Can´t send email while travelling

While travelling in Brazil, where Apple-users are a small minority, we have three times had difficulty connecting to the Internet. Once, in a shopping mall, we couldn´t even get in, but at a club and at a hotel we could browse the Internet and read email, but not send any.
Any ideas what could be going on?

The problem is that if your using the smtp server that you use at home this is normally provided by your ISP therefore is wont work on somebody elses connection unless they have the same isp as you.
The other issue is that if you are using an independent smtp server that may work on some internet connections but the trend for isp's is to block port 25 and only allow connection on that port for their own smtp server.
The way round this is get an smtp account with someone who runs their mail server on port other than 25.
googlemail, gmail and mobileme mail all use different ports than 25 if configure to use ssl and therefore get around this issue.
The trick that I have used in the past to send a mail on a a connection in a coffee shop or hotel is to goto http://whatismyip.com then open the terminal and issue the host command
host 2.2.2.2
and
whois 2.2.2.2
replace 2.2.2.2 with ip that whatismyip reported. Then you should find out the name of the isp. The google for that isp's smtp server

  • Can't send email while traveling

We live in Texas.  My dad is traveling in Hawaii.  His new iPad 2 worked fine here.  He gets there and he can't send email (over hotel wifi - he does not have the 3G turned on).  Does he need to turn data roaming on or something?  Is there a setting change he needs to make?

As long as he has access to Wifi and is connected, his email should work.  No need to change port settings.  He might want to reboot his iPad and try his mail application again.  To reboot, press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and his iPad will restart.  Once it comes back up, he should try his mail application again.

  • Can't send email while connected to friends wifi

I can retrieve email, but can't send email while connected to friends wifi. I think I get message that says "cannot connect to server" (being comcast, which is my home ISP).

It is possible that your friend's ISP is blocking outbound traffic on the port your mail service provider is expecting your outbound email. Another possibility is that your ISP does not accept outbound email from locations not on their network. Both of these are due to efforts by Internet service providers to curb spam.
Contact the ISPs involved (I would suggest your own first) to find out what is happening.
    Best of luck.

  • How do I set up email accounts to send emails while travelling overseas using various wifi locations?

How do I set up email accounts to send and receive
emails while travelling overseas using various wifi locations?

Many ISP provided email accounts limit connections to their outgoing SMTP email servers to only connections coming from their own network. So, if you try to send email when not connected to their network (i.e. when not at home), the connection will be rejected.
If you are using an ISP provided email address, in these circumstances, you'll need to ask your ISP if they provide an "authenticated SMTP connection" so that you can send email via their SMTP server when not actually accessing the internet via their network. You'll need to enter your email account username and password in the Outgoing SMTP server settings and possible configure SSL or outgoing port numbers. Your ISP will be able to advise on this though, as the exact setting vary between ISPs.
By far the best solution though, is to use an email account that is not tied to any particular ISP, such as a GMail account, as these can be used from anywhere, on any network and provide authenticated SMTP as standard.

  • After several fixes, I still cannot send emails while on Wi-Fi. Can you explain why this is?

I have read several community posts of Iphone users who have had the same issues I have, which is emails sent while on WI-Fi do not send. The only why to ensure that the messages are sent I have to turn off the Wi-Fi, which works but is very inconvenient. I spend much of my time not at my desktop and responding to emails. My employer has Wi-Fi available and I don't have to discuss why using Wi-Fi is advantageous. I have tried (unseccessfully) all the troubleshooting suggestions that I have read on Apple support communities. It sounds like only owners of Iphone 5 have these issues. My wife has a refurbished Iphone 4s and she has never complained about sending emails. I want Apple to address this widely shared concern and a resolution that does not require me to turn off my Wi-Fi every time I want to quickly reply to an email.

There can be a multitude of reasons why you can not send emails while on wifi
Particularly if your not on your own wifi
Business wifi may have blocked connections to external mail servers
If  your using your ISP for mail they may be blocking connection attempts from outside their IP address, range some require authentication to send
You"ll need to speak to both of your ISP and the network admin of the wifi your using
When trying to use email and tell them what you're trying to do and what happens
Since you can send mail while not on wifi
Your first port of call should be the network admin of the wifi your trying to use
If it's a business you'll might find external email servers have been blocked
It's not apples fault you can't send emails
Restrictions can set any network to stop users doing things the network owners don't want the users to do
there is nothing apple can possibly do about it nor would they want to

  • Could not send email while in MX, wireless connection

Last week I could not send email while in MX, wireless connection, using an SMTP server I usually use, and had used from Europe months before - only difference was that I did not turn on AT&T's international access feature. I wish now that I had thought to turn off localization. Email went out when I returned to the USA with no other change. Is this a known "feature"?

Bring the Mail browser window forward, then select Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine menu, which is represented by a clock icon in the menu bar. If you don't have that menu, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Time Machine ▹ Show Time Machine in menu bar
Scroll back in the time-travel view to the most recent snapshot containing the messages you want to restore. Select the messages, then click Restore. The messages will be restored to a new mailbox. From there you can move them wherever you like.

  • On 3G we cannot send emails from either our iPhones or iPad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Email account.  What is causing this and what do we need to do to resolve it?

On 3G we cannot send  Business emails from either our iPhones or Ipad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Account using both 3G and WiFi.
We bought the iPhones and Ipad so that we could send emails while we are out of the Office, but we are not able to do this unless we can find a WiFi connection. Incoming emails are fine.  We use IMAP, for Business emails just incase this is relevant and I know that Hotmail is POP3.
Our technical IT knowledge is not great, so we look forward to your suggestions as to how to resolve this.

Contact whomever supports the email account and get the correct Outgoing email server settings from them.

  • Thunderbird can't send email to addresses in Address Book because of formatting error

My Thunderbird can't send email to an address picked from the Address Book. It gives the following error:
"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.1 <"name@telconame"@telco.com> Unknown recipient. Please check the message recipient "name@telconame"@telco.com and try again."
You can see that Thunderbird has garbled the name/address pair: "name@telconame"@telco.com" so that it's unworkable.
If I type the email address by hand, it sends the email OK. But it can't retrieve an address from the Address Book without garbling the name/address pair. Win 7, TBird Version 32.0; it's the same in SafeMode.
    Any ideas?

Make two Address Book entries for him; one for each of his e-mail addresses. Make a new Address Book group and put both of his entries in it. When you send him an e-mail just type in the name of the group in the To: field.

  • We changed our password on our email and now I can't send emails I can receive them.

We changed our email password and now we can't send emails.

    Hey there Darlene E,
It sounds like after you changed your email password you can send email, but cannot receive them. Try out the troubleshooting in this article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
    Try a different Wi-Fi connection
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Can't send email using wifi. Spent 30 min troubleshooting with my email service provider who finally told me to contact Apple

Can't send email using wifi. Spent 30 min troubleshooting with my email service provider who finally told me to contact Apple.
It doesn't work when I can't get 3G, whether at home or overseas. Receives no problem, and 3G works fine when it's available.

Maybe it is a 3GS. Anyway, I get the error that the network is not responding, and to check my settings. My ISP is Uniserve (Canada) but I am trying to use Telus (at home, where there is no 3G in my neighbourhood) or whatever is available as I travel eg. US or Europe for outgoing mail when 3G is not available. My husband has no problem with his iphone 4 when he sends email the same way usinf wifi.

  • Can't send attachments, can barely send emails at times since updated OS.

Mac's Mail app. 2.1 will not send attachments anymore (on or about the time I updated 3 of my copmuters to OS X 10.4.7. At times I can barely send emails, especially if they have more than a few lines of content! I can, however, receive email. My ISP, Adelphia, in Los Angeles, says everything's fine on their end and it's the Mail application. This is ridiculous. It started a week ago, then stopped doing it, and now it's totally worthless again. I've read numerous accounts of this in the discussions, but every "solution" seems needlessly complex. Can anyone help?
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi Freder,
    That's interesting...
Possibility: Some mail or account setting or preference file is corrupted
Make a new user account (System Preferences > Accounts; click the lock icon to authenticate, then the "+" icon). Log out of your account (under the Apple menu) and log into the new account. Run Mail and set up the Adelphia account. Can you send from here? To avoid confusion, don't receive mail in the new account -- look at Mail > Preferences > General and the check for new mail option to prevent an automatic receive.
Possibility: There's something else going on on your system
While sending a large message you know will fail, watch your system with Activity Monitor (in Applications/Utilities). Be sure the popup at top says All Processes, then click the % CPU column to show heavy CPU users. What is using your system? How much CPU is used? How much free disk space and free RAM is there? (The latter two items are under the Disk Usage and System Memory tabs at the bottom.)
Possibility: the connection to Adelphia is a problem
Web browsing is OK? You say that web mail works fine. Would you notice a drop out of your network connection for, say, five seconds while browsing the web? That's long enough to interrupt mail but short enough that you might just put it down to a slow page load. Watch network activity in Activity Monitor, the Network tab at the bottom. Does it drop to zero for a while before Mail fails?
If you can try the suggestions and answer the questions, I think we'll whittle this down enough to propose a solution.

  • How can I send email using two different email address that both link back to my one exchange account on my Ipad mini

How can I send email using two different email address that both link back to my one exchange account on my Ipad mini?
On my PC I simply have a master return email address and use a POP for the secondary address.  Both are through the one exchange account without a problem.  I need to be able to do the same on my Ipad.

Ah, I should have made that clear.  My domain didn't come from google.  It was purchased at and is hosted at dreamhost, but I haven't used their email servers in years - I just route everything through gmail.  I actually have a bunch of domains (with websites).
Gmail has an option that lets someone with custom domains send (and receive) email through gmail using the custom domain once Google confirms proper ownership of the domain (to prevent spammers and such).  Gmail has a setting for "send email as" which allows gmail to be sent using a custom domain as the sender.  I'm pretty sure Apple's old mobileme had this feature too, but I didn't use it.

  • I just updated my IPad to iOS 5 and now can not send email. The error message says the server rejects the address which is not true Asti sends on my desktop.

I just updated my iPad to iOS 5 and now can't send email- I have tried the obvious but no luck. Any suggestions?

Usually 'authentication required' means that you need to submit a username (or e-mail address) and password to the e-mail server, when sending a message. This logic is not different between Outlook and Thunderbird, and even with the latest and previous version of Thunderbird.
Of course you can try the previous version again to see if it solves the problem, although you'll be less secure because you would be missing the latest fixes.
If you'd be willing to get back to Thunderbird, say if your frustration level with your new app would increase too much, please see our article [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages cannot send messages] for further help.
In all other cases I'd appreciate it if you could mark this as answer so we know you don't need further help.

  • I can't send emails from iPhone until I connect to my wifi! I am with bigpond and have a bigpond email address. Can anyone help me?

I can't send emails from iPhone until I connect to my wifi at home. I am with bigpond and have a bigpond email address. Can anyone help me?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Can't send email from mac

    Hi
I don't know since when, but I can't send email anymore via iCloud on my Mac. iPhone and iPad work. Online iCloud as well.
    I am running:
    OS X 10.9.2
    Mail 7.2 (1874)
    I use the @me.com adresses
    smtp Server says: iCloud(iCloud)
    What I tried so far:
I went to Accounts in SysPref and activated and deactivated the account.
    No help
I deleted my iCloud account and created it new from scratch on my Mac
    No help
But it changed the smtp server info from iCloud(iCloud offline) to iCloud(iCloud)
    But still can't send it.
Also, all info seems to indicate that everything is fine. Account Info, etc.
I am running out of options.
    Any help?
    ExKingKong

Try deleting the email account in Mail's Accounts preference pane
and then add it back. That will automatically enter the correct server addresses.
