Can't Send Email to Address Book Group

First time trying to create a group in Address Book and send the members an e-mail. Looks like the group is set up properly in Address Book, but I can't e-mail to the group.
When I enter the group name in "To:" in a new e-mail in Mail, the name disappears when I hit Enter or move hte cursor to the right. I have to click in the field to the right just to get the group name to stay in the field.
When I send the message I get this back: "This message couldn’t be sent because the following internal error occurred: This message couldn’t be sent because you haven’t specified any recipients."
I can manually address the email to the individual group members, but why isn't Mail adding the group members as recipients when I enter the group name?
I'm running OS X 10.7.3. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I, too, have had "When sending to a group, show all member addresses" checked since forever. I have just tried creating a group (or "Folder," actually, since it's in an Exchange account) of contacts and sending email to it. If I create a new message in Mail and start typing the group name, it auto-completes. But if I click the offered compltion, or type TAB, COMMA, or ENTER, the group name disappears from the "To:" box and there are no recipients.
If I right-click the name of the group in Address Book and pick 'Send mail to "(group name)"' a new email message composition window appears, but there are no recipients.
Hold the phone ... I just deleted the first member from the group, then re-added him. Now it partly works. I can 'Send Mail to "(group name)"' from Address Book, and I can drag the group into a recipient field (but I must then "Expand group" to see the addresses in Mail). But still, if I type the group into a recipient field, I get nothing.

  • Installed Thunderbird on New drive but can't transfer emails and address books drom old drive to new PC.

I have a computer I built that my dad who uses Thunderbird for his email. We had to remove the C: drive, which was a SSD drive because it was running out of space and replaced it with a Western Digital Veloci-Raptor 500GB drive. I am not familiar with Thunderbird and did not export his emails or address book before I switched the drives. I have set his new Thunderbird account to keep the mails on the server and not the PC. How can I get the old emails and address books from the old hard drive. I did copy the Thunderbird folder from the C: drive and the folder on the E: drive that Thunderbird was installed to. I have read many forums on how to move emails and address books to or from Thunderbird but non are like my situation. Hoe can retrieve the emails and address books from the previous install and transfer them over to the new PC once I have done a reinstall?

first the old drive... the location varied between windows versions but it is either in Application data or appdata. In vista and above open the roaming folder. Both are hidden folders so you need to show hidden files and folders in Windows. Within that you will find a Thunderbird folder.
The sub folders of that are the profiles, but simply copying the Thunderbird folder over it's like in the appdata\roaming of Vista and above will replace the existing with the old.
Copy the actual profile in the folder called profile XXXX.default xxxx being a random string will place two profiles on the hard disk which can be opened individually using the profile manager. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager
Finally individual folders of mail can be moved using the import export tools. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ You just need to locate the data. Folders are a file with no extension and another with the same name and an MSF extension. They are in sub folders of mail in the profile.

  • Thunderbird can't send email to addresses in Address Book because of formatting error

My Thunderbird can't send email to an address picked from the Address Book. It gives the following error:
"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.1 <"name@telconame"@telco.com> Unknown recipient. Please check the message recipient "name@telconame"@telco.com and try again."
You can see that Thunderbird has garbled the name/address pair: "name@telconame"@telco.com" so that it's unworkable.
If I type the email address by hand, it sends the email OK. But it can't retrieve an address from the Address Book without garbling the name/address pair. Win 7, TBird Version 32.0; it's the same in SafeMode.
    Any ideas?

Make two Address Book entries for him; one for each of his e-mail addresses. Make a new Address Book group and put both of his entries in it. When you send him an e-mail just type in the name of the group in the To: field.

  • Can't send email to an icloud group in address book

    Hi
I have set up some groups in icloud. I called one of these groups "Test", with only myself as a group member. In address book, when I right click to send email to "Test", it fires up a new email with the word Test in the email "to" field. If I try to send the email I get the error message "Test" doesn't seem to be a valid email address. It doesn't seem to be filling in the group email addresses in the "to" field.
Am I doing something wrong?, or is this a known or unknown bug?
I have other groups set up but I obviously don't want to send test emails out hence the test group "Test"
Also when I edit the distribution list and right click the group name, "send email to "Test" is greyed out.
    Many thanks in advance

  • Can't open an archived address book group after emailed

The only way i know to email a group in the address book is to archive it. How do you open it after you receive it thru email.

You don't need to archive it. For one thing, an archive will replace the entire contents of your address book when you double-click on it.
You only have to drag the group to an open email message or onto the Mail icon in the dock. You can also drag it to a folder on the mac to create a vCard of the group.

  • Add only one contact email in address book group

I created a contact group in address book and added some people I knew to it.  However some of my friends have multiple email address.  (like JohnMarino @gmail and JohnMarino@yahoo). Can I limit the contact to only the one email I would like to send it to?

Yes, as long as you keep your contacts "On Your Mac." Use the "Edit Distribution List" feature in AddressBook to select the address that should be used for the group. If you use iCloud for your contacts, the option is not available. Hasn't been since the intro of Lion.
There are other compromises to get it to work with Lion, but they are clumsy and generally result in multiple contact listings.

  • Bcc question & default email in address book group

2 questions (i use gmail imap through the mac mail application):
i sent an email with a large list of people in the bcc field. how do view the list of people who were blind copied?
i have smartgroups set up in my address book. i sent an email to a group prior to defining the default email for my contacts with multiple email addresses. which address did the email go to?
    thanks for your help!

First make sure that there is a check next to the Bcc field in the "View" menu to indicate that it is active. Then go into your "Sent" folder and open the message. Click once in the Bcc field and you can scroll through the list with the arrow keys on the keyboard.
There are two ways to find out to which address you sent an E-mail. Open the sent message and click and hold on each of the individual names. A window will pop up and a check mark will be next to the default address for that person. You can also open the Address Panel, select the group, command-click on the addresses that you want (or just select them all) and the address that is highlighted is the default address for each person. Note: The second option will only work if you have not changed the default address for any of your contacts.

  • Can't delete email AND address book changes randomly

As of yesterday I can highlight an email, hit delete but it doesn't go to the trash. I'll check my 2nd account, go back to the first account and all deleted messages are there. Plus, it will run continuously. Currently it says it is sorting. NEVER had this problem before and need help.
Secondly, my address book will randomly change the card names. I can go in, correct, save, close and the next time I open the address book some of them will be different. For instance one card is titled "Lexington". It has changed to "Lexington Lexington" several times or it will pick up the name of the last person in Lexington and show up as "Lexington Lastinger"

What sort of email account is this, POP or IMAP? What version of Mac OS X are you running; your profile says 10.3, but if that's true, then you're way behind the times and in the wrong forum. We need accurate information in your profile, so you need to update that.
Secondly, my address book will randomly change the card names.
No, this is not random. Mail and Address Book communicate, so when you receive an email from someone in your Address Book, if the name doesn't match the email address for that card, it is updated with the name in the email address.

  • Can't import email or address book from Outlook Express

I mounted a hard drive from my old (DEAD) computer.
I tried to import my email files.
I pointed Thunderbird to the folder containing all of the Outlook Express *.dbx files
It shows no files and imports nothing.
I discovered after an hour that I could drag and drop my Dave.wab address book into the Windows Contacts file, where Win7 extracted the contacts. They could then be imported into Thunderbird.

For importing the dbx files, see this page:

  • Can't send email - IP address blocked

Up until yesterday everything was fine.
Then, when I tried to send an email I got:
"An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting:  *** Blacklisted at zen.spamhaus.org ***".
Checked my IP address and yes, it was listed as blocked.
Turned the router on and off to get a new IP address - same problem.
Reset the router - same problem.
    I am using Thunderbird v36.1.0
I have not installed any new programs.
I have not changed any settings.
Called BT helpdesk but they were just a frustrating waste of time.
    Any ideas please?

Well magically today, the Group Name populated itself with the recipients' email address when I tried sending it again. Perhaps it was an iCloud issue. I still can't access "Edit Distribution List' under the AB Edit menu though.

  • Sending an email to a 250 person address book group.

I am trying to send an email with a picture attached to a group from my address book using Mac Os X mail. It will not send when I click the send button. There are 250 people in the address book group. Is there a limit to the size of group that OS X mail will send to?
when i remove the group and send to 2 individual contacts, it sends right away...help.

Not sure that there is one in today's world of spamming - frankly, I'm glad my ISP and/or web email hosting service et al have these in place.
This is what I do for any emails which need to be sent to more than about 10 - 15 people:
I prepare an email with attachments if necessary and have my address book open. I start inserting email addresses in the BCC field until I reach a certain number. I open a new message window, paste in the email, and work on the next 50 or so. I do this until I've enough emails to cover every recipient I want to send this to. I then send one or more emails, wait about 2 hours, send more, etc, etc - you get the idea.
Also, be advised: Comcast has told me that they watch the activity; although they do not have a maximum in my case, if they feel that you could be a spammer by the number of emails and recipients, they may not allow the usual port for you to send email through and you will get errors.

  • How can I send email to my entire address book to notify of new

    Moved to new house.
    Old DSL gone.
    New Cable Modem.
Want to notify my large entire Apple Address Book of contacts of change of email address.
Used to be a notify preference in Address book?  No longer there.
Also, when I paste my addresses into an email via Address Book plug in, message completes but server ultimately doesn't send.
What's a good way to do this?

    Hi,
In Address Book (for Lion at least), open the File menu and select 'Send Updates...'.
    Best wishes

  • Can't Send Email to a Group

Trying to send an email to groups I created in address book.  Opening a new email and typing group name brings up the group but it doesn't populate with emails.  I right clicked on the group to create an email and again, created the email but no email addresses in the to field. I created a test group with one email (mine) and it works fine.
I checked all the contacts in the groups that didn't work and none are corrupted or problematic as far as I can tell.  What to do?

I have the same question.  Where is the "silhouette" in the email?  It has taken me multiple tries to create a group that I am able to send an email to.  However, not everyone in my address book "group" shows up when I type in my group name in an email.

  • How can I copy the contents of an address book group

Does anyone know how I can copy the entire contents of an Address Book group and paste the results into an e-mail to send to others? When I select the group and then the "copy" tool, it copies only the first address in the group. If I select "select all", it selects all e-mail addresses everywhere, not just the ones in the intended group.

He did not want to add them all to his address book; he simply wanted to have my long list of staff email addresses without having to type it or create it himself, like this: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. We used to use an email application called Eudora which allowed you to copy and paste group lists as though they were just text characters. With Mail (and Address Book), everything is connected to everything else and a group list is actually a set of flagged contacts from your "All Contacts" list.

  • How can I send emails to a group in IOS 8

I have set up a number of Groups in my iCloud contacts. I can send on my MacBookPro. How do I select them in IOS8 on my iPhone or iPad?
    This is driving me crazy!

    Hi
You will need an app to do this, there are several on the App Store that can help (although most require you to use their own app to send the email.)
MailShot Pro lets you create and manage special contacts that contain all the email addresses in a group, so you can use them directly from Mail and thousands of other compatible apps, just as though the ability to send group email was built in. You can turn an address book group into a MailShot group quite quickly.
Try it on the App Store to see if it meets your needs
There is a (limited) free version available to try on the App Store, too.
