously on the same page?

I work with student-generated PDFs that require all content to be within a specific margin range. Occasionally tables and figures are indented or otherwise spaced incorrectly so that the content violates the margin requirements. In Acrobat X, I could use the select tool to draw a select box around all of the text and lines within a table, for example, and just slide the entire table over a bit to meet the requirements without sending the PDF back to the author for a correction. This didn't always work, but often enough that I was able to use it on a daily basis.
Is there a way to select multiple (but not ALL) text blocks and image pieces on a page, so they may be moved simultaneously? If I have to select every text block and line (or every point and line within a graph) and move them each individually, this is going to be a nightmare.
I have Acrobat XI for both Mac and Windows, but tend to use the Windows version more often.

Hey, I'm using Acrobat XI and I can't multi select like I use too do with shift as always. Now I get a green note every time I want to multi select with shift + click as always. I also use Pitstop and I get the same green notes.
    Can someone help me ?

  • In edit mode, can't select specific options in combo box

I need to edit options in a combox box.  When I click on the option I want to edit, it's actually reflected in the combo box, but the option I selected doesn't stay highlighted for editing. The highlight jumps to a different option. This is consistent, but not all options jump.  I can't edit many of the options. Using Acrobat 9 Pro.
    Any suggestions?

try67 says..."It's not necessary to use Acrobat 5 to edit form fields. Acrobat 9 can do it just fine."
For the most part, A5 and A9 field editing process is the same.  Editing the combox box properties is EXACTLY the same. Open the combo box field properties, select the options tab. Click on the option you want to change. The text shows up in the upper window. Edit the text. Save the edited option. It goes to the bottom, Then run it up to where it goes in the list and delete the prior option.   In Acrobat 9 (on two machines in our office) the item you click on does not stay selected. The job at hand has a list of 33 options, some stay selected, some do not and are impossible to select...even to delete.
In Acrobat 5, this same process works perfectly.
I'm quite sure that anyone serious (aka trying to make money) about Acrobat production keeps a copy of A5 on hand.  Try setting tab order in V9 on a 900 field form that requires a mix of column and row ordering. Then go to the window at the left and pick a field and try to run it up to where it goes. The window doesn't even scroll.  You have to set your field down, scroll the window and pick it up and go another jag. And then, scroll back down and try to find your place to pick up the next field. In A5, you simply click the fields on the form in the order you want them.  10 minutes vs. 2 hours.
    This is not "just fine".

  • Expanding Text Glossary Terms into Popup windows

I am using RH6 and I have a help project that uses expanding
text glossary terms throughout all the topics. When the topic is
printed out, the glossary terms are auto expanded and it disrupts
    the flow of the text.
    My questions are:
Is there a way to quickly change expanding text glossary
terms to just popup hyperlink windows?
If not, how can I find all the expanding text glossary terms
using the Multi Find and Replace?
Can they be searched for in a Report?

There's another way. Enclose your glossary definitions in
brackets [a means of enclosing text] so that the definition does
    not interrupt the flow.

  • Select each page's text frame in one shot and resize them

Hello, I want to make a 400 page text book. How can I select each page's text frame in one shot and change their size simultaneusly? (each text frame has same size per page)

Make a backup copy of the file incase something goes wrong, then:
Make sure the frames snap to the margins on all sides -- change the margins on the applied master page to achieve this, if necessary.
Enable Layout Adjustment (Layout > Layout Adjustment...)
On the master page change the margins to be the size you want the new text frame dimensions to be.
If, for some strange reason, you don't want to use these margin settings in the layout, turn OFF layout adjustment and reset them on the master page again to what you want.

  • Can not select 'Show HD' in Finder Preferences

Just performed Data Migration on a new iMac Intel late 2011 from a 2 year old iMac Intel.  For some reason, the Macintosh HD does not display on the desktop.  If I go to Finder Preferences I can not select Hard Disks.  The box is not selected, but If I try to click it, it will not stick.  How do I fix that.  Not much on the internet concering this peculiarity.

OK, try a couple of things. First is to do some resets, the first I'd recommend doing is restarting the computer in  Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one is corrupt. Next is to reset the SMC and PRAM, each of these should be done 2x to ensure they work. Finally if that doesn't do it open Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and Repair Disk Permissions 2x.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • After placing a new text box in my document, typing new text, clicking away, then coming back to edit the text, I am unable to get my cursor to reappear within that text box. I can only select the box itself. I cannot select the text. Where is my cursor?

After placing a new text box in my document, typing new text, clicking away, then coming back to edit the text, I am unable to get my cursor to reappear within that text box. I can only select the box itself. I cannot select the text. Where is my cursor?

    Even simpler than that.
Clicking once in a text box selects it.
Clicking once in a selected text box places the insertion point in the box.
The clicks do not need to be close enough in time to be read as a double click.
The same behaviour applies to table cells in Pages and in Numbers.

  • Expanding Text Boxes

I don't know if this question is buried in some other place on the Muse site but I can't seem to find the answer to this.
I am creating a site for a class I'm teaching and I would like to create a series of text boxes on a Master page, each one separated by headers or images.  However, each one of the child pages created from this Master will have different amounts of text in any given text box. For instance, Lesson #1 would have sections for Lesson, Homework, Handouts and the like, each one separated by a graphic or header for that section.  Another page -- let's say,  Lesson #2 -- would have the same sections and identical separating graphic, but different amounts of text in each of the text boxes.  The same for Lesson #3, Lesson #4, etc.
Unless I'm missing something, it seems like there is no way to make a text box which varies in size from child page to child page.  If I need to create most of the elements on the page from scratch for each child page, what is the value of the Master page, aside from a very few repeatable elements?
Is there something I'm missing here?
    Norman

A colleague of mine pointed out to me that if a user fills out the form using Apple's Preview application, if the form is then viewed in Acrobat/Reader you will get the behaviors you describe of not seeing the entered text unless the field is selected and of the text boxes printing blank.
This behavior may be true for other none Acrobat/Reader pdf clients as well.

  • Expanding text boxes to multiple pages

I have a dynamic form with expanding text boxes that I originally designed on one page.  As I put in the needed items it was clear to have it fit I would need to go to a second page to have everything needed.  When it is the first page alone the preview pdf works properly automaticallly moving the overflow to the next page.  When the second page is inserted to finsih the form the areas not fitting on the first page when typed into the preview fall off into space and you can no longer see them.  I've treid moving around the heirarchy and have not figured it out.  Does anyone know hoi to fix this?  Is it possible to have a 2 page dynamic form that expands?

Sorry I have been on vacation and in Europe for a week so I was not able to get to this before I left.
The root subform (Page level) must be set to flowed if you want it to act the way you want. When doing that you can ignore the need to add the 2nd page and allow the product to break the page where it is needed. I modified your form so it would do this. Note that there is no Page 2 and I added some additional subforms to break up different parts of the form (Headers and unnamed subforms). It is good practice to name your subforms and if you do any code that was added may need to be adjusted to take into account these additional structural changes.
Please find attached the modifed sample.

  • How do I use Javascript to populate a text field based on a selection from a drop down box?

    Greetings,
I have virtually no experience with JavaScript and I am trying to figure out how to add some basic automation features to an Adobe form.  I have a drop down box called "Hospital_Name" that will contain approximately 7 possible selections.  When the user makes a selection, I would like to have the text field (called "Hospital_Address") below the drop down box populate with the corresponding address for the selection.  I have the "Hospital_Address" text field configured for multiple lines and would like the address to have a line break between the street address and the city/state/zip.
For example, if the user selected "Hospital 1", the text field would display:
    123 Main St
    Anytown, CA 12345
Any help or examples you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

You have the element names within the object within brackets.
Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
// Place all pre-population data into a single data structure
    var Location = {
    "--Hospital--":{ line1: " ", line2: " " },
    "Bellevue Medical Center":{ line1: "2500 BMC Drive", line2: "Bellevue, NE 68123" },
    "CHI Bergan Mercy":{ line1: "7500 Mercy Road", line2: "Omaha, NE 68124" },
    "CHI Immanuel":{ line1: "6901 N. 72nd Street", line2: "Omaha, NE 68122" },
    "CHI Lakeside":{ line1: "16901 Lakeside Hills Court", line2: "Omaha, NE 68130" },

    console.println(I);
    // end debugging code;

        this.getField("AddLine1").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line1;
        this.getField("AddLine2").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line2;
This is not a beginners task but requires a fair amount of knowledge about the structure of objects, defining strings, and structure of arrays.
Are you sure you have all the field names correctly spelled and capitalized?
Do you get any error in the JavaScript console?
Just trying the line that defines the "Location", I get the following error:
    SyntaxError: invalid property id
    1:Console:Exec
    undefined
All the form field in a PDF are processed by using JavaScript and any error in any script will stop JavaScript processing.
It might help to have a link to the problem form.
Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.

  • Design View - Can't Select Text, Only Divs

This is a page I did not build, and I hope I can describe this properly. Here's the published page -
    www.wheeltime.com
I'm in CS4 and there are two things going on when trying to edit in design view. The first is I can't select text of content. Clicking to select said content, say a line of text or a word, selects and highlights the entire div container and all the content within in one big chunk. Why is DW not letting me select the actual content? This is the first time I've enver encountered this issue.
This is the same for all the div ontainers on the page. But another, perhaps related problem, has to do with this content area. In design view, there's a fixed height, so not only can I not select the content, but I can't see it all. It's OK in the browser, expands as it should. I've looked at all the properties anywhere and don't see any height attribute anywhere, especially those that enclose this area of content.
One this that has be wondering - this content area is warpped in a "main-content" div, with a class applied. But this div has no corresponding entry or properties in the style sheet. I can see where a div can be used that has no specific properies of it's own, but is it OK to not be mentioned at all in the style sheet? And can this affect what's going on in design view editing?
So, I guess the question is - what is governing this inability to edit in Design view?  Thank you in advance!!

Have you tried double clicking the content?
I'm not sure what causes this exactly, but I downloaded your page and ran it in my DWCS4. It did the same thing until I double clicked the content of the divs. That allowed me to select it without issue from that point on.
It may have something to do with the content being wrapped in <span> tags within each <div>.
Onto your other question, your <div id="main-container"class="container"> is being affected by the .container class in your style.css file rather than a #main-container id.
EDIT: HTML id's like <div id="main-content"> serve to identify elements for many purposes, not just css. There is no problem with giving an element an id simply for organizational purposes, though usually they are used as targets for javascripts, css or php scripting purposes.
