Can't set key photo in Events

I have created numerous Events which are labeled and contain pictures, but in the Events window, teachhe group just appears as a black square with the title of the event underneath it in white. When I scroll down the full Events window or move the picture size setting, I can see a key photo for each event, but then when I stop, the black squares (where the picture should show) reappear. So when I click on "i" to set change or set a key photo, there is just a black square - no photo.
When I open the Event group, I do see all the photos in the group. I looked at the Online Help and didn't see this problem addressed.
I'm new to this version of iPhoto, so there must be a setting I have missed.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Showing only key photo from events within an album using iphoto 11

I'm using iphoto 11 and want to show only the key photos from events in an album. I don't want to see every photo from every event in the album, I only want to view the key photos from each event in the album. When I drag the event into the album every photo from each event is shown in the album.
I do have some events in an album with only the key photo showing but can't get all the events to display this way in the album. Any suggestions?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Set Key Photo?

In iPhoto I select a photo in one of my web galleries and right click.
Then I can select "Make Key Photo". But it never sticks. Online I see the photo I selected for a half a second and then it changes back to the first in the set.
This happens whether I view it in Safari or Firefox.
I created a new user account on my computer, started the whole process from scratch and it still does the same thing.
    OSX 10.5.4
    Intel Mac
    iPhoto 7.1.3
Anyone know how to make this feature work? Thanks. -Derryl

I have the same problem. I've tried a number of workarounds, including:
    1 - renaming the albums,
2 - renaming the image file name so it's first alphabetically.
3 - I even deleted the image that WAS the default key photo. The image is now deleted, but the gallery is STILL showing that image as the key photo (after clearing the cache).
I haven't deleted the albums because there are a number of them, and I'm not sure I have all the photos.
    Very frustrating.
Please let me know if someone finds a solution for this issue.

  • Can't set/send photos (iPhone)

For some reason, I can't set/send photos on my phone. It'll tell me the following: "This app does not have access to your photos or videos. You can enable access in Privacy Settings." I've looked at my privacy settings and there's no settings for photos. Help please?

I have had this problem....but...it is now solved. Go to General, then Restrictions. Scroll to Privacy, then scroll down to Photos, I had to click on 'Allow Changes'. This solved my problem not being able to post pictures to Facebook, Instagram etc....

  • Can you set contact photo from SDK?

Can you set contact photo from SDK?

Now that iOS 5 has come out, all iPad 2's come with iOS 5 pre-installed (unless you find old stock sitting at a retailer somewhere). iOS 5 has a built-in setup assistant for AirPort base stations (such as AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule). First you plug in your AirPort Express to power, and plug its Ethernet into your broadband (Cable or DSL or whatever) modem/router's LAN port. Then in iOS 5, you go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and your AirPort Express will show up in a separate list as a base station that has not been set up. Select it there, and iOS will look at your environment and guess how you want it set up. It usually guesses right. If it guesses right for your needs, you hit the button and it sets it up that way. If it guessed wrong, you hit "More Choices" and select an alternative setup method.
After you've done the initial setup that way, if you later decide you want to tweak the settings, you can download the free AirPort Utility for iOS 5, from the App Store.
Kappy made a small mistake when he said you can use the AirPort Utility app for iOS to set up the AirPort Express. You actually have to do the initial setup right form the AirPort Assistant built right into iOS 5 as I described above. The AirPort Utility app for iOS is where you make changes later, not where you do the initial setup. But yes, you can do all of this setup right from the iPad now, as of iOS 5. No Mac or PC required.

  • Setting 'key photo' for Faces?

On an iPhoto event, you can select one photo and set it as a 'key photo'.
Can the same be done with Faces? How?
    Dave

in faces view skim across the person you want until you see the photo you want for a key photo and hit the space bar to set it (this works for events too)
You really should take 2 1/2 minutes to watch the iPhoto tutorial - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/#faces

  • IPhone wiped. Key photo in events wrong

    Hello all
iPhone 4s with current software. Snow Leopard 10.7.4, using iPhoto 11
Been having problems with iPhone 4s decided to wipe the phone completely to start fresh. At same time I created a brand new iPhoto library with all new Events and new assigned key photos. With the new iPhoto library there wasn't any iPod cache folder when using the Show Package Contents option.
After setting up the iPhone from being wiped, I synced it to iPhoto. All of the pictures transferred successfully to iPhone however on many of the Events it is showing the incorrect key photo (on the iPhone, but in iPhoto it is correct). The only thing that didn't change is the iTunes library.
I've unchecked/checked the sync Photo option in iTunes then resync'ed still same issue. I've deleted the iPod cache folder in iPhoto then resync, same issue where certain events is displaying the wrong key photo on iPhone.
    Any ideas?

Key photos are a feature for events in iphoto, the tv does not work with iphoto the way it does with itunes.

  • Key photos on events in photo app?

Since I've updated to iOS 5 I've noticed that the main photos for my events are just the first photo in the event, and not the photo that I have selected as the key photo in iPhoto. It's small, but it's annoying. Does anyone know a way around this? Thanks!

but just doesn't have the features when I have spent hours tagging, editing and sorting all my photos in iPhoto on my iPad and  desktop.
You cannot add tags and captions in Photos iOS 8, and you cannot see them when opening a photo. But the tags you added previously are still there when you migrate the iPhoto library to Photos. You will see that, when you use the search field and enter one of your tags or a caption. This will find all photos with this tagged you then can create an album of all tagged photos for each tag. Creating albums with distinctive names is the new way of tagging. You can search for album names.
I share your sentiments entirely, and I hope Apple will provide an update to Photos soon or offer app extensions to add the missing features.

  • How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events?  I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images.  In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides.  How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto?  Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
    Thanks!

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • How can I set up Photo Stream with OSX 10.7.5 and iPhoto '09?

I am trying to set up Photo Stream and I would like to know what I need to do. I am running OSX 10.7.5 and iPhoto '09.  Thanks

You need to have 10.7.5 Lion for the basic iCloud or 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.9 Mavericks for the full iCloud. While 10.7.5 Lion will allow you to access iCloud you will be limited unless you can upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.9 Mavericks.
    This is from Apple Support:
    Minimum operating system requirements
You may also use iCloud with the following operating system versions:
    Mac
OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later*
Note: Although you can use OS X Lion as noted above, you will not
be able to take advantage of some iCloud features, such as Shared Photo Streams, iCloud Tabs, Find My iPhone Lost Mode, Documents in the Cloud for iWork, and Find My Friends location-based alerts.

  • Setting key photo for iWeb photo album

This one's confusing me a little. I'm trying to select a key photo for my album in iWeb, but it keeps defaulting to the first photo in the album. I would've thought it would be similar to selecting a key photo for an event in iPhoto (i.e. just scrolling to the desired photo and hitting the space bar), but no go. Just wondering if anybody has figured out how to do it. Thanks

I think the iWeb programmers thought we would be excited enough by the mouse over feature of the albums.
You could send them feedback suggesting this feature for a future update as others have asked the same question.

  • Set Key Photo on MacBook Pro, not reflecting on devices - 10.10.3/8.3

I don't believe this has worked previously, but I was hoping for the new updates to Photos (10.10.3 update) and iOS 8.3 that the Key Photos would work better.  I've selected the Key Photo on the Events album on the MacBook, shows correctly no problem.  When syncing photos to my iPhone/iPad, the photo for the album shows as the first picture no matter what - why wouldn't it show the key photo??  I've also tried adjusting the albums on the MacBook so that my key photo is first, but still shows the "first" photo which is now 2nd in the event, even tried removing all photos from the devices and re-syncing, no luck.  Anyone have any ideas how to make key photos on the iPhone/iPad??  Any advice is much appreciated!!

How the key photos and such things are decided on the Phone or Tablet, is a matter for the app on those devices. I'd ask on your Phone or iPad forum. I would point out that while the various apps on the various devices do speak to each other, they do not have the same features.
