Can't send mail via iCloud with my iMac after creating a new account

Hi,
yesterday I created my account on Icloud.
I've Lion on my Imac, so I registered the account directly from settings on my Imac.
Now I can receive mail, but I can't send them, because the imap smtp server won't recognize my password.
If I access on icloud.com, I can do everything correctly.
Thank you for your support.
<Email Edited by Host>

It's a bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've aasked the Hosts to remove it.
The first thing to try would be to sign out in System Preferences>iCloud, then sign back in again and check 'Mail' and any other data types you need in the list. This will set Mail up, hopefully correctly.
If you are still having problems accessing or sending mail go to http://appleid.apple.com and change your password, making sure that it complies with Apple's requirements: at least eight characters, of which at least one must be a numeral and one a capital letter.
Note that iCloud does not interact with any other email service. You cannot use it to check other email accounts, and you cannot send using its smtp server with any address other than your @me.com one as the 'From' address.
You should be able to set up other accounts separately in the Mail application: these would be unaffected by iCloud in any way.

CCan I change my iCloud email address name without creating a new account?

Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.

  • Can't send mail via mail

    Greetings O Wise Ones,
The smtp setting are correct. I can receive mail. The mail app was working fine one minute and the next I couldn't send mail. Tried a new smtp and it didn't work either, Created a new login user and new mail. The smtp work with the new user but not with the old one. Any ideas that don't delete the com.apple.mail.plist? If that's the only way. How do I save my mail boxes?

This is happening to my wife's Leopard 10.5.8 upgraded machine right now.
We've been using Apple Mail for years and it works, but suddenly stopped working
and refuses to send mail via any SMTP server at all. It just spins forever and eventually
    complains it can't.
The account is configured to send via comcast (smtp.comcast.net), DSL (smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com), and gmail, as choices. Two of them require authentication, Comcast doesn't require authentication, only that the e-mail be sent via the Comcast cable router, which it is.
I've tried removing the SMTP accounts and carefully re-adding, removing the Gmail IMAP mail account itself in Apple Mail and re-adding, and even moving aside the /Users/<user/Library/Mail folder so it can be re-added. I've even used the sqlite3 index vacuum command.
On my own Mac Pro, 10.5.8, I'm able to send e-mail, but on the notebook mail is wedged up for good and it seems to be associated with the upgrade. I am now re-installing 10.5.8 from the 'combined' download, and I'll see if it fixes it. What a hassle.

  • Can't Send Mail Via HughesNet SMTP Server

After installing 10.5 I find that I can receive mail from my ISP (HughesNet) but I can't send mail through the smtp server. I've tried every setting possible and even duplicated the settings off my wife's 10.4.10 iMac and I still can't send mail. All I see is that the smtp service is "Offline."
Fortunately, I have a .Mac account so I can send mail using that smtp server. But I'd like to be abel to use my HughesNet server.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

My mom uses RoadRunner by Time Warner. She was able to receive email using Leopard and Mail but not send. SMTP server was the big problem like everyone else here experienced. We finally were able to get it to work using many ideas here. What we did:
    1) Delete com.apple.mail.plist from the User/Library/Preferences folder (BACK UP YOUR EMAIL FIRST)
    2) Open Mail and create a new account but disable the automatic set-up feature, put your info in manually.
    3) Uncheck " Use only this server" from the outgoing mail
    4) Under the Advanced tab on Mail Prefs "port set to 25", Uncheck "SSL" box, and uncheck "Use Authentication"
    5) Now hit Create
It took Mail about 20 minutes to contact the SMTP server, but it did and now I can send and receive Mail without any problems on her computer.
Bad Apple...stop criticizing MS and Vista when your own house is not in order yet. Hope this helps someone out there.....

  • Can I sync Mail via USB with my PowerBook?

I have a new iPhone 4S and a PowerBook G4 17" with 2 GB of RAM that is in mint condition.  I understand that I won't get e-mail from a Mail account directly on my PowerBook once I convert from MobileMe to iCloud, unless Apple or a third party develops an "app for that".  No way do I want to buy a whole new Mac just for iCloud.  Given the ability to sync music and photos between iPhone and PowerBook right now via the USB cord for my iPhone, can I also sync my Mail via USB if I upgrade to iCloud on my iPhone?

You may sync your mac with iPhone via iTunes, as always with iPhones, check whether version is compatible with last iOS. Then your iPhone may sync with iCloud. I still have a 12 in PB made in 2004, it works fine with my iPhone, just it is older, the first iPhone on the market, it sill works fine, no need to replace it.
Before testing anything, backyp your data, just in case you make a mistake, always do that.

  • Can't send mail via airport express

I'm trying to set up an airport network for my Mom. She has a MacBook running 10.6.1 and Roadrunner is her ISP. I have the cable modem attached via ethernet cable to the airport express (BTY, I tried my airport extreme and have the same problem). I can use the internet and can retrieve mail but I CANNOT SEND MAIL. Everything else including the printer woks fine on the network. RoadRunner support verified that my network and e-mail account settings are correct. They claim it is an issue with the Mac. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the discussions!
You didn't mention this in your post, but I assume that you have power cycled the network, correct?
If not, power everything down for a few minutes. Start the modem first and let it run 2-3 minutes alone. Then start the Airport Express and let it run 2-3 minutes and finally your printer and computers. Any help?
If not, and you have a good internet connection, it is a question of settings or the mail application itself. What mail application are you using?

  • Cannot send message via iCloud with movie

Email is sent if I remove my embedded/attached 23MB Quicktime movie is removed but not with the movie - via iCloud.
and my other (non-iCloud) account doesn't send any mail at all.
What is problem(s), please?  How to trouble shoot?  TIA

Thank you for info, but I am struggling with using it.
I went into #3 stmp.me.com.myname[STMP] and made changes I wanted to be in conformity with instructions of  iCloud: Mail server information.
So now the Account info reads 1:  Description = my email address at [email protected]
                                                          2:   Server name = stmp.me.com
3:  Default port 587 was already active
4:  Authentication = Password (my iCloud password from Keychain                                                                                                                                              access)
                                                            5: Username = my name
6:  Password = (my iCloud password from Keychain access)
But got this alert:  "Could not save changes.  The servers marked  with alert icons are in conflict and cannopt be saved.  Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings.   Resolve the conflicts and try again."
I think (look but guessing) that my changes to #3 become in conflict with #4 -- and I don't see how to get out of the conflict (other than not saving the changes I made to #3 in accordance with iCloud: Mail server information.)
    I am lost!  Should I delete #4?  confused and anxious . ....
(Sorry about confusing formatting of post but Apple won't let me show it like I want)

  • Can't send mail to people with "åäö" in their names

This possible bug seems ridiculous, but it should be easy to reproduce, if it indeed is a bug.
I've got a Scandinavian letter Ä in my name. If I try to send mail with my real name OR to an address that has a firstname/lastname with ÅÄÖ in them, the mail won't leave the iPhone. I see the progress bar "Sending..." but it won't move. There's no error message. I simply end up with an unsent mail (which, btw, I haven't find a way to delete. There's no Outbox folder in the phone.)
The mail works fine, if I send mail to names that use A instead of Ä, that is, convert the names to ASCII. It doesn't matter which SMTP server I use, as long as the server itself works. It's the same (mis)behavior with MobileMe, Gmail and the local 3G operator.
Can someone else reproduce this? For example, set your email account to:
    Föö Bär <[email protected]>
or try sending mail to that address from your iPhone.
Thanks for any ideas or confirmations.

Looking at the XCode Organizer's logs for the iPhone, here's what it says when trying to send mail to people who have "åäö" in their name:
For Gmail with SSL: Thu Jul 17 20:56:59 unknown MobileMail[111] <Warning>: Exception raised while processing message body loading queue: * -[NSConcreteData initWithContentsOfFile:options:error:]: nil file argument
For my ISP's smtp server without SSL: Thu Jul 17 20:53:25 unknown MobileMail[111] <Warning>: ERROR: The connection to the server "(null)" failed.
For MobileMe's smtp server with SSL: Thu Jul 17 20:58:27 unknown MobileMail[111] <Warning>: ERROR: The recipient "<i've hidden my email address...>" was rejected by the server.
Note: all those servers do send mail = work just fine, if I don't send email to addresses that have "åäö" in them. But in real life that's hard, because the Reply button automatically grabs the recipient's name from the From field. And often the +original sender+ has sent the mail with his/her real name = with Scandinavic letters. Replying to that mail gets stuck.

  • I can't send mail via hotmail. I can read new mail, but can not reply or send new messages.

I am using a mac powerbook, 2004 running MAc os x. Yes, I know it is old. But I only use if for e-mail. this week, I can't send or reply to messages via firefox or any other browser. I can't succesfully download updates. Can you advise?
    thanks
    Sharon

Go to Mail Preferences- Accounts and confirm you are providing Gmail what they require to send and receive mail. And DON'T specify Secure Socket Layer. Some mail accts don't like SSL
    Good Luck to you.

  • Can't send mail through iCloud (Web)

I've been uable to get mail from Mail on my MBP for 18 hours now. It works on my iPad & iPhone and just now strted to work on iCloud web. I've been receiving email on iCloud web NOT to send mail. When I Reply to an email and hit the SEND button, the "TO" address dissapears and the reply is nowhere to be found. Not in Draft, not in Sent. NOWHERE. What's going on Apple. ALL MY THREE me.com accounts in Mail (MBP) have been offline for 18 hours now!!

    Hey vastphoto,
Not sure if this helps, but I've been unable to sync my icloud mail with the mac mail client (I think that's what you say your problem is) for the past couple of weeks. I stopped today and looked up the issue and did a little change and voila, it seems to be working fine now.
I'm not sure if this IS the fix and I'm honestly perplexed as to why you'd need to do this, BUT…
Open the mail client ->Preferences (Select iCloud account) -> Account Information (initial display) -> Under the 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):
check and see if it says: smtp.me.com
if so then Click pull down -> Edit SMTP Server List (select smtp.me.com) -> change 'Server Name' (towards the bottom) to: smtp.icloud.com -> Click OK -> save it and 'maaaaaybeeeeeee' it's fixed?
This seemed to work for me, not sure why, but it did. Good luck.

    Hi
No Problem that's what we're here for!
Yeah if you plug your device in to iTunes and back-up all your data. For Apple help & support on backing up Click Here.
Once it's all backed if you go into Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings this will then take you to the initial set-up.
To save you having to call you can register your replacement SIM Here.
I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed that this works!
Let me know how you get on.

  • I can't send mail via Mail

After working perfectly for the last year, as of monday of last week everytime I try to send mail from the Mail program on my Mac
    I get the following message:
The sender address ------.com was rejected by the server
If I go to my internet service providers web site and use their Web Mail
    it works perfectly.
    any suggestions?

BarbCasey, Welcome to the discussion area!
It sounds like your account in Mail is misconfigured.
That error is telling you that you are trying to send using an email address not recognized by the sending mail server.
For example, you would get this error if your sending email address is [email protected] and you try to send using smtp.mac.com. The smtp.mac.com server will only allow you to send using @mac.com addresses.
Simarily, you would get this error if your sending email address is [email protected] and you are trying to send using smtp.verizon.net. The smtp.verizon.net server will only allow you to send using @verizon.net addresses.
