Can't Send Outgoing Mail Since OS4

I have three e-mail accounts on my iPhone. They all worked perfectly until I upgraded to OS4. Two of the accounts, yahoo and gMail work fine. The third account that is through my ISP, can't send out anymore. I receive mail OK on the account.

I put my new password into the outgoing server. I only had it in the incoming server

I would manually go over each smtp setting and compare it with the mail providers guide
and if they were 100% the same then I would
get in touch with the phone company to verify if they were blocking the ports being
    used by the mail service
there is no general issue with ios5 removing out going mail services or blocking ports

  • Can't send outgoing mail

Since downloading IOS 7 I cannot send email.  I shut email down and that didn't work and I rebooted the iPad and that didn't work.  The spot settings are correct as I was able to send mail before the upgrade.  I didn't change anything except the IOS system.  Seems like Apple dropped the ball somewhere.

You answered two of my questions - Earthlink is the email account provider so I'm assuming Earthlink is also your internet service provider but you didn't answer this question.
What is the exact error message provided?
You never signed up for a .Mac trial account but you are prompted to use .Mac's SMTP server when unable to send a message with Earthlink's SMTP server?
I also access an Earthlink account with the Mail application - which is from an old dial-up account which I don't actively use for internet access and I have no problems sending messages with my Earthlink account.
Earthlink switched to an authenticated SMTP server many moons ago and if you have not changed the setting to authentication, this is likely the cause of the sending problem.
First you need to get rid of the .Mac account information.
Go to System Preferences > .Mac.
Remove any information available under the Account tab - .Mac member name and password if anything is available in these spaces.
Go to Mail > Preferences and under the Account Information tab for your Earthlink account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the blue button next to the SMTP server selection. At the menu window that appears, select Edit Server List at the bottom.
Select the .Mac SMTP server and then the Remove Server button. Select Done when finished.
Select the Server Settings button below the SMTP server selection for Earthlink's SMTP Server.
I use the following settings with no sending problems.
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
Server Port: 587 - but if Earthlink is your internet service provider, 25 should work.
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
    Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response
User Name: Your entire Earthlink email address.
Password: Your Earthlink account password - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.
If any changes are made, select OK to save the changed settings.

  • Can't send any mail since Safari 3.2 update

I have updated Safari to v.3.2 and been unable to send any mail ever since. I use Mail 3.5. I've tried everything, checked all the settings, still doesn't work. It's Ok to receive mail. When I try to send anything I get the message "e-mail address rejected by the smtp server".
On my PC mail is working just fine. Please help me if you know how to fix it.

Same with me! No mail goes out anymore! It just says "Sending" in perpetuity, even if there's nothing in the Outbox!

  • Can't send outgoing mail on Exchange

Mac Mail—I have an exchange account set up, incoming mail works perfectly. Like a dream, in fact. We are two mac-using designers at a 20-person PC environment.
When I go to send a test email, I get "Cannot send message using the server 'exchange:companyname.com'". Our admin has the server set up to enable IMAP, we've tried a number of possible server/user phrasing combinations in the Outgoing Mail Server field and no dice. Any help is appreciated. Don't wanna use Entourage or worse Outlook via Parallels. Don't. Wanna.
    thanks 1 million,
    Anthony

I have been having the exact same issues with my mail. Today I went into Mail > Preferences > Accounts
Click on "Edit Server list" under the Outgoing Mail Server
    Click Advanced
Change the Autentication type (mine was set as NTLM)
By switching to "password" and using: exchange server/user name and my exchange password I got the outbound mail to work.
    Hope this helps

  • I can't send outgoing mail

I get a message saying can't send message using server acct. I tried connection dr. and it says my mail is connected to internet though .mac and smtp accts don't seem connected. I checked my disk on disk utility and repaired permissions. It just started happening a few hours ago.

    Helene,
From your post it appears that you have more than one email account. A possibility is that the plist file has become corrupted in which case one thing you could try is to close Mail, move the file com.apple.mail.plist from the folder <home>/Library/Preferences to the desktop and then re-open Mail. You will have to re-create your IMAP and/or POP email accounts.
If you have a Mobile Me account or a .mac account then at this point Mail will find those account details and open the viewer window in default mode and show those messages. Re-size the Mail window and the preview pane to how you prefer. I you have other IMAP or POP accounts then you will have to set them up but rest assured that your existing mail messages you have stored on your Mac will be there. All of the sidebar entries will show up minimized so click on the little triangles to open them up. Re-create your accounts and check that you can send and receive from each. You will have to edit your preferences. If you previously had Signatures and Rules then you will have to re-create them too.

  • Cannot send outgoing mail since 10.9.5 update.  Very frustrating.  Any suggestions?

Since a recent 10.9.5  update, Mail will receive but not send.  The listing out outgoing smtp servers was gone.  I re-entered the servers.  I got my Gmail account to work yesterday, but not the other two accounts.  Today not even the Gmail account worked in Mail. Any suggestions?

  • Can't send outgoing mail or have file folders

I'm not having any problems receiving incoming mail but outgoing isn't happening. I receive an error message but sadly, it doesn't stay up long enough to copy it verbatim and I can't get the full message in the activity log either. It's something about not being able to connect the IMAP...may exceed # of connections. I have 2 e-mails set up for this. I've double and tripled checked all settings. I'm at a complete loss. Any help or clues to follow will be appreciated.

  • Outgoing SMTP server says "offline" can't send e-mails

Set up new iCloud e-mail. Incoming mail works. Outgoing SMTP server says "offline." Can't send e-mails from this account. Need info on how to set it up. Thanks.
    M

You might want to try signing out of your iCloud account, then back in.  Go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac, then sign back in.
This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  It will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in, after a brief delay as it redownloads.

  • IPhone can send outgoing mail, Macbook can't from same wifi

I have a local wifi spot that I spend a lot of time at and all of the sudden I'm unable to send outgoing mail from my MacBook but ougoing mail works fine on my iPhone using the exact same wifi.
Mail works fine when I'm at home, and my house, as well as the public wifi have the same ISP. (smtp.cox.central.net)
The connection doctor has a green light on and says it's connected to all outgoing servers but stil won't send anything.
I've read tons of threads and have stumbled onto a couple hints to add the ISP's DNS numbers to my account settings, but I don't know how to do that.

The SMTP servers you're using will probably need to be adjusted, when you send from the local wifi spot. That or you need to use authenticated SMTP (like .Mac).

I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'what settings are you using in the accounts part of mail preferences', but I'll give you as much information as I can in the hopes that some of it is responsive.
In "preferences" I select "accounts" and there are 3 listed:
    'personal gmail' (IMAP)
    'business gmail' (IMAP)
    'Yahoo' (POP)
For each of the above, the "Account Information" tab gives:
    description: [username]
email address: [correctly reflects my address]
    full name: [my name]
    Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    user name: [my username]
password: [*** - I've re-entered to ensure it is my true password]
    outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com:username
Is it all in the same format on the iphone?
This is the same information for the 2 gmail accounts, with the exception of the usernames differing. If I click "server settings" at the bottom, it reflects the outgoing mail server "smtp.gmail.com" server port 25, my correct user name and password.
Again, different names for the different accounts, right? And this is the same port etc. as you put into the iphone
All of the above information matches what I input into my iPhone, and it has worked fine since day 1, so I don't understand the malfunction.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Console. Make sure console.log and system.log are open (or see the File menu).
    Try to send an email.
Look for new lines in the log files (it should scroll down automatically so the newest lines are at the end of the log at the bottom of the window). What do you see? (Erase or substitute for any personal info before posting.)
Do you use any firewall software or have you used third-party software or Terminal to configure the builtin firewall?

  • Yay - got Mountain Lion. Boo - can't send e-mail

I've just downloaded and installed Mountain Lion and now can't send e-mail.
I'm getting mail OK, but when I try to send I get a message saying both of my e-mail accounts are offline.
I've checked settings again against those on iPhone and they're right.
I've tried clicking Take All Account Online, and it's greyed out, but I still can't send.
What's gone wrong in the upgrade?

I was having this problem with my O2 email aswell. I found a fix that worked for me. go in to mails preferences, choose the accounts tab and click on one of your O2 accounts. find the drop down menu for the outgoing servers and choose 'edit server list'. click on the O2 smtp server then click on the advanced tab. there are 2 check boxes, one for 'use preferred ports' and one for 'use custom port'. mine was set to preferred port, I changed to 'use custom port' and used port number 25. this worked for me, hope it works for you too. you'll obviously need to make sure the port you choose is open in your firewalls.
    Thanks Kid4today!

  • Broke what didn't need fixing -- can't send e-mail

I upgraded to Leopard yesterday, and have lost the ability to send e-mails. I talked to the guy at Cox this morning, and he says he's hearing this a lot lately -- that Leopard and Cox (and maybe others?) are having problems. Something about security, he thinks, but he's not with Apple so he doesn't know what they did with Leopard that "broke" what was working fine with Tiger/Panther/Wombat/whatever releases of OSX.
It won't accept my password, and insists that my outgoing SMTP server is offline, while it still lets me receive mail.
I'm fairly cheesed off by this, and REALLY hoping Apple's working on a fix for this.
Had I known this sort of thing was possible, I wouldn't have upgraded. Grrr.
    Tony

First, This is the most frustrating thing!! I am having the same problem as the others on this thread. I post to let apple know this is a real problem for a lot of people and it needs to be addressed ASAP. I can't send mail on either of my accounts on my macbook but I can send on both on the PowerMac.
I have 4 macs on my network and the only one with this problem at this time is my MacBook Pro. I had this problem on my Power Mac a few months ago and finally fixed it by deleting my account in mail and re-creating. That has not worked this time. When I look a the 2 computers (the macbook and powermac) the mail accounts are setup exactly the same. I have tried every suggestion on this and other boards without success. Can't send any mail (told can't connect to server and/or accounts always offline and option to change grayed out. Have tried ports 25, 587 and 990 with no luck.
I upgraded to Leo on the day it came out and did not start having a problem with mail on the macbook until this week. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH Leopard when it comes to mail, Safari and networking in general. I have had a number of very odd experiences since the upgrade. Not all of us are suddenly screwing up our email and only doing it since the install of Leo.
Had this problem in Tiger once and had to change the port from 25 but that was all that was necessary.

  • Can't send outgoing messages using hotmail on iPhone 4

Help! I've just switched from iPhone 3 (where I used my hotmail with no probs) to iPhone 4 and have been setting it up as I had it before. I've added my hotmail account and incoming emails are received but it won't let me send outgoing mail. It keeps asking for a password but when I enter it (and re-enter it over and over again) it keeps asking for the password! Has anyone else had this problem?

So you went thru the apple support link that I gave you and still can't text.
Then you restored and reset the phone and still can't text.
    Call the carrier  - ?
Look I've been giving you some troubleshooting tips, that I would give anybody else who is having issue with sending text message.
Your last resort after doing all the fixes would be to call the carrier.
Call your fiancee carrier and see what they say.
