Can't send emails when away from home

I can send emails from my iphone when I'm at home, but not once I have left the house. I get the 'sending' bar at the bottom, but nothing ever happens. Any ideas?

When at home connected to your wireless network?
If so, is the email account provided by your internet service provider at home?
If yes, most internet service providers don't have an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide which is the problem.
Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated, and AT&T is no different in this regard when connected to the internet via their cellular network when sending email.
AT&T's SMTP server is included as an available SMTP server to select/use for an email account when connected to the internet via their cellular network if an email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server. This should work when connected to AT&T's cellular network but may not work when connected to your wi-fi network at home with your internet service provider being used for your internet connection.
I access two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client. Both accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had any problems sending with either account regardless the internet service provider being used for my internet connection at the time.

I can't get my MacBook Pro to send email when I'm away from home but the connection doctor says it is connected to all of the smtp servers in my mail accounts.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most, if not all ISPs, block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection) on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network, but some block all available ports that can be used with an SMTP server that is outside of their network.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
Earthlink has an authenticated SMTP server, as does a .Mac account, so you should be able to send messages with your Earthlink and .Mac accounts when connected to different ISPs. If not and you are using 25 for the SMTP server port for these SMTP servers, try using 587 for the SMTP server port instead for each.
You can only use the .Mac authenticated SMTP server to send messages with a .Mac account, but it should be possible to use Earthlink's authenticated SMTP server to send messages with any account.
If the ISP you are using for your internet connection is very restrictive in this regard, there isn't much you can do except for contacting the ISP being used for their requirement when using an SMTP server that is outside of their network, or send via webmail access for the account using a browser.

my iphone will not send emails when away from home wifi any advice

    Hey craggee,
Thanks for the question. This is usually do to a limitation by your ISP/email provider:
If you are only able to use your email account while connected to your home network, this may be a limitation put in place by your email service provider. For further support, please contact your email service provider directly.

  • HT4979 why can I not send email when away from my home wifi? Am able to receive messages OK, and outgoing mailserver is correct?

Why am I unable to send email when away from my home wifi ? I am able to receive mail OK, and have double- checked the outgoing server which is correct. This problem is consistent with my Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad2.
Attempts to send messages results in them sitting in the Outbox and never- ending 'sending message' displayed.
I am able to send using my   me.com  server.
    Home service provider is Cogeco.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't send email when not at home

    Hi there!
I can send and receive email fine when I am at home, but now I am away from my home I can download my email but not send anything. My settings all appear to be correct (no changes made since I left home) so I am wondering why this is.

As Andrew says, your ISP may be blocking the SMTP to prevent spam. However, you may be able to send Mail using another port. My ISP blocks SMTP on the default port (port 25 I think is default) but if you set the port to 587 it works.
So, check you ISP's help. You may be able to set SMTP to use a different port and get your mail to send

  • Can't send emails anywhere but from home

Just wondering, using my macbook pro I've noticed that depending on where I am I can ALWAYS receive emails, but often can't send them. I never have this problem at home, is it something with my outgoing mail server not working on other places wifi networks?
    My outgoing is mail.charter.net
Just not sure why it wouldn't work everywhere. I'm at the third place today working on different wifi networks, I can surf the web fine, receive emails and such but can't send anything.
    Thoughts?
    thanks!
    Jeff

If you are talking about using the smtp.me.com (or smtp.mac.com) as Outgoing Server, then using Port 587 would be more likely to work at other venues.
This is set in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information by clicking on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP, choosing Edit Server list, and then clicking on the Advanced tab there (different Advanced tab, btw, than you cited earlier). Select Use Custom Port, enter 587 and the Username and Password.
If you are not talking about MobileMe servers (there is no accuracy to citing "mac mail" -- it has no specific meaning.

  • How do I connect to my email when away from home?

My phone is set to Settings/Wifi/to my connection at ATT; my Cellular Data is on; my Data roaming is on...yet I cannot connect to my email account when I'm out walking my dog. Why?

If i'm in a hotel in New York on another computer, what address do I use to access my personal Thunderbird email?

  • Problem sent email when away from home

Task 'Barbara Key - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Be sure you include your email username and password with your outgoing SMTP server setup. Most ISPs will not allow you to use their SMTP servers unless you are using their mail service, so remote requests are blocked if you don't have the login information.

  • Is there any final answer to why emails will not send when away from home IP?  Have san diego road runner.  emails send fine from home, but do not send when using another IP.

Is there a final answer to why emails do not send from iphones when away from home IP?

This is a common anti-spam technique for ISPs to prevent mail from being sent from anywhere other than your service location. Ask Road Runner if there are any specific settings you can use to circumvent this.

  • Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all.

Using Outlook 2007 I want to receive emails on my iPhone 4 only when Outlook is NOT open on my computer, as when away from home or want to quickly check email when computer is not turned on. Either ALL emails come to my iPhone or none at all. Is the setting I need to change in Outlook or on the iPhone or is it somewhere else?  I used to have this setting but transferring Outlook to a new laptop somehow turned it off.

No. You really can't do that. Not easily at any rate. You would have to set them both up to use POP3, but even then there is no way to guarantee that the phone won't poll the server prior to your computer doing so, pulling down the message from the server.

  • What settings do I need to use to be able to send and receive e-mails when away from home?

what settings do I need to use on an iphone4 to be able to send and receive e-mails when away from home?

Should be the standard Gmail settings, then: smtp.gmail.com
These settings will be configured automatically for you if you go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars > Add Account > Gmail. Then enter your login info.

You can't. You can only homeshare over your home network.

  • Wifi works at home but not when away from home

My Wifi works at home but not when away from home, what is wrong?  I thought with a phone plan I didn't need to have a wifi connection.

You either need WiFi or Cellular (or both). If you have neither, you can't connect to the internet.
Most people use WiFi at home and Cellular while away from home, or connect to public WiFi networks where there are some.
