Can't set required duration in iMovie 09?

I'm using iMovie 09 and trying to set the duration of a clip (using inspector) as 0.9s but as soon as I set the vallue and hit enter it just becomes 0.8s. It seems that the duration can only go up in 0.2s intervals.
Does anyone have a solution? Is this normal?

Just found an answer,
In case anyone is interested, go iMovie, preferences then display time as hh:mm:ss:frames.

  • Can I set clip durations in iMovie 10.0.7 for Yosemite?

In earlier versions of iMovie I was able to go to preferences and display the clip durations as described in this link below. I could also see the approximate position of the entire video while it is playing.
iMovie '11: Display the precise duration of video clips
I am forced to use the current version of iMovie because the older version no longer works for me. I cannot find a similar option in preferences or anywhere else. Has this wonderful feature been removed from this software. Right now if someone asks me to edit starting at a specific position I cannot do it. I have to play the entire video to find the portion of it that they want removed. I am working with fairly long videos and having this feature would really shorten the time for video editing.

Hello and thanks for using Apple Support Communities,
Unfortunately, although iMovie 10 added some great new features and brought a more intuitive user interface, some legacy features were discontinues. Chapter markers are an example. While you cannot add 'chapter' markers, you can still add traditional markers by using the Mark item in the menu bar and then clicking add marker. These will not add chapters, however, and will only allow you to quickly find a spot later in iMovie.
Sorry about that, but if you recently updated iMovie to version 10 from an older version, it is possible that the older version is still on your Mac. You can search for it using Spotlight, the search icon in the menu bar.

  • Can't set photo duration I want in iMovie

I have inserted a load of photos at the end of a video and I can't set the duration. If i input 0.10sec it jumps down to 0.05sec. Also if I am dragging the yellow handle in the project window and want to set a time of 0.50sec the timing goes straight from 0.29sec to 1.00sec. I have no transitions in the video or beat markers.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Can you set the Duration of a Transition to instant? Or Remove a previous?

Can you set the duration of a Transition to instant? (Rotate and Translate).
Or if not, remove a previous transition done? (Reset the transitioned object back to its original). Ihave tried setting Duration.millus(.000001), but I can still see it translate/rotate. if I set it to zero, it doesn't do anything at all.
    Goal:
I have a Connect4 type grid that Flips. It rotates upside down 180degrees, the pieces 'fall' down. Then I ACTUALLY flip the game board (not just effects) using a matrix calculation. But since my grid is upside down, my pieces appear upside down.
So here is the method I was thinking:
    -Flip the board upside down
    -Translate the pieces down (gravity)
-Actually flip the game board's internals and positions.
-Undo the previous rotate/translate so the user thinks the 'animation' actually flipped the board.

You cannot create an instant Transition. An Animation with a duration of 0ms is considered invalid and does not do anything when play() is called.
Why do you have to use Transitions to set the values? They just modify Node properties over time, if you want to change the properties instantly, you can just access them directly. TranslateTransition modifies translateX, translateY, and translateZ, RotateTransition modifies rotate and rotationAxis.

  • I can't adjust the duration of iMovie videos and images with precision on iPhone. It gets back at 0,3 seconds.

During my iMovie project, after 2 minutes. I can't adjust the length of images or videos with precision as normal. If I sweep it a little bit, it gets to 20 or more minutes. Can you help me out?

  • Can I set the duration of slideshow photos less than 1 second?

I want to create a slideshow on iphoto, but I want each picture to display for about .5 of a second. I want the slideshow to be really fast, with pictures flying by. It seems the only option is 1 second and above. Is there any way to make it faster than 1 second per picture?
    I have version 6 I believe.
(It happens to be frozen right now, so I can't check for the exact version.)
    Thank you,
    -Jenn

    Jenn:
You can't. The minimum time is 1 second. You might be able to use iMovie to create what you want but will not be able to have any transitions between slides.

  • How can you set up chapters in Imovie, then Idvd?

I have slides, I brought them into Imovie, made my movie, then successfully brought it into Idvd, but when I play the dvd, I have not access to any controls, like pause or FF to next slide.
Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks.

Not sure. However, once you bring pics into imovie and export it...its a movie...there are not slides. You should be able to fast forward using your remote control just like any dvd. In order to make chapters, you need to manually add them in imovie by turning on advanced controls in preferences. This will enable chapter markers. You can then pick chapters off the main menu in Idvd.

  • I set the duration of a clip and iMovie sets it to something else. So I try to set all stills to same length and iMovie sets them all to a different interval. Now I have a movie much longer than intended. ?!?!

Well, the title of the question pretty much says it all.

If you go to Edit/Preferences, you can set the default duration for each slide. This will affect only those photos you've imported into your project AFTER changing this preference.
You should also turn off the preference for Scale to Frame Size, so your photos do not fill the screen. (And, for efficiency's sake, make sure your source photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs at the top of this forum.)
You can also set the duration of each slide by selecting all of the stills you want to include on in your slideshow, right-clicking and selecting the Create Slideshow option.

  • How to set the duration of each pic in a slideshow (and also how to pan and zoom)

I have about 30 pictures I would like to add to a slide show.
When I add them the duration for each picture is set to 6 seconds.
I would like this changed to 4 seconds.
But manually changing the duration of each individual picture, one by one, is a slow and tedious task.
Is there a way of changing the duration of all my pictures at the same time, from 6 seconds to 4 seconds ?
Or can I change a setting so that when I insert my pictures the duration is set to 4 seconds instead of 6 seconds ?
As for the pan and zoom, I have seen the pan and zoom effect but this has a black border around the pictures as they zoom in and out.
For example, when zooming in the picture starts small with a black border all round the edge.
When zooming out the picture ends small with a black border all round the edge.
Is there a way to pan and zoom starting with a full screen when zooming in, and ending with a full screen when zooming out ?
Thereby not showing any ugly black borders.
My Nokia N73 phone can do it !
You can view the pictures as a slide show and when it pans and zooms it looks so much better because it does not show any black borders.
The picture ALWAYS fills the screen even though it is panning and zooming.

  • How do you set the duration for multiple stills in iMovie 2013?

How do you set the duration for multiple stills in iMovie 2013?
Before upgrading to the latest version of iMovie last month, I was able to set the duation of all of the stills included in an iMovie project at one time by clicking the apply to all still box in the adjustment pop up. That option is no longer apparent. If it is available I cannot find it, and I have tried several different ways to accomplish it. I have tried the iMovie help section and can find nothing to help.
Apple, do I really have to adjust close to 500 pictures to a 5 second duration individually???
    REALLY??!!

...why wouldnt people want that level of accuracy when animating, especially when working to music at a specific duration?
Because often people are animating to words or beats in the music.  Music is rarely performed with a computer-precise beat and tempo.  Musicians aren't robots: they swing the beat sometimes.  They use rubato.  They change tempo.  They change time signatures.  As a result, you have to FIND those words and beats.  It's not a situation where you can say, "There!  I've found the duration of one beat!  Now it's easy to find the rest of them!"
If you try it, you will be very disappointed.
Try finding the precise end of a piece of music that fades or ends on a big chord with a ring-out.  You'll see that it's trial-and-error: what's the point where it becomes inaudible?  It depends on how high your speakers are turned up.  You might have them way up, you set an end point for the layer, and then you do a RAM Preview at a more reasonable volume.  You might say, "Hey!  The music ends before the layer ends!"...  but you KNOW you set the layer's out point when the audio file goes silent.
AE has layer markers that can be used on an audio layer to mark beats, words, etc. They come in very handy.
I guess it comes down to this: because AE can do so much different stuff, there are very few automated procedures.  Oh, Adobe tries with effects that convert audio levels to keyframes, but they're not 100% reliable... especially on something like a capella choral works.  For true accuracy, you need  find the timings yourself.
If you want something simpler, try a different application. But be prepared for lower level of accuracy.

  • On iMovie 10.0.7 how can I change the duration of all of my photos in the project at once?

On iMovie 10.0.7 how can I change the duration of all of my photos in the project at once?

You can set the default duration of stills but you have to do it before you start the project.
iMovie is not really suitable for stop motion videos and iMovie 10 is worse than iMovie 9 because the minimum still duration is not really controllable as you have found.   I don't have experience of making such videos but there are 3rd party apps which appear more suited to this, for example http://www.macworld.com/article/1146623/stop_motion_Mac.html
mentions some of them, though its a bit old and you may be able to find more up to date information.

  • How can I change the duration for all clips in iMovie 10.2

How can I change the duration for all clips in iMovie 10.2?  I'm used to working in the older version of iMovie where all I had to do was click on the gear on the clip and change the duration. ALso could use the tool bar to set the duration for all clips. Can't figure out how to do that in this new version. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the timeline select the clip whose duration you want to change. Click the adjust button at the top of the viewer and then click the i button and you can set the duration. For multiple clips select them all and in the i button type in the duration you want and it will be applied to all the selected clips. You can also change the duration of a clip in the timeline by putting the cursor over the beginning or end of a clip and dragging. A popup will show the new duration.

  • In Apple Configurator, can I set up different sets of iPads with different apps loaded? Or will all iPads synced with Configurator be required to have the same build?

In Apple Configurator, can I set up different sets of iPads with different apps loaded? Or will all iPads synced with Configurator be required to have the same build?

    Hi jshira86,
You can definitely have different sets of iPads with different apps loaded. When you "supervise" your iPads, you will see that on the left side of the Configurator window there is a "+" sign in the lower left corner. Click it to create a new device group. With this new device group you can choose what apps and configuration profiles you want to install on that group of iPads. Create as many groups as you want to customize the apps and profiles you want on them.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Can't set a still to 1-frame duration

    Hi,
I cannot seem to set a still image to 1- or 2-frame duration. I click on "Clip Properties", and enter "0:01" or "0:02" and it just seems to jump to 4 frames (0:04). How can I set still clips (images) to last just one or two frames?
    Cheers
