Can't send messages through my phone number

When I send a message it's sent through my iCloud email and not my phone number. I went into message settings but it won't let me use my phone number as a option to reach me. Please help.

If I understand correctly you are indeed signed into your Apple ID in Settings > Messages, but your phone number is not checked for use under You Can Be Reached By iMessage At:. I would sign out of, then back into your Apple ID in both FaceTime and iMessage. That should get your number linked with the Apple ID again:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.

Ok. You don't have to select your number. Just check your email under your "grey" number and then at the bottom of this page you will see the option "Start new conversations from". Select your number.

HT3529 How can I get my MacBook Pro and my Ipad2 to send messages from my phone number instead of from my e-mail (apple ID)?

I want the same conversations on my ipad and MacBook as I do on my iphone 5.

On your Mac open the Messages app, click on Preferences>Accounts>Start New Conversations From:
Select your phone number from the list
On your iPad, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive>Start new conversations from:
Select your Phone number from the list

I was hacked by the "whats app" email and had changed all my passwords (gmail, apple ID, etc), my mail app on my laptop is signed in to my gmail as per usual and is receiving mail but not sending mail. How do I get it to send mail again? Also is it ok to have the same gmail account used (as my mail and applied ID) after the hack or should I completely reset everything? Ie. get a new email address…So frustrated and confused, please help!!

It's normal for your phone number to be grayed out in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on your phone because it can't be changed. If you phone number is listed there it should also be listed further down under "Start new conversations from". If you tap your number there to select it, your messages will be identified to others as coming from your phone number, not your email address.
Is you phone number listed there on your phone?

How can I send imessages from my phone number instead of my email?

My phone reset and now my imessages only send from my email address instead of from my phone number. I tried settings> messages> send and receive and unchecked the email listed like i saw to try on previous questions, but instead of fixing my problem, it just made it so that now i cant send imessages whatsoever! How can i fix this? I just want to send imessages from my number instead of my email address!

Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, and click on your Apple ID and sign out of Messages. Then sign on again. Sometimes it needs to reset itself....

TS3991 How can I send messages through the messages icon on my Ipad 3?

I see that there is a messages icon ( for short message service) on my Ipad-3 however I don't seem to be able to use it the way I do it on my Iphone.
Is there a possibility to use this icon on the Ipad as well?

The Messages icon on your iPad is not for "short message service" (more commonly known as SMS) - it is for Apple's iMessage service.
