Can't send email using Thunderbird
I've been away from home for a few days and have been using BT Yahoo mail on my netbook without any problems. Now that I'm back home I've logged back on to Thunderbird which is my usual email program and, although I can receive emails, am unable to send them.
Please has anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing this? I get the following when I click on Send:
<Cannot send message due to possible abuse; please visit http://postmaster.yahoo.com/abuse_smtp.html for more information.>
Val Rice
Its a problem with Yahoo. It seems that someone in their spam filter team decided that anyone with a reply-to field must be a spammer. Admittedly domestic users shouldn't need to use a different reply-to address, but they should have done a simple test that a reply-to address that is identical to the sender address is OK.
So you need to remove the "reply-to" field from Thunderbird
Click on "Tools"
Click on "Account Settings"
Click on the name of your account
Delete the content of the "reply-to" field. It will revert to greyed out text.
If you have mulptiple identifties on one account, then you need to click on "Manage Identities", then for each identity click edit and delete the "reply-to" for each identity.

Can't send emails using Thunderbird
My daughter is trying to send an email to a sick friend and although she is receiving e-mails ok, she cannot presently send them. This is not a problem she has had before.
She is getting a pop-up message that says "Connected to mail.btinternet.com...." but then nothing happens. Although she has switched off, and then back on again, trying everything she can think of, that message box comes up and then appears to freeze. The green progress bar is full green from left to right, but the message stays unsent.
I must be having a senior moment as despite all that I have tried I can't figure out what to try next.
Any thoughts anyone?
Regards,
Alan
Solved!
Go to Solution.Fairly obvious I suppose, but 'Genius'! I went to the link in your e-mail, changed to the ports suggested, added the existing password when required, and would you believe it, everything worked as it should.
The port settings in my daughters Thunderbird client had worked ok before, so I don't understand why they didn't work this time, but hey ho, it works fine now with BT's suggested settings, so problem solved.
Many, many thanks for resolving my 'senior moment'. As the e-mail was important to my daughter I managed to get to bed at 1.30am, but it might have been later if it had not been for your immediate response to my cry for help at such a late hour. Thank you again!!!

How can I send email using two different email address that both link back to my one exchange account on my Ipad mini?
On my PC I simply have a master return email address and use a POP for the secondary address. Both are through the one exchange account without a problem. I need to be able to do the same on my Ipad.Ah, I should have made that clear. My domain didn't come from google. It was purchased at and is hosted at dreamhost, but I haven't used their email servers in years - I just route everything through gmail. I actually have a bunch of domains (with websites).
Gmail has an option that lets someone with custom domains send (and receive) email through gmail using the custom domain once Google confirms proper ownership of the domain (to prevent spammers and such). Gmail has a setting for "send email as" which allows gmail to be sent using a custom domain as the sender. I'm pretty sure Apple's old mobileme had this feature too, but I didn't use it. -
Can't send email using wifi. Spent 30 min troubleshooting with my email service provider who finally told me to contact Apple.
It doesn't work when I can't get 3G, whether at home or overseas. Receives no problem, and 3G works fine when it's available.Maybe it is a 3GS. Anyway, I get the error that the network is not responding, and to check my settings. My ISP is Uniserve (Canada) but I am trying to use Telus (at home, where there is no 3G in my neighbourhood) or whatever is available as I travel eg. US or Europe for outgoing mail when 3G is not available. My husband has no problem with his iphone 4 when he sends email the same way usinf wifi.

Can I send email using my own domain address with iCloud the way I can with gmail?
Let's say I own mydomain.com and have a [email protected] email account. I have set that up to forward to gmail, and that would be easy to switch to iCloud. Here's the tricky part: gmail allows me to send email as [email protected] I've been doing this for years and it works, but I'd like to switch from gmail to iCloud. Can I set up this same behavior with an iCloud @me.com address (which I already have but haven't been using yet)? I know I can obviously switch the forwarding of incoming mail to my @me.com address... but can I send [email protected] email through iCloud the way I can with gmail? All of my devices are Apple: a Mac Mini using Apple's Mail app, and an iPhone and an iPad both using the Apple email app, so I'd rather switch everything over from gmail to iCloud.
P.S. Awe, c'mon Apple. Don't turn those fake addresses into links. I just used them for the sake of giving an example.Ah, I should have made that clear. My domain didn't come from google. It was purchased at and is hosted at dreamhost, but I haven't used their email servers in years - I just route everything through gmail. I actually have a bunch of domains (with websites).

Can't send email using yahoo through apple devices, any ideas?
I cannot send an email using yahoo through any of my Apple devices, although email sent get through. It states "connection to the outgoing server ' apple.smpt.mail.yahoo.com' failed.
Does anyone know how to restore?I am sorry that I cannot help you but I am having a similar problem. I can rec/send email but my email is duplicated and a pop up says that my server is not responding. I have spent most of the afternoon trying to get it corrected. I finally decided to take it to my Apple store next week.
Good luck to us! -
I cannot send email using 3G with the new ios5. I have iphone4s
I use cox here in new orleans, and it works fine - I upgraded my 3GS last Monday, and have been using since then. I just tried to send an email to see if there was something going on with Cox, and I was able to send it.
Do you want my settings? ( I do use pop.east.cox.net, so it could be something wrong with another server).

I can't get or send emails using Thunderbird.
I'm in Mexico. I'm able to send and receive emails just fine through my two accounts at home in the US. But here in Mexico, with my Verizon account, I can't send or receive messages (though I can do both just fine by going to their website). Also, with my 1and1.com account, I can receive messages using Thunderbird but I can't send them (though, again, both work fine by going to the 1and1.com website).
When I try to send a message using the account that works for receiving them, I get an error message saying my login failed. But my login is fine.
I'm hearing that ports are blocked here in Mexico but haven't gotten any results by calling 1and1 or Verizon to fix this. Anybody know what I can do to use Thunderbird here for my email?
Thanks!Right. Sorry -- I've loaded the Verizon one below. You're making me realize that I actually get two separate responses from the two accounts 1) the Verizon one just times out (see below) and 2) the 1and1 account send me the password error message.
For both accounts, I can go to the providers' websites and things work fine there.
Here's the troubleshooting info below -- I can't seem to upload it in any easier-to-read format. Let me know if you need something different, please.
Thanks for your help with this.

Satellite P200-10O: Can't send emails using Vista Windows Mail
Can any one help.
I have a Satellite P200-10O, with Vista installed. In Win Mail i have set up my email accounts as normal.
When i open Win Mail i can click send and receive and it searches for new messages, this can be repeated as often as you like. However when i create a new message and click send it stops working. The message goes into the outbox, if i open it in the outbox and click send, nothing happens, after a while of trying every thing freezes up. If i then close the program and re open it will send the message but then sometimes the send and receive doesn't work until you close and re open. Also the message counters do not up date.
I have tried everything i can think of, Vista forum, ISP, Toshiba. So far no joy although i will be getting back in touch with Toshiba again. Message is set to send immediatley.
No virus or firewall is being used.
Cheers
1stopcarpHi buddy,
why are you making yourself such problems?? Why dont you use Mozilla Thunderbird which is faster, reliable and has better functions then this Vista Mail thingy??
I use Thunderbird now for some years and I love it. Its better than outlook and has so many functions which make the work a lot easier.
If I were you I would check the following link a thinkabout:

Re: Can't send emails with Thunderbird
I’ve had an intermittent problem with sending and replying to emails with Thunderbird, and now it never does. I'm still running Tiger (10.4.11) on Mac so can't update to Thunderbird version 3 (and do I need to?). Could the problem be there? Not changed any settings or passwords. It asks again for the password then the message is: 'Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server smtp.orangehome.co.uk for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct.' I've checked, and all seems OK on the server. Any ideas folks? Cheers in desperation!

I can't send email in Thunderbird and I have tried all suggested fixes I can find!
I moved Thunderbird from my old MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro (I have done this before with no problems).
I updated Thunderbird on both laptops before I did this - to version 31.0
The new machine's running Mavericks 10.9.4
I started to notice intermittent problems with sending email - this seemed to free up when I opened up my BT email account (the account that 'feeds' Thunderbird) and then resent the email in Thunderbird.
This 'fix' has now stopped working and all I continually get when trying to send is the message:
'Send Message Error
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.btinternet.com failed.
The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.' (etc.)
I checked with both Mozilla and BT forums/help pages, then went to Thunderbird>Tools>Account settings>Outgoing Server(SMTP)>Edit
I then changed the settings to those recommended by both BT and Mozilla:
Server Name: mail.btinternet.com
Port - 465
Security - SSL/TLS
Authentication - normal password
User Name - (my user name)
I also tried many variations (including the original settings)
Server Name: mail.btinternet.com
Port - 587
Security - none
Authentication - password transmitted insecurely
User Name - (my user name)
I tried deleting my password and then doing the above all again.
I tried turning the router off and back on and doing the above all again.
Nothing - apart from not being able to send email Thunderbird's working fine with incoming, I really think I've tried everything I can. Can I delete my prefs - will this help? Is there anything I've missed? I've wasted 4 hours and it feels like 4 days!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Error message as above and below:
'Send Message Error
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.btinternet.com failed.
The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.' (etc.)
BT won't deal with this - they redirect me to a 'partner' who want to charge to discuss the problem. Nice, eh! -

Can't send email using Windows Mail (Vista) through Anonymizer proxy server
I have recently installed a new version of Anonymizer which I need for access to a particular forum, but when it is connected I cannot send email. The message I got from Anonymizer support is as follows:
Anonymizer Universal blocks unencrypted mail port 25 to prevent abuse of our service by spammers. If you have an email address set up to use port 25, please contact your mail administrator to use an alternate port. We have found email providers prefer certain ports including 587 and 465. These ports generally require authentication and you may need to change your outgoing mail server to require authentication.
I tried these port numbers but they also gave errors. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.I found the thread on port 587 and I followed the advice on the link for Outlook Express.
http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Email/Setup+And+Use/QuestionsOne/124306.htm
Windows Mail is slightly different but when I set the outgoing port to 587 without requiring authentication, and it seems to be working OK now. So I'll mark this as solved. This seems to be a major issue since November and it should be in the FAQs and easy to find with a search. -
Receive but can't send emails using Outlook Expres...
Is anyone else experiencing this again ?
OE leaves my mail in the Outbox and BT Mail will not accept them on a send/receive. Also still experiencing password rejection problems everytime I send/receive. If I cancel instead of trying again. It receives my mail but will not send it.
Any ideas please ?
Thanks..............
Spoiler (Highlight to read)I suspect you will all ready have done this because you were previously sending emails but it might be worth doing it again in case there has been a glitch in the system.
Verify the non BT email address. See this link.
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10903/kw/reset%20BT%20Yahoo%20Password/c/346,412,416/...
I think you also need to ensure that you have ticked the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" - and you need to use "Log on using" and enter the BTinternet email address/password you've used to verify the Non BT email address.
