Can't set manual update

I recently got a 60 GB iPod video (I know they just released the 80...) and when I transferred over my library, I kept it on manual during the setup so it would just copy everything over. Now I want to set it to manual and can't seem to figure out how. There is no iPod tab under the iTunes preferences. I am running iTunes 7. What am I doing wrong? I want to be able to set it to manual so I don't have to hold down option/apple every time I plug it in.

never mind. I found it. It's late here in Michigan and I feel dumb now, lol.

  • How can I set Firefox update preferences via script so I can configure our 200 Macs to disable checking for updates?

Most of our Mac users do not have admin privileges. So when they get alerted about Firefox updates, they don't have the ability to install them. We would like to disable Firefox for checking for updates, then push out updates from our software server as needed. We have about 200 machines to configure. Is there a way to disable checking for updates via script (bash or Applescript)? And if so, is there a guide or web site to explain the process?

Use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify default values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • Audit log + manual update + specify download location

    Hi all,
I'm evaluating whether we can use Java Web Start for our new product, for geographically distributed software deployment.
I've the following questions that I could not find answers in the official documentation:
    - Can it support manual update? i.e. is there any way I can put a button on the application UI so that instead of checking latest version on every program start, the end-user can manually initiate software update.
    - Can I extend it to support audit log? i.e. we need to keep track of which client upgrade to which version in a centralized database (as audit trail), and when such update occurred. Can we do this?
    - Some of our end-user has no access to local filesystem, they only have access to dedicated shared network drive, can we customize Web Start so that it download and save the new version to a specific location, instead of C:\temp?
    - We have a few jar files for the application. How can we ensure that all jar files are either updated, or not updated at all? i.e. kind of transaction concept.
    - One of the jar files contains some configuration files, which need to be expanded in exploded format (to allow runtime change of configuration options). How can we do that?
    Thanks a million.

  • Reason for Error in Manual Update of Data Package

    Hey,
Sometimes while loading huge amount of data, one of the data package doesnt get uploaded. For those data packages we do a manual update of the data package and it works well.
My question is why do we get this error,
Is it to do with the system contention or any IDOC issue?
Please help me out to find the root cause of this, so that we can avoid the manual update of the data packges.

We usually get this issue , when we are doing a lot of processing in the Update Rules. The Data package processing gets timed out.
If it is happening very often then you would need to sit with your Basis person and modify the Timeout settings for your system.

  • Using a second computer with an ipod set to manual update

I want to prevent my ipod 60GB video which is set to manual update on my G5 from being updated when I plug it into my powerbook. The powerbook assumes the ipod is available for auto update. How do I mount the iPod without iTunes automatically replacing its contents. I can't "preset" iTunes in its preferences to treat the iPod as a manual drive as it just says: "no iPod connected. As soon as I attach the iPod the auto update starts. Are there keystrokes to interrupt the update so I can set the iPod preferences on my Powerbook?
    Thanks

  • How do I set iTunes to manually update songs without connecting iPod first?

Hi. I just got a new computer and downloaded iTunes. The User Guide says that when you connect the iPod, iTunes automatically updates all songs in your iTunes and deletes songs that are not in iTunes. As far as I can see by reading the User's Guide, iPod has to be connected to change the setting to "manual update". I already have an iPod with songs in it that are not on the iTunes that I just downloaded. I'm afraid that if I connect my iPod, it will erase the songs already in my iPod because of the default "automatic update" setting. Does anyone know how I can change the setting to "manual update" BEFORE I connect the iPod to the computer?
    Thanks for your help!

I can't find software update in general icon in the setting, what can I do

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
        1.    Go into the iPad's Settings.
        2.    Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
        3.    The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
        4.    Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
        5.    Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
        1.    If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
        2.    Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
        3.    After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
        4.    If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
        5.    After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
        6.    From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
        7.    After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
        8.    After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

  • How can I manually update videos while all else is on auto-sync?

Please forgive me for asking this again, but I need to free some much needed HD space on my MacBook Pro, so I want to get rid of the videos in iTunes without deleting them from my iPod, normally done via the manual update setting. But I do like the auto-sync of everything else (music, photos, etc.).
    Can this be done?
    Thanks for helping!

  • How can I switch from Automatic to Manual update without losing songs?

I have on my ipod songs from another computer, however I'm afraid to plug it into my computer because my computer is set to automatic update for my ipod. Is there a way for me to switch my ipod to manual update without losing songs on my ipod when plugging it in? thanks.

    Here is what you do:
    Open iTunes.
    Plug in your ipod.
hold control and shift at the same time. this stops your ipod from updating automatically. Hold this until your ipod is finished docking.
    Then go to edit>preferences>ipod
then change the setting from update automatically to update manually.

I've been having this problem for weeks and have found no solution to it. There are lots of other people with this issue too if you look back on the boards. I even e-mailed AND called Apple and have had no luck. I tried all the suggestions they gave me and all the ones I found on here- nothing worked. I even uninstalled and re-installed iTunes (boy was that a pain!) and no difference.
The weird part is that I have an old laptop that works and if I buy music with the laptop I can download it with my regular computer buy buying does not work on my regular computer. That tells me it's not a connection issue. I can't get to my account either.
I can't figure out why an issue that has kept so many people from purchasing a product has been ignored!

  • Are all security updates automatic or can I set preferences?

I was out for a couple of hours. When I came back to my Macbook I had a notification that a security update had been installed.
    1) Is there any record anywhere of what update was installed?
    2) Do I have any choice or can I set preferences about when and if downloads/updates happen and are installed?
I know there is a list here: Apple security updates - Apple Support
but I want to know if there is place on my machine where i can see the updates and compare  . . just to see if, for example the December 22 update is installed.
I can also see other updates in the app store but I don't see any security updates and the updates that are listed there don't have any dates attached.
    Thanks very much,
    Michael

Thanks, I did have that setting checked for security updates but I guess it hasn't happened automatically, if ever. In fact, this article seems to be saying this was the first automatic one ever?
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/12/23/us-apple-cybersecurity-idUSKBN0K108W20 141223

I can see all the app updates in the app store but not security "patches."
    Thanks again,

  • Can't manually update shuffle on two computers.

I have my music on two computers. One is my Mac at home; the other is a Windows machine at work (all my own music). My computer at home was originally used to load some songs onto my Suffle. Sometimes I download a podcast at work and want to listen to it on my way home from my Shuffle, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to manually load a single song onto the Shuffle at work without redisignating the work computer as the computer associated with this iPod and erasing all the songs.
Nowhere can I find the "manual update" option that everyone talks about in the software. It just isnt' there!
Of course, I know I'm missing something, which is why I'm posting to the forum.

I think I finally found the answer to my question from reading several other posts on this matter. I've learned that the Shuffle is different than at least some other iPods in that it is NOT able to be loaded with songs from more than one computer. It can only be linked to a single computer, unlike other iPods which actually can be loaded with songs from multiple computers.
At least I feel better, knowing that I wasn't overlooking something that was there.
