Can't set frame rate on animated GIF PSE8 on Mac

When saving an animated GIF in Elements 8 (running on Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard) I can't modify the frame rate. It is set at the default .2 delay and can't be modified. Anyone know of a fix for this?

Thanks Barbara... I have used that very workaround already - but was hoping there was a solution so I could just do it in the app designed for this! So unfortunate that Adobe knows about this bug and hasn't fixed it!

I can't set refresh rate to 75Hz both in Gnome display properties and in Nvidia panel. So i have it stuck at 60Hz.

1st : It runs perfectly fine at 1280x1024@75Hz in Windows XP/Vista, so there is no reason it shouldn't work in Linux. In Nvidia-panel there is even the 75Hz option in the drop-down list when resolution is 1280x1024.
2nd : It isn't easy on the eyes at 60Hz compared to 75Hz, even more when i play games (Quake 3 for example).

Without an SSCCE , I'm only guessing, but you could try:
Use an ImageIcon , which animates GIFs automatically.
or
Use an ImageReader , which has a getNumImages() method, and other methods that return certain frames of a GIF image.
and
Read [this |http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Media/imagestrategies/index.html] (at least the bits about gifs)

Animated Gif's in Mac Mail

There have been a couple of threads on this now closed without a solution. I discovered how a somewhat tedious way to get an animated gif into a mac mail msg while seeing the animation in action.
I used iWeb to create a blank white pate. I then inserted the animated gif. I posted the page to my website. I placed a bookmark in Safari for this website. Now, when i want to send an email with this animated gif as a signature, I navigate to my website page in Safari, type ⌘I, and this brings up a blank email in MacMail with gif animating. Then just complete your message.

Thanks for the post. I don't pretend to be a guru. It appears from the other posts that Apple chose to prevent animated gifs from animating in Mac Mail to enhance security. I don't know much about making the gifs. Here's the animated gif on the web page. It's of a Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Can't Change Frame Rate in Properties

To change project properties in FCPX you click the wrench icon, which brings up a window to select 720p, 1080p, etc as well as frame rate. The problem is, there are no options in the dropdown for the frame rate in all of my projects, it chooses one automatically (seemingly arbitrarily) and you can't change it.
I thought that when the progam says it would detect the properties of the first clip and adjust the project properties to match, it would actually do that (maybe I should have known better). So I imported my standard 1080p 29.97fps footage from my Canon 7D and then FCPX automatically set the project properties to...720p at 24fps. Curious, no? No problem, I thought, I'll just go to Project Properties and manually correct FCPX. But it was not to be, as FCPX had decided to give me only one option in the frame rate selection: 24p. But no, I thought, I would very much like my properties to be 29.97 so as to match my footage. But FCPX did not agree with this, and would not change its mind.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
Do any pros still use Final Cut Pro?

It may be possible that a .jpg was the first thing in the project, which may explain the seemingly random properties (why wouldn't they just make it default to a more common setting like 1080p 29.97?) but I digress.
And it's a very stupid move to revoke the ability to change project properties while clips are in the project, that makes no sense.
I'm begining to think that Apple has really failed with this new version of Final Cut; and I've been using Final Cut for years. I am debating switching to Premiere, but I will give FCP X a bit more time to redeem itself.

Add web url to one frame of an animated gif?

I have created an animated gif in Photoshop CS5 and want to add a url to one of the 3 frames as this gif is going on a website as a banner advert.
I've read that I can use the slice tool to do this (?), but if so, I need help in laymans language as to how to do this. Or should I be doing it a different way. I dont have fireworks, flash, illustrator etc, just photoshop cs5.
The animated gif is for a website on a wordpress platform.

The Slice tool will divide an image into sections. These sections are not temporal, that is they cannot be time or frame based. They are physical structures, so you can make the bottom half have a URL displayed, and attach the HTML code to make that URL a clickable link. But this is all handled by HTML code. When you use the Slice Tool in combination with File > Save for Web and Devices, your output is not just the GIF file, but a full HTML web page that places the images (each slice will be a separate image file) so that it appears as a single image, with separate areas having URL link code attached.
What you are trying to do, have a link attached to a single frame of animation within a GIF, is not possible. The GIF file format doesn't support anything like this, it does not support clickable links, nor does it support special behaviors per frame. Clickable links are entirely handled by HTML when it comes to image files. You would have to use Flash for something like this, but you would be creating an SWF, not a GIF. Fireworks and Illustrator would work the same as Photoshop in this regard.

Setting frame rate

I have some ProRes HQ files that are set as 30fps but the contents are really 24fps or 18fps. What is the best way to get the footage set to the correct frame rate?
These are actually 8mm and super8 films that were captured frame by frame and the captured files were tagged as 30fps, not the real frame rate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was able to create an image sequence and export an 18fps clip using AE. Unfortunately, FCP doesn't seem to allow a sequence with 18fps setting. If I put the clip into a sequence with a higher frame rate, FCP just generates an odd cadence -- AABBCDDEEFGGHHI (or similar for 30fps seq) and doesn't allow me to have frame accurate edits (unless I run through the cadence to find the break.) The bigger issue is I would rather have a smoother output than the odd cadence.
Is there a way to get FCP to generate an 18fps sequence that I can edit in and export from? Or maybe I need to switch to Premier Pro? I'll retime in Shake after the edits since it will generate interpolated frames and create a smoother final output.

Accesing different frames of an animated GIF

I'm really sorry to crosspost this question, but it seems to be a more advanced topic than i thought.
I'd like to load a GIF image and be able to show the different frames any time I want. No animation, no order. Just do somthing like:

I don't think it is possible. Normally a gif image is
not really a folder of images. When creating a gif
image you choose all different types of compression,
wether to re write similar color frames etc so I don't
think there is a way to ask a gif file to give up it's
frames without some type of image editing software.
This is just a guess based on creating gif images.But I'm able to edit all kind of animated gifs I download from the web. I open the with Animator Pro (PaintShopPro) and I can see all the individual frames. So the frames appear to be independent (although not completely) entities inside this single file. I mean, if animator can extract the frames, and my browser can extract the frames, why can't I ?

Why doesn't the "View image info" show how many frames are in animated gifs?

When I right click on an image, then click "View Image Info" it used to show how many frames were included in an animated gif. This stopped working in Firefox 4. Why is that?

I'm not too sure what I did but it works now.

What's the simplest way to export a single frame from an animated gif as gif?

i have an animated gif and wish to save a single frame as a non-animated gif.
in the past i've been achieving this by deleting all the frames i don't wish to export and deleting them before exerting, this seems very clumsy though so i figure there's a more sensible solution in there somewhere, but where?

Thanks, Bill! Actually version 9 looks a little clearer than that, as it has two bold clear white paddles to mark the edge of the work area.
I was a little frustrated at first, because whatever I did, it still took a year and exported the entire video.
Then:
I caught sight of this teeny tiny box waiting for a tick from me, which said:

Can I throttle frame rate on server side?

I am building many to many webcam based chat application . The application page on client side will show streams anywhere from 1 up to 10 webcams. Most of the streams or chat will inactive so I am thinking that I can broadcast those inactive streams at a very very low frame rate untill they get activated. { I know I can not throttle in flash but can I throttle on server side with FMS or Wowza server?}
Any hints regarding how would I achieve this?

What do you mean by inactive streams - if you mean there is no data to be transfered why do you want them to broadcast at first place? Probably i did not get your question properly if that's the case can you elaborate more?

Save for web - animated gif problem PSE (Mac)

Trying to save an animated gif using Save for Web dialogue box...
works fine, except checkbox "Loop" and delay rate drop down box are highlighted (active) but can't be changed

No fix, alas. This has been a problem in the mac version since PSE 6. If your gif is small, you can duplicate layers so that they appear to stay onscreen longer, but the best advice is to not use PSE/mac for this, unfortunately.

Placing a animated GIF pic with .Mac mail

Hello, I am a pretty experienced user and cannot find a way to attach an animated GIF to my email. I use .Mac mail and downloaded a program to make animated pictures. The only program I can animate my pics in is Text Edit. I did a thorough search and could not find an answer. Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks.
