Can't set 'Blank' on Second display

I've found that I can't set the second display to be plain blank, it still shows images the same as if it was set to 'Alternate'. I can set it to Desktop, but I prefer it to be plain black at times and not be a distraction.
Anybody else got this?
(yes, I've sent a feedback)

The implementation of dual display modes is ... indecipherable. It works, it just doesn't work in a way that I've been able to make sense of. The modes themselves are odd, the times when one can access the modes are odd, the changes in both of those betw. regular (windowed) and full-screen behavior are odd, and don't even start to think about how Aperture handles dual displays when you move the main window to your secondary display.
Here is what works for me, for "Blank" mode.
. Keep Aperture on your main display.
. Keep Aperture in regular (windowed) mode.
. Change to Browser view (not Split View or Viewer)
. "View→Secondary Viewer (note the wording!)→Blank" should now be available. Select it. Your second monitor should go blank (mine shows an 18% gray, but that could be my desktop setting).
Here's where it gets exciting. If you select an image in the Browser, the secondary viewer (usually) stays blank. If you double-click and change to Viewer mode, the secondary viewer stays blank. If you now double-click and return to browser mode, the selected image is shown on the secondary viewer even though "View→Secondary Viewer→Blank" is still selected. Press "v" to change to Split view, and the secondary viewer returns to a blank display. As long as you alternate betw. Viewer and Split views, the secondary viewer will remain blank. As soon as you switch to Browser, the selected images will show on the secondary viewer.
The take-away is
1. "Blank" doesn't really work, and
2. If the selections for Secondary Viewer are grayed-out, change to Browser view and try them again.

    how do i set up a second display for my iMac desktop?  I want to use both displays at the same time.  My iMac is the 24" Late 2006 model.  I recall that there is a cord for plugging in a second monitor, but I want to make sure that i can use both monitors side-by-side at the same time.  thank you.

    If the Display supports DVI, then you will need a > Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
    If the Display only supports VGA, then you wiil need a > Mini DVI to VGA Adapter and a VGA cable.
    Noting that the (digital) DVI is far better than the (analog) VGA connection.

  • How can I set up a second Contacts folder on my IPhone

    I have an Iphone and a Palm Pilot.  I want to stop carring the Palm, and have the contacts there put on the IPhone.
    I came upon Plaxo, which would allow me to sync from desktops and laptops to the net, as well as syncing with my IPhone.
    However, it appears that Plaxo will sync with the IPhone Contact folder, then wipe out the subset of numbers I keep there.  I want to keep the contacts separate - especially because of the ringer tone controls.
    Is there a way to create a second contact folder that I can sync with Plaxo, which will keep separate the current IPhone contacts in my existing Contacts folder?
    My existing contacts folder was created, in a way I which I knew, when I got the phone.  It is a 3G, using 4.2.1 (8C148)..

    If I can not set up a second Contacts folder, does anybody have an alternative way of having contact information that a person could see the information from an Outlook Format available for viewing?

    No.
    That would be illegal file sharing.

  • Can I set up a second iTunes library if away from my first?

    I started this post on MacBook Pro, but someone there thought I might get more specific answers here. He said 'yes', I could, by  holding 'alt/option' key while clicking to open iTunes, and selecting 'new library'. But he warned I might lose everything on the iPad. Anyone here have experence with this to know what does happen?
    Here is my original post:
    I'm in France on a journey. I have an iPad with me, and want to download new books I buy off Amazon into my Kindle software on this iPad. When I tried to do this, I'm told it can't be done without having access to my iTunes library.
    Unfortunately, my main iTunes library lives on an external hard drive back home in California. I loaded music onto an iPod so I wouldn't need it.
    Is there a way I can set up a second iTunes library on this MacBook Pro I'm traveling with, which will allow me to download books without access to my main iTunes library?
    Thanks so much for your help,
    Karen

    All the stuff on my current iPad will be stripped, null and void?
    Not having an iPad I can't say for certain although when I connect any other iDevice (iPhones & iPods) to another iTunes Library I get a message similar to "Your device is connected to another iTunes Library…" with more stating to the effect that it will be erased and the contents of the current (which in this case empty) Library will replace whetever is on your device. At this point you have the option to Continue or Cancel.
    So yes, you might end up with an empty iPad which is why I suggest you be extremely careful in reading what's on-screen.
    It's one of the big big failings in iTunes where I need to carry around a 65GB library just so I can manage an iPhone.

  • HT201320 Can I set up a second email account that I want to keep separate from the one set up for my iPad. Can I choose to send from the second account but not to receive onto my iPad, only on my computer?

    can I set up 2 email accounts on my iPad - one from which  to send and receive and one to send from only ?

    YEs, you can have multiple E-Mail addresses. Just add the additional accounts through the Settings -> Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
    If you also change the mail settings "Show To/CC Label" to ON you can change the sending E-Mail server. You can also set the default account in there also, one more section down in the same E-Mail Settings section.

    You can create up to 3 alias @icloud.com email addresses for that purpose.  They will all receive email in your existing iCloud inbox and they can be deactivated or deleted if they attract too much spam.  This article explains how to create an alias address: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • Setting Up a Second Display

    I recently purchased a Dell S2240M monitor to work with my 2.9 Ghz Core i7, 13" MacBook Pro.
    I could use some help setting it up. Specifically, I would like to run the monitor with the MBP's lid closed. But when trying this I've been experiencing some strange behavior.
    1. Sometimes when I close the lid, the MBP just goes to sleep. Sometimes it doesn't.
    2. Sometimes, when the two are cooperating and the monitor keeps displaying the signal with the lid closed, I will leave my desk for a while and return, the MBP has gone to sleep - like it should. But when I hit the space bar to wake the two up, they both come on, but the Dell monitor has a greenish, purple 'film' over the picture. This will stay there until I open the lid on the MBP. And then it will resolve itself, even if I close the lid.
    To make this even weirder, I have seen this greenish, purple "film" phenomium happen with our overhead projector at work - running out the same Mini-Display port. However, as with the Dell monitor, this is not always the case.
    My questions:
    1. What is the best way to use my MBP with the Dell monitor, with the lid closed?
    2. Has anyone seen this greenish, purple "film" issue happen with their MBP?
    3. What are the best System Preferences Display Settings for using a second monitor with a MBP?
    Any assistance with this would be appreciated.

    I could use some help setting it up. Specifically, I would like to run the monitor with the MBP's lid closed
    I would like to challenge your basic assumption that your MacBook should be closed.
    Both screens can be active at once. The Mac supports splicing your two screens into an "Extended desktop". The screens can be placed in any orientation you specify, relative to each other. My son puts his big display up on 4" blocks, and opens his MacBook Below it. He then opens a multitude of windows on both screens to do his work. Occasionally, he will drag a window across to a different screen. It works very well.

  • How can I set up a second monitor using the DVI, a mini Displayport to dvi?

    Hey guys,
    In my office I'm trying to set up a mac with two displays, Samsung screensync sa450s, using a Startech MDP2DVIW mini displayport to dvi, and the DVI port found on the ATI Radeon HD 5770.
    However, whichever monitor is plugged in through the mini displayport never shows video, and instead will just flicker sometimes, no matter which monitor I use, or which of the mini displayports i use. The system profiler recognizes both monitors, and has all of the specs on both monitors, but only the monitor connected directly to the DVI displays anything, even if it is the secondary monitor.
    The StarTech does still work with the macpro that used to be in this spot, and the only salient distinction I can find is that the old computer has Mountain Lion, while the new one is still running Snow Leopard. Is this a case where we should just update the OS? or is there another fix?
    I've also read online that many people have been not fully plugging in these mini displayports, so I'm worried that I'm doing that, but then I'd figure it wouldn't have worked when I plugged it into the old computer unless my predecessor had made some hardware adjustments.
    Let me know.

    A frequent solution to problems like the one you describe involves pushing in the Mini DisplayPort cable-end.
    It should be inserted until essentially ALL of the metal end disappears inside the jack on the 5770 board.
    Is this display wider than 1920 wide?
    EDIT:  The Startech MDP2DVIW adapter you cited is a passive adapter suitable for 1920 wide or less. You should be using ACTIVE adapters, about US$35. They cost a little more, but are much more trouble-free. The ACTIVE designation means they contain booster circuitry to raise the Voltage levels up to true DVI levels. The default converter produces good timing, but the signals are really low.

  • Can I set up a second router (extreme or express) with WEP while keeping 802B,G,N on the primary router (TC)

    I have a wireless temperature controller which only uses WEP security. I have my TC configured for 802.11 B,G,N which disables WEP. Can I extend or create a new wireless network which uses WEP while maintaining my current network configuration?

    Yes, this is extremely easy..
    Get a wireless router or AP.. anything cheap will usually be fine.. you don't need fancy. And if it is G or B wireless then a second hand is also fine.
    For a wireless router you can bridge it, if that option is available.. usually not.
    So you do a sneaky work around called wan bypass.
    It is easier to give you actual situation.
    TC running standard IP 10.0.1.1
    Set up the WEP router with IP, 10.0.1.254 (puts it outside the range of dhcp in the TC and will never be used).
    Turn off the dhcp server.
    I do suggest you set a fixed wireless channel,, so it doesn't interfere with the TC.
    eg 1, for 2.4ghz.
    Then plug LAN port of the router to the LAN port of the TC by ethernet.
    Voila, you have a secondary AP and can set poor security on it.
    *** DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON***
    You have just reduced the security of your whole network by creating a loophole.
    I would strongly recommend turn it off when you finished playing on your Wii or whatever ancient device that uses WEP.

  • Ajax: How can I set Item of type "Display as text" ?

    Hello Everyone,
    I would like to set an item to a calculated value using ajax. I'm perfectly able to do so for items of the type text field using any of the many examples available on the web, but I can't make it work with an item of the type "display as text".
    What I'd like to achieve is set a value in a form field and then have a hyperlink appear next to it with that value as one of the arguments. Any idea on how to make this work ?
    Rgds
    Koen

    Hello Jari,
    Following your comments I changed the following to my javascript script:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function sumItems(){
    function getVal(item){
    if(document.getElementById(item).value != "")
    return parseFloat(document.getElementById(item).value);
    else
    return 0;
    /* test1
    $x('P18_TOTAL').innerHTML = getVal('P18_ONE');
    /* test2
    document.getElementById('P18_TOTAL').innerHTML = getVal('P18_ONE');
    </script>
    The result in both cases (test1 and test2 ) is that nothing happens. In Firefox I don't get any warnings in the error console but in google chrome is see the following message when inspecting the element:
    Uncaught Error: NO_MODIFICATION_ALLOWED_ERR: DOM Exception 7
    [Exception] #<a DOMCoreException>
    I believe its something very trivial I'm missing - can you give me some more direction please ?
    Rgds

  • If i have a work ipad with a work email and a shared icloud for all employees, can i set up a second itunes and icloud account with a separate email address on the same ipad for my personal stuff?

    i am a teacher and my school has given all of us a ipad to use. it is set up with my school email and a shared itunues and icloud account. they have told us we can use it for anything that can be used for education purposes. i have downloaded books and other items that i have marked up for my use. however if there is ever a problem i cant identify my applications or books if other teachers have downloaded the same apps or books as well as my documents. is there a way to set up a 2nd itunes account and icloud account so that i may use that when backing up anything that would be personalized by me so that i can find what is rightfully mine. they are ok with it but were unsure how to do this, so can anyone help me? thanks

    Sorry, you cannot use more than one iTunes account at a time.

  • Can I set up a second user account?

    I used to have an iBook, and was able to set up separate accounts for myself and my wife. I now have a MacBook, and it does not seem I can set up two accounts, other than the guest account, which I don't think can save permanent functions. I want to set up a separate iTunes for my wife. How can I do that?

    Add it in the Accounts pane of System Preferences, or launch iTunes with the Option key held down.
