Can't set network time on SBS 2011 Server

I'm trying to sync the time on an SBS 2011 server to an external source, as it keeps drifting by 2-5 minutes a week.   But I can't even run a NET START W32TIME without getting the error below - which I don't really understand.
C:\>net start w32time
System error 1290 has occurred.
The service start failed since one or more services in the same process have an
incompatible service SID type setting. A service with restricted service SID typ
e can only coexist in the same process with other services with a restricted SID
type. If the service SID type for this service was just configured, the hosting
process must be restarted in order to start this service.
I get the SAME error trying to start Windows Time manually in Services - it is not running.
Anyone?    Thanks.
Bill

Hi Bill:
Have you tried this?
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-performance/windows-time-service-will-not-start/6bbea43f-5575-4e78-9b52-ac766632bfc2
I know it says Telephone service in the answer, but it appears to have resolved the time sync problem.
There is also a thread where simply changing the host the time service queries fixes it.

How can I set my time capsule to only back-up once a day.  It appears to be backing up several times a day.  Not sure there is a set schedule for the back-ups and they take a great deal of time; over an hour each.

Then something is wrong.  Changing the schedule will only deal with the symptom (and give up one of the better features of Time Machine's usually quick and unobtrusive hourly backups).
See if the size of the backups makes sense, considering what you've changed since the previous one.  If it seems much too large, that may be the problem.  See #D4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for some common culprits and ways to see just what's going on.
If the sizes seem reasonable, see #D2 in the same link for things that can cause extra-slow backups.

Since I updated my iOS to 6.0 i can't set up timer to minutes, only hours. I did the test on another iphone with iOS 6.0 and the same issue happened. On an iphone with iOS 5.1.1 this issue doesn't exist....i think it's a bug and I'd like to report it.

  • Apple TV is asking me to set network time. how to do this?

Apple TV is asking to set network time. How is this done?

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

will my mac back up to time machine wile it is on but shut (asleep) and can you set a time for backups???

If your Mac Model supports POWERNAP under Mountain Lion, yes backups and software updates can occur while the mac is taking a power nap (kind of light sleep).

It is very confusing and driving me mad as this is christmas gift and she can't set up time and date.

    Hi monpar77
If you are using restore factory settings in "Phone management" due to UDP = User Data Preservation feature of this device that may not be sufficient and you may need to carry out a "hard reset" as detailed elsewhere in the forum.

as an administrator can I set a time limit and control having inappropriate sites displayed on my "administrator" usage?

Parental Controls can be used to set time limits, to allow the computer to be used only within specific hours of the day, and to block certain Web sites (or to allow only certain Web sites). However, they can be applied to a Standard account only, not to an admin account.

  • Can i use my time capsule as ftp server

    Hello to everyone,
resently I have read in the net that it is possible to set the time capsule as ftp server and also as a local server.
Can enyone explain me how to do it pracally?
Thank to people hwo will help in advance.

You heard wrong.. there is no ftp server in the TC..
It can do SMB to windows and AFP to apple.. and that my friend is that.
If you load files onto the TC you can access them remotely only via AFP.. google search remote access time capsule.

  • HT202157 setting network time and date

What are the issues involved in setting the time and date on AppleTV?   Is this a network issue?

P.C. was mentioned earlier so I will jump in and assume Windows....
If the system is (made) a member of a Window administrative domain then all this is already in the box, and should be part of a well managed system (I have managed it on a workgroup as well, see the articles below for details). It's one of the things I try to promote as we often have systems switched on for hundreds / thousands of hours and knowing when some guy accidently switched it all off is realy usefull It helps with problems / events that occur outside our control and assists tracking down problems and stops drift / skewing of data.
Check out the following articles for more information: -

Windows 2000 cannot set the correct time when it connects to multiple NTP servers

The time service is included on Windows XP as well. For NT4 there is / was a toolkit that allows operation from Microsoft.
Use the command NET TIME /? (on W2K and XP)
Either way you will come accross problems at the firewall if you want to get to an external time source. Unless you have on of those nifty little black boxes that pick up a radio signal from one of the available time sources.

  • I can`t set my Time Capsule

Hi people, my doubt can seem quiet simple, but I'm unable to set my Time Capsule. I'll tell you.
I a new mac user, I've got a MacBookPro, and I just bought a Time Capsule (2Tb), but I don't know to set it for first time. I've followed the next steps:
1 - I've connect the TC to my router WI-FI by ethernet cable.
    2 - I've plug in my TC.
    3 - I've started my MacBookPro.
4 - I've started "Airport Utility" from folder "Utilities" (in "Applications").
5 - But then start the problem, 'cause Airport Utility doesn't find any base station or gadget, just say me that internet is OK, but the software can be hours searching with the next message: "Not found any Airport base station set. Airport utility will continue searching". So, after hours, I don't get any answer.
    S.O.S. friends.
Thanks in advanced and sorry for my english.

But now, I've got a new question:
Does TC just work linked to the main router?
Is not possible that TC works by wi-fi, without cables?
    Thanks.
Ok,, the TC is primarily designed to use ethernet WAN.. if you try and use wifi to connect it is not as good or reliable. You gain nothing.. but it depends on what you mean..
If the wifi from the existing router is good.. just turn off wifi in the TC.. plugged into the main router by ethernet you are now accessing it as fast as you would directly.. If you want faster connection, plug ethernet directly into TC lan port.
If you join by wireless to the existing router.. the ethernet ports go off.. there is no wifi from the TC to the rest of the network..it is just a client. And you will double hop the wireless which means half the speed.
Test it yourself.. that is the best way to learn. Hold down the option key and select wireless mode.. join will then be available.. although you may have to use 5.6 airport utility to do it.
The exception to this is if the main router is another apple model.. then the TC can use extend wireless.. but I am guessing that you have a wireless modem router not an airport extreme etc.

  • Can you set a time range in the wiki calendar?

I think the wiki calendar is a great feature in 10.5 Server, however I am annoyed by one problem. I can't figure out a way to limit the time on a wiki to say 8am to 5pm. I would like to use this as a class calendar page on the wiki, but it is really annoying to have to scroll through 24 hour days. Does anyone know a way to do this? It would be great if Apple allows us to edit the time being shown on the wiki.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi,
I don't have Leopard here to try it with the wiki, but with Tiger I can publish a user calender to the iCal server after setting the time period in iCal client preferences. The times out of range are greyed out. When I subscribe with a different Tiger client those same periods remain greyed out.
Since Tiger can only read calendars I can't test the wiki interaction yet. This tells me that the iCal server can respect time periods once set.
    Another data point.

  • Can't set the time on the 6500 Slide

I just bought a 6500 slide and can't do one of the most basic things - set the time!
I have gone to auto-update but it is shows the wrong time.
At the time I purchased the handset the sales assistant turned the phone on to check if my sim card was working but he may have saved the incorrect date and time.
I have managed to save the correct date but can't for the life of me now save the correct time.
    Can anyone help?
So simple but yet I can't figure it out.
    Thanks.

    Hi racheljc,
    Try this:
    Menu
    Settings
    Time and date
    Time
From there, you should be able to change the time.
    I hope this helps.
