Can't set media type to music

I was moving some audiobooks that were incorrectly categorized as music, and accidentally labeled a bunch of music as audiobooks, as well.
To my horror, I find that I cannot reset entire albums from audiobook back to music.  Experimentation shows that I can set a single song back from audiobook to music, but if I select either an album, or multiple tracks (open the album, select all), then I can change the media type, but when I apply the change in the Get Info window and close, the change in media type does not stick.
I have seen a bunch of related questions, where the answer was "turn off iTunes match," but I do not use iTunes match, so that is not the solution to my problem.
Is there any other way, or must I change each track individually?  If so, ouch, it's not nice to have a batch change that can only be undone one at a time.

Was the "Movie" option missing after you had changed it from "iTunes U" to "Podcast"?  I found it missing after originally changing the media kind to "iTunes U", but after changing it again to "Podcast", the "Movie" option became available again.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.
    Matt

  • Can't Set Video Type

I had to upgrade to v8 to use the new firmware on my iPhone. With v8 I can not set the type of video file. I used to be able to right click and go to "Get Info", and then in the videao tab choose what kind of video file it was, ie movie, podcast, or music video. This feature seems to be absent. I have reinstalled iTunes8 3 times after ensuring it was vacant from my registry.
Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I did a search and could not find an answer. Where can I access that feature? I have looked for that option as well and could not find it.

  • Can't set media kind to movie

I imported a video in to iTunes, and it came in as a movie. It's an educational video, so I thought it would be nice to set its media type to iTunes U. I did that, then clicked iTunes U in my left hand pane, and the video did not appear. I created a smart playlist where media kind = iTunes U, and there it was. So I figured I'd change it to Podcast. I changed it, and it didn't show up under Podcasts, (but again does appear under smart playlist). So I figured I'd change the media kind back to Movie, but now that media kind is no longer available from the dropdown list! My only choices are Music, Podcast, iTunes U, Audiobook, Voice Memo.
How can I change the media kind to movie so it appears in my movies?

  • HT1473 Can't set media kind to podcast since iTunes 11 upgrade

I have some teaching material in mp3 format that I like to listen to on my iPhone.  Prior to iTunes 11 upgrade, I could import it into iTunes, get info, options tab, then set the Media Kind to Podcast.  This moved it from the music library into the podcast library, which allowed me to take advantage of 30 second rewind while listening, as well as remembering where I was when I left off if I didn't listen to the entire thing in one setting.
Now that I've upgraded to iTunes 11, this no longer works.  I can still select Podcast as Media Kind, but the files stay in the music library and when I do another get info on them, they are still listed as Media Kind of music.
Does anyone know of a work-around for this?
    Thanks.

I've got the same problem. Here is a temporary workaround in windows:
    install mp3tag v2.53, a free tag editor {Google it}
select mp3 file to set as a podcast
right click file, select extended tabs
    select starpage icon
create these fields and values :
    field: COMMENT ITUNPGAP
    value: 0
    field: PODCAST
    value: 1
    field: PODCASTDESC
value: any value, Example ; The Saint
    field: PODCASTID
value: any value, Example ; The Saint
    field: PODCASTURL
value: any value, Example ; The Saint
    field: RELEASETIME
    value: Example ; 2012-11-28T12:00:00Z
You can do multiple files at a time

  • Epson 1280 - can't select media type or print quality

I just went Mac and got the imac w/ OS 10.6
I downloaded the drivers for my Epson 1280 - I can't find a way to select my media type (photo paper, etc) - nor can I find how to change my print quality (high quality vs draft).
    Has anyone figured this out?

    Your browser/File/Page Setup
nor can I find how to change my print quality (high quality vs draft).
Not to sure where this setting is. Never seen it. Try your browser/File/Print/Printer - click on the far downward triangle. Any settings there you can play around with?

  • Good day.  I have recently moved over to a Macbook Pro running iTunes 11.1.1.  I have moved my library over from an external harddrive.  I can select the media type as audiobook for the selected albums but the selected media type does not stick.  Pls help

Please help me resolve this issue.  Are there any other users that have a similar impact?

    Hi,
Not true. ".m4b" files are protected AAC files as used by Itunes store.
Audiobooks from Audible are either ".aa" or ".aax"
Audiobooks imported from CD can be ".mp3" or ".m4a"  - when importing media type should be changed to "Audiobook"
Therefore there is no need to convert file to ".m4b".

  • Can't change media type

Any one know how to change the media type of a file? I went to "get info" like I used to but it is all gray and won't let me change it. I just got a new computer that runs windows 7 (I used to have an XP) but I don't think that should be the problem is it?

Is all of your media like that, and is it grey for every single field?
If so, I've noticed with Windows before that if Windows Account Control is on, then for some reason it won't let you change info of the media. Try turning Windows Account Control off in the Control Panel, and open iTunes again and try again.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Can you set the type of alert in iCal on the iPad?

I have an iPad (1st generation) with the latest iOS5. I love the new iOS and especially the way that iCloud makes things more seamless between my devices. I do have an issue with iCal, however. When I set an event in iCal in OSX, I can set the alert to be a message, message with sound, email, etc. By default, if I set an event in iCal on my iPad the alert is a message. I can find no way to change this. If there is a way, please tell me.
Because of this, I never use iCal on iPad to set alerts because I like to use message with sound. This greatly reduces the functionality of iCal on iPad because, for me, it can only be used as a calendar event viewer. Any help would be appreciated. Note: I have contacted apple feedback about this issue.
In a related, but less important issue, I find that the settings for the timing of the alert are very limited in iCal on iPad. On iCal in OSX one can set the alert time for either the time of the event, or pretty much any amount of time prior to the event. On the iPad, iCal will only let you set it to the day of the event, 1 or 2 days before, or 1 week before the event. A limitation, but not crippling. However, if anyone knows how to set the timing of the event on iPad's iCal with more specificity I would really like to know.
    Thanks!

Under Settings, Sounds, you can set an alert sound for calendar events.
For timed events, you can set the alert for a range of times from 5 minutes before upwards (e.g.15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour). For all-day events, the range is as you described.
You can set the alert for each event as you create it (or edit it later)
You can set default alerts for all-day event,s timed events, and birthdays (i.e. different defaults for each type) in Settings, Mail, Contacts and Calendar, default Alerts.
    Does that help?

  • Can I set a time for music in iTunes to stop

I use an iPad to play my music to an Airplay speaker. I sometimes use the playlist on my iPad and if I want to increase my listening pleasure I would use Remote to play from my entire libray on the iMac.
I've looked but can't seem to find any way of setting a timer for playback. I listen to music at night and rather than have it play the entire night. Dose anyone know of a a utility/app for atimer setting in iTunes?
I believe Apple sould consider this feature for a future addition to iTunes.
    Thanks,
    HJKeats

It is not yet a built-in feature, but there are quite a few sleep timers around.
    For example:
    http://en.softonic.com/s/sleep-timer:mac
I have not tried them, however

  • Can't set alarm, type of alarm isn't even visible

My alarms worked a month ago and now I can't even set one because the pulldown menu is grayed out. And the option to select what type of alarm I want isn't showing up at all. I just downloaded and reinstalled 1.5.5 but no help. Any ideas?

    Ron,
Open Address Book, find your card and make sure that you choose Card>Make This My Card.
If that is unsuccessful, delete and recreate your card, making sure to once again choose "Make This My Card."

Simply use the menu 'View' on the top bar : File - Edit - Find - View ...
That opens a drop-down menu in which you can select the media type you want to show, photos, videos...
Is that what you wanted to do ?
When I opened the link you suggested

  • Media Type papers are grayed out

I have a problem that I hope someone may have an idea about.
Printing in Aperture I use Onscreen Proofing with the proofing profile chosen for the paper/printer that I am currently using. When I print, under color rendering, I select the profile that I did the Onscreen Proofing with. I then click print and go to Printer Settings to set Media Type. I select off (no color management) under color mode. This yields me a good print for a few of the preset papers.
For some reason, under Media Type, Fine Art Papers are grayed out, and my downloaded profile for Museo II doesn't show up anywhere. (They do show up under proofing profile and color rendering in Aperture. They live in library>colorsync>profiles). Any idea on how to load them into the Epson 3880 so that they show up under the printer's media type?
I am printing from Aperture 3.1 to an Epson 3880 printer with OS X6.5
    Thanks in advanced

I had to wade through a bit of wasted time and ink to get Aperture to reliably print to all of the sizes and papers I use with my 3880, included all of the problems mentioned in this thread. I can't recall how I got all lined up -- and I'm not there to check -- but I will look it up when I can and post. I write just to say that (at least for the 3880) Aperture and the printer and the paper profiles can be made to work (and work well).
    Kirby-
Thanks, I look forward to reading about it.
The answer I got fromEpson was some help :
*If you want to print on the Fine Art papers you will need to choose manual front or manual rear sheet feeder. Also, any profiles that you download will not show up in the Epson driver media list. You will need to access those by choosing them in the software application.*
So I can force a change to Matte Black without having Epson Colour manage so that I can use the paper profile. If you have experience with the best settings for different media, I would be interested in hearing about it.
    thanks for the feedback.
