Can't Send Mail with Same Outgoing Server
I have 2 Roadrunner accounts that use the same outgoing smtp server. In order for me to send email (receiving POP email is not a problem), I have to set the outgoing server for port 25, no SSL and no authentication. I can get one of the accounts to work. But, when I try to set up the 2nd roadrunner account with the same settings on the same outgoing server, I get an error from OSX mail telling me the following:
"Could not save the changes
The servers marked with alert icons are in conflict and cannot be saved. Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings. Resolve the conflicts and try again."
Can someone help me figure out how to get around this? I'd really like to send mail from my accounts.
Thanks!

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but can't you have both accounts use the same SMTP server? If you're still trying to create the second account using the account creation wizard, I'd try giving it dummy SMTP information, then change it to use the real SMTP server once the account is created.

Hi,
I have two different IMAP accounts, and I can't send mail with either of them. I receive it just fine, but can't send. One of them just switched to ESMTP (I'm not entirely sure what that means), and said that many mail programs are not yet compatible with it. I know that both accounts can send, as I can send from them on the web.
I have tried switching from port 25 to port 587, with no luck. Regardless of what I do, the program displays a window saying, "Sending the message content to the server failed." I haven't been able to send for a little over a week now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksTonight I have been suddenly unable to send e-mail from my mac.com address.
The problem is the same whether I try to send from my G4 laptop running OS 10.4, or my eMac running OS 10.3.9 , or from .mac web mail.
The alert I am receiving says: "The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server."
I am using the SMTP outgoing mail server, not POP.
I can still receive e-mail with no difficulty.
I have changed no settings.

Receiving mail, but can't send mail with attachments?
Hello,
I can't send mails anymore, I have been able to send some without any attachments (i.e. reply doesn't work as it automatically attaches the original text). This started 3 days ago. Also, my mail doesn't seem to recognize powerpoint and word docs., but I a know the people who have send me such files do not have VISTA. When I choose "open with" then it works. So I have 2 problems, one being moe urgent then the other.
1) can't send mail with attachments
2) .doc (word), .pps (powerpoint)attachments are not always recognized.
thank you all!!!Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works

Can't Send Mail Via HughesNet SMTP Server
After installing 10.5 I find that I can receive mail from my ISP (HughesNet) but I can't send mail through the smtp server. I've tried every setting possible and even duplicated the settings off my wife's 10.4.10 iMac and I still can't send mail. All I see is that the smtp service is "Offline."
Fortunately, I have a .Mac account so I can send mail using that smtp server. But I'd like to be abel to use my HughesNet server.
Does anyone have any suggestions? My mom uses RoadRunner by Time Warner. She was able to receive email using Leopard and Mail but not send. SMTP server was the big problem like everyone else here experienced. We finally were able to get it to work using many ideas here. What we did:
1) Delete com.apple.mail.plist from the User/Library/Preferences folder (BACK UP YOUR EMAIL FIRST)
2) Open Mail and create a new account but disable the automatic set-up feature, put your info in manually.
3) Uncheck " Use only this server" from the outgoing mail
4) Under the Advanced tab on Mail Prefs "port set to 25", Uncheck "SSL" box, and uncheck "Use Authentication"
5) Now hit Create
It took Mail about 20 minutes to contact the SMTP server, but it did and now I can send and receive Mail without any problems on her computer.
Bad Apple...stop criticizing MS and Vista when your own house is not in order yet. Hope this helps someone out there..... -

Can't send mail with server -- upgrade OS?
I have a new MB, so have been setting things up. In the course of all this, I realized, what with checking settings, etc., that I can easily send mail from the new laptop, which is running whatever the latest OS is -- I think that's 15.5.5, but I have nearly constant difficulties with Mail on my desktop, which is running 15.5.2. I keep getting -- but not always -- messages saying mail can't be sent using the selected server; do I want to try another server or try later, or what. But on the laptop -- I don't get that at all.
I did a search on the Apple site and its recommendation? Upgrade the OS. Now, I can certainly do that, though I always hold my breath for fear something will go wrong and I'll break something that wasn't broken, so to speak.
Is anyone else having this issue? Did upgrading the OS stop it? I probably will have to, because I really do need the Mail program to work as it should. I'm getting ready to move to it from Entourage, but I can't if I can't send mail.I suddenly started having the can't send mail problem yesterday, and I'm on 10.5.5, so upgrading the OS is not a fix. I followed all the directions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1307?viewlocale=en_US
and that did not work. But it might, if quitting is done at the right time....
I don't know what fixed it, and I'm not sure if it will remain fixed (last night I fixed it on my own, only to find when I started up this morning that it wasn't working again), but today I followed the advice from another discussion to delete the outgoing server (in prefs/accounts/outgoing pulldown menu) and make a new one... make sure to delete all mail that is pending (anything in outbox save as draft and delete)... and to quit. In other words - follow the instructions on the support page or some of the other discussions, but quit before trying to send again. The other thing I did was do a software upgrade - there was something for airport and a security fix that I installed. Whether it was doing just the right stuff in just the right order or if it was the software installs that moved things along, I can't say. By the looks of it, this seems to be a long time issue for Apple Mail, though I've been using it for years without issue. -

powermac g4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)My girlfriend and I are RoadRunner customers and RR allows using an SMTP server outside of their network as long as the SMTP server is authenticated.
I set up my girlfriend's AOL account in Tiger Mail (and the only email account she uses) on my old TiBook that I loaned her until she purchases her own Mac and she sends mail with her AOL account with no problems.
The AOL SMTP server settings are as follows:
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.aol.com
Server Port: 587
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
Authentication Type: Password
User Name: Your AOL screen name or the portion of your AOL email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: The password for this screen name/email account - the same used for checking the account for new mail.
If your settings are the same, try deleting and recreating the account in Mail.
If this doesn't work and it should since it works for my girlfriend, you can select/use the RR SMTP server to send mail with your AOL account which is invisible to all recipients. -
Can´t send mail with 3g
I have problem with my outgoing server.
I have 3 outgoing servers:
Primary: mail1.comhem.se
Secundary servers: mailout.telia.com
smtprelay1.telia.com
It works well sending mails with Wifi but as soon it goes to 3g it doesn´t work any longer, and these messages pops up saying that address is not valid or connection timeout.
But as soon as it get back to Wifi, swoosch and away it goes!
What can be wrong? Have I missed something in the setup?
Receiving mail are no problem with 3g.When I used mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com it failed to send. It put the message in the Outbox and said the sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server.
I think that's because my roadrunner email is on the cinci.rr.com server and not the roadrunner.com server
I had it set up:
mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com
SSL off
Authentication: Password checked
server port 587 <-----note it wouldn't accept 597 here. The 587 port is there in all mail servers once they verify
In order for my mail to work with AT&T's network, I had to make their server the Primary:
Primary Server: cwmx.com
SSL off
Server Port 25
Authentication" Password checked
I've tried all these below as Secondary servers
smtp-server.cinci.rr.com
SSL off
Authentication: Password checked
server port 587
smtp-server.roadrunner.com
SSL off
Authentication: Password checked
server port 587
mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com
SSL off
Authentication: Password checked
server port 587 -
I cannot send mail with my ipod touch using my icloud account
I'm just posting this as I did for all these threads for the same issue:
Ok I think this problem here is Apple... It's a DNS problem. You get this problem depending on what smtp server you are registered on.
I always get the message that "p06-smtp.mail.me.com" failed...
But according to the nslookup command there are only the servers "p01, p02, p03, p04"... no p05 and p06 or p07 and p08 ...
What I did to get it to work (only considered as workaround):
first I tried to add a second SMTP server with the address "smtp.mail.me.com", it seemed that the mail went through... but never arrived... then I configured "p01-smtp.mail.me.com" as second server and it worked!!
What is the problem with this workaround?
When you change the password! As it doesn't accept the Apple Token you must configure your Apple ID credentials manually... however when you change them, you have also to change the manually configured second SMTP server! -

Can't Send Mail With Entourage
I am able to send mail via my SMTP server from my office network, but not from my home network. If I try and send mail from home, I get the following:
Entourage cannot connect to the server. Verify that your computer is connected to the network.
I can receive fine, just can't send.I am not positive, but it sounds to me as if your home ISP is blocking SMTP on port 25 to your work email server. If so, you have a couple of options. If your work mail server has an alternative port for SMTP submission, tell entourage to use that port, instead of port 25 (often port 587). I think that is under your account settings in the advanced options for SMTP. The other option is to use your ISP's outgoing mail server. The catch here is that you will need to switch SMTP servers when not at home, and back again when you are. As I recall, Entourage is not very good about letting you store more than one SMTP server per account, so that will be a manual change at each location. Hope that helps...

Suddenly can't send mail with Comcast.
Just thought I'd add my experience to the chorus. Use Mail on a G4 PB running latest version of Tiger with Comcast as ISP. Few days ago kept getting the message that port 25 timed out. I questioned Comcast, and got a standard reply to try port 587, which I did, and which works. I can now send mail through port 587.
Question though: Is this a Comcast problem, or an Apple Mail problem. It seems like it cannot be a coincidence that "can't send mail" seems to be a hot topic all of a sudden, and that it involves various ISP's and platforms. I haven't heard the word "virus" mentioned. In my mind, it's a silly attempt by ISPs to limit/cut off SPAM, not that that is a silly idea in and of itself, but changing the Port number isn't going to last very long, add to that not notifying Users/Paying customers before hand is negligent if not criminal!
The Spammers probably knew and adjusted to the change before the first Customer figured it out.
