/etc/resolv.conf looks fine.

is there any way to simulate a dns query similar to what the MTA is trying to do?

  • One particular user can't send to outside domains. "Relay access denied"

I'm having a problem whereby one particular user of a mail domain I'm hosting can't send to external addresses. She can send to internal addresses, and other users can send to external addresses, but when she tries to send to an external address, this is what appears in the postfix log:

If others can send then most likely the mail client is not authenticating properly. Either it is trying to use a non supported authentication method or simply a wrong password.

  • Send as external domain?

    Hi all,
How do I configure Exchange to be able to send as an external domain? I have a closed relay which requires authentication, which works on the user's mailbox but not on external domains we don't own.
There's one email I need to be able to send as, or "on behalf of". When I go to send an email I get this error through Outlook:
"Error 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions..."
Under Mailbox delegation I can add recipients but obviously a mailbox not on this server will not show. I added a "Contact" but this didn't show either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You can make the domains accepted domains and create recipients for the addresses from which you want to send.  Using distribution groups for these addresses may be easier than mailboxes since they won't collect mail and use disk space.
Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
Problem is that I don't want to receive emails on an external domain. I just want to send as a particular email address on an external domain outside the network?
E.g. I want [email protected] to be able to send as [email protected] but not to receive CompanyB.com emails as CompanyA need to be able to send to CompanyB and to the [email protected] email address.
    Thanks for your help

  • Please Help - Can't send to External Hard Drive

I am in the project manager - I am copying and sending to new location - E Drive, external hard drive.
But, when I try it stops and says this:
"There was a problem... please make sure you have enough disk space..."dude, i got 500gigs and the project is 13 gigs (so that's not the problem) ... then it says: "make sure you have the correct user privileges to complete the operation."
    what?
This is my software, my license, my computer, and my project. of course I have user privileges.
    Please help...

There's a chance that nothing's wrong with your drive, and that it's one particular piece of media in your timeline that's choking the project trimmer & causing it to abort with a generic error.
I'm guessing that you're probably cutting an hour-long DV project. Are any of your clips not DV? Anything ripped from a DVD, perhaps? If you suspect certain clips are tripping you up, try removing them temporarily (make a backup of your master project file, just in case!) & try the trimmer again.
If you can't make an educated guess, you can fall back on this method: make a copy of your project. Delete half of the timeline; trim again. Does it fail? If so, split the remainder in two, trim again. Keep going until it doesn't fail anymore. In this manner, you'll be able to narrow down what clip(s) is giving you trouble.
If you do pinpoint a particular clip that won't trim, please let me know what it is. I'd like to take a look...
    Cheers

  • Can't send emails to domains with the new TLDs .care .events .credit

I recently got some of those new TLDs for our business and while I think they're great for short urls and links etc I don't see this picking up anytime soon. Most people I know think that the internet won't work unless you add .au at the end of stuff.
Having said this I now also discovered that my BlackBerry Z10 wont let me send emails to these domains since it thinks it's not a real domain. (which is funny since they've applied for .blackberry)
Is there a fix on the horizon for this soon?

Thanks for posting about this @numnut

  • Can not SEND to external emails

Customer I support is having Blackberry device issue:
I use the Desktop Manager to sync my BB emails.   This morning, after our server with BES on it was rebooted (and, my computer was still on at the time), i discovered that I could no longer send emails outside the office.  I can send internally and also can receive emails both internally and from outside addresses.  My BB phone service works.   No other BB user in the office suffering this problem.  What can I do?

I don't think I've messed other blocklimits than those in my post.
I know that service.http.maxmessagesize and service.http.maxpostsize are for webmail only.
I can send big mails but I can not RECEIVE big mails. That's the problem.
In my previous post I've pasted the error messages.

  • Can't send email from internal server, same domain name as external.

We have a domain "example.com", hosted externally, for email and a website.  We are thinking of hosting email 'inhouse' and have setup a dedicated subdomain on a 'fixed' IP, "mini.example.com" for AFP services mainly. mini.example.com provides DNS internally, its primary zone is also example.com. All access to the external web goes thru' a modem/router that the server is connected to. We have to set an A record for www access to our website.
In our testing to migrate email, the internal setup works fine, until the switch over.  Now we can receive mail to the mini server, but can't send any out.
We instructed our webhost provider to set the CNAME mail.example.com to point to mini.example.com and created a cPanel MX extry mail.example.com, 10 priority.  Previously, the external host had CNAME as mail.example.com to example.com and MX as example.com, 10 priority.
Since the implementation of the CNAME change, we can't send emails out and they get stuck at the outbox waiting. Client Mail app, says to check for port and SSL and account settings.
Any idea where we went wrong here and what we can do to get emails out? We could go to each computer and point-off the DNS to office IP, but we rather not.
    Thanks!

Thank you Camelot and MrHoffman for your replies.
I got in this am to find Mail.app could actually send out emails and I'm stratching my head wondering what happened yesterday.
SMTP server addresss was manually set to mail.example.com for all accounts. In trying to get things to work, the mail setup was redone again by "Accounts", in Systems Preferences, when Login is clicked on, and mail was automatically given a SMTP as mini.example.com instead of mail.example.com.  I'm guessing that that could be where the initial 'inside' problems were, given that it had a 0 answer to the MX query. Or then again I wasn't patient enough.
Just for completeness, and if there's something to learn from here, these are the dig results for example.com as seen from within the office network.

  • Problem in workflow sending mails to external domains like yahoo, gmail etc.

    hi
i have one probs in my workflow that when i am sending mail to an external id it is not going to gmail, yahoo or hotmail etc.
it is being send to a particular domain say XYZ
but outside it ,no mail is send
and error is coming that recepient is unknown
we have firewalls being placed on smtp
and each and every setting in SCOT has been checked thorughly
but still mail except to one domain is not going outside
i have came across the info that since SAP doesn have any user id authentication but SMTP does has ,so when mail is being send outside the mail sending is failed, one option could be to disable the authentication at SMTP but thats doesn come inside the policy of client
so i think there must be a way out in SAP to deal with this
please suggest how can i send the mails externally,i ahve checked each and every thing inside my SMTP configuration ,adress is defined as * here  but still mail is being send to internal domain of the client in which i am working ,but not at all to the external domains like gmail, yahoo etc.
any help will be highly appreciated
    best regards
    ashish

    Hi Ashish,
I think you will need to check with your exchange guys because probably the exchange server will not relay the messages form the SAP server to external e-mail domains.

  • Can iron port supports auto mail reply for external domains

    Hi everybody,
We have a requirement, that our mail security gateway (ironport) should be configured in such a way that it should send the automatic mail reply for  the external domains.
Can any one suggest, It can be configured or not....Post any related article..
    Thanks
    Siva

    Hello Siva,
There are some details that would be needed, to understand if you intend to send auto-replies to external domains or to senders that are sending to those domains. The example below will automatically send a notification to the sender, to confirm receipt of  the message. This based on the recipient addresses. Typically used for requests for info from websites etc.
    Assumptions for this filter:
    Public listener name = InboundMail
    Rcpt to = [email protected]
Subject Line for notification = "Receipt for message:" with the original subject line ($Subject).
Reply to address for the notification = [email protected]
Template for notification body "AutoRespond_Info" already exists
    Considerations:
If  there are a number of mail rcpt addresses that require the same  notification, consider using a dictionary rather than specifying them in  the filter itself.
    Filter:
    AutoRespond_Info: if ((recv-listener == "InboundMail") AND (rcpt-to == "[email protected]")){
    notify ("$EnvelopeFrom", "Receipt for message: $Subject", "[email protected]","AutoRespond_Info");

  • Failed to send mail to external domain via portal

    Hi Gurus,
By following the configuraion instructions in <b>SAP library - Collaboration - Groupware - Installing and Configuring E-Mail Connectivity</b>, I managed to send mail to recipients who reside in same domain e.g. <b>[email protected]</b> via portal.

    Please help.
    Thanks alot.

    Hi Ajey,
Thanks for your reply. I had tried your suggestion but same problem occurred with same error output.
Actually, I encounterred this error message before in my <b>Microsoft Outlook</b>, where System Admin returned me a mail saying that, my mail was undeliverable with the same error message. But this can be solved by applying the <b>Internet Email Account Setting - Outgoing Server - My outgoing server (SMTP) require authentication</b>.
    So I am wondering,
    1) This problem is caused by SMTP server?
    2) Is there any workaround (like the Outlook Setting) I can configure in Portal?
    Do you have any idea?
    Thanks,
    HauChee

  • Hosted Email Server can not send emails to certain domains including Hotmai

I host my own email server and domain, but when I try to send emails to certain domains Hotmail being one of them, It gets refused saying something about spamming, when I know I am not a spammer because only one of the users in my domain can actually send and receive emails.
Is there a list I can include my domain in, so that I can bypass the spammer status?
Any help is greatly appreciated it.
    Thanks!

This is getting common as people attempt to cut down the spam.
Check your reverse dns is correct, I'd suggest an external test like http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ against your system/domain is a good place to start.
In the case of the problems I had at home a while back this was down to my ISP not setting up the reverse DNS correctly. I got the Reverse DNS not matching the SMTP Banner i.e. IP address then ISP name:-
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.btopenworld.com
Microsoft and some other companies introduced a while back the use of SPF records, so check your zone file info to make sure this is there and valid.
http://old.openspf.org/index.html will help here, if you haven't got SPF set-up.
Some ISP's employ Goodmail systems, now which isn't a problem for small companies/home users sending small amounts of email, but will effect large companies.
If you're not sending large amounts of email to AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo etc this shouldn't effect you. Basically, it will force a 'drip feed' into their email systems. One company I worked at had to send email to customers, and this meant the first few emails would be accepted, then the server wouldn't accept more email for 20 minutes or so, then it would take another 5 emails, and so on....
Dynamic IP addresses, from your ISP can also cause huge problems. If you haven't got a fixed IP address, many systems will reject email. Even if you have a static IP address, ensure your ISP has this correctly allocated. Sometimes, you'll get it from the wrong range (ones which normally are Dynamic), and this will cause problems. 'Cheap state' ISP's can often allocate you a fixed IP, but because they have 'run out' of fixed addresses, they may pinch a dynamic one....
Some places check your MX records http://vger.kernel.org/mxverify.html will help here. It's a bit of a cheat, as large companies may not have the same outbound servers as inbound servers, but I have seen this cause problems when ALL the mail servers are not listed in the MX records.
The only one I wouldn't worry about too much is the Goodmail system, unless you're sending large amounts of email. But even then, they normally only slow email delivery down and not actually reject it.

  • Sending Mails to external domains

    Hi,
    Scenario:
    --I am having OCS 10g 10.1.2.3.0 on a singlebox RHEL ES Rel3 (taroon update4)
--I have an Exchange Server on another box with Microsft Exchange Server
--There is one more Proxy Server Box with firewalls having a proxy port to access the internet
I was able to send mails from Oracle Workspaces to the OCS local domain but not to the external domains like yahoo.com, hotmail.com
I was not able to ping the yahoo mail server or hotmail mail server, since the intenet connection is not a direct connection.
Can i have any workaround for this.. or how can i configure the current system to facilitate sending mails from OCS to other email domains also..?
    Many Thanks in advance..,
    Regards,

    Hi,
We are having the same problems (mail to external domains). I didn't catch what was done to correct the problem. Could you please repeat what was set.
    Thanks much,

  • Can I send email using my own domain address with iCloud the way I can with gmail?

Let's say I own mydomain.com and have a [email protected] email account.  I have set that up to forward to gmail, and that would be easy to switch to iCloud.  Here's the tricky part: gmail allows me to send email as [email protected]  I've been doing this for years and it works, but I'd like to switch from gmail to iCloud.  Can I set up this same behavior with an iCloud @me.com address (which I already have but haven't been using yet)?  I know I can obviously switch the forwarding of incoming mail to my @me.com address...  but can I send [email protected] email through iCloud the way I can with gmail?  All of my devices are Apple: a Mac Mini using Apple's Mail app, and an iPhone and an iPad both using the Apple email app, so I'd rather switch everything over from gmail to iCloud.
P.S.  Awe, c'mon Apple.  Don't turn those fake addresses into links.  I just used them for the sake of giving an example.

Ah, I should have made that clear.  My domain didn't come from google.  It was purchased at and is hosted at dreamhost, but I haven't used their email servers in years - I just route everything through gmail.  I actually have a bunch of domains (with websites).
Gmail has an option that lets someone with custom domains send (and receive) email through gmail using the custom domain once Google confirms proper ownership of the domain (to prevent spammers and such).  Gmail has a setting for "send email as" which allows gmail to be sent using a custom domain as the sender.  I'm pretty sure Apple's old mobileme had this feature too, but I didn't use it.

  • Can't send email to my own domain

The mail program on my iphone works fine, except for one thing - i can't send email to anyone using the domain name as me (our business has its own email domain).
Since most of my emails are to other people inside our business, this is very frustrating).
I am guessing I have done something silly in the set up, but am too much of a novice to figure it out.
    Any suggestions?

Sorry - typo in the above question. Should read:
"I can't send email to anyone using the SAME domain name as me"
    Tks.
