  • Can't send email from Apple mail using hosted exchange since upgrade to 10.5.8

I've got a client who just upgraded to 10.8. Since doing so he can recieve email but not send it for a hosted exchange account. He can send and recieve from his personal pop account. It is a wireless connection.  I have tried the following without any success:
    1. Verified all the config info was correct (server password etc) - no change
    2. Deleted and re-added the account - same result
    3. Deleted keychain data and readed the account - no change.
    4. Ran disk utility (why not?) - no change
    5. Removed an internet sharing app called open garden - no change
    6. Installed 10.8.1 - no change
After trying all of this when we start mail everything looks good and then the outbound server abruptly goes "offline". The exchange host says there are no issues on their end. Internet works too. Email delivers/sends to his iPhone, iPad, and a home iMac that was also upgraded to 10.8.
Anyone with other ideas? This one has me stumped.
    -Jonathan

I have the exact same issue, but with a standard IMAP account and SMTP.  My iPhone can send out, using the EXACT same settings, from the exact same WiFi connection...but the 10.8 MacBook cannot send at all.  The only account I can send out on is my iCloud account.
I have also tried all the steps above...no luck.
I have also turned off all network filters and firewalls...no luck.  (And as I said above, my iPhone is on the exact same WiFi connection and using the exact same settings, and it can send fine.)
Other messages I've found via Google have suggested simply forcing the SMTP server to use Port 25, but that didn't work for me either.

  • HI, as of today can't use Gmail with Apple Mail anymore. neither on Macbook Pro nor on ipad. But is still works on my iphone, guess because I didn't update on the iphone. So can anybody tell me what happened and how I can fix it?

    Hi,
as of today I can't access Gmail via Apple Mail anymore. Last night I updated on Macbook Pro and ipad, and both don't allow me to access gmail anymore. Gmail still  works on my iphone, I guess, because I didn't update that one.
Can anybody tell me what happended and how to fix it?
    Thx

    ChrisK21,
Make sure your settings match up with this:

if wouldn't hurt to delete the account entirely and just re-set it up in preferences.

  • Since 2 days can't send emails via Apple Mail

    Hi,
for 2 days now I'm unable to send emails from Apple Mail.
I have an Hotmail account (using POP3) and a WEB.DE account (using IMAP) connected with Mail. Every time I try to send an email Mail tells me the SMTP server are offline. My mobile.me account though works properly.
To exclude problems with certain ports on my WLAN router I tried to use Thunderbird on my Windows PC with these accounts. Sending emails this way wasn't a problem at all.
Also deleting all accounts and setting them up again didn't make a change...
Even changing the OS back from Lion to SL hasn't made an impact.
Any suggestions what might cause this weird problem?

    Hello P:
Since each one is different, I suspect the best answer to your question lies with your ISP.

  • Can't send email through Apple mail

I suddenly am not able to send email through Apple mail on my MacBookPro.  ipad and iphone still working.  I can also send email through att online.  My email is @att.net, and the message says "The server cannot be contacted on port 465".  (That is the proper port)

    Hi,
    Here are some suggestions,
    1. Try downloading another free email client to see if it works from there, just to eliminate other possibilities.
    2. Try removing the account in mail settings, and adding it again with the correct settings.
Let me know what you find!

  • Can't send document to Apple Mail after upgrading to Maverick

    Hello,
When I in iWork '09 try to send a document to Apple Mail as an attachment, I get an error message that says  "iWork encountered an error while attempting to create the attachment data", I get the same message wether I select "Pages", "Word" or "PDF".
I get the same message in Pages and in Numbers. It started after I upgraded to Maverick.
I copied this from the console:
2014-05-11 19:37:27,587 Pages[234]: -[NSFileWrapper setContentID:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xc74d4c0
2014-05-11 19:37:27,587 Pages[234]: Caught the following exception while trying to send to mail.
-[NSFileWrapper setContentID:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xc74d4c0
    Help would be appreciated.

    Hello Fruhilda!
It seems that my problem is resolved. My version was 4.1 and App Store didn't show any updates. But after som searching I found out that there was an iWork 9.3 update which I downloaded and installed. After the update the version was 4.3 and I was able to send documents to Apple Mail.

  • Can no longer access Gmail from Apple Mail in OS 10.7.5

Apple Mail stopped playing nice with my Gmail account.
I have IMAP enabled. All accounts are online. But there's no communication between Mail and Gmail. Whenever I try to update my mail, I get the following error message:
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 993 timed out.
    Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): gmail
It's almost as if Apple Mail thinks I'm offline.
    What can I do?

Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    imap.gmail.com
Launch the Network Utility application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
    Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

  • Cannot send gmail in apple mail since upgrading to Yosemite

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, I am unable to send any mail from any imap accounts.  My gmail and work account are offline.  I've tried all of the tricks others have posted and tried to reset the accounts up again.  I left one of my iMacs using Mavericks and have no problems.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • AOL Mail Client can't download pictures from Apple Mail?

    Hey gang-
My sister and her family use the current Windows AOL email client to send and receive email. I sent them some JPEGs using Apple Mail, and I selected "Send Windows Friendly Attachments" before composing the message. Anyhow, they can see the pictures in the AOL mail client, but they don't seem to be able to download the JPEGs to disk. They say they've never had this problem before, so I wonder if it's an issue with how Apple Mail sends the JPEGs?
I have no idea how the Windows AOL mail client works, but does anyone know of any general guidance I can give them?
    Thanks!
    Dave

    Dave,
Travis has captured all the facets of the problem. I will only add that the surest way to send to AOL is to use Plain Text. This has always been the advice with Mail (i.e., not use RTF to AOL recipients) but additional factors have been added by Mail 2.0. Whenever RTF is used, along with attachments, and there is furthermore a mixture of fonts utilized, Mail converts to use HTML, and changes the status of files attached, even for users other than AOL. The most common sources of mixed font usage are from a Signature, or from text included in replying, or forwarding.
When sending to AOL users, continue to use Windows Friendly, but also use Plain Text. If you do not wish to set Plain Text as the default in Compose, then on these messages, click on Format in the Menu Bar, and choose Make Plain Text on an individual message.
Let us know if problems persist, despite this method.

  • Can I moving mailboxes from Apple Mail 4.6 (OS X Lion) to Apple Mail 7.1 (OS X Mavericks)?

    Hi all,
I've tried to copy my /User/Library/Mail, /User/Library/Mail Downloads and /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist on OS X Lion 10.6.8 to the same dirs in OS X Mavericks. But I still can't see my old mailboxes and messages.
It's possible to migrate from Mail 4.6 to Mail 7.1?
    tks

Apple doesn't have an email system for support. AppleCare is the only method.
You might try the Support link on the Mac App Store, but they're not necessarily the people in charge of the up-to-date program, but they may be able to help you. Don't get your hopes up on that, though. When you contact the App Store support, make sure you note all of the things you stated above along with your Claim Reference number.

  • Can't send email using Apple Mail with Verizon

My Verizon settings in my Apple Mail program will not send mail. I am using my correct password and userid for authentication. I use outgoing.verizon.net server and port 587. Should I be using a different port setting?

port 110 is the port number for the incoming (pop) mail server, port 25 is the port number for the outgoing (smtp) mail server. If they were insisting that you use port 110 for the outgoing (smtp) mail server, that is because the tech support rep with whom you spoke was not a very clueful person. These are established standard port numbers for those services.
PS- should you have found anyone's post in this thread helpful to you, like Jim's, consider clicking the "helpful" or "solved" buttons in the header of said posts and if you don't click the "solved" button ("helpfuls" alone don't mark a thread as "answered"), then also consider marking this thread as "answered" for the benefit of others searching out a solution to a similar problem with their Verizon Mail configuration.

  • Please Help! Trouble sending email from Apple Mail to PC-users

When sending email in RTF format from Mail to PCs, we have som trouble which I havent found out how to solve:
    1) the PC user gets a scrambler email, in which some of the text is like "chinese". Illegible! This seems to happen especialle with PDFs attached.
    2) Graphics or pictures we wish to appear directly in the mail is not visible to the receiver, but is only included as attachments.
I know most mail encoding problems can be avoided if we send mail i the "old" simple text format. But we wish to send mails in which our company logo appears in the signature, and sometimes we send graphics and pictures that we wish to be seen directly in the mail (and not as attached files only).
I have set the preferences so that mails as standard are send in RTF format and attachments are send in the "windows friendly" mode.
What really irritates me is that we have more success sending PC friendly mails from Entourage. But for two other reasons we wish to use Mail instead of Enrourage (Entourage has more crash downs/"broken" database issues. And we use Plaxo which does not sync with Entourage)..
Could some of you Please help or direct me to helpfull info?
    Sincerely ...Peter and Thomas

    Hello Peter.
Your OS detail provided indicates you are running 10.3.9 but you posted in the Mail & Address Book - Tiger discussions.
    1) When you say PC user, more than likely the PC users reporting this problem are using Outlook for their email client since Outlook has always had problems with Mail's RTF and sometimes severe problems depending on the version used by the recipient. Using Plain Text for message composition will resolve this but check this link for an alternative.
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/woutlook.html
    2) All Mail.app versions prior to Tiger Mail (2.x) do not support composing in HTML. RTF with Tiger Mail is HTML but Tiger Mail does not include an HTML composer/editor.
The Mail.app displays all photo/image and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off. This is not the same as being embedded which cannot be done with any Mail.app version directly regardless. Depending on the recipient's email client and available settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as when receiving such attachments with the Mail.app) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
The same in reverse. Photo/image attachments to a Windows Outlook message appear as attached files only when the message is sent but when sent to a Mail.app user, such attachments will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened which the Windows Outlook user has no control over.
The company logo included with your Signature is likely appearing as an attached file to the message only but how the logo appears when opened by the recipient depends on the recipient's email client.
The only thing the Windows Friendly Attachment option does is remove the Apple resource fork for attached files which are invisible to fellow Mac users.

  • Can't send email from Mac MAIL

I am setting up my new MacBook -- specifically the Mac MAIL, and intend to include a yahoo account and my new mac.com account.
So far, through Mac MAIL, I am able to send and receive email with my mac.com account, but can only receive email on my yahoo account. When I try to send an email from the yahoo account through Mac Mail, I get an error message about the outgoing server. (btw, no trouble if I go through the Safari browser to yahoo, which is why yahoo phone assistant gave up trying).
BUT.....the outgoing server settings are correct, as per my review and the yahoo phone assistant. Still, no luck.
Anyone had this problem? Thanks for any advice.

    Kappy,
Am I reading it correctly that you’re suggesting the OP to set up his/her Yahoo account again?
You should never, ever, set up two accounts in Mail with the same Account Type, User Name and Incoming Mail Server. For each account, Mail creates a folder within ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the username and the incoming mail server. Having two accounts sharing the same account folder in Mail is calling for trouble. Amongst other problems, deleting one of the accounts would cause the (shared) account folder to be deleted as well, and all the mail stored there to be lost...
