Can't send mail, says offline, but can receive

I can receive mail on my .mac account but when I try to send anything, it says I am offline. How do you contact anyone at Apple? We held for about 45 minutes last night and still couldn't get through. Apple needs to do something about their customer service for those of us who don't live close enough to an Apple Store to be able to visit the genius bar.

I'm having the same problem, and it's making me crazy. Since I installed 10.5.6, many things gradually have gone wrong. Mail started hanging and my wireless network became very unstable. To try to "fix" Mail, I trashed Mail's prefs and restarted. Then I input my settings and got the result that I can receive mail but cannot send it. I have tinkered with my settings ad nauseam, with no improvement. Since all three of my computers sync using Mobile Me, now I cannot send from any of them.
I certainly would appreciate any input or experience anyone can share.

  • I can no longer send e-mail in TB but still receive it.

Recently TB quit allowing me to send e-mail messages. I still receive mail, but when I try to send messages, I am prompted for a password. It does not accept the correct password. I can send messages from my iphone and a web-based e-mail app, so it is not a problem within the account, just with TB. How to I correct this problem?

Get a list of SMTP server settings from your email provider and check those against what you have in Thunderbird. Maybe one of the SMTP server settings needs updating.
If you need help looking at your server settings, go to the Help Menu and select Troubleshooting Information. Clear the box to include Account Names. Press the button labeled Copy All to Clipboard and then come back here and paste that info to a reply box.

  • Cannot send mails via IMAP but can receive mails

    HI All
Having Exchange 2010 SP2 on standalone box on W2K8R2-std sp1
We enabled IMAP and POP3 for our user base who do not have Outlook or are facing issues with active sync.
mailbox gets configured however none of mails are sent via IMAP  they remain stuck in user outbox only.
They can receive mails but can't send. we tried configuring same users on Outlook and activesync and it worked.
We were surprised with some mis-configuration at IMAP end but could't get to root of it. Any idea what could be an issue????
for imap testing we tried Zimbra 7.2.3 on windows 7 pro, Windows Mail app in windows 8.1. IMAP in windows phone 8
Have enabled IMAP and pop3 logging but couldn't interpret it.
    Cheers VP

    Hi vp89,
Based on my knowledge, POP3 and IMAP cannot be used to send messages.
E-mail applications that use POP3 and IMAP4 to send messages rely on the SMTP protocol to send messages.
The connector for receiving e-mail submissions from client applications that use POP3 or IMAP4 is created automatically on every Hub Transport server.
    We need a Send Connector.

  • Need help, can't send mail from webmail but can from clients

Just got Lion Server up and running but i'm having a problem sending mail via the webmail (Roundcube). I keep getting this error
    SMTP error (250): Authentication failed.
The problem is that no one needs to be authorized to send mail. All my clients work fine sending from their mail client software. It seems that roundcube wants to autheticate in some form and doesn't know it doesn't need to. But where do I change that setting??

i noticed this in my logs, so I'm sure roundcube is trying to access the server using authentication, but I don't know how to change it.
[29-Dec-2011 14:27:42] SMTP server does not support authentication ():

I went to the line 1502 but it doesn't look like I should change anything there.

  • Can't send mail through AOL...receive OK..HELP

I set up my AOL account through Mail but I can't seem to send any.....I can receive mail OK but I've tried a lot of different settings on the outgoing but it just does not work.
Anyone have any tricks or special settings for AOL?
    Thanks!!

It does make a difference. For me, it did, anyways. When I first established an account with an aim.com email address, and specified smtp.aol.com, AOL rejected my mail because the domains didn't match. Or so said the nastygram splash screen that I got. If either smtp server specification works for you, cool. Didn't for me. So, if Steven is "cross-specifying" server/email address domains, it's worth checking this as a potential fix.
http://about.aol.com/faq/openmailaccess#MacOSX gives the official party line for configuring. It doesn't say, specifically, in (9) that it makes a difference about domain -- but it's kind of inferred because it says so in (5) when they tell you how to configure the imap piece ("... depending on type of account").
I, too, have smtp password authentication checked as well. That piece of info just didn't make it into the post.

  • Now I can send eMails when traveling - but trouble RECEIVING them!

I posted this question a few weeks ago and got a great reply which works fine - see following:
When I am in a hotel out of town or overseas- or just anywhere where I don't have my home ISP - how can I not only RECEIVE but also SEND eMail via my Mail program?
I know I can go to the www and use my MobileMe account - but it is easier if I can use Mail and also use my POP as well as my MobileMe account. With Eudora I used to set the smtp for send after looking it up (when I could find it) with Reverse DNS - but how / what do I fill-in with Mail to be able to send as well as receive eMails?
REPLY: If your ISP is like mine, it authenticates you for outgoing e-mail by being able to determine that you're accessing the Internet from within their network. If your ISP is so configured, they'll offer the ability to authenticate to their SMTP server with a password. My ISP does not.
However, MobileMe does provide its own authenticating SMTP server that you should be able to use from anywhere. Try an SMTP server of smtp.mac.com (smtp.me.com will probably also work) with settings of "Use default ports", "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)", and "Authentication" by password, your "User Name" the part of your MobileMe ID before the "at" sign, and your password your MobileMe password.
But now I cannot pull-down my MobileMe eMails directly from Apple's Mail when traveling. I can get my [email protected] (not real address) and I can send via my MobileMe from Mail as instructed above; and I can go to MobileMe and yup, my eMails are there; and I can even get those forwarded to my [email protected] account.
But I always could also RECEIVE my [email protected] eMails directly via my VOO.BE account via Mail - now not. Do I have to have the incoming stmp set differently? At home all works - and until 24 hours ago (36 maybe) - I could receive both - but not now...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
Steve traveling in Kobe, Japan\Sunday 14 February 2010

Hi! Well it is strange as I can receive via my VOO.be account; send via my .Mac account; but here in Japan cannot receive via the .Mac account.
    I have 2 accounts set-up in Mail; but 4 outgoing servers; but I think at least 1 and maybe 2 don't / haven't worked...
But my problem is now incoming. With connection Doctor I show now 6 different things 3 with green lights and 3 with red:
[email protected] --- red, can't connect with or without SSL checked
    VOO Steve eMail --- green
    mail.voo.be -- red, cannot connect
    smtp.me.com:myname --- green OK
    Schulte VOO --- red
    smtp.mail.com -- Green - OK
Again, I think I set-up at least 2 outgoing smtp's that don't work / never worked and that might be confusing this. It was only when I got to Japan that the MobileMe mail wouldn't come into Mail - it goes into MobileMe (cloud) fine - and then I ask it to forward to VOO and that comes in - so I'm thankfully not missing eMails but sure is strange--- Why can't I get MobileMe directly into Mail?
You likely need more information / details to solve this-- going to work here now in 2 hours but will try to solve this before I go back to Belgium on Sat!
Thanks for any comments - suggestions. Oh, yes - when I try to change mail.mac.com to smtp.mac.com for "incoming" - it automatically changes back to mail.mac.com... when I hit save.
If I change to mail.me.com (instead of "mac") will that do anything?

  • Sendmail sending mail to yahoo but not local domain

    Hi,
I havent worked much on sendmail at all, and as I know it its already configured in Solaris 10 and we just have to put in the relevant entries of DNS etc to make it work. Now the problem is when I use the command mailx to send mail, it is sending it to addresses like yahoo and hotmail, but no email is received on the local addresses on local domain. Example:
mailx -v [email protected] ----------------------> works, but
mailx -v [email protected] ------------------> doesn't work (no email is received)
Can someone please guide me as to what the issue could be? Thanks,
    Raza

mailx -v [email protected] ------------------> doesn't work (no email is received)
    What does:
    /usr/lib/sendmail -v [email protected]
    reveal?

you will need to provide some additional info.
What is your DS entry configured to in sendmail.cf this should be your mail bridge. Based on the fact that you can send to yahoo.com it sound like this is working.
For local email need to check your domain entry /etc/resolv.conf. This needs to match your systems domain name. This file may also contain a SEARCH entry which would allow email to check multiple domains.
You can also look at the sendmail log to see what sendmail is doing with the email request. Posting the output from mailx -v would help.
Finally make sure that the sendmail daemon is running if you want your unix machine to receive in bound email.

  • ARD Clients Status Says Offline but Online

Does anyone also have a problem where certain ARD clients statuses say that they are "offline", yet they are technology online and are still available to control and observe? I have an entire list where half of the client statuses read offline,  even though the machines are online and accessible. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? It is driving me crazy.

    Hi TeenTitan,
I tried your method and it also worked. I deleted the client from the All Computers list, and then re-added the client's IP manually within the Scanner.  It seems like all 3 of our methods will work depending on the situation. Good stuff. Appreciate your reply!
    TeenTitan wrote:
with the computer that shows as offline, but is online, do you see the ip address?
if so, have you tried searching your "all computer" list for that IP address? You might find another computer on your "all computer" list with that ip address. if so:
select the computer listed with that IP address,
get info on that computer record
delete the IP address from the computer record
    click done
go back to the computer that was online, but was listed as offline, see if it's not being listed as online. If not, try chicster trick again.
    Good luck

  • HT4528 Iphone will not send new calendar data but will receive it from PC and ipad.

I just set up a calendar on iphone, ipad and PC.  Iphone will not send new events but will receive from both PC and ipad. I just updated to iOS 6 and am reading others have similar problems.  Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Are the other phones that can't receive messages iPhones? If not, that could be the problem.
See this Apple doc -> iOS: Using Messages
You can send and receive text messages using the Messages app included with iOS. Messages supports SMS and MMS on iPhone, and iMessage on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. You can also send iMessages using Messages in OS X   Mountain Lion.

  • Mail delivery fail but still received mail

    hi
i keep receiving 2 messages straight after receipt of the original which is readable..
    1st message: mail delivery fail
    2nd message: undeliverable
i have no problem reading the original message
    regards
    kel

This is a problem with your recipients ISP not delivering the email, or with Comcast in not sending it once it reaches their mail servers. You should check with your recipients to find out if they use the same ISP, and have them check with the ISP to ask why mail sent from a Comcast account is not being delivered.
If this affects all your recipients (assuming there are many more than just the two you mentioned), then its a Comcast issue and you should call them and insist they make any necessary changes so everyone can receive email from you. If it only affects those two recipients, they would need to call their ISP and have them make the necessary changes.

  • Can't send mail, says all accounts are offline...

I have been trying to send emails all day, and for some reason it is not doing it. It says that my accounts are offline, and when I run Connection Doctor, it won't fix anything at all! AHH!! I don't know what to do at all, I have 5 different accounts, and none of them work. My firewall is not the problem, and I don't know what to go from here.
It used to work, I installed Leopard last week, and everything was fine until now.

You need to provide more information. What kind of email (POP or IMAP)? What is your network configuration like? Can you access other online resources? Is your email available via the web, and if so, can you get to it now?
