Can't set an alarm

I can't set an alarm in ical. When I go to the 'Alarm' option it is light grey and the drop down says either add alarm or remove alarm. There is no email address or other alarm option. My home card in address book is fillled out correctly.

Brian,
Do you have an event of to do selected, from an editable calendar (vs a subscribed to calendar or the birthday calendar)?

  • Can't set an alarm on Reminders.

I recently got the iPhone 5s, and have been having trouble with setting an alarm on the reminders app. When I set the date and time for the alarm, I hit done and I can see when the alarm is set for under the task. After about 5 seconds, the date disappears, and the alarm will no longer go off. Is there any way to fix this?

I think the problem is that reminders just doesn't work! Life's too short -  The best thing is to stop wasting time trying to figure out a completely dysfunctional app until you hear that apple have reverted to the old one, or bought out a new one that does work.
There - I've saved you loads of time and angst!

  • Nokia E51 - Can't set clock alarm tone

    Hey there people!
My device is Nokia E51, and for some, bizarre reason, I can't set the clock alarm tone.
When I choose the sub-menu "Clock alarm tone" a list of songs/audio files on the phone is supposed to load.... but nothing there. The phone doesn't even give me any options to choose from. I actually find this quite frustrating and annoying because I'm trying to do something very basic here.
    I've attached a capture.
    Thanks for helpers.

Well the reason I asked about the large number of audio files is because it appears to be a common bug across many of nokias phones.   When you have a large number of audio files (either on the card or on the phone itself) the phone apparently gets 'confused' and is unable to load up the selection of ringtones or music files to use as a ringtone.
The only solutions would be to either:
    1)  Delete songs until the ringtone menu goes back to normal
    2)  Do what you have done with copying it to the phone then removing the memory card to be able to select the file.. then reinsert the memory card
Nokia just needs to get their act together. They should seperate ringtones from the music files.  This way when you go to select a ringtone.. it will ask to either choose a ringtone from a list.. or to select one of your mp3s from a list. This way keeping it seperate.  But that would be extra menus to navigate and people probably wouldnt like it.
But if they did it that way then they could use the mp3 listings by album, artist, song title, etc to allow people to choose the music files they want as a ringtone.  It would be easier to do that then continually scroll through huge lists

  • How can I set an alarm clock set to a time zone?

    Hi,
I am about to go traveling quite a bit in multiple time zones. However, I have to take medication every 24 hours. I use the iPhone alarm to set a time. Is there a way I can adjust it so it goes off whenever it is, say 10pm in US eastern time zone even if I'm in another time zone and my iphone clock is local time?
    thanks!

    Hi, ralphsen01-
You can do this using window.scrollTo():
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3163615/how-to-scroll-html-page-to-given-anchor-using-j query-or-javascript
Please note that when you embed an Animate OAM into Muse, you're in effect putting it into an iframe.  Therefore, you need to call the parent window.  You can get more information on this by searching for "iframe to parent communication" in a search engine.

  • Can I set an alarm when external drive powers off?

I must be one of the few people who have no trouble at all with TM! I use it to back up about 1TB of photos (I am a semi-pro photographer) to two different drives - keeping one offsite at the office and rotating them regularly.
However - my external drive is hidden at home when connected. When we have a power outage (all too often here in MA) then the drive powers off and does not power on again (I am using MacAlly enclosures - have tried several, these are the most reliable to date).
Given that TM works so well, I never think to check if it has backed up so if the power has cycled I don't notice that TM has not run. Is there any way to set an alert (dialog box popup, auto email etc) to tell me when TM cannot access the drive as it is powered off. Is this buried in Leopard, or does anyone know of a 3rd party app?
    Thanks

I could not agree more with Kappy.
I would never plug either my Mac or my external into anything but a UPS. They've gotten much less expensive lately, and even a fairly small one ($100 to $130 or so) will run my Mac and external for an hour or so.
But you don't necessarily need even that much; just enough for your Mac to power itself down in an orderly manner.
If you have a power failure to either your Mac or external disk, it can corrupt your data. I'd recommend using Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) to do a +Repair Disk+ (not permissions) on your external, and a +Verify Disk+ (not permissions) on your internal. If the internal shows errors, you'll have to use the copy of DU on your Leopard Install disc to fix them. Post back if you need to do this but don't know how.

  • Can I set an alarm to tell me I have a text message waiting to be read?

Got Iphone 3G recently. Had an old Motorola phone before. When a text message came, it gave a little 'bip' every minute or so to let me know it was there?

  • Can you set an alert for birthdays in Addressbook and iCal?

When I migrated from Palm Calendar to iCal, my calendar had my birthdays in it repeating each year and with a 7 day alert so I could send a card or get a present in time.
I see you can list a birthday in Addressbook and set the iCal pref to show them which is at first glance very cool and green but when I open the birthday event in iCal I don't see any way to set an alert which is a big limitation.
If I can't set alerts, then the Addressbook/iCal birthday syncing is kind of pointless and limited, unless I'm missing how to set alerts.

    Hi Steven,
This is one of the reasons why I wrote Dates to iCal.
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries.

Why didn't you try the instructions mentioned in the article you linked?  Is it the same one mentioned in your model iPod's user manual - iPod Manuals

  • Can you set alerts specific for different calendars so when you create an event, the alert for the event is already set?

On google calendar if you had a calendar for work and one for school, you can set alerts for earch so when you add a class or work related event, the event is set with alerts for that calendar. Can you do that with iCal?

  • Set up alarm for monthly recurrance and especific dates

    good morning,
anyone knows how do I set up a monthly recurring alarm in the clock? Also, can I set an alarm with an especific date?, how do I set up a monthly recurring alarm in the clock? Also, can I set an alarm with an especific date?
    thanks,

It's an alarm clock, not a calendar. You can set alarms to repeat on various days of the week. You can't set it to recur monthly or on a specific date. For that, you'd need to use an alert in the calendar.
It's possible that there are alarm apps in the App Store that will do what you want. You'll need to do some searching.
    Best of luck.

Is there a way that iTunes can act as a Radio Alarm Clock?
I have found the radio station I enjoy listening to in the iTunes Radio List. Is there anyway iTunes (and my Mac) can be set to come-on from Sleep mode and start playing that Radio Station at specific times of the day?
Any App or plug-in that does that?
    Many thanks
    Kevin

Turning your Mac into a clock radio.
    1.  In iTunes create a playlist that contains just the radio station you want to wake up to.
    2.  Export the playlist (as .m3u works well).  Get Info on your playlist file and look at the Open With entry to make sure it points to iTunes, VLC or some other app that will stream your station.
    3.  In iCal create an event entry at the time you want to wake up.
    4.  Right (or Control) click on your wakeup event and select Get Info.
    5.  For "alarm" select Open File.
    6.  Now under Open File there will be a place to add the file to open.  It will probably be some default entry (like iCal).  Click on it will allow you to select "other."  Then use the file dialog to select your playlist file.
Your Mac will wake you up at the appointed time.  You don't need to keep iCal running.  If you want to put you Mac to sleep for the night then there is one more thing you need to do.  Open System Preferences to Energy Saver and click on the Schedule button.  Check Start up or wake and set the wake up time to slightly before your iCal alarm time.

  • I set an alarm with Siri. Can she only set one at a time, and how can I see/cancel it?

Title. I set an alarm, then shortly after asked her to set another alarm.
    1) are both alarms in effect?
    2) where can I see/cancel them? It says it can't modify or delete them.

Go to the Clock app and see if they are listed.  I just set two via Siri on my iPad and both are listed. I can turn them off or deleted (via edit button) the alarms.

  • Can't make an alarm that is set more than 24 hours in future with JSpinner

I have what I thought was a simple problem, but I can't seem to get past it, so I come to ask the experts.
I want to use a JSpinner to basically set an alarm. I am using the SpinnerDateModel and a DateEditor with the string "HHH:mm:ss". The reason there is three hour feilds is because what I really want is to be able to set it to any number of hours from 0 to 999. But there in lies my problem, it won't let me get past 24.
    What I have tried:
I changed the first H to D (or d, whichever is days in the year) but it wont work for me because it can't be zero.
I tried extending the DateEditor code, but this was next to impossible because the company I work for makes us have two machines on our desk, both are thin clients, one connects to the internet but we are not allowed/able to download anything, and it does not have java on it in any form. The other does not connect to the internet, and can not, it has Java on it, but not the source code for methods like DateEditor. So without seeing the source I have no clue what to override.
I really want to use the one JSpinner with the SpinnerDateModel, but if I can't figure this out then I could use seperate spinners for hours, minutes, and seconds though that looks really ugly and is far from ideal.
So please if anyone has any clue how I could solve this, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    JSG

I just tried out a JSpinner with the SpinnerDateModel and DateEditor using pattern "HH:mm:ss". Behind the scenes, you are still dealing with a date. If you look at what date gets returned, the first time you spin the spinner using that pattern, the year suddenly jumps to 1970. It's using a default year, because there is no year to spin within your pattern.
So long as you don't feel too guilty or uncool for using the date spinner in a manner that it was not intended, you could probably achieve your objective by abusing the date editor with a pattern like "SSS:mm:ss". That pattern is milliseconds (which conveniently go from 0 to 999), minutes, then seconds. When reading your spinner, just interpret the milliseconds as the hours, minutes as minutes, and seconds as seconds. The rest of the date just gets thrown away. Uncool. But should work.
Or you can be cool and write a custom editor and model, but depending on your experience level, this could be difficult and time consuming. But also comes with a greater feeling of achievement.
