Can't send large attachments

I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.1 (Leopard) and a couple of weeks ago to Entourage (Office for Mac 2008).
I can connect, surf the web, and receive emails with large attachments as usual.
I've been very happy with Entourage for years. But now using Entourage (or even Mail, or Thunderbird), I can't send emails with attached files over 200k or so. My connection times out and I get either of the following error messages:
"The connection was terminated by the remote site. Please try again."
OR
"Operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."
My ISP checks everything out as okay on their end. I uninstalled my Firewall and AntiVirus programs. I changed the smtp port to 587 - check "SMTP requires authenication..." - deleted and created a new account to manually and carefully input my settings. Tried all the tips from the Entourage Help Page, MacFixIt, Mac Owners Support Group, MacTopia, Microsoft Office Support, etc. etc. I'm at my wits end!
I'm a graphic designer who regularly sends small and large pdf (500k - 2 MB) files to clients. At this point I'm sending clients large files via Gmail - which is slow sending and slow getting to clients compared to what I'm used to with my previous Entourage. This is getting in the way of my work.
I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me.
Thanks,
pjfiona

I have a similar problem in that I have recently switched Internet service providers here in the U.K. from Demon to TalkTalk. Since doing so I can't send mail from the TalkTalk account but I can receive mail into it.
The annoying thing is that everything worked fine on my wife's Windows PC when I set her new account up.
TalkTalk have suggested that I need to change the MTU on my Mac from 1500 (which they say is the Mac's default setting) to 1432. On searching Mac Help it explains how to do this in Tiger using an Ethernet connection but for Leopard using Airport it states to go into Mail Help and follow the instructions - not very helpful because there aren't any.
Does anyone know how I can adjust the MTU to 1432? TalkTalk did mention something about using a SUDO Command but didn't know the actual command to use and suggested that I contact Apple support.
Thought I would try you knowledgeable people first in the hope that someone can help.
Thanks, Mike

    How big of a file you can send over an email, is not determined by Apple, but rather by your email service provider.  For example, if you have a Gmail email address, they let you send up to 25 MB of data
    http://support.google.com/mail/answer/8770?hl=en.
    To find out how big of a file your email service provider will let you send, do a google search for "your email provider maximum file size".
    If you need to send larger files, look into something like "Drop Box" -
    https://www.dropbox.com.

  • Sending large attachments  - MS Exchange

    I am having problems sending large attachments. The email forever sits in the outbox and the sent folder just spins. The attachment size is 7.1M. Mail activity says "adding messages"
    This worked fine with Entourage.
    any thoughts.

    Hello RyanT1 & welcome to the forums...
    The attachment size is 7.1M.
    Reduce that size in increments and see if you can find an allowable threshold that works.

    Cellular data is a feature from your phone carrier.  Have you contacted them to resolve your issue.

  • Trouble sending large attachments

    Hi,
    I recently completed my migration to Mobile Me. Since that time, I am having a very hard to impossible time in sending any large attachments over 4 to 5 MB. I never had an issue with this before.
    Now when I send a large attachment, it transfers very slowly and eventually gives up and gives me the window asking about using an alternate server. This never happened before.
    Is anyone else having difficulty. And is there a solution?
    Thank you, Dave

    I don't know, but this is a better place to ask about using your Mobile Me e-mail account:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=960
    It seems that there are several threads there already about sending large attachments.

  • Why won't Mail under Exchange send large attachments?

    I upgraded my new iMac to Snow Leopard in large part because of its support for connecting to Exchange 2007 servers, which I use for my work. But I can't send attachments of any size.
    Setting it up in Mail seemed to go fine - I connect using a software VPN and am able to read emails - and also send emails via the Exchange server, but only if they're small - under 1MB, really. Anything bigger and they just won't send - the wheel by 'Sent' just spins and spins. My work IT helpdesk weren't much help - they just said this was a 'known issue' with Snow Leopard that they couldn't address. It doesn't appear to have been fixed by 10.6.2.
    What's going on here? It's clearly not a problem with email size limits on my work mail server, as I can use the webmail interface perfectly well, and also send emails from Outlook on my work PC, via the Exchange server. My other POP accounts set up in Mail also work fine.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Maybe your ISP has put a limit on the number of addresses per email in an effort to reduce spam. Or maybe you have an invalid address in the list and your email client aborts sending the email.

  • How can we send multiple attachments in a mail from iPad 2

    Hi,
    I am using a ipad2. I want to know how we can send multiple attachments through mail from iPad. I did not find any option of doing this. Is there a way to do this.
    Regards,
    Satyabrat

    You can't do it natively on the iPad (unless you just want to send up to 5 photos from the Photos app). I use the GoodReader app which supports quite a few document/file types (e.g. PDF, Excel, Word, pictures), and from that I can select multiple files (including different types) and attach them to the same email.

  • How can I send multiple attachments using SO_DYNP_OBJECT_SEND?

    Hi,
    I hope someone can offer advice on my problem.
    My requirement is to allow users to select one or more documents from an ALV grid.  I am then required to send these documents to multiple users via email using function module SO_DYNP_OBJECT_SEND.
    I can successfully send one document as an attachment.  However, I can't seem to figure out how to send multiple documents as attachments using SO_DYNP_OBJECT_SEND.  Is this done in the packing list?
    Is there some way to tell the program where the 1st attachment ends and the 2nd attachment starts?
    My attachment content is in i_att_cont.
      CALL FUNCTION 'SO_DYNP_OBJECT_SEND'
        EXPORTING
          object_hd_change = l_title
          object_type      = 'RAW'
          raw_editor       = abap_true
          starting_at_x    = '5'
          starting_at_y    = '1'
          ending_at_x      = '120'
          ending_at_y      = '20'
          edit_title       = 'X'
          external_commit  = abap_true
        TABLES
          objcont          = i_objcont
          rec_tab          = i_rec_tab
          packing_list     = i_packing_list
          att_cont         = i_att_cont
          exclude_fcode    = i_exclude_fcode
        EXCEPTIONS
          object_not_sent  = 1
          owner_not_exist  = 2
          parameter_error  = 3
          OTHERS           = 4.
    If you require more information, please let me know.  I will be happy to provide it.
    Thanks.

    I finally found the solution.
    The trick is to ensure you put the correct values in the body_start, body_num and objlen fields of the packing list.
    Each additional attachment should start (body_start) at the end of the last attachment + 1.
    The value for body_num is equal to the number of lines in the attachment being added.
    And the objlen field is calculated by multiplying the number of lines in the attachent * 255.
    Static data
       gs_packing_list-file_ext = lv_ext.
       gs_packing_list-transf_bin = 'X'.
       gs_packing_list-objla = sy-langu.
       gs_packing_list-objtp = 'EXT'.
       gs_packing_list-objdes = lv_filename.
       gs_packing_list-objnam = 'Attachment'.
       gs_packing_list-head_start = 1.
       gs_packing_list-head_num = 1.
    Body Start
       CLEAR lv_count.
       DESCRIBE TABLE gt_temp_att_cont LINES lv_count.
       gs_packing_list-body_start = lv_count + 1.
    Body Num + Object Length
       CLEAR lv_count.
       DESCRIBE TABLE gt_att_cont LINES lv_count.
       gs_packing_list-body_num = lv_count.
       gs_packing_list-objlen = lv_count * 255.
       APPEND gs_packing_list TO gt_packing_list.
    Hopefully this helps some desperate soul in the future.

  • Can I send large data as a stream in request or response

    I have to send a large amount of string data as a part of request to the web service provider. I cant send it as a simple string object as it will lead to OutOfMemory error. Is there any way so that i can send the data as a stream to the web service provider? I couldn't find anything in web service specification where InputStream data type is there.. so is there any alternative to send large amount of data to web service provider?
    Thank you.

    If you can use JAX-WS, I believe you can do it with DataHandlers. See the following for more information: http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=224340&#224340

  • Can't send audio attachments using Finder Menu Services Mail anymore

    Hi, all:
    One of my favorite features of iTunes was the ability to quickly send audio files as attachments using Mac Mail. Before, if I had an MP3 highlighted in the iTunes Library, and I selected iTunes (Finder Menu) > Services > Mail > Send File, my default mail handler (Mac Mail) would open up a new message window with the underlying MP3 file referenced in the iTunes Library already embedded as an attachment. As a musician, I appreciated the simplicity of the workflow required to send compositions to collaborators.
    However, recently, that path of steps doesn't work anymore. I can still send the text information of the file (using Finder Menu > Services > Mail > Send Selection, but I can't use the > Send File to quickly attach the file anymore. I should note that the > Send File feature still works fine in other contexts (e.g., when I've selected a file in a Finder Window).
    Is there something corrupted in my setup, or did Apple take this feature away for some reason? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Paulo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    It sounds like you have a more serious problem.
    At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
    After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
    Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
    At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
    The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
    Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Can't send large emails with dial-up

    I have a new iMac. The new ones do not have an internal modem so I am using a USB Apple modem to connect to my ISP. When trying to send a large email, either a lot of text or with an attachment, the send stalls and will not complete. I can not send a 500KB file as I could on my Windows machine. If I zip the 500KB down to 30KB it works just fine. The sending blue progress bar extends about 3/8inch and just stalls there. Finally times out and I get an error.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rich

    It's probably an issue with your ISP--you should contact them first. Also, it could be an issue with your email provider--maybe they have size limits on emails. But if you are connected to the internet, and everything else is working as it should, it's probably not the iMac.

  • I can't send large images any longer, what gives?

    I recently upgraded to OSX 10.5.2. I can't say that's when this problem started though I suspect it. I can still send images and select one of three sizes however, all are very small for some reason, full size is about 160kb.

    As described above and on the other threads you've made multiple posts on:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    Can you explain if this does not work for you?
